In this video we explore the slow flight characteristics of this fantastic new C-130 from Avios and HobbyKing. In our first flight test video we flew relatively fast. Quite normal to do that on initial flights so as not to risk stalling. But with the confidence of the 2 first flights in the bag we climbed out after take off, dropped the flaps and explored how slow this big 1.6m cargo carrier can fly.
Filmed at our local BMFA affiliated model flying club by Caz for the 'Essential RC' RUclips channel using the Panasonic AG-UX180 Pro 4K camcorder. Dom Mitchell infront of camera and on the sticks.

Appreciate the feedback. A small but fixable problem with this C130 is that the battery strap only allows the flight battery to be put in one position...and that actually leads to quite heavy landings. In hindsight I would have glued in some heavy duty velcro so could position the lipo 1 inch further back. It would fly a lot slower with nose up and a bit more power.

Thanks for the review . I’m still currently setting mine up. I see you outboard boards go a lot lower than the inboard . Maybe I read the manual wrong, but it suggested to use 13mm outboard deflection? What do you have yours set at?

Great video. That plane is awesome. I want to get more experience flying RC planes before getting that big boy. Which transmitter would you recommend I to fly the c130 and to get deeper in the RC hobby? Thanks a bunch.

It looks like you have a mix in the radio with both outer and inner flaps. Is that right?

The first batch were sold through a lottery system for the chance to buy. That's finished and the model will be released via the web site early January apparently. I'll publish another video when that happens. Advise you subscribe and look out for it. Cheers Dom (Essential RC)
In real life the C-130 can fly nicely slowly. Nice to try if this beautiful scale model can do it too. I love this. If he would have been a bit bigger, he was a little slower. But this Avios RC Hercules does it in fact not bad.
how big is the cargo bay. and is there enough room for a low level delivery package???????
Big enough to drop something scale size but would need to be fairly light so as not to compromise the CG or move around in flight. Dispensing cargo smoothly would need a little thought. There are 2 supports. One either side of the door which could block cargo from being released but with thought could be overcome. Cheers Dom (Essential RC)

nice video mate, i like it, and the plane looks sort of ok too from my point of view - HK gets a few points removed from its final rating because of the huge US emblem on the fuselage, which looks out of place, still very nice bird...but about the slow speed thing i have to say "hm". As you said, "it is reasonable slow for its size" but it seems a bit of a struggle to keep her in the air at that speed. But the main point here is, it does not look slow or slow enough imho. Or in otherwords you dont reach the "scale speed" for this particular plane/model, perhaps a gyro system like graupners 3xG or Spektrum AS3X can help with that. On the other hand, maybe its just the video, it does not always convey the real impression, specially in case of speed. I guess we need more video footage to get a final verdict on her slow fllight capabilities, anyway thanks for the video, cheers
Might try a gyro to see if that helps! I use Powerbox iGyro 3e in my 35% Extra. Will have to get another one to try out in big foamies like this. Cheers Dom (Essential RC)

For daylight, those lights are definitely bright.
I think so to actually. Only my camera person's 3rd video. Just needs to learn the fine art of zooming but otherwise doing very well. Yup...the lights are quite impressive. Nice to see them when I make that final turn before the approach for landing. Cheers Dom (Essential RC)
@@EssentialRC Yes, I saw the tail lights on a turn, very important for night flight orientation.
Zooming is a fine art. IMHO, only zoom when far out, but keep centered always and she did well. Zoom using pan tilt in editing, if need be, because when race tracking it is too easy to loose it all together and get frustrated.
Always unzoom when the plane is starting towards the airfield/close.
Seeing how the camera person is more important than the pilot, she should not be afraid to say step back pilot I'm shooting here!

BTW In this video, ground speed reference was important and zooming would have negated the point of the video. Just funny irony.
What would be a cool shot for zooming is the camera person setting up on the far left of the airfield and after you fly over start the zooming for parachute dropping in a straight, steady and smooth line.

@@EssentialRC I learned the hard way that the original props should be replaced. They have upgraded props out there. Passing on some information to C130 owners out there.
I'd have gone for "camera operator" :D I suppose the 360 camera has some value but I find them distracting. Others will like them.

Hmmm. I'll suggest that! 360 is not for everyone I get that. Scale slow. I think so. I don't think even the full size C-130 would fly any slower. I saw one at RIAT earlier this year. Was quite amazing to watch it in action. Cheers Dom (Essential RC)
As this model is about 1/25th (?) scale and the stall speed of the full size is about 120mph the model scale stall speed should be around 4mph so it's not that far away _amazing what you learn from liking air-portable landrovers_ ;) It does fly slow enough for demonstration purposes and I certainly wouldn't fly any slower than you flew it.
Pretty slow for that scale wing! Take it up higher and see it stall! Lol! I wish Hobbyking would release their video, guess we have to wake 'till next year!
I did see another video with a stall athough probably without flaps. Takes some height for recovery so I'm not inclined to try it myself. Cheers Dom (Essential RC)

There are 2 schemes. The blue/yellow 'Fat Albert' Blue Angels scheme and the military grey scheme.

Not a very proud young woman my wife hates the fact women are programmed to be offended by being called anything womanly....shes 25 and is confident in who she is. She calls me her man and I don't take it wrong either lol
I have never known anybody as longwinded as this guy!! Days go by before he makes his point. Days of intro, lead in, segways, and dancing around, before showing anything. I had to mute and fst fwd...
Probably better you don't watch at all if you don't like our informative style of videos. Plenty of other RC channels out there buddy. Sorry to disappoint but I needed to answer questions I got on the first video for this model. I don't get why using FFWD would be so frustrating personally...although it is Monday. Folks always do like a moan on a Monday after a weekend.

If you are in too much of a rush to appreciate the gear door opening and closing and other useful information then maybe move on from this entire hobby.
