I just lost my dad yesterday, this was one of his favorite songs and he even requested I play it at his funeral. The pain is so immense, yet this song helps me connect to him and hear him. I love you dad, this one is for you.
I remember this song on the radio and I was driving my mom somewhere and she said "Awww turn this song up" I did and when it came to the part that says " the world is a bad place, a sad place, a terrible to live ohhhh but I don't wanna die" my mom turned her head to look out the window and to hide her tears that she was crying. I knew she'd be gone long before me and when I hear this song it grabs my heart strings. I love you mom❤❤❤
This might also be a song on my funeral. Turning 36 this month, and still hoping it's a long way till that. But this song is so beautiful! Rest in peace Colson's dad

I got saved when I was 16 back in 73 when I was in high school. They called us Jesus freaks. I can't wait to be in heaven with my Lord and savior Jesus Christ.
From someone who grew up in the 60s & 70s I can't tell you how many times I remember the old days and how I wish I could go back in time and have a do over. There would be so many things I would change like talking to this girl in 8th grade named Sheri who could with just staring at me make me weak to my knees. Or try out for Baseball or kept going with my medical studies. When I hear this song it rushes old memories back in my mind. I really love this song. Bless you my friend. I hope you find some comfort in this wonderful song by The Marmalade. I was only 9 years old when this record came out. But love it.
This song came out during my senior year in college. The shootings in Kent State closed our campus. I had been drafted a few months earlier in the draft lottery of 1969. I was headed to USMC boot camp in a few months. This song has remained seared in my memory ever since. Hearing it now, it seemed to be the perfect soundtrack to my life in those uncertain days. Thankfully, I survived 3 tours, flying a Navy aircraft which makes this song even more powerful to me today. Thanks guys, you were wise beyond your years.
Thanks for your service. I was more than thankful to get through one tour with all parts still attached. 101st ABN. And yeah, this was one of "our" songs.
This is an amazing version of this song. Dean Ford’s voice is phenomenal. I remember this from when I was young but it popped up on Reels and came back to me. I can’t stop listening to it.
I was a young boy when this song by Marmelade came out, it has stayed with me all these years, the "60"s truly made "Magical" music, the Creativity and the Stories of life will always remain forever in my heart along with "Reflections in my Life" to always think back and Reflect on a turbulent but beautiful time in our life and if you were fortunate to be around at that time I hope you only had great memories.
I keep coming back to this song. I've been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and this one hit wonder hits all my thoughts on reflectng is my life. It's feels like I never left that era. I guess that's my home. It's been good, bad,and ugly. This sweet sentiment of a song gave us hope in the chaos of the late 60s. My boyfriend went to Nam in 70. The letters from him fit this song. You just want to go back home. Innocence gone when you figure out "You can't go back home". It's just a reflection. A piece of your heart.
Well said and HEART Felt!💓 Those were our days of innocence, when we thought those days, good and bad would last forever!!!😢 I'm sorry for where you are at this point in your life, I hope and pray you find that inner peace, God Bless you!!💕
I've always loved that line: "...the world is a bad place, a bad place, a terrible place to live......but I don't wanna die..." I've often felt exactly that way.
That's also the most poignant, heartwrenching line for me. What's scary is, Dean sang that 52 years ago, and look where we are NOW! A BAD PLACE, A TERRIBLE PLACE, and it's only going to get worse. I'm grateful that I won't be here to see and live the reality of that. Makes mortality a lot less frightening.
@@stellarocquie7957 And I often feel *that* way too. I find myself feeling sorry for the young people these days. They could be in for a very rough ride.
The music of those times never die. I was just walking and this song came to my mind. Had to look it up. RUclips is a fantastic website. Thank you a million times. Took me back to my old days in the band The Beez

When this song came out, I was a teenager in crisis. I had just come out of an unspeakable patch in my life. This song may well have kept me from suicide...... Music has been my solace ever since.
What a song--those of us who lived through these times will never forget this great song! It was a wild ride we all went thru! God bless all who feel this song and feel the vibs we went thru--God bless you all and thank you for this video!

Same for myself. I was a (much too aware) 12 year old in ‘69 and this song has been relevant my entire life. I don’t know why, but there’s something special also about the fact that it was a one hit wonder. Like it was a song that was meant to be… A song that had a destiny. I was sad to hear that the author/composer had died. Rest in peace.
I'm 68 now. I had a very troubled childhood life. Broken family, juvenile hall, continuation school, etc. Then joined the Marine Corps at 16, inducted on my 17th bday 1971. This song is beautiful but makes me very sad.
Sorry for your loss. Please remember that God promised. A resurrection so we will get to see our loved ones again . I truly believe this . And Jesus resurrected some people while he was earth so this lets me know it truly is going to happen. You might think I'm crazy but. Please look into it
I'm praying for you and "@wandalemaster1480", and my dear friend Debbie for the recent loss of your husbands. I'm so very sorry, I cannot imagine what you are going through. My heart goes out to everyone enduring such great sorrow. =(
I remember listening to this song as a 13 year old and sobbing, although I couldn't explain why. Now, at almost 65, my brain knows now what my heart already knew back then. One of the most beautiful songs ever written.

Marmalade were brilliant, Dean Ford must have literally torn his heart out singing this one, beautiful song and so meaningful. Thanks so much for providing how great marmalade were by posting this truly live version. Excellent.
Saw this band locally 50 odd yrs ago after this song was released . All these yrs on reflecting my own life- lost many loved ones along the way including my dear husband Gareth. I lost him in 2020 to cancer at 58 yrs. We had 34 yrs together. Love you Gar.miss you love every day. Wish I could go back.❤❤
I'm 63 & a Guitarist from the 70's Era & My Choice of Rock Was 'Straight Ahead Guitar Driven Blues/Rock'. But THIS Song ??? There is NO Denying it IS a MASTERPIECE !!!
The Marmalade, were a Scottish band, but they touched the soul of such an historic time for, America. A goodnight song to the tortured 60's and the hope, the 70's held.
Dean Ford deserved more recognition as a vocalist than he got. Being in a commercial pop band & the plethora of great British singers at the time ( Steve Marriott , Eric Burdon. Joe Cocker et al) sort of stole his thunder I think. He is a tremendous singer!
thebadloser , i like your comment , i saw these lovely guys just before the passing of a great singer,, Ive adored this classic since it first came out ,,, Until eternity i say xx lol Jane xx🏵🏵🏵🏵🏵🏵
One of my favorite songs of all time. I think most anyone can relate to this song. I think Dean was ahead of his time. It is always a joy to hear this song .
I remember my Mum dancing in the kitchen to this song, and we learned every word and it was our favourite song, then my sons love it and their kids are dancing to this song. Thank you for being part of our lives in New Zealand. Awesome!!!
As I get older, it seems like I have more reflections, and more to reflect on, and of course this increases the impact of this song. It touched me in the day, but now it moves me. While all is not as I would have it, the tunes I grew up with still help me to focus and put all into perspective. Thanks for sharing the music and I hope this smooths the wrinkles in your soul today as you listen to it.
There was a lot of competition in 1969 for music playtime. Some of the follow up success by bands was greatly influenced by the media but some bands could never find the magic they found to follow up a monster hit. probably some great songs never surfaced with all the bands exploding on the scene.
We are witnessing a world takeover by COMMUNISTS, including here in the United States. They had to destroy the western/heterosexual/Christian white male. The hateful, perverted, psychotic white feminist females, were destroyed decades ago.

I'm so sorry for your loss and for all that have lost a spouse or other loved ones. My dear friend lost her husband on April 7th, 2023 when his truck was t-boned by a drunk driver. Richard and his best friend were killed instantly and another dear friend was seriously injured by a man that had already been charged with DWI 3 times! He should have never been allowed behind the wheel. Like you, she is devastated and I pray everyone will keep you and others that have suffered such great loss in their prayers. These type of songs were magical to me when I was growing up, very deep, creative, emotional and full of life, the world needs this kind of music to bring color, life and healing back into the world. Too much gray, distrust and hate today not enough love and peace. I am so glad I had the opportunity to live in that great period of music. All I can say to the new generation of people, listen and learn to this amazing music of the past it will supercharge you and take you on a journey to the center of your mind.
My brother was a gunner off of a helicopter DMZ. I buried him in April with one eye, one lung, throat cancer, shrapnel that you could see under the surface of his skin. I wish that I could take your pain away. Peace, Bruh
As we get older this is the perfect song to reflect on the good times and bad times of yesteryear, and today. Great group of the 60's. Glad to be a part of the 60's.
I'm 67 widowed and every night play music of my years growing up. I just wish I could relive those days. If only I knew then what I know now. But the music will always make me happy. We were privileged to grow up in that generation.music will never be like that again, yes things move on but rock and roll will never be surpassed. Oh well back to my music when singers were singers and songs had melody and meaning.

💜
Thanks for your service. I was more than thankful to get through one tour with all parts still attached. 101st ABN. And yeah, this was one of "our" songs.
Much thanks for your service. I have so much deep respect for the troops and the veterans.

I wish I could turn back time and realise that I had everything ! Take Care Friend 😢
Well said and HEART Felt!💓
Those were our days of innocence, when we thought those days, good and bad would last forever!!!😢
I'm sorry for where you are at this point in your life, I hope and pray you find that inner peace, God Bless you!!💕
I'm so sorry to hear of your cancer but, Marmalade weren't a one hit wonder band.
Good luck !!!!
Especially, because no body wishes to die. God made us with the wish to continue living forever according to Ecclesiastes 3:11.
you just made me cry for you and i am 73.
Beautiful song for those who appreciate such a master piece classic! 👌❤👌
I've always loved that line: "...the world is a bad place, a bad place, a terrible place to live......but I don't wanna die..."
I've often felt exactly that way.
We appreciate dear John H's honesty !!!
That fits today with our President!
@@markd6634 Go away. This is NO PLACE for political agendas.

When this song came out, I was a teenager in crisis. I had just come out of an unspeakable patch in my life. This song may well have kept me from suicide...... Music has been my solace ever since.

Always loved this song as a kid in the 70s. Now that I am much older, it has new and deep meaning.
I know exactly what you mean.
i try and listen to this every day…what an incredible human Dean Ford was.
Me too!❤
I'm 68 now. I had a very troubled childhood life. Broken family, juvenile hall, continuation school, etc. Then joined the Marine Corps at 16, inducted on my 17th bday 1971. This song is beautiful but makes me very sad.

Dean Ford deserved more recognition as a vocalist than he got. Being in a commercial pop band & the plethora of great British singers at the time ( Steve Marriott , Eric Burdon. Joe Cocker et al) sort of stole his thunder I think. He is a tremendous singer!
The beauty of the music, the voice, the memories, the sixties. So sad these folks today don't know what they missed.
One of the best live vocal performances I've ever heard. Brilliant song which means more the older you get. Very underrated band.

As I get older, it seems like I have more reflections, and more to reflect on, and of course this increases the impact of this song. It touched me in the day, but now it moves me. While all is not as I would have it, the tunes I grew up with still help me to focus and put all into perspective. Media sucks these days.
@@sylviogiovanna2081 media always sucked
There was a lot of competition in 1969 for music playtime. Some of the follow up success by bands was greatly influenced by the media but some bands could never find the magic they found to follow up a monster hit. probably some great songs never surfaced with all the bands exploding on the scene.

We are witnessing a world takeover by COMMUNISTS, including here in the United States. They had to destroy the western/heterosexual/Christian white male. The hateful, perverted, psychotic white feminist females, were destroyed decades ago.

@@helenechildress377 Who's "we"? You can live in a perpetual "La La Land", but I won't. I live in America. Our country is disintegrating. Through 60 years of IMMORALITY, America today is perverse, addicted, gluttonous, narcissistic, psychotic, violent, rude, uncivilized, and in denial. The American spirit has been destroyed - all by design. With the communist scourge reeking havoc in all areas of society, this will only get worse, i.e. - chaos, mayhem, and müřdër.
