Happy Birthday, James! I, like you, have celebrated many birthdays alone but I always try to treat myself to something special on those occasions. I am so glad you enjoyed your meal at 63 Clinton. The tasting menu looked wonderful and you took us on a fabulous journey of each course with you. Belated happy birthday sir. I just started watching your posts and very impressed with the insight in dining at some of these fantastic restaurants. I remember my single life days and did not have the courage to dine out, alone. I give you the salute for your dedication to the art of dining!

Love your videos and honest commentary on each establishment you experience. Happy that you are living your dream of experiencing life through food and travel. Whether it is with a partner or by yourself, enjoy the journey. Having a life partner is great but it is not what defines you are the wonderful, insightful man that you are. BTW, review more Italian places....i am a sucker for anything Italian.
I know what you mean. It can definitely be a little intimidating to dine at a restaurant alone, but sometimes it's just tough to get people to join, especially when the food can be costly like at a Michelin starred restaurant. 63 Clinton in particular, had great service and made me feel so welcome even though it was just me. I hope you enjoy it!
First off... Happy Birthday! You're not alone because there are people that appreciate you. It's my b'day tomorrow, and I'll be solo. But, I'll probably have White Castle instead of anything starred 😂 This looks great! I had a tiny studio on Ludlow for a year. Great neighborhood. I'll get down there one fine day.
Thank you! I really appreciate it! And Happy Birthday to you too! You can't go wrong with White Castle, it's a classic! Yeah, the Lower East Side is awesome! It has such a great mix of food and restaurants!
I may go into it further one day, but basically, I started running pretty suddenly. I did a 5k and then just kept wanting to run further and further until I ran my first marathon about 3 months after I started.
Not sure whether to wish you a belated birthday or pre birthday for next year since it’s now November. So Happy Day!!! Every day! Although I gave you a thumbs up, I would not be a big fan of a restaurant like this. It appeared to be a bit too grungy and the decor seemed patched together, The garbage in front of the restaurant before you go in to eat was a nice touch as was the peeling paint. Some of the food looked good but not a big fan of the presentations or food combos. (Giant gray rustic pottery plate with 1 tbs of food). I know it’s the trend to present food on huge plates with a small amount of food but at least provide beautiful plates. Grey/gray plates make the food look unappetizing. But…hey it was your birthday and you enjoyed it so that is all that matters.
Thank you! It was a great meal! Yeah, the interior was nothing special, but it was clean and the trash outside is just unfortunately part of the neighborhood.
Interesting to watch these reviews of some of the less well known Michelin restaurants in NYC. I went to 3 on my last visit in 2017 (Nix, Kajitsu and Dovetail) and they've all since closed! So on the lookout for options for my next trip.
That's a shame. It's hard running a restaurant, but it's got to be really tough to run a Michelin Starred establishment. I would definitely recommend 63 Clinton. I really enjoyed the food and I felt like the restaurant provided great value.
@@Jamesnu The pandemic hit a lot of restaurants hard and continues to have a knock on effect. We're even seeing some of the really heavy hitters closing here in the UK - Le Gavroche (the first UK restaurant to get 1, 2 AND 3 stars) and Marcus have both announced they will be closing shortly. Luckily, I've already eaten at both but it's definitely a sign of changing times in hospitality. I can live with it if it means an influx of new places coming out of left field though.
