My uterus is scared from a UFE I had in 2011 and the uterine lining is a little thick. Unable to path the uterine lining b/c it is scared and change in fibroids (going up). I have stage 2 bladder prolaspe, cervix has fallen and stage 1 rectual prolaspe. A lot going on at the same time. Urogyn said using my own tissue could result in prolaspe again. I'm 63 want to make a decision so I can go on with my life. I don't want this to come back to haunt me when I'm to old to deal with a surgery procedure I retire next year and have put in a lot of work and money to stay healthy only to have my insides falling apart unbeknowing to me. WHY DOCTORS DONT TALK ABOUT THIS TO WOMEN WHO ARE IN PERIMENOPAUSE AND MENOPAUSE. WOMEN GOING THROUGH THIS STAGE NEED DOCTORS THAT DEAL WITH PERIMENOPAUSE AND MENOPAUSE ONLY. NOT OBGYN WHO IN MY OPINION ONLY CARE ABOUT WOMEN WHO ARE HAVING BABIES. I'm having a hard time dealing with this. A lot going on at the same time. Thoughts please. Any doctors like you in the Chicago Area?
have the uterine lining evaluated if thick but if you have prolapse this is something that can be fixed now and can give you many years of success if done by a urogynecologist. Definitely ask your local gyn what specialist they refer to.
I hope my questions will help someone! Both dr.s said my prolapse is level 2. The one is recommending the sacrocolpopexy with hysterectomy. The 2nd I met again today is very opposed to mesh. He does not recommend now a hysterectomy - I misunderstood that - and says he would do a laparoscopic stitch suspension and the Ls Burch for bladder. Of course less seems better at the moment but I want it to be thorough and not have to repeat. Any thoughts?
Both are good procedures and I don’t think that you should be so worried about mesh that you don’t consider it. I did many mesh procedures over the years and had great success. Certainly the second doctor is the extreme being anti-mesh. You just need to go with what you feel is the better procedure for you. Which surgeon do you trust more? You want to do the procedure that they do well.
. this video is very good and my doctor recommends that third option . i will think about it . because it is absolutely impossible to live with my uterine prolapse which is literally hanging out . and i used to enjoy walking but no more . am 78 . my question is would stage 3 be too advanced for this surgery ?
No stage of surgery is too advanced to repair but the risk for recurrence is higher. If you feel comfortable then proceed. Ask what their rick for failure is over time.
Hi thanks so much for your useful videos - they are so clear. Question - I’m getting more information on what the doctor who doesn’t use mesh tomorrow. The other one recommend sacrocolpopexy . I have uterine bladder and rectal prolapse. I noticed that just in the past week I have been experiencing absolutely no bothersome symptoms. Almost like it all went away! I am thinking that’s not actually possible although I have been using the estrogen cream and doing pelvic floor exercises. Is it common for symptoms to come and go?
Do use of estrogen cream definitely increases blood flow and strength of the tissues. Pelvic floor exercises can strengthen things enough that they definitely can improve your symptoms but unfortunately, it’s typically for a short period of time and you may notice those symptoms coming back. It’s all depends upon the severity of your prolapse. Keep a watch on things and continue doing your pelvic floor exercises in vaginal estrogen. If it’s helping, keep doing it.
Fibroids typically do not turn into cancer but the uterus should be fully evaluated. I certainly have done surgery for prolapse keeping the uterus intact even though there were small fibroids after menopause.
Mesh for prolapse is only used now in incontinence slings and a sacralcolpopexy which is a mesh procedure done in the abdominal cavity and connects the upper vagina to the tailbone. Works well and is safe if done by very experienced urogynecologists.
If I understand correctly if multiple prolapse you should have uterus for repair. I have bladder/cervix and uterus has fallen and stage 1 rectocele So sounds like I should have uterus remove. You mentioned cancer being low, but not zero so at 63 I am not willing to take that chance because the older you get the chance of cancer goes up. What stage is severe cervix prolapse?
The stages vary from 1 to 4 where the uterus is completely out. Always a preference as to whether the uterus is removed. Doctors are just doing more repairs without hysterectomy now. Both can be strong repairs.

Should I hold on to a uterus with fibroids post UFE and atrophied? In what cases are surgeries not successful? Can fibroids lead to cancer?
Fibroids typically do not turn into cancer but the uterus should be fully evaluated. I certainly have done surgery for prolapse keeping the uterus intact even though there were small fibroids after menopause.
