    I’ve lived with my M3’s since they were new and that’s been well over 25 years now.
    My system has evolved over the years and the Sony’s were not designed to sugar coat anything and they will crap on you big time when stuff is not right with the recording and or equipment or the room. That was Dan’s intent with this line from the M9’s all the way down to the 3’s and not giving a rip about the specs.
    The M9 was conceptually designed to compete with the Wilson WATT Puppies at that time and trust me I’ve heard everything they’ve had as well. The M9’s are where you wanna be with the SS series. I’ve heard them all on multitudes of equipment during the time when they were new and in the decades since.
    I currently am using Parasound’s Halo gear with mine and I’ve found my happy place with my M3’s they all love plenty of current which yields in linearity which they need plenty of!
    Very nice showing with both sets of loudspeakers there’s not a dog in that house!
    I enjoyed this video. 👍👍

      Indeed, thank you for the background. There are some lucky M9 owners out there for sure. Thank you for the compliment and for watching. Cheers!

    I don't know what others are hearing . The Concept obviously has so much more detail and openness .

      Thank you! Lol, maybe its your headphones :-)
      I do know YT compressed the bass difference more than my edit. The Concepts have gobs more bass, which levels out the entire frequency range into a pleasant focus on the middle. The M3's are much more top heavy focused in person, they did sound better via YT compression than I had expected them to.

    Those Sony sound great. Warm, full, natural, easy on the ears and don't sound small to me. I wish Sony would keep up that level of quality. They used to bea reputable company but now they're just a gaming company imo.

      Totally agree! Although I still prefer their TV's to all others at equal price points.

    One of the best recorded sound demo i have heard! Both speakers sounds fantastic! Can’t pick a clear winner! But the Sonys definitely did Sabbath the best! less wall of sound everything more separated

    I own Sony SS M3 and I have been compared to a few other speakers. Of course Sony can't give very low bass but everything else is amazing for the price. I really like those and I won't ever sell those. I almost made that mistake but now on I'm gonna keep those.

    One of my favorite songs by Alanis and never heard it so amazing as with the Sony’s…Very spacious sounding with great detail and separation.
    Second track goes to Sony’s hands down…Sabbath sounded great with the Sony’s but a little thin sounding in my opinion…
    Thanks for doing this for us!
    Great to see how these speakers stack up against each other…

    Thanks for reminding me why I hate Alanis Morrissett but it's certainly a viable test track. Thought the Sony's had a more open sound stage. Both sound excellent. Superb. Great video comparing the two.

    I prefer the Sonys. They were able to create a greater sense of space/ambience, especially on the Yo Yo Ma track.

    Which did you like better? I have the M3s, and for me they have to be complimented with dual subs to get full range.

    • @2ChannelListening
      @2ChannelListening  2 года назад

      Hello iM, without bass reinforcement, strictly on their own, the Performance No.1's simply play more like a fuller range speaker and would be my choice. If I had two smaller, quick subwoofers, the Sony M3 would be right at home.

      I own Sony SS M3 and those are amazing speakers for the price. I have tired a few different amplifier with those and have to say, those really like a power. Now I use Matrix Audio mini-i pro 3, Pro-Ject amp box rs and Pro-Ject power box rs amp. 180W to 8 ohm per channel. Sound is perfect! 👌

    I miss Alanis Morrisette. It's like she vanished after jagged little pill. She was so good and wrote good lyrics. I assume she writes her own lyrics as good as they are.
    Lol these sound good don't get me wrong but they sound like small speakers. 😂 I just can't be satisfied with tiny speakers.
    I actually like the Sony sound better. 😬. $400 beat $3800 for me. They don't have that hollow room/echo sound in the vocals I hear in so many high end speakers.

    For me the Sony’s were softer sounding with a wide open sound stage and the Performance No. 1 were forwarding sounding with a stronger base presentation. It’s tough to pick a winner but based on what I herd the Sony speakers surprised me of how well they did perform.

  • @johnsweda2999

    What's your opinion?
    Looking at it I think the no 1 tweeter mid-range driver is the wrong type do you know the make of the drivers

    • @2ChannelListening
      @2ChannelListening  2 года назад

      I will say that the back wave bass was not getting picked up as much as I would have thought. In person, I would take the fuller presentation of the P1's all day long. In person the Sony sound light/thin, this was a really interesting experiment.
      The drivers are Polish, couldn't tell ya.

    • @johnsweda2999
      @johnsweda2999 2 года назад +1

      @@2ChannelListening made in house the drive.? Now what I can hear at my end the Sony is more rounder fuller bass, you're saying the opposite! interesting.
      how far are you away when you're recording? With the Sony's having a tilted baffle causes different room interaction so this would play a big part in the recording, you should elevate the mic or till to speak if using different types of baffle alignments in the test, of course then there's going to be a slight phase issue because it's tilted and design that way off-axis listening , so its bit horses for courses. To get accurate representation of a speaker you really need a microphone to be up close to the driver nearly touching so two-way would need two mics per speaker, and then in post-editing you'd have to mix them together and of course that takes all your room out of the equation and the bass Port so another plate mic would have to be set up on the ceiling at the back of the room to catch the bass and room and then mixed in.
      Just do one speaker when you're recording is much better easier just play it through as mono you get a better representation of the speaker plus you take the room out of the equation.

    • @2ChannelListening
      @2ChannelListening  2 года назад

      Eryk sources the drivers local, yes.
      Both speakers are nearly identical height, mix was at my 9x9 triangle. If I do all that you mention, then the point of getting an understanding of the speaker in room defeats the purpose, no? I certainly noticed the Sony sounding much better via recording than it does live - lol. Its a good speaker, but it has no bass reinforcement compared to the P1's. I can feel the bass of the P1's, not with the Sony.
      The Sony tilted baffle alignment is critical otherwise it does come off brighter when standing. It does sound very good with small ensemble arrangements. The rear port of the P1's give a nice weight off the back wall.

    • @johnsweda2999
      @johnsweda2999 2 года назад

      @@2ChannelListening you're not defeating point of the objective as I say by adding a room mic you can add back room and bass just gives you a cleaner sound
      Speaker you would like keep an eye out for (pearl acoustics sibelius), I don't think you're get readily second-hand about 4,500 new, very natural sound in instruments vocals if that's what you're looking for

    Nope, Sony's way better. The performance 1's sound like Alanis Morissette is in a tunnel and distant.

      Thank you Robert. The Sony's are cool and well built, but the Performance One's are next level stand mounts, very high quality cross-over parts and well thought out quasi-transmission design.
