I’m about to try doll customizing for myself for the first time, and I really wanted it to look good. Some advice that helped me was the “you gotta break a few eggs along the way” saying, and it reminded me of Nova. She’s a finished product that looks good, and had a history with a few cracked shells. Anyway, I’m excited about the Frankie custom I’m about to do, so wish me luck!

I don't customize dolls, but I'm a cosplayer, and I have the same problem: sometimes, I plan my costumes so much ahead, that I end up not doing them because I'm scared of encountering problems with it. somehow I like to rewatch your older customs, makes it more amazing to see how far you come in this short years she never was a 'bad doll' but seeing how much you struggled with her it would be nice to see how you would handle a theme like hers nowadays and fun fact a Supernova might be the death of a star but Stella Nova means 'New Star'
I feel like making her more curvy would’ve helped with making her maybe more mysterious and mature looking, also giving you more room for celestial designs on her skin.
Nova is actually one of my favorite dolls of hers. I love how much work she puts into her art. For me, it’s really hard to come back to failing projects. But I was really impressed and proud that she kept working on it.
She's gorgeous! To be honest, the original design was also pretty, but I agree that it didn't quite work and the new colours were so much better. I liked her very first outfit without the fringe though! For the new design, I feel like the stark black of the wings may look just a bit odd, but I can see what you mean by "missing something". While having her nude is a good decision, I feel like some very light clothing (like the first clothes I mentioned) or possibly body jewelry might give her the needed detail! Such as a rhinestone belt and anklets etc. Her hair could also maybe do with some detail, like a small braid or some accessories, but I don't know how fragile it is and the free and natural look is also great. Love your work here either way!
A belt and anklets would be a great idea, and idk how much of a hassle it would be, but if she could go over all the stars on her body with glow in the dark paint too that would be amazing to see with the lights off

This is still one of my favorite videos on this channel, to be honest. Usually, all the doll artists I see for inspiration create such beautiful projects, but we're all human, so seeing someone mess up is kind of a relief. We all do. I don't know if anyone thinks the same, but personally, I think plastic rhinestones often end up making a doll(or any project for that matter) look cheap. It depends on the project and overall look, of course, but Nova looks a lot better without any of that, not in the hair, not on the clothes
I agree. I am a beader and have become very spoiled using real crystals lol. But, you got to use whatever is available. Nova looks better without the red and less fake crystals. Love Dollightful!!
I love how you you showed that even very talented and professional artist mess up to it's important for people to understand that because even what RUclipsrs don't show doesn't mean that they never messed up cuz I used to always get frustrated when I would mess up a project and my mom would have to remind me before actually post the video.
I would love it, if the stars would be also glowing in the dark. I am not sure though, if the gow in the dark paint will be gloing enough with tiny dots. Watching this process of you trying over and checking your doll after a couple of days is great!! Sometimes the work needs some mistakes to end up being really awesome. I actually really like the paint on the first attempt, what was throwing me off is the head. Maybe another one with different sculpting(? Just me I guess.
The head looked a bit wide on the tiny monster high body. I think that was the problem. I really liked the original wig though. I think it would've looked nice on the new paint also.
I’d definitely add the same glow in the dark paint to the staff as well to show that it also contains magic. I love the comments saying some of the stars and constellations should glow as well. Overall I love her sooooo much and I hope you would have more videos on her, whether it’s for clothing or extra glow in the dark coats on her!
This doll really shows the struggle of an artist, you try so hard to make it work since you put so much time into it, but in the end sometimes it’s better to take a step back and try again. Im so happy she posted this video cause it really shows all the sides to making art

Came back to rewatch this video once again and I have to admit, this is still one of my favorite dolls you've made, both because the video is fun, and because it was one of the first ones I've seen on your channel.
The doll looked great to me a the end!!!! Although you did say something was missing....and I think that is was maybe because her hair isn't styled dramatically, which if it was, it might complement the dramatic galaxy goddess feel of the doll. Maybe if you tie the two front pieces back, tie them together, and curl the remaining hair? Or maybe you could add a fancy crown head thing on Nova! I probably am not going to help though lol, because I don't have experience customizing dolls lol.
I really admire you leaving your mistakes and problem solving in the video! I remember you doing something similar with your Mulan doll, and it’s really cool to watch you figure out and narrow down what looks most interesting.

The doll looks amazing and i am so glad that you didn't give up on making her, i think that the glow in the dark hair and eyes was a really nice touch i thinks the name Nova also is a good idea. I just can't really think of anything else to add to the doll but some kind of head dress, something like that would look super cute and mysterious
I really appreciate that you still posted this even if you werent that proud of the result. Its important to admit that mistakes happen, especially if you really want to improve. I dont remember who said it, but I've heard a quote '' An art piece is the result of thousand attempts'' because in the end when you are an artist, you are always just trying to make art, usually you don't just know how to do it.
I think this doll is one of my favourites, I love the way she turned out. I also love that this video was still posted - very reassuring to amateur artists like myself.
I actually really like her! But maybe what she's missing is jewellery and accessories? I know she's nude but simple fine chain details in either silver or black (or both!) would potentially bring her completely together? And if you used chain you'd still see the fabulous stars and marbling underneath? She definitely looks better without the red though. I think it was a bit too intense.
How about for your next stock box challenge you make a doll using the wig you made. It’s really cool looking and I would love to see a doll that compliments it better.
Honestly the video sends a important message to artist's. And it was interesting to watch. Respect that you pulled through 😊 And for the design: I personally would give her staff some colour and give her some kind of clothing. Something that shows of A lot of her skin. Most likely some kind of fantasy type armor (the type mages or healers have in fantasy games maybe elven like) which would complement her celestial goddess vibes
I love the authenticity of your mistakes, it shows this isn't just a "fun hobby" (as it might've begun), but can get really tedious and frustrating when working on these projects! The end result was totally worth all the struggle, obviously, she's gorgeous! 💖
Heyy, she looks amazing! Just a suggestion: maybe if you added more black to her design she would look a bit better. I think with a little black on her galaxy body would make the stars pop more and add a bit more darkness and mystery to her. Maybe by using a cottonball you can "stamp" some fading black spots on her. Her eyes and hair are looking super cool! 😍😍
I also agree, I think darkening her in some places will really complete the skin. Right now it's too.... out there? Like it's good but it completely lacks any shading in the upper part of the body, the lower one is amazing. Especially in the face, the big lavender part. Other than that, I think she did a great job.

I honestly think that her staff should be somewhat glow in the dark? Idk I just thought that a little more glow in the dark paint was what you were missing. (And maybe bigger wings instead of a cloak?) All in all, she turned out amazing, and this was a great experiment and good way to gather information for future dolls.
I agree and think the staff would look awesome if it glowed, but I think the cloak should stay. It would probably be nicer if it was a flowier satin material though.
Honestly, I feel that this video was 100% a step in the right direction. I felt that this time I was getting less of a tutorial and more of a full on creative process, similar to the "Eveelutions" series, but even less polished. I don't know if its just the way that I like to work creatively, but I like to show my mistakes and shifts in thought process even during execution. I'd love to see more tutorials in this style, because its less finalized and more organic.
You should add a bit to the doll, by which I mean, it looks super cool already, but making the stars and constellations on her body glow too would look really cool as well!

The head looked a bit wide on the tiny monster high body. I think that was the problem. I really liked the original wig though. I think it would've looked nice on the new paint also.

I’d definitely add the same glow in the dark paint to the staff as well to show that it also contains magic. I love the comments saying some of the stars and constellations should glow as well.

This doll really shows the struggle of an artist, you try so hard to make it work since you put so much time into it, but in the end sometimes it’s better to take a step back and try again. Im so happy she posted this video cause it really shows all the sides to making art

Came back to rewatch this video once again and I have to admit, this is still one of my favorite dolls you've made, both because the video is fun, and because it was one of the first ones I've seen on your channel.
The doll looked great to me a the end!!!! Although you did say something was missing....and I think that is was maybe because her hair isn't styled dramatically, which if it was, it might complement the dramatic galaxy goddess feel of the doll. Maybe if you tie the two front pieces back, tie them together, and curl the remaining hair? Or maybe you could add a fancy crown head thing on Nova! I probably am not going to help though lol, because I don't have experience customizing dolls lol.

Loads of people have said this already, but it's so so cool that you acknowledge and own your mistakes (and don't drag yourself too terribly about it). I'm really impressed at your perseverance with Nova and I'm glad you were able to make her work eventually. Thank you for your honesty about the creative process, imo it just makes you even cooler and more admirable as an artist

I just can't really think of anything else to add to the doll but some kind of head dress, something like that would look super cute and mysterious
I really appreciate that you still posted this even if you werent that proud of the result. Its important to admit that mistakes happen, especially if you really want to improve. I dont remember who said it, but I've heard a quote '' An art piece is the result of thousand attempts'' because in the end when you are an artist, you are always just trying to make art, usually you don't just know how to do it.
I think this doll is one of my favourites, I love the way she turned out. I also love that this video was still posted - very reassuring to amateur artists like myself.

I actually really like her! But maybe what she's missing is jewellery and accessories? I know she's nude but simple fine chain details in either silver or black (or both!) would potentially bring her completely together? And if you used chain you'd still see the fabulous stars and marbling underneath? She definitely looks better without the red though. I think it was a bit too intense.

I personally would give her staff some colour and give her some kind of clothing. Something that shows of A lot of her skin. Most likely some kind of fantasy type armor (the type mages or healers have in fantasy games maybe elven like) which would complement her celestial goddess vibes

I love the authenticity of your mistakes, it shows this isn't just a "fun hobby" (as it might've begun), but can get really tedious and frustrating when working on these projects! The end result was totally worth all the struggle, obviously, she's gorgeous! 💖

Heyy, she looks amazing! Just a suggestion: maybe if you added more black to her design she would look a bit better. I think with a little black on her galaxy body would make the stars pop more and add a bit more darkness and mystery to her. Maybe by using a cottonball you can "stamp" some fading black spots on her. Her eyes and hair are looking super cool! 😍😍
I also agree, I think darkening her in some places will really complete the skin. Right now it's too.... out there? Like it's good but it completely lacks any shading in the upper part of the body, the lower one is amazing. Especially in the face, the big lavender part. Other than that, I think she did a great job.

(And maybe bigger wings instead of a cloak?) All in all, she turned out amazing, and this was a great experiment and good way to gather information for future dolls.

Honestly, I feel that this video was 100% a step in the right direction. I felt that this time I was getting less of a tutorial and more of a full on creative process, similar to the "Eveelutions" series, but even less polished. I don't know if its just the way that I like to work creatively, but I like to show my mistakes and shifts in thought process even during execution. I'd love to see more tutorials in this style, because its less finalized and more organic.
You should add a bit to the doll, by which I mean, it looks super cool already, but making the stars and constellations on her body glow too would look really cool as well!
