agree.... having had mine now for 2 weeks, there are a lot of bugs and issues he should have hit on.. wonder if Apple does't like it when he doesn't give a fully honest review..
@@Sams911 What bugs and issues have you had? I'm thinking of getting a 14in 10‑core CPU and 16‑core GPU and ive watched a ton of videos. The only issue i've seen is that sometimes it might just crash randomly but really rarely.
Got the 16” - it’s only 1.2 pounds heavier than the 14” and I can live with that for the larger screen and better battery life! You would think it was 20 pounds heavier than the 14” when you read comments.
The 16" is actually half as thick and much lighter than some 15" PC laptops I was "carrying around", just a few years back! I use this actually "on" my lap, most of the time. I carry it to coffee shops, office, and various locations in a 15" backpack! After using 17" and 16" screens, I can never go back to those tiny screens (I had a 13" for 5 years). I'll take the better thermals and performance, better speakers, larger screen real estate (ya, I don't have to squint), immersive content viewing experience, and better battery life (the MOST important thing to me) any day.... ☕😎💜
MagSafe is great. I'm glad it's back, in addition to the ability to use USB. I don't travel much anymore, so the 16" with the added safety of a magnetic release is a good fit for me. Hopefully, the redesigned power cable may actually be able to handle the amperage without self-destructing like the prior generations did.
2:05 the point of it is to provide an additional thunderbolt port and still have power connected via its own dedicated port, especially for audio producers like myself who can never have enough thunderbolt ports 😂😂😂 for audio interfaces, external SSDs, etc.

There's one more thing you forgot to mention about the keyboard; while it still uses a scissor-switch design, it now only has 0.9 mm of travel compared to the previous MacBook Airs and Pros having exactly 1.0 mm of travel. And yet it still feels good.
@@guacfiend Yes but only to a degree. The butterfly keyboard failed not only because of the short travel, which was divisive (in addition to the noise while typing) but because the switch could be jammed by ANY debris entering the switch and if the computer got too hot (that generation was especially known for hot CPUs and surface temperatures), the switch could potentially warp, which could explain the double-type issue. I don't like less travel in my keyboards usually, but this iteration of the Magic Keyboard feels more responsive than the previous generation on the 16 inch and it is much more reliable as I've never heard of a scissor switch with a repeating key issue (every model of the butterfly keyboard seems to have that multiple inputting issue more than the key not working outright) and honestly, it's better than the butterfly keyboard, which I returned a 2018 13 inch MacBook Pro for that reason alone, and I could never get used to it...
I use Bartender 4 to overcome the limitations of the size of my menubar on my 16" MBP. Yes you have to pay for it, but it does solve a UI issue that Apple should have dealt with.

Yes, it's great to charge your laptop and other gadgets with just one type of cable whilst travelling - I agree on that. But not seeing the point of using a magsafe 3? The name says it all - mag+safe... :) accidentally tripping over magsafe3 cord would end much differently than tripping over a usb-c/thunderbolt cord. Tripping over cords has higher chances of happening whilst travelling. :)
I agree and I’m sure he knows the reason even though he said he doesn’t see the point. Ok say though that it’s a real strong magnet this time and I don’t know how reliable it’ll be in coming out…
it is not recommended to run crossover on M1 Macbook Air, the temperature will quickly increase to 100 deg C, use crossover on M1x Macbook Pro instead since MBP has fans to dissipate the excess heat.
I would have done the ports like this: Right side (from left to right): SD Card slot, Thunderbolt 4 port, HDMI port (there may have been bandwidth limitations that prevented Apple from including HDMI 2.1, not the end of the world though). Left side (from right to left): 3.5mm headphone jack port, USB-A 3.0 port, two Thunderbolt 4 ports, MagSafe Port. So yeah, basically what we had in 2015 except the USB-A port on the right side and the Thunderbolt 2 ports on the left sidd would be Thunderbolt 4 instead. Honestly, that would be perfect for those e-licensers like some brands use for DRM professional programs or even the Logitech radio dongle for their devices that don't use Bluetooth.
Nice, review, just wondering if you know why the 24 core 14" MacBook pro is so hard to find. I got the 10,16,16 and wanted to use my 30day return option to get the 24 core instead. But they are nowhere to be found, the earliest shipping date that I can find is two months away!
4th gen was really bad. I have a 13 inch 2019 macbook pro base model. My screen had a line on it after one year of use. The lack of ports is really anoying, i really need to take always the dock with me just because of the need of the sd card slot.
The thing that gets me on my nerve is the lack of user replaceable ssds . Sure the ram blah blah blah , but at least I want to upgrade the freaking ssds ! And their prices for storage are crazy expensive .
Not to mention if they fail, you have to get the entire motherboard replaced. Unlike the RAM, which I understand because LPDDR RAM is always soldered, but even Microsoft has their ARM tablets with removable storage. And the fact that this one does solder the SSD makes me think it's not required...
I remember the time when I used to watch your videos (and generally RUclips) to realize which model of an Apple product I wanna get, it was before our economy crashed...
I need help before I make a huge mistake, I’m starting college next month as a freshman majoring in computer science and I don’t know what to get, either the new macs or the MacBook Air
I got my 16 inch MacBook Pro today. It is very large. I don't know whether to return it and get the 14 or keep it! I do like having a bigger screen. I used to have the 15 inch and then switched to the 13 and have planned on getting the bigger size ever since. But now I don't know....
Still got my late 2013 16” MBP. It’s still running well, although it reboots itself occasionally. I’ve installed Monterey ok, but I think that’s going to be the last major update…
Obviously you have not put the Mac under a heavy load because my 16” drains the battery slowly because the usb c is not powerful enough to keep it charge. Most of my cycle counts are down to it being plugged in which is annoying.

1:45 can you really connect it to a 4k 120hz tv or monitor with an adapter though? HDMI 2.1 is 48 GBPS whereas thunderbolt 4 is 40GBPS, and I’m assuming a standard usb type c adapter would just render it to even lower speeds, outputting 4k at 60 hz regardless on a 120 hz screen
Yes, it will be impossible to get the full 48 Gbps HDMI 2.1 bandwidth over Thunderbolt, but there should be enough to get 4k 120Hz 8-bit RGB. There are a number of TVs whose HDMI 2.1 ports only accept up to 40 Gbps.
There isn't going to be a notch; Apple won't release a white notch on their laptops as it would honestly look so much worse than the black one on their MacBook Pros; the bezel would just be larger all the way around to accommodate the webcam.

2:06 Daniel, I'm going to have to disagree with you on this one. I don't know why Apple removed it at all (it was a proprietary port and we know Apple loves those on the iPhones with Lightning) and I've saved both my mom's (formerly my) 2008 unibody MacBook Pro and 2015 15 inch MacBook Pros thanks to MagSafe. I went to Windows in 2016 and actually canceled my 2018 13 inch MacBook Pro due to that HORRIBLE butterfly keyboard that had no business being on a what was originally a professional laptop with a great keyboard then reduced to one with a very divisive typing experience and a very unreliable record that Apple could never fix. For the first time since 2015, and heck, the first time since Steve Jobs's death, I have a lot more faith in Apple than I did in 2012 with iOS 7 and with the 2013 trashcan Mac *Not* Pro and 2016 - 2019 MacBook *Not* Pro. It seems Apple has actually been much more considerate to the user base that kept them alive until Steve Jobs returned to Apple (they were weeks away from going bankrupt when Steve Jobs returned and pulled the company from shambles to the most valuable technology company by his death).
I love your videos a ton! I was wondering, I am starting to my tech channel an am trying to create higher quality content, I working on a video that I really want to do right, how did you create this text at 1:02 ? that editing trick would be useful for me! :)
The MBA with 16GB and 1TB (8 core CPU and 8 core GPU) is much better than the MBP 14" because it is much thinner, lighter and absolute quiet because of fanless. God sake, it also has no TouchBar and Notch! All testers compared the the smallest configuration 8 GB 256 GB with 8 core CPU and only 7 core GPU of the MBA to the MBP 14", that is not right! The only port I sometimes would need in the MBA is a normal USB, that is also missing in the MBP 14"!
I miss the Touch Bar.... Access to autofill was easier, access to trash, access to volume, text type/size/ emojis, and the list goes on... should have kept the touch bar, and added half height F keys..
Saw them last week in the store, they are soooo thick and chunky. I stick with the last generation. Unfortunately it seems like they won’t get slimmer soon.
Believe it or not, it’s actually only slightly thicker. The reason why it looks thicker is because of the boxy squared off design unlike the previous generation where they shaved off the sides. The boxy design, while not aesthetically pleasing for some, allows for better cooling so I can see why Apple decided to take this route instead
@@matnat21 Sure, I get why ists easier to build a better cooling into this design. But I had it in my hand and specially the 14" is really chunky in my opinion. The 16" due to the larger footprint feels a bit more balanced but also heavy.
1:24 That SD card slot was outright stupid to remove. There's no replacing SD card slots in the industry, except for MAYBE CF (compact flash) card in some very-high end cameras, however, that would never fit in a laptop of this size, so that's fine.
This is just a review and you pointed out what other first-time reviews present. You didn’t really talk about what issues you come across, any QC issues, or how it improved your workflow than its predecessor, etc etc. Please delete this video and re-do an actual 1-month review.
You might as well get the MacBook Air or go straight for the M1 Pro MacBook Pro; the M1 MacBook Pro feels like a transitionary product that will be phased out soon.
16:00 Tell me a Windows laptop that is similar in performance that's thinner than the new MacBooks or else I dare you to say that again. The MacBook Pros aren't supposed to be thin; they're supposed to be tools to make money for their users; those people care more about battery life and thermals rather than less than 0.5 pounds of weight...
Great review! I couldn't agree more with your points about new/old ports and the design of chassis (which looks like older model, not new). I really dont know what Apple is doing.
they had to make it chunkier to make it more powerful. Honestly, the obsession with “sleekness” was my major source of frustration with the past macbooks. Bring the function over form back!!! i’m happy with a chunkier powerful machine
@@pieroschlochauer2186 I agree 100%. If Apple wants to make ultra-thin MacBook Airs for consumers, then that's fine. But for a professional-level machine, that is the wrong idea. And I actually like the design, it kind of feels like the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd generation of MacBook Pros all mixed together (the shape of the first two generations with a similar port layout to the 3rd generation). This would give more proof that the 4th generation being a dead-end for the MacBook Pro lineup.
After seeing all these reviews about the new Macbook pro's was really keen moving to apple after being with windows for decades. Went to the local shop to see the 2 new 2021 models and is really disappointed, they are bulky and ugly, the ipads look much better in comparison. my 3 year old Surface Book 2 is much better in design and screen quality. Might wait another year now.

I got the 14" and thinking on returning it and get a MBA instead.
bro your dress code is reminisce of Steve jobs.
I miss the Touch Bar.... Access to autofill was easier, access to trash, access to volume, text type/size/ emojis, and the list goes on... should have kept the touch bar, and added half height F keys..
Imagine making a thicker macbook than thinner after 4 years LMAO GJ AMAZON
Apple does it again...I really do not see why the MagSafe is here, ill rather see a usb connection. Dongles will still be needed.
Did anyone notice noise in the video?
1:24 That SD card slot was outright stupid to remove. There's no replacing SD card slots in the industry, except for MAYBE CF (compact flash) card in some very-high end cameras, however, that would never fit in a laptop of this size, so that's fine.
This is just a review and you pointed out what other first-time reviews present.
You didn’t really talk about what issues you come across, any QC issues, or how it improved your workflow than its predecessor, etc etc.

wow that music sounded equally horrific in all the models.
Dude, as a mostly Apple reviewer you don't know about Bartender? it'll solve most of your menu bar icon issues...
The better one is the 2020 tbh i can do everything on it and no one requires as much power as the 2021
You might as well get the MacBook Air or go straight for the M1 Pro MacBook Pro; the M1 MacBook Pro feels like a transitionary product that will be phased out soon.
17:16 Never seen 1080p in that bad quality
I say that the new MacBook Pro 14 sounded better. Replying from the new MacBook Pro 14.
Nobody truly needs that many icons on their taskbar.
14in sounded richer
16:00 Tell me a Windows laptop that is similar in performance that's thinner than the new MacBooks or else I dare you to say that again. The MacBook Pros aren't supposed to be thin; they're supposed to be tools to make money for their users; those people care more about battery life and thermals rather than less than 0.5 pounds of weight...
Both the mic and sound are horrible on 14" 2021..!
You don't see the point of magsafe?? lol
Great Review. I think they should have added one high speed USB-A instead of MagSafe
Thanks Ben! Nice seeing you here!
They could have just added the USB-A instead of HDMI; I really like MagSafe, and I wouldn't be happy to see it gone again.
notch =. deal breaker
4:35: Who's that? 🤔
Hey Daniel, the scambots are all over your video again...
Oh yeah! I noticed :( Even if I ban them, they keep coming back
They are $2,000
The end
So like 1 summer side job?
You're videos look over-exaggerated. All the best
I love stevejobs I love apple 🍎 awesome
