    LOVE the slow build in intensity and the layering of the guitars: the arpeggiated guitar parts. Arpeggio is playing chords one note at a time in sequence like they were all doing. Listen to it a few more times. And the whole album is a masterpiece, listening to all the songs together. Oh BTW, that's an Electro-Voice EV-20 mic he's using. Yours has a similar build, but not the same, correct? The EV-20 is a classic mic that's been around a while. Used more for voice work, especially for male voices, but it's a good vocal mic too. It definitely works for Thom and he uses one quite a bit.
    Radiohead's earlier work is a little more simple, especially their first album, so I always recommend to people to listen to their songs in order because they grow a lot as a band from album to album, especially between The Bends (#2) and Kid A (#4). Those three albums are so different and they expand their range and palette a tremendous amount during that period. I've listened to tons of music, have shelves full of albums and CD's, been to tons of concerts, and have a room full of instruments - these guys and Yes are tied for my favorite artists of all time. There's a lot of awesome bands and artists tied for second place, but these guys and Yes are the best, in my opinion.
    Thanks for listening and sharing. Like hearing your insights as a musician and drummer especially, since I'm more a guitar and keyboard player, so your view is a nice complement to what I get out of things.
    Peace from SF
    PS - If you really want to be impressed by their range and creativity, listen offline to "15 Step" off this album, In Rainbows, then listen to this performance they did at the Grammy awards where they did a wildly different arrangement that rocked the house (I think you would REALLY appreciate the drum work!)

      @@majorsev830 Jeff Buckley has a very distinctive voice and he gets props from me for covering a Genesis song off the "Lamb..." album, [fyi, "Back In N.Y.C"], he was a big fan of the band, as I recall, as well as Led Zeppelin. I won't argue about his voice being good, but Thom's is tops with me, lol!

    • @majorsev830
      @majorsev830 2 года назад +1

      @@cosmiccat6708 yep he covered it on sketches, his posthumous album.
      I'm a fan of both genesis and zep as well. I actually discovered Jeff through zep cos Jeff was apparently a big fan and was heavily influenced of led zep. The thing about him was that he was a great mimic. He had a great understanding of the human voice and he can imitate any vocal styles there is. I love listening to his live performances and live banters.
      There was one instance where he imitates Vedder and it was spot on!
      He probably had the most versatile voice in rock history.
      Vocal distortion, clean falsetto and head voice, well developed mixed voice, clean chest voice and he was able to glide through the ranges with ease.
      His work is a great study for singers and guitarists and songwriters alike.

Every song from this performance is amazing. Another good track to listen to is "Karma Police." Keep them coming! My first favorite musical act was Pink Floyd then I encountered SRV and he became everything to me. THEN, I finally heard Radiohead's 'magnus opus' album OK Computer and ever since - 1997 to now - they became and have stayed my favorite band on earth. Having followed your vids as you encountered Pink Floyd and Stevie, I just thought that might carry some weight for you with just how epic Radiohead is as a band and how deep and incredible their 9 album catalogue is.

      For some, Thom's voice is an acquired taste. It took me some time (not too long) to truly grasp the greatness of his voice. I actually had a little debate with someone in college, around the time this album came out, who was arguing with me that Thom's voice is classically great. I still disagree with him, but I don't think that makes his voice any less beautiful. His voice is unconventional and that makes it all the more interesting to me, though, as I stated before, I had to warm up to it at first.

Some of My favorite singers are the strange ones, it’s the songwriting that is brilliant and the chord progressions and use of scales by Jonny. RadioHead is amazing. Ever heard Elliot Smith? Brilliant songwriter not Whitney on vocals but perfect for his music. It’s funny perfect singers can’t perform those kinds of songs and sound right. They are written around the haunting voice
