The imagery on 1996 and 1997 Topps chrome is simply stunning. Many cards show a scenery, not just the player. And a bonus, different photos on the front and back.

Call me crazy, but im starting to think maybe this is the beginning of a good change for the hobby. Fanatics and Panini especially in the coming years will see a decline in sealed products being sold, from an increase in collectors choosing to buy more singles instead, which was already started before this fiasco from box prices. Boxes have just gone downhill, well ever since I first bought a box of sports card as a kid in like 2008, and I think/kinda hope this is the final blow to remarket how sports cards are sold. They will be forced to remove the gambing part of buying products, leaving Topps now as potentially the only thing that stays, minus the random stuff. Im not sure exactly how the layout would be, but maybe some sort of reverse auction or??? Way to buy the new products, and the new products would be known what they are, kinda like some pokemon boxes. For example a Paul Skenes auto box with a complete base set that has a print run of 500, and starts at $10,000 and goes down a dollar a minute until it sells out. Something like that would benifit the hobby in my opinion, but I know many people like the gambling part, but rest assured you are gambling on if you can get that card cheaper before it sells out or not😂

6:00 - subgrades in theory are cool, but I think we have to remove the human element as much as possible. if the subgrading is subjective, it is too frustrating and random hopefully becket also does not give out “gem mint” designation to off center cards like the mothership aka PSA. that one still blows my mind edit: with BGS, I don’t like how they sleeve the card inside the slab. what if moisture gets inside the sleeve? it also blocks the view of the card, i.e. refractors looks really dim inside. you don’t need to sleeve a card inside a slab …..

Well damn, and I had just picked up myself a nearly mint condition CT Scanner from the yardsale last week...only cost me a box of LP albums and threw in about...hell...idk maybe...2, ish million bucks...oh well, glad I also bought the 3,000 boxes of 89 upper deck complete sets, which set me back 4 dollars and 80 cent....lmao...whoever was doing this CT $hit, I just gotta ask, if you even know HOW to and WHERE to buy a CT Scanner, ya probably doing better already than 95% of all card collectors. Just stop beings a bunch of pu$$ies and just leave our hobby alone.... seriously y'all, damn...

I work as a polymer scientist. I’ve been trying to think of materials that the manufacturer could use to prevent CT scanning. Usually you would need something like lead or concrete. Other lighter materials can interfere, but not prevent scanning. I know there are material scientists working on radiation sensitive pigments that could possible be used on boxes or labeling. But I think those materials are still in the R&D phase and not commercially available as far as I know.

Fanatics puts out a warning about CT scan use, so comply, some don't. for right now until they can, maybe they have, a device that can be purchased for the cost of a card scanner for home use, and this also on fear alone will make some folk buy only direct from, you guessed it, the vendors, which will improve sales, damned do, damned don't. Call me an old goat but the more AI Technocracy BS that comes along the more it seems to have a negative effect on all it touches. Damn it Jim, I'm a doctor, not a CT Scanner.

Great show guys. And I agree with most of what you guys said: its not bad to have Super Teams in any sport and someone to cheer against, diferred money needs to go, playoff baseball is a crap-shoot, and really these big market teams can literally buy themselves into the post-season. Lost in the discussion is the local TV deals. For example, the Dodgers have a $8 billion/25 year deal. That is $330 million/year where teams like the Brewers and Twins continue to get less and less for there TV deals. It is estimated that last year, each was around $35-$40 million and goind down more this year. This is where baseball and the commish need to step up. They need to find a way to get these teams some kind of deal or the 23-24 owners that are in this boat with have a shut down next year. This happenned in a hockey a number of years ago and non of us want to have no baseball. Until next time....

In the meantime, Fanactics should offer rewards to whistle blowers. You turn in a breaker/website with ironclad evidence of CT scanning and you receive a reward (boxes/site credit/cash) I think a $5000 reward would have a lot of "Friends/Employees" flipping on breakers/websites quickly. And let the whistle blowers remain anonymous. The CT scanning companies could even start turning them in. Especially if Fanatics/Panini figure out a safety measure to show that future cases have been CT scanned. That would drive the CT scanning companies out of business and they could rat on all the breakers/websites that had use their service. Then Fanatics permanently bans the breaker/website from every receiving product from Fanatics again.

I was once a pack searcher, 1992 Fleer lol, was taught how to manipulate the cards enough to find inserts lol. Fast forward to 2019, got back into cards. Joined a group that brought up weighing packs…down the rabbit hole I went. When it was all said and done, I had joined a pack searching group and wow, the plethora of information and sample size blew my mind. Unless you can manipulate the pack and the ability to see through the wrapper, a scale will only get you so far. Don’t get me wrong, I could weigh a blaster of Topps Chrome baseball and tell you which ones had autos but you were always then dealing with the checklist.

Your right ty, radiologists can use CT’s and find down to the smallest hemangioma in a spinal cord yet alone a serial 1/1 imprint 😂 how about instead of fanatics threatening people, they just find a way to package their boxes in a way where they can’t be scanned?

Why can't we have some sort of sensor or marker that could indicate if the case/box has had x-rays on it. I guess could be issue at say airports or in the mail system. A way you could guarantee this case has never has x-rays on it. Kinda like when phones had the water sensor.

As a Biomed technician who works on medical equipment, I would say that this act of fraud would be pretty hard to pull off. A CT scan takes slices of images several mm thick. So , I suppose one could learn how to read and interpret the results, but it would be quite a feat. Imaging cases and boxes would take some time and patience. Also, CT units require a tube that is quite expensive and the live if this tube is predicted in the amount of images. Tubes can cost tens of thousands of dollars and require dome experience to install and calibrate. I would think that these attempts would be out if the question for most crooks, even if they could get their hands on a small unit. Possible, but highly improbable to make thus scheme work.

I commented on NEO’s video, I wouldn’t be surprised if Fanatics already has the eyes on a couple people and this is just a warning to them. I’m sure some pissed off employee or former employee snitched and fanatics has them on their radar.

IMHO the only solution to this is to put the same kinds of controls as legalized gambling, insuring the odds for customers in product. I hope this would not look like all redemption cards in packs thus making weighing or scanning not possible. Also I hope this would not lead to Fanatics / Panini as sole distributors of product.

What if Topps infused an ink additive that will degrade and ruin the image if its exposed to CT level radiation? Basically whatever in in the box is destroyed if its ran through a CT scanner? IDK if CT is used in USPS for postal security.

ABSOLUTELY. I just can't trust anything sealed that costs more than 50 bucks anymore. I mean, even if they don't CT scan it, why wouldn't they just weigh it? No way, I'm done. It's from Fanatics directly or nada for me.
