- 2024 Topps Series 2 has been out for a week and there are good, bad, and ugly things about this set. In this video the Spitballin' team will give their thoughts on 2024 Topps Series 2 and what they think of the product.
1. The short prints aren't even close to being short printed. No way I'll pay $50 for Chourio's card, but I might be in for $30-35 down the road.
2. The Chourio image is from the first week of the season, so they obviously they could have made better SSP images for Ohtani and Yamamoto.
3. I just wish they made HFA's in chrome too like football downtowns in Donruss and Optic. Would be a much better chase than Ultraviolet All-Stars.
Chris here - these short prints just keep showing up on eBay, so you’re right about the lack of shortness.
I have to stop thinking the Ohtani and Yamamoto SSP. just so disappointing.

@SpitballinCards I do also, even using the silly photo. I also thought print runs being similar to the original was a good idea, it didn't need to be a SP. And I like the 5 variations, playing off the original. Topps acknowledging something another company put out is also a good move. Fleer and donruss were huge in pushing topps to do better.

Can't believe nobody mentioned Hells Bells as the Entrace Song of Trevor Hoffman. I think that is the best ever. I read somewhere that the Yankees took the idea of Enter Sandman for Rivera from when they played the Padres in the 98 Series. Diaz current entrance song is probably the current best. As someone mentioned below, Wild Thing and Rickie Vaughn a definite honarable mention.

I think 2022 update was the last good set we’ll see for a while. Hits were there in all aspects of the product, the print run was better. Short print chasing was fun, the black border designs were perfect. Just bring me back to 2022 update 😢

When I was playing in college, my entrance music was rolling stones 'sympathy for the devil' ... I still can't believe no one has used it in the majors ever, lyrics work well (at least first verse and chorus) for a pitcher.

Maybe Topps could come out with a super short print of Billy Chapel from: For the love of the game. It would be a very nostalgic, demanding collector’s card for many baseball fans who collect baseball cards.
@@seong2118 topps has made autos from movies before. The Major League and Bull Durham autos are very popular and hard to find.

Sorry, late to the party, but excellent video. You guys bring up so many great points on Series 2. I usually just buy singles of Series 1 & 2 and open Update. In Update you at least have all the Debuts of all the good rookies. I put that set together along with buying the Factory Set from Topps. I really like the Home Field Advantage Inserts. They are one of my favorite baseball inserts and I like the fact that they are still affortable and the set can be put together at a reasonable price. If you want rare, the Legendary Home Field Advantage cards are really tough to pull as well as getting the HFA cards in a 10. They are condition sensitive because of the foil. For example, there has been about 500 Trout HFAs graded at PSA and only 46 10s. I think the Gem Rate on these all is probably in that 10-15% range. I was not aware of the Hidden Gem inserts, but those cards look really cool and what a great idea to put those in multiple sets. Until next time.....
I love the home field advantage cards. They are very difficult to get a PSA 10. I have the Morel and it’s like pop 4. So they do make hundreds of them but very few get a 10. Great show!
Yeah I think we were a little harsh on them. Product is better with them. Definitely a great chase for the blasters too.

When mark mcguire came to bat for St. Louis, they played Welcome to the Jungle by Guns n Roses. And Axel Rose or Slash auto with him would be sweet.
Also, Down with the Sickness by Disturbed would be and awesome walk up song. Those drums would get a pop from the crowd. Great video guys!!

The Adolis Gatorade bath is great too. That guy is HUGE.

Hey guys, love your channel. I'm not an investment-type collector, I typically only collect Indians/Guardians cards for my rather voluminous PC, but I'm glad you brought up the mistake on the Gunnar Second Year Rookie Card.
I've always wondered if the 2023 Allen & Ginter non-mini cards of Steven Kwan were a mistake (they also have the RC logo). I thought it was weird to have the RC logo on both 2022 and 2023 A&G, so now I know it was a mistake. I of course bought the 2023 A&G's because of this logo so they got me.
Regarding the signature tunes inserts, as a big music fan, I also love this idea. The Kyle Tucker and Travis Scott one is pretty cool. As a Guardians fan, I would love to see an Emmanuel Clase and Lil Wayne one for the song "Fireman", which is Clase's walk-out song. At any rate, great material, love listening to you guys.

Chris here - sorry you were a victim of topps’ mistakes last year. It’s so frustrating. Seems like it should NEVER happen. And yet, it seems to happen at least a couple times ever year. 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
Speaking of the Guardians, first that Clase card would be sweet and second, I think I’m long overdue a Jose Ramirez card.
@@SpitballinCards I've been trying to get my hands on a Jram 2014 Topps Finest Rookie Auto (serial numbered) for the longest time. Keep losing out. I think that's his best card since he didn't have a bowman's first, and it's a fabulous looking card. Just a recommendation :).
ohtani and alonso also have second year rookie logo cards. its not an uncommon problem

The SPs are not short printed. I saw a ton at shops/shows last week in my area. Guy pulled a cut Holliday right next to me. I saw a dozen Holidays in person last weekend.
Yeah, you’re right. Probably similar to the Vlad NNO. Shorter than base, but not rare.
RUclips couldn’t help me out here, but Paul O’Neill used to walk up to the opening of “Baba O’Riley” by the Who during the Yankees heyday in the 90s. I have a vivid memory of watching a tight playoff game in the late 90s - think it was against Cleveland, but I could be mistaken - where you could literally feel the stadium shaking through your TV screen as O’Neill got ready in the on-deck circle and made his way to the batters box while that song played. Chills. I wish I could bottle up that feeling for posterity. Every 6 months or so, I type in searches on RUclips to see if anyone captured that moment, kept it, and uploaded it. No luck so far.
Chris here - even as someone who is not a Yankee fan, that’s awesome. And for sure a Paul O’Neil/Pete Townsend dual on card auto would be popular!

Great discussions, chemistry, and flow. You all should be very proud. (Every once in a while, I think it’s important to offer praise for a job well done. Likes, views, and subscription numbers are great data points. But I hope you all know you are building something pretty wonderful here that many of us fans and collectors appreciate.)
For the cards with the players and the musician behind their walk-up/entry song. What if they had a QR code or something similar on the back of the signed card that would take you to a specialized recording of that occurring during a game.
Chris here - fun idea! I wonder if cards will get more interactive like that as years go by. I’d love to hear some crowd noise with the songs!
I pulled a Ronald Acuna Platinum 1/1 auto out of my first jumbo pack. I figure everything else I open is downhill from there.

The only cards you should ever buy during new product release is low serial #ed parallels that have decent prices. Its gotten tougher every year since 2020 Covid to find individual player cards like Mothers Day Pink /50 and Fathers Day Blue /50. Increased print runs make many parallels rarer to pop up.

Chris here - absolutely true! The best/rarest parallels are even harder to pull with all these new colors and endless base cards.

1) No Soto in the set and the incorrectly labeled RC are egregious issues.
2) Signature Tunes is a cool idea IF done right and I am really happy the autos are on-card.
3) Bryson Stott's walk-up is "A-OK" by Tai Verdes. My 3-yr old daughter sings it all the time and it is adorable.
4) My walk-up would be "Working Man" by Rush

OMG! Working man is a great walk-up! That opening riff by Lifeson is epic. Great workout song. I would drop some serious cash if there were a card with a Lifeson auto on it along with Geddy Lee. Especially Geddy since he is a big baseball fan and collector. Sadly, a Neil Peart auto would be unavailable.

Agree, very disappointed with the photos for Golden Mirrors... But Stroman's Golden Mirror is also probably one of the best ones.

It’s driving attention to series 2, but long term values almost certainly won’t be there.

Not sure if you addressed this on a prior video but why don't the silver pack cards fetch a significant premium? At best you get 2 per jumbo. They are chrome Refractor like and are short printed and not the easiest to Gem
Card concept. Have ohtani and Yamamoto dual card one of one in topps Chrome update...blue ink auto in Japanese. Even 1 of 1 is handwritten on the back. Seems like a no-brainer I my book.
More likely than not you won’t get a serialized card and one rookie per pack on average from what I’ve seen. They’re okay but they were better pre-2020.
Chris here - my number one beef with the silver packs is that all the autos are stickers.
I’d much rather have a paper on card auto.
I also wouldn’t call the base cards there short printed. There are more out there than you think!

I pulled the "Saw Cut" label version. The one that says saw cut but isn't cut. Been trying to figure out the deal with that one. If it wasnt for that, S2 would be meh imo.

I think you should contact Topps Customer Service. Send them pics. Maybe they’ll replace the card for you if it’s not intentional.
If Topps removed the black from the borders on purpose it was probably because the flipper bros like Scott were complaining that with the black they weren’t worth grading 😂
Chris here - I have a hard time believing it was because of grading complaints. I mean, I sincerely hope it wasn’t. Maybe topps will tell us why eventually. Most likely not, but maybe!
Topps Ripped email today shows a Golden Mirror of Semien with the black border at the top. Maybe the all white border really was a printing error

My favorite thing about series 2 is that it saved me money not buying any of it. Also topps chrome with the increase in the set size and autograph signers, plus the increase in price is going to be a huge pass for me. Let the breakers buy it all at these prices since they have no other choice, and then I will buy singles from the people who instantly regret spending money on overpriced overproduced product.

Call me old school, but I’m not a big fan of non baseball players in baseball products, even if they’re autographed. Topps has been doing this forever, I remember pulling an autograph in co-signers of some random boxer. It’s a slippery slope to every product becoming Allen & Ginter.
I'd be a buyer for a Charlie Blackmon / The Outfield dual auto. Gonna guess Scott would be too.

@@SpitballinCards Would be a fun topic IMO...Poor design innovation topic. The back of Home Field Advantage was used on 2 other card designs/lazy. The best insert or one of from 2023 Flagship Aces was done by Panini 2 years prior. HFA is a Panini Downtown design. The Holliday card should have had the cut version on opposite side, through the actual bat. A Fleer design, but I don't hate it. I can go on, I do like the traditional throwbacks, but those are recycled designs. 23 Bowman and 24 Bowman Spotlight I love. Heritage being traditional I love as well. I am just not a fan of using other people's designs. Good show, catch you on the next one.

I overheard a Retired allstar, good player not great, talking with his agent about an autograph contract. It was for 2000 autographs at $3.00 an auto. I’m sure Ozzy Osborne would command a lot more.

Home Field Advantage cards are extremely popular. They're highly sought after by practically everyone but you 4. Fortunately, your opinions are just yours, so those that do enjoy them can find at least 4 more available of each player at auctions and card shows.
Resale value says otherwise
What about the legendary home field advantage? They seem very rare compared to the regular home field advantage.

Whoever at Topps photoshopped that Holiday Fun Face card should be canned. It’s way over color corrected, like extremely. Heavy shadows, looks like 💩
