Amazing thing about Ronnie's Voice is he never lost it, its sounded the same later in his career as it did in the beginning, there's not many that have done that. Most fade out later in their careers. Definitely one of the greatest rock singers of all time!
I saw this show June 25,1976 in Chicago at the Aragon Ballroom. Heart and Mahogany Rush opened the show. Rainbow opened with "Kill the King". Followed by Mistreated and 16th Century Greensleeves. From the start everyone was standing on the floor chairs with their mouths open and jaws on the ground. I will never forget seeing Ritchie and Ronnie together and playing "Stargazer". The version on the live "On Stage" album is even better, in fact, that album's got to be on the same level as "Made In Japan", just unreal performance all around.
Ken: On the other end of Ronnie's amazing vocal ability... Not sure if you ever heard what he did with Roger Glover for the BBC on the "Butterfly Ball". (Animated) Vocals are soft, beautiful and pitch is of course perfect. "Sitting in a Dream" is a great example of how he can be polar opposite of Mistreated and still be amazing...

So cool. Fun to watch and to listen. Ronnie’s voice is amazing here. What a great rock performance. No theatrics needed a total jam. Another awesome breakdown Ken!
Dio's vocal folds are so loose and flexible it sounds like he can hit whatever note he wants whenever he wants. His air support his unreal. he never sounds like he ever tightens up.
Dio just uses his chest mix but it always gives me the impression that he hits his extremely high notes in a chest voice, I can't feel any peak vibrations in his head on this version of Mistreated and that's really impressive, plus his fantastic breathing support , he has a lot of resistance and a lot of compression in his voice and that obviously allows him to hit those notes in that register with some ease; That sustained G5 that he hits in the song Wild One in the studio version, I'm sure he hit that note in pure chest voice and he demonstrates to master the larynx with technical excellence, when executing the note his throat is wide open and projected with high level of distortion and you can't see any peak of vibration in the head, it was impressive that he hit that G5 in a chest voice in my opinion and for many it is considered almost impossible for male singers.
Such a great blusey quality to his vocals. I'm not at all familiar with this singer, or for that matter, heavy metal, but I see I've missed out on something here. GREAT vocals! Thanks Ken. Kevin O'Rourke

If you havent hear JORN sing a dio song yet you will definitely be blown away how close Jorn sounds like Dio himself. Always love your reactions and thoughts on songs and vocals. Keep Rocking🎶🎤🤘
Jorn is the bastard child of Dio and Coverdale. I believe he started in The Company of Snakes and sung a few Coverdale songs. The man is a powerhouse although saw him live with Avantasia back in April and felt he had lost a bit of the old power.
He started pro singing when he was a teenager... he even sang the Norway Soccer Team anthem for the '94 world cup 😳 His best lps Imho are the 2 Ark ones and the first Beyond Twilight. Brilliant pipes!
Recorded this back in the eighties on VHS. Tape got more worn out than the 16 track of Bohemian Rhapsody. 😉 Too bad you missed the start of Dio's singing after the instrumental part.
True Story: RJD was recruited to sing on Kerry Livgren's album (1st album - once leaving Kansas) after Kerry converted to Christianity. RJD sang lead on 2 songs. One song "Live For The King" - Kerry gave Dio leverage to improvise and do "his thing" with it. It is a song about living for Christ and Dio when talking to Kerry, admitted he had no idea what the song was about! Listen to Kerry's interview on YT about the interaction they had for several hours. it is a "goose bump" song for sure.
One of my favorite songs sung by Dio. I first heard this a couple of decades back and was awe struck ( still am in fact ). I saw Dio on the Heaven And Hell tour with Sabbath in 80 then again for the Mob Rules tour, Sabbath and four or five more times on his solo projects. Once with a very new and unknown Queensryche who only had a four song record out at the time. I heard " Queen Of The Ryche" while driving way back when by this " new band out of Seattle " as they were described... Ken, I was so devastated by Tates voice I had to pull over to listen, I couldn't concentrate on driving and listening at the same time ( it may have saved lives I might add ). I love Coverdales version too. But Dio nails this song for sure ......
I've always loved this version with Dio. Every version with Glenn Hughes on vocals kills me. But... The original version, with Coverdale on vocals is my favorite. That's the one I can barely survive. The California Jam version is perfect. I was out of my mind when I heard the Whitesnake version from Donington in 1983. Killer stuff. So yeah... As much as I really love this version with Dio, and every single version with some out of this world singing by Glenn Hughes... Coverdale is the one that, in my opinion, sings the best and most honest version of this song. Anytime. He delivers some emotions that suit me best.
It's always a joy for me to watch your videos about my favourite singer of all times, Ronnie James Dio. You seem to enjoy every minute of it!. Also I have to thank you Ken, for giving me the tools and the perspective to achieve the correct application of the technique for performing with vocal compression. Greetings from Argentina!
If you can, try to react to Dio singing "Children of the Sea", whether solo or with Black Sabbath, whatever You Tube allows you. That's my favorite Black Sabbath-Dio era song.
Ken , you are definitely the most enjoyable vocal coach to watch. Could not help to smile right along with you watching this video. There is a video of a young guy that sang Neon nights with Queensryche in Chicago about ten years ago. He won a contest and performed the song on stage. look it up, I was there and this guy killed the Diorites voice.
Thank you for this Mr. Tamplin. Damn I hate cancer, thank goodness RJD is stored in video and audio. On a lighter note, I cannot wait to see the links of you and your very talented students.
Dio has to be in the top 5 metal vocalists of all time. The guy had such a natural talent for it, and the theatrics he'd work into his stage shows along with his lyrics. Man was one of a kind, don't think he'll ever be replaced or topped.
It's hard to beat Ronnie James Dio.
Indeed it is!
@Victor Hugo Alvarez Damasceno It's IMPOSSIBLE!
Dio is the best but David Coverdale live performance is better for this song
Wrong. It´s impossible to beat Ronnie James Dio.
It's a lost fight.
Dio epitomizes diaphragmatic singing. Not every voice is capable of this level of distortion and not every teacher is capable of teaching this. Incredible vocal tone.
Doesn't matter how many times I see DIO singing... I always feel like a child seeing his first bicycle. Always a good surprise. Fantastic.
I got goosebumps. For more than 30 years when I hear his voice.
Right there with you Demetrio.
It is a cryin shame this man is not in the Rock hall of fame

Jorn is the bastard child of Dio and Coverdale. I believe he started in The Company of Snakes and sung a few Coverdale songs. The man is a powerhouse although saw him live with Avantasia back in April and felt he had lost a bit of the old power.
He started pro singing when he was a teenager... he even sang the Norway Soccer Team anthem for the '94 world cup 😳
His best lps Imho are the 2 Ark ones and the first Beyond Twilight. Brilliant pipes!
Jørn Lande is Amazing!!!!
I could recommend Jorn Lande Ark work more than his Dio sque albums
Dio one of my all time favorites
Awesome!
Yes. The best live performance in the story of rock
Rock on!
Recorded this back in the eighties on VHS. Tape got more worn out than the 16 track of Bohemian Rhapsody. 😉
Too bad you missed the start of Dio's singing after the instrumental part.
Dio
.... owns them all
The solo guitar there. Is such godness!!...so..spiritual..!
🎸🎸🎸
WHAT A cover...! Dio's on fire 🔥🔥 😍 Great selection Ken 👏👏
Thanks , Ken, I saw that you enjoyed this as a fan and made me enjoyed so much your reaction. Dio was a rock icon, unforgettable.
Thanks, Dani!
Great thoughts! Thank you Ken!
Such a big voice! Never heard this song. Loved it! Ty Ken.
Glad you appreciate it!
I never heard it either.
It's so good to see you actually enjoying the song... Not many so called Vocal Coaches does that, and so not many can sing like you.
The proof is in the singing!
@@kentamplin yes sir definitely
Outstanding RJD performance. One of a kind. I love Glenn´s high pitched vocals at the end in the DP version.
Rock on!
I knew there had to be more epic Dio performances out there. That voice is just too good.
Right?
If you can, try to react to Dio singing "Children of the Sea", whether solo or with Black Sabbath, whatever You Tube allows you. That's my favorite Black Sabbath-Dio era song.
Thanks for the suggestion.
Ken, your singing is impressive to say the least.
I’m gonna throw Invisible out there, love that song.
My fav song of his too! The live performance of it on youtube from 83 (I think) is amazing!!!
Glad you enjoyed it, poot!
You also sounds like Ronnie when screamin Mr. Tamplin😂😂😂 i love that kind of screaming style👏👏👏👏
Thank you!
Dio said in many interviews that one of his favorite singers was Glenn Hughes.
Thanks for that tidbit, Carlos!
Glenn Hughes sang at Dio´s memorial, Catch the rainbow (Rainbow) was one of the songs.
Wow really? For me is Glenn more a bass guitar player and just a decent singer.
Lucy Coe really? Check out Black Country Communion.
Hughes is known as the singers singer🤘
Dio has to be in the top 5 metal vocalists of all time. The guy had such a natural talent for it, and the theatrics he'd work into his stage shows along with his lyrics. Man was one of a kind, don't think he'll ever be replaced or topped.
Dio is the best vocalist of rock/metal of all time.
