    Got 2 Rx 580 Nitro+ 8Gb from some IT security company for 75€ each (79$ for American friends). Cleaned both. While they were dusty and thermal paste was a little bit dry, pads were still like new (also those were original) so it seems both had not much use. Now runnnig 1411mhz with 1080mV uv. Still great cards.

      @@DimondDoesTech Little update. Got myself two more of these cards (so now 4 total), for even few bucks cheaper (I hate having money on my hand :D ). Cleaned and tested all. At stock 1411mhz got them down to 1060-1090mV so not bad. One of them has faulty fan controller and so sometimes one of the fans goes 100%. Gonna leave this one for myself as backup GPU (even tho I have my "gpu box" with few working, partially working or dead terascale gpus).
      Second 580 went for my younger brother to replace his rx 470 which is already sold.
      Third one went to my father and got myself back my old gpu, gtx970 (still kicking and overclocks like champ). Will think later what to do with this one.
      Gonna sell the last one in the near future (they are easily selling for 90€ where I live so still profit).
      At the end didn't try crossfire partially because I was testing with backup psu (some 10 years old one). This is because my main one died (thankfully was pretty new so got replacement one yesterday from warranty).

    The 580 8gig still holds up well but in classic amd fashion the drivers on windows suck a** like Nvidia's drivers on Linux . I think you should try the 580 under linux with proton and stuff.i'd also recommend you throw in some older games too like csgo or hl2 for that specific test.

      Yes I'd love to see how the mesa drivers compare with this card as I use linux and might have the possibility of getting this card soon. This is the last GCN card and seeing how well the other earilier GCN cards have aged, I think the potential is really up there as this card will still get around another 5 or so years of support plus maybe more because of mesa having a good long lasting support. I recommend using the Nobara Project distro with proton-ge for most performance. Nobara is aimed to provide the best gaming performance as well as ease of use.

      Thats quite a nice upgrade path you got there! Starting out with a pretty decent system and keeping the door open to make your system quite bad ass! 75c sounds pretty average for an RX 580 as, remember, the RX 580 was a budget card after all meaning that most examples have not the greatest cooler designs.

      The performance is not the issue. It's the image quality with the quest 2 because of how airlink works. The quest 2 doesn't take a bog standard DP cable but instead takes a USB signal which requires the video output from the GPU to be encoded, sent to the headset via USB, then decoded. Because of driver issues with AMD, the bandwidth won't hit greater than 60Mbps which is not enough for a crisp and clear experience. There is a reason why the quest 2 needs 200Mbps of bandwidth on airlink to look it's best

    To get around the vr issue, use the pro drivers not the adrenalin. I managed to get all vr games working that way, yet it cost me about 5-10 fps in non vr games. The 580 wasn't to run VR, that was the 590 so the 580 has the infuriating position of being overly good for gaming and VR, yet not having the driver support baked in for VR itself. Similar issue with the 570 and this is why you need a 590 off you wish for both gaming and VR.

    • @DimondDoesTech
      @DimondDoesTech  Год назад

      Actually the RX 580 was advertised as being "VR Ready" Heck its even on the box my 580 came in. However if what you say is really true... Well then a new video is in order to revisit VR performance specifically. As when I tested it, it was actually reasonable but the image just looked like poo. I'm actually a bit excited to test that when I have some time off work.

    • @openlyracist8055
      @openlyracist8055 Год назад

      @@DimondDoesTech Why would AMD address the 580 as VR Ready? They even specify everyone to purchase the 590 because they didn't add VR drivers to the 580. It was in a press release and on their driver website.

    • @DimondDoesTech
      @DimondDoesTech  Год назад

      Well they advertised the shit out of the RX 580 as being "VR Ready" Hell if you take a look at the AMD site for the RX 580 promo and you'll see they recommended using them IN CROSSFIRE FOR 1 GPU PER SCREEN IN VR. EWW. Do you want to get motion sickness - MultiGPU VR is your answer!
      Edit: And if you remember the 1060 6GB was advertised as VR Ready as well. The RX 580 and 1060 6GB had similar performance although now I think the 580 8GB slightly outperforms the 1060 6GB. Can't test that theory though cause I don't got a 1060 6GB.

      @@DimondDoesTech This is such an AMD thing. And they wonder why they keep getting sued. Found this out in my drivers that there wasn't VR support as my Oculus kept black screening after 15 minutes of gaming or putting my PC in sleep mode. Found out my Pro drivers worked with VR, but I lost frames in everything else because the Pro drivers have ai acceleration built in. The 590 is the only one with dedicated vr drivers and ai acceleration.

    • @DimondDoesTech
      @DimondDoesTech  Год назад

      Well that's REALLY weird. When I was testing the 580 I was using drivers from 2021, 2022, and the most recent driver and I never had black screening be an issue; although I never use oculus link I use Airlink so I'm never tethered to my PC.

    I love my RX 480 Strix with only one issue (three if you insist) There is no media acceleration, youtube playback is only through the CPU so slower units will struggle with basic 4k, as to the other two, one is that Asus gave the 480 a thin radiator and thermals are high unless you do a custom curve and undervolt
    third is harsh for me because even with new drivers, performance in OpenGL is still steps behind nvidia

    • @DimondDoesTech
      @DimondDoesTech  Год назад

      Huh I've never had issues with media acceleration with my 580 but to be fair I've not used my 580 with a slow CPU thus far. Its odd to hear that Asus gave a card under their strix brand a poor quality cooler as that doesn't make a lot of sense to me. (Unless is that hideous atrocity that is the RX 570 that is just branded as an RX 580, aka the RX 580 2048sp) But yeah I did notice in OpenGL AMD still stinks there...

      Not at all actually. This VR issue is only an issue with standalone type headsets like the OG Quest, Quest 2, Pico 3 & 4, that new Vive headset, etc. Any headset that doesn't have a native HDMI or DisplayPort connection means that the GPU has to encode, compress, and send the video signal over USB which is the issue caused by the encoder bit of the driver being borked.
