These companies are way over their heads if they think people are gonna be “passionate” working a boring minimum wage job. Majority people do it “for the paycheck” no doubt
Seriously, if you want passion you need to pay for it.
@@darcymoon2109 not necessarily! Some people DO love their jobs, including working for candle making companies. Not all jobs that people enjoy are harder to get. There’s no rush out there to get the same one or two jobs as everyone has different interests.
Overused word again. Do these people have a clue that very few people find their "passion" in the workforce?!
@@Lacroix999 Don’t be naive. It is work and that’s why we get paid to do it. If it was *fun* I’d be paying someone to get to do it.
And no matter how much passion you have - do it day after day and it wears thin.
This ceo with the 4 months off a year has not a clue what it is like to only get 2 weeks off and not have any money to do anything.
@@darcymoon2109 everyone have a different definition as to what “fun” means. Some people love to crunch numbers, others cringe at the thought of having to do taxes even once per year or budget once a month. There’s always going to be some level of grunge work even when running your own business of your preferred choosing even one where it truly is your life’s passion doing so. That’s just life and we need to trudge through it to get it done…or pay someone else to do so, but even then you have to work to make money to pay to outsource that task either way. So you can either suck it up and just do it, or suck up doing something else to make money to do so-your pick. So yes, while you’re not going to love 100% of your job 100% of the time, you CAN choose to do so you love and either way, your job choice is just that-a CHOICE and you can choose where you want to work at, whether you want to work, your chosen career path, whether to start your own business instead of doing so, but yes, you DO get to choose what you want to do. You can choose a sucky job, or one you love. And just because you love your job, doesn’t mean everyone around you does/will as well, same goes for your neighbors/friends/family because we all do have different interests in life. That’s not called being naïve, that’s called being realistic, having logic and sensible because that’s the truth of it all. If you love what you do, you can look past the crap load part of it and it wears thinner on those who already hate/dislike/don’t care for what they’re doing. Ultimately, you get to choose how bad it sucks for you either way. It is a matter of perspective. You get to choose whether you want walk into work with a mentality of wanting to punch the next 8yr who walks in the door in the face or you can get over your issues and treat it like it is-a job you’re getting paid to do and smile and be polite or you can actually find something you do love about your workplace/employees/clients/environment/etc or you can choose to find a new job somewhere else that suits your passions a lot better. No one is forcing you to love your job or even making you go every day except yourself! Life’s too short to stay somewhere you hate if you’re horribly miserable. That’s not ‘privilege’ when everyone on this planet has that same option to make that choice and the only one hold you back hating on that job you’re forcing yourself to stay at that you hate so much-expect yourself! But, yes, there ARE people out there who do love their jobs and are living their dreams out to the fullest! The sad part about all of this is that you there are people out there who think they can’t do the same because they’re brainwashed into thinking that doing so is “naïve”. There’s sucky parts in life everywhere you look and have to deal with that as well. It won’t be 100% peachy keen all the time, but that is just how life goes for anything. If you have kids, you may love them to death but hate changing diapers. You want and love your car, but hate having to pay to fill it up and maintain it. You want a spouse, but don’t always 100% agree with them and need to learn to navigate around communication to get your needs met. You choose to stay single and maybe you have times where you get lonely. You need to eat 3x a day, but maybe you hate cooking. You love the idea of owning your own home, but hate that you have to call a plumber to fix the leaky pipe…..the list goes on and on. Same goes for life circumstances, not just at your job/career. That doesn’t mean you can’t make those choices and still want those things. If we didn’t care about anything unless we were 100% satisfied all the way around, we wouldn’t ever do/have/be anything in life ever because life doesn’t work that way.
There ARE “fun” careers out there that people DO get paid to do-that IS obviously assuming that you DO love what you’re doing. My oldest aspires to work at LEGO one day and I’m living my dream career in as an artist painting. While he doesn’t work there now, you can’t tell me that a company like LEGO got to where it is today because they don’t have fun there and there aren’t people who want to join them in their mission to bring fun and happiness to the world for others. So, yes, so you can get paid to have a fun job you do love. I’m proof of that! Work/jobs do not necessarily have to equate to laborious and drudgery! Those are, for the most part, arbitrary standards we put on ourselves. If that’s what you believe, I feel sorry for you that you never aspired to do better for yourself. Life’s to short to ‘have’ to do something you hate for so much time of your life for so long!
The CEO must be hard pressed to find someone who is passionate about dipping minging hands into wax for what is probably minimum wage. Fair play to the employee for telling it how it is.
Gets 23 an hour
@@jameshusentoff2953 wait thats what they pay over there?
Yep Yankee candle is actually a great company to work for. My grandma has been working there for years.
Props to the CEO as well. He showed great leadership. Most CEOs would’ve fired him and found the next miserable soul. He actually tried to get the whole picture of the situation. Including the employees personal hardship. That’s true leadership.
It's rough sometimes. you can be passionate about something, and have life unexpectedly drag you down.
I was working a job I loved and found out at 32 years old, that I have celiac disease, and am most likely on the spectrum. I got intussusception from unintentionally eating everything I'm not supposed to (which is how i found out in the hospital) and put myself off work for over 3 weeks almost requiring surgery.. unfortunately i was not unionized yet, under my 3 month probationary, and they weren't willing to hold my position for me. I've felt like punching or breaking something for the past little bit myself.
you go your whole life thinking everything is fine and your just a little weird and BAM suddenly you might have asbergers, and a minor disease... and a whole lot of people go through much worse than me every day. it's understandable that you can't be sunshine and roses all the time.

That escalated quickly

It just showes that he care
The guy with the glasses is very cleaver. He was very calm sitting there talking to the CEO. Probably was thinking...how can I get the CEO to believe my B.S Story and hopefully he will make me a manager of the store where I can sit on my ass all day and play video games in the office. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

this kid is probably getting paid like 10 dollars an hour and the ceo wants passion out of him? this is how out of touch ceos are
This aired in 2012 when Massachusetts minimum wage was $8.00, so they probably paid around $9.00/hour. $315 (after tax) a week is complete shit. The CEO was making an average of $885/hour.
He would have had to work 98.5 hours just to make what the CEO made in 1 hour.

Facts and Funny, Them Candles Do cost too much and Some don’t even have the house Smelling legit 🤷🏾♂️😁
The CEO was really out of touch and needs to reevaluate who the majority of his employees are in demographic. If majority are young then it's clearly just a paycheck to them to get by for bills and college dunno what else you expect.
True, but people shouldn't stay at jobs that they don't enjoy. They should find somewhere where they want to advance. I think all young men need to work in warehouses or construction when they are 18. It creates work ethics. It gives them skills. Those skills learned along the way, could be assets to advance once you find something to make a career out of.
Flavored 👀 please don't taste the candles 😂. ( I will clarify this is a joke)
Lmao why would this guy expect people to be passionate about dipping strangers hands in wax all day

it does seem quite delusional. sure the owner might be really passionate about dipping peoples hands but thats not his job. i bet it would drive him insane if he knew that he had to put peoples hands into wax for 8 hours to stay alive rather than doing it for fun and being the owner. he seems like the type of guy to put "looking for employees who are here for the job and not the paycheck" into the hiring process.

I'm actually in this situation; I'm trying to find a job that I feel excited to go to work and not something that makes me want to push myself too hard to really feel so happy.
It's all a matter of perspective. Once you start appreciating what you regardless of your problems always remember your life is many other people's dreams. Once you get in that mindset everything new is a blessing. If it happens it's great and if not you are already happy.
Jobs may not always be exciting but they pay the bill, what you do outside of the job of during your breaks could be exciting or working hard to save up for vacation could be exciting.
truth be told, you will probably always be looking for that, I know I am, you think you find it then something will spoil it (usually people, or you realise how much your time is worth to the company, but how little they pay you in comparrison) my advice, work for yourself, find something you can get into the groove with that you can do in your own time at your own pace.. thats the hard bit, till then, any job is experience as it will feed you with information that you can make better decisions on.

Yeah, working for nothing for someone else's suit and tie - that's exactly the "career" this young man had in mind. Its too bad (for him) he said something not perfectly PC on the job. Kids (and adults) in retail as a customer can be monsters sometimes (as well as awesome) humans. I'm soooo glad Blaze said, "this is a paycheck ", that worker has his priorities straight, and he's honest. The CEO is enjoying flexing his perceived power and watching someone squirm, and thinking he's important. He may actually be, but coming off that way is not anyone I'd work for - or rather WITH. Respect is a two-way street and much better for business. Yes, we have kids so they'll grow up and have careers at the McDonald's of Candle shops - NOT! Please, Mr. CEO I'd be stoked you had an honest person there trying to cope with awful people. Some 8 year olds act poorly, its Blaze that didn't ACT poorly. That's maturity. I hope Blaze's next "boss" is a kinder, less condescending human. Blaze, get out the there, you can do SOO much better, with half your brain tied behind your back - all day. And I recommend you not work somewhere that you are forced to deal with icky people (and keep smiling because you don't count). Yankee candle is wayyy beneath you. Dang, I used to love Yankee Candles. This show was very illuminating.
It’s not particularly mature to admit to want to beat customers up when not at work. It means that you have anger issues and are possibly a narcissistic psychopath.

First and foremost: this show sounds 90% scripted. I wouldnt be surprised if some of the people are actors and dont actually work for the company. In realtiy, most episodes would just be people doing their work as they are expected to, they would definitely hold back any negative energy knowing there is a TV team around and guess what: not everyone has an interesting backstory.
But aside the fact its a written script: the way he feels and works is just fine for a low paying job. We go to work to afford a life, we dont live to go to work. I personally like my job, but i dont give a shit about my CEOs visions. I want the time and resources i need to deliver my best, but i dont care if i like or dislike our products, visions, etc. Im there to do a job, not to join a religion. As long as we are not talking some inhumane company like nestle, im there to trade my skills and time for a paycheck.
they had an undercover boss in my town, my buddy that worked there said that he had no idea because the camera team claimed they were there for a “documentary”
It's scripted reality. They record everything and then clip and stick things together to make a good story out of it.
Well if you don’t care about my visions you’re fired!
My EXACT thoughts , then I glanced down and saw your comment. : ) XOXO

I’m guessing the only guy who is passionate about candles. Is the guy who is running a candle company.
most people, especially young, come to work just for a paycheck. You can't expect them to be "passionate" about it, especially if it's an entry level job. As a business owner, you need to create a friendly environment but you can't expect people to be passionate about it. I used to work in retail when I was young and it always felt so fake when the managers demanded us to be passionate about some outfits. Give me a break ..

I feel the same way when I head to work. I hate my job but i have to motivate myself every morning and say " things will get better" I am living paycheck after paycheck and I don't feel that it is a career but just a paycheck. Especially when you are working with people who has favoritism of the same race and culture. You feel left out and you feel like a nobody. Take a career assessment test and then go volunteer or internship at a place that you want to join. Your job is just a bridge to get to where you want to go.

It’s important to discover what your true interest are, have counseling and roll models who truly care. Wish I could’ve had them
Setting the fact that this is obviously staged aside. No one would say this stuff while having a mic and a camera shoved in your face. Even if he fell for the costume: he knows hes part of a tv show - he knows his boss would see this. I see a lot of comments here that are pretty depressing. I used to have a business and I can tell you right now I loved it when people would talk to me about what they wanted and share ideas they had to make things better. If you’re not happy talk to someone if you’re able and do it with a genuine approach that you want to do the best job you can. Most managers or owners don’t know how the employees feel because the employees are scared to open up. With that said some managers and bosses are just asshats and you’re better off going somewhere else
This is helpful, though of course there can always be more nuance. It's not always the specific job that someone isn't passionate about it can also be the sector or industry itself. And that likely won't change with just a conversation. And to that point I get where he said it's just a paycheck. I don't think it's necessary to be passionate about your job to carry it out, though it helps.
Also to the point of employees not opening up to managers I think it's a task that requires both sides to create an environment for transparency and openness. I was lucky enough to have managers that encouraged such traits, which gave me the confidence to share. And to your point it helped all of us improve professionally and improved our morale
@@MIent1313 absolutely. I’ve worked jobs that I hated because I needed a check. That’s a necessity sometimes. However, if you’re in that situation then spend every moment of your free time looking for a new path. Don’t escape into alcohol or games or TV or drugs. It’s so easy to do when you’re not happy and you just want to relax. It will pay off though if you put the work on finding a new path even when you would rather do literally anything else
Your selling candles bro it is a paycheck 🤣
That boss actually seems like a really nice guy and so does the lad. I wish them both well 🙏🏻
Every employee in America would like to speak with you sir lmao
It’s like being called up to the principal office
Edit: Guidance councilor 😭😂😭😭😭
This CEO is a superrr cool dude. Love him NOT firing this guy and talking to him to meet him EXACTLY WHERE he is. THANK GOD FOR PEOPLE LIKE HIM!!!
This CEO is completely out of touch. Underpays his workers and does not have a union within his company. Why would you praise this man?
This kid needs his own TV show. He understands television.
“My dad beat his drug and alcohol addiction so I’m mad when I come to work”, lol what?
What’s crazy is these ppl say you gotta be passionate about the job but how can you be passionate when your workin for somebody else’s dream??
I get what he was trying to say it just didn’t come out right 😂😂
It’s pretty easy to tell ceo was putting up a compassionate front, you can tell by his eyes and mannerisms he’s cold lmao.
Not sure why the comments are hating on the CEO here. He handled things better than I expected and made an effort to help him figure out a career that he wanted to pursue, fully understanding that the kid was right, the job wasn't for him and is only a paycheck
seee? You can NEVER judge a book by its cover! You never knw what somebody is going through! This made me cry for him!
Whaaaaaaaaaat !!! He didn’t give him any money 🤣
So wild to see Harlan. So much has changed in 10 years.
They really thought that wig was acceptable 😂
Sometimes we know we can be the greatest we just need that 1 person to give a helpin hand
i mean look at the wig and stuff, they had better in 1960s movies
You can tell he’s holding onto other peoples problems and he takes it out on others…
I like this kid, hes honest full on, even if you don't like what he might say
Why did Dan look better with the wig 🤣🤣
There is SOOOOO much crap going on in the world, affecting people every day, getting stressed and full of anxieties......and there's nobody to talk to. Finding somebody that is willing to listen, can ACTUALLY understand you without being judgemental and condescending, and WANT to help you work through things is a rarity.
The CEO handled the situation correctly sometimes you can't just write people off and fire them sometimes all it takes is a little love compassion and understanding to get through to someone and change there life for the better the ceo was just like him when he started working day to day living off a paycheck so he could sympathize with this guy and this guy was honest and said how he really felt.
ceo looks like a phil coulson
NGL with the wig on, I thought he was Woody Harrelson (Venom) at first.
This ceo is out of touch with his employees Fr glad the guy stood up for himself cause it is just a paycheck
A job shouldn’t be called merely a job. It should be a 2nd home,a place where you feel comfortable and a place where you are helping each other out to get tasks done throughout the day.
Until you have democracy within your workplace via union or socialist revolution. Your job will always be a place that exploits you.
@@t00bgazer My point flew over your head it seems. Do you care about democracy/nationalism/socialism/unions in your family?
