    It’s not about a fish, it’s about death! He gets eaten by the worms and weird fishes.

      No it's about leaving your partner for someone else and the associated guilt. Listen again

      @@notmyname4261can we meet in the middle and agree it's about the death of a relationship?

      @notmyname4261 4 месяца назад +1

      @entHotdog Yes, because that's exactly what it is about, and also finding someone new to ease the guilt of leaving. "Eaten by the worms" is a metaphor for such guilt.

    The sound at the end here 6:55 is an EBow. It uses a pickup to induce string vibrations which eminate the sound of a bow on strings.
    What you are hearing with the different rythyms throughout the first section is Johnny Greenwood (the one that sits down and plays the keyboard midway through) playing an arpeggio in 3/8 and Ed O'Brien (backup vocals, EBow) playing an arpeggio at 5/8, while the drums are at a steady 4/4 pace. Basically this means that each of them resolve at different times and they weave in and out of each other rythmically. This also creates this feeling like you are floating since they just build more and more layers.

      @@flowersafterrainfall Actually, it's a Sustainer pickup in the neck pickup of Ed's guitar. He has used an Ebow, but around the time of the National Anthem, he needed something a bit different to match Jonny's Ondes Martenot. It's effectively a magnetic and pickup that keeps the string vibrating while it's engaged, so it doesn't need to be strummed. So it's kind of an Ebow, but kinda not. Mix with delay, fuzz, and compression on the lower E strings, and you've got that vibe. (Requisite Radiohead Gear Nerd).

    This band is so exceptional good to create a feeling or state of mind in their music.
    They take you on a musical journey.
    The best example is a song (how to disappear completely)
    Thom York is Singing about his mental struggles after a long album tour.
    I really can recommend a listening to that song.
    Keep up the great content.
    See you listening to it the first time and seeing your reaction.
    Is like I relive my own first listening.

    That was great. You are right, singing without words is special. And immersion is a must for me. If you wanted to see some serious immersion, treat yourself to Aurora, especially her older live performances (like the Runaway from Nobel Peace Prize Concert, for example). She used to be so immersed in her song, that when she finished, she looked around surprised that there were people around. :) She basically lived through the story of the song. So magical.

      @@flowersafterrainfallWell, I now not a bad nor mediocre song of hers. Her older stuff is more raw, whereas in the more recent music she experiments with various genres and has more happy songs (even a love song). She has intimate ballads, lush dancy songs and even some rougher pieces. And great covers. So I can recommend one based on your preferences, or you can start with the song I mentioned in my original post. It is a nice start to her world, recommended both by her fans here on youtube, and herself. Here is a link, for your convenience. Enjoy and stay great:

    Something I havnt really thought about with Thoms voice and his long crooning phrases. He sounds like he's influenced by those old-timey female lounge/jazz/soul/blues singers. Precision rhythm within all those dynamics etc. The vocal phrasing on Nude... I could imagine it as a Nina Simone song. Of course he's his own thing as well... a very unique musician imho.
