So I asked of you can use it for a life size wig, and you can... just get ready to lose all your free time. I'm still working on the wig, and I started about a day after her previous sewn wig tutorial came out... a problem I ran into is that you can't sew the wefts into the cap while it is on your own head... I do have a head mannequin, but her head is smaller than mine, but I fix the problem rather quickly by adding extra fabric around the mannequin head. Overall it is looking good I can't wait t get it done thougb.
Thanks for commenting about this! I didn't consider needing a head mannequin the same size as your own head. Nice solution with the fabric. Hang in there and good luck!
I have put about 15 hours into it already and I am only about 3 spirals in... I am thinking about making another cap and seeing how it would work sewing it in with my machine to see if it would take less time, but I might have to update this later...
I used a marker on my cap to place the spiral, but I only made a Raggedy Ann wig so it hid pretty well and did not need as many spirals as a regular wig. but I was able to work on it just resting on my lap with that so.. I hope that's of some help to someone
Need a cosplay wig? Short on money? Have a crap-ton of extra yarn in the color of your character's hair? Prepared to loose all of your free time? Try making a wig!
My niece needed a wig for Halloween and we couldn't find any to fit her so I used your method to make one, it wasn't very good though but she loved it 👌🏻
I know this is from 3 years ago, but having just discovered you this is the first time I have seen this video. Thank you for being willing to show step-by-step how you create. Some artists are not as willing to share their knowledge with others and I so appreciate it.
I haven't made a wig completely from scratch, but I've spliced a few human wigs together! A helpful tip for hiding the wefts around the ears would to be sew in a weft on top going the opposite direction! So for this doll if you sewed the hair to this doll the hair ends would be sticking straight up to the sky at that point! Then you just have to boil wash the hair to make it go downward and it covers up the weft! I may not be explaining it correctly, but I know arda wigs here on RUclips has a tutorial on their video that teaches you how to make a part in a wig!
if sew the wefts upside down under the ears, that would fix this issue, I believe. the hair should lay down after boiling, and the edges should look nice. what do you think, will it work?
The process doll makers/upcyclers (is there a name?) go through for each tiny stage makes me appreciate the art so much more! Your dolls are all amazing :D
I made a doll wig with ear holes using this method for a doll I'm working on. I used acrylic yarn as the hair material. It worked rather well, though it is much thicker than synthetic hair options like nylon. That just means you don't need to sew on your wefts nearly as close together as you otherwise would. The wig turned out well; I'm hoping to finish the doll soon and put a video up on my channel.
While I haven't made a FULL human sized wig with this technique, I did use it to make wefts while repurposing a cheap long wig I got off Amazon into a short wig for a cosplay. I pretty much just chopped about half of the wig off and turned the ponytails I cut off into wefts that I sewed into a few thin areas of the wig. I didn't seal them with glue or anything, so they're a bit prone to shedding, but it worked really well for a last minute cosplay wig!
My cousin made a wig like this on a life size scale. Her friend had lost her hair from kimo, so she made her a purple wig; Her friend always wanted purple hair. She made many prototypes and the final wig was a short curly wig. It was beautiful and she uses it as a short-haired Yuri cosplay! (DDLC, she used for a cosplay in ComiCon New York 2016.)
For some reason I love watching you do this, I’m probably not going to make any of the stuff you do just because I suck at anything and everything I do
Another way to hide the stitches at the bottom of the ears could be to sew the weft on upside down. Then just brush them down, secure with a rubber band and boil wash. This should leave you with a nice edge since the hair is folded over :)You may have to make tinier wefts though because the line is diagonal and not straigt. I do this all the time when I make the part on the top of the head and I think it would work here as well >v
Oh wow! I recently made a yarn wig for a doll with cat ears. I sort of made a pattern out of napkins and tape and then made the wig cape, cutting out the holes too. You're method is soooo much easier XD
YOU CAN MAKE YARN WIGS LIFE SIZED LIKE THIS BECAUSE I SAW SOMEONE ELSE DO IT ON RUclips. I THINK HER NAME WAS KIND OF DERP. AND IM SOOOOOO HAPPY ( I'm making a lapis lazuli wig for cosplay and it's taking forever but I'm okay with that)
Super adorable. I never thought about the challenge ears would pose in making a wig. Also I highly approve of the cat clips at the ends of videos. It makes me smile :)
If you have fuzzy hair you can't fix with a normal brush, Use a not used dog brush and wet it it takes time (I didn't use boiling water tho so I don't know if this works if it does give this comment a like :D)
Thanks a lot! My new hujoo bjd finally arrived and she didn't come with a wig and that wouldn't be a problem if she didn't have ears! And there not magnets so I can't take them off so this helped a lot thank you! 😊
For the problem area under the ear could you not sew the weft from the inside of the wig cap and flip the weft over the area? that way all you see is hair and not the end of the weft? I think that could work.
Bought from CeladonGirl from this batch fav.me/da4383t Don't have a name for her yet, and I don't have her character figured out yet either. Suggestions? All I know is that she's an Monster High OC, she's undead, loves pastel goth and fairy kei fashion, and is kawaii/kowaii asf. She Is basically Marrow's constant companion. She follows Marrow everywhere and does whatever she says. She's is sorta Marrow's minion, but Marrrow gave her some free will so she'd actually be interesting to talk to and not some mindless zombie. She doesn't have a family of her own, and she stay with Marrows family.
One idea for the ear issue area you could try is to sew "wefs?" on the edge from the inside of the wig cap and pull the hair out to the right side from the ear hole. I theorise the hair would fold over the edge seam once boil washed making for a cleaner edge and easier to style hair. What do you think?
Some real human wigs are actually made with this method! Not handstitched though haha. I would know as I have one! Your last video with sewn wigs actually taught me a lot about parting these wigs, thank you! ♥️
My mom is a really good sewer and I asked her if this technique on a real wig would work and she said yes! But when we tried it it was too loose and it cept falling off!😕Fail! I love u so much and u inspired me to make my own custums!
It's basically impossible to reliably dye seran and nylon fibers. even with alcohol dying, like people do on cosplay wigs, the color just kinda rubs off. you gotta buy them in the color you want, or blend a few colors together.
Yes, you can permanently dye NYLON hair! You just have to make sure you purchase synthetic polymer dyes. You can get them at Michaels, I think--- the iDye Poly brand works great. You boil it in a pot and dip in the hair, and the color sticks instantly. Naturally, white nylon hair makes the best recipient. I'd love to make a video on it eventually, but for now I hope that helps. Good luck!
I made a wig for myself!Just don't use glue.You need longer synthetic hair\yarn\(other) and don't boil wash with wig on!More,longer,stronger lace!! #Bootiful
Another way you can hide the weft in front of the ear would be to sew it inside the wig cap and flip the hair through the hole and style it downwards. You'll cover the weft in front perfectly.
another option for the bald spot in the ears could be sewing a chunk of hair from the inside , passing it through the earhole and using the hot water straightening method so it looks neat
I made a life sized one for my friend with cancer I made it like your other one she loved it especially when she found out that she can curl it it was really long I'll post a pic soon
thank you so very much for your help on how to make a wig sense I don't have actual hair so I will use the yarn method my step dad is going to fix my sewing machine and other than that I have all the materials
I've used this method to my thin wig I've cut the half of my very long wig and used it as an additional wefts for the murdered bangs (murdered by the prev. owner)
In the future, you can also sew a small weft to the inside edge of the ear hole. It will stick up and out from the inside of the wig, but if you bend/fold it over and then do the boiling water thing, it'll cover up the edge of the ear hole.
A tip for the ears: either glue or sew the hair pieces from the inside the wig (not on the top like you do for the rest but from the inside). Then pass them through the hole, fold it so it land on the top of the other hair and boil wash on it to have them flip over. I hope you understood what I meant XD. It will cover the nasty sewing/glued part around the ears. it also help making the ear edge more strong :). hope it helps ^^.
Thank you for this. I’ve been wondering how to make a wig with those gosh darned huge ears I already added to my doll XD If it wasn’t for your (and others, but mostly your) videos, I may have never started customising (because it’s still kinda daunting before you start, like that first empty page of a sketchbook), thank you for your tutorials. :)
Yep, this is working if u wanna make a wig for human. I'm working with wig's for human's and also make some too, but never think it's can be used for doll's. Thanks for this video :)
I'm so excited! That looks so cute:3! Can't wait till you do her Faceup!!! Her little braids are precious!!!!!! Kitty:3!!! I love your little kitty videos at the end ^.^!!!!!! You're so talented!!!
i cant stop watching tgese videos :o i kind of want to get a doll from a charity shop and try this out but it seems like an expensive hobby if you want to do it right.
All of your wig vids have been so helpful I have many dolls that need hair and I have clients that want dolls and I need to give the dolls hair but I don't want to reroot because ever time I put one hair stand in I die a little on the inside
Um and also since I have all those clients and all those dolls that need hair I need to get a big shipment of hair but I don't know if on dolly hair.com I should get the Barbie half length of nylon hair or the longest I got the longest last time and got two colors of it and it goes all the way down almost to their feet but the way the picture represents it I'm afraid if I get the half it won't be enough
So I asked of you can use it for a life size wig, and you can... just get ready to lose all your free time. I'm still working on the wig, and I started about a day after her previous sewn wig tutorial came out... a problem I ran into is that you can't sew the wefts into the cap while it is on your own head... Helena Khudyna Of course! We're always learning from each other. Aww your poor bald dolls, hehehe
Dollightful xD ummm, they not completely bald, Moxie Teenz dolls have pixie cut painted on, but I like them in wigs much more! ^_^
Hey! Did you try this and did it work? I'm going to make my freya's wig this week and was thinking of doing the same thing!
I think Dollightful is a very creative person and I know all of her fans love and support her. Love you Dollightful!!!!

I was wondering could you make male dolls wig?? I think short styles are way more difficult to cut, and I though that you may have few tips :3
I'll keep it in mind! It's not a wig tutorial, but I did do a short hairstyle on my Frodo doll that might interest you for the time being.
My cousin made a wig like this on a life size scale. Her friend had lost her hair from kimo, so she made her a purple wig; Her friend always wanted purple hair. Oh wow!
I recently made a yarn wig for a doll with cat ears. I sort of made a pattern out of napkins and tape and then made the wig cape, cutting out the holes too. You're method is soooo much easier XD
Well, there can be many roads that lead to the same place! :D Your method sounds legit too.
I'm going to try this on a life size scale for one of my cosplays
I love how easy and understandable you make your how too! I can't wait to make my first Wig!
I really love your videos, it's just kinda relaxing to watch and really helpful.. If I would customize dolls.. someday.. =x ^^
Glad you think so! :D Hehe, you can start when the time is right ❤

I really get FF vibes from the music in this video. Also, very cute customization as always, Dollightful!

Some real human wigs are actually made with this method! Not handstitched though haha. I would know as I have one! Your last video with sewn wigs actually taught me a lot about parting these wigs, thank you! ♥️
How long do making a doll wig take to make?
KitKat Directioner upwards of a few weeks if you dont have premade hair a few days if you do though!
@@rebelcraftbunny4912 nah it takes like 60 minutes but if the doll heads bigger it can take a thew days

Another way you can hide the weft in front of the ear would be to sew it inside the wig cap and flip the hair through the hole and style it downwards. You'll cover the weft in front perfectly.
That would totally work!
It's similar to how you would make a ponytail wig. You sew the bottom weft inside the wig cap so it looks more natural.
are you korean????????
Ella S I believe so
Ella S no, she's American living in Korea
I love seeing your videos even if I don't customize dolls xD Keep up the amazing work!
Hehe thank you! ❤
I've already thought about making wigs for my dolls with my own hair... AM I WEIRD
Hanna - La chaîne d'une Plangonophile I think wigs started with ether horse or human hair but I may be wrong so don't take my word for fact.
Hanna - La chaîne d'une Plangonophile no. That's actually a pretty good and cool idea!
This is the way you make wigs for people, I did it when I studied costume and theatrical makeup
I've watched alot of wig tutorials I like yours the best way to go
You are so good at this! Although I personally don't customize often your videos are fun to watch!🐱🐼
gosh Freya looks so cute!

thank you so very much for your help on how to make a wig sense I don't have actual hair so I will use the yarn method my step dad is going to fix my sewing machine and other than that I have all the materials
I'm such a fan of you! I love your work and everything I wish some days I will be like you!
I've used this method to my thin wig
I've cut the half of my very long wig and used it as an additional wefts for the murdered bangs (murdered by the prev. owner)
In the future, you can also sew a small weft to the inside edge of the ear hole. It will stick up and out from the inside of the wig, but if you bend/fold it over and then do the boiling water thing, it'll cover up the edge of the ear hole.
i love the way u talk especially when u said u don't own a hair dryer XD
I have made a life size one and it went really well
A tip for the ears: either glue or sew the hair pieces from the inside the wig (not on the top like you do for the rest but from the inside). Then pass them through the hole, fold it so it land on the top of the other hair and boil wash on it to have them flip over. I hope you understood what I meant XD. It will cover the nasty sewing/glued part around the ears. it also help making the ear edge more strong :). hope it helps ^^.
Great tip! Thank you for commenting :D It sounds like a great solution for that problem area.
No problem. Glad you understood ^^. I was not sure how to explain :)

Yay!
i cant stop watching tgese videos :o i kind of want to get a doll from a charity shop and try this out but it seems like an expensive hobby if you want to do it right.
Yet again, Another amazing video, I really love how simple you make this seem!
Thank you very much Frowny!
All of your wig vids have been so helpful I have many dolls that need hair and I have clients that want dolls and I need to give the dolls hair but I don't want to reroot because ever time I put one hair stand in I die a little on the inside
Haha! Perhaps wigs are the right method for you, then. I'm glad my videos could be of help!
