Tool and Radiohead are the real legacy of early 90's music. They are the most creative and challenging to listen to; they make great albums, not just great singles, a rarity in the current musical climate. Thom Yorke, MJK, Mike Patton, and Chris Cornell are hands down the best male vocalists from the era. Pyramid Song songs almost like a Bond film opening number.
Agree, I feel RH is sometimes best watched, like the studio session, you get to see how intricate what seems like a basic song has so many layers, and what you thought was keyboard was a guitar!!
@@anthonypallen7919 Perhaps as an artist, Patton may be overrated (and I'm not sure I agree with you on that), but the fact that the guy holds the world record for male vocalists in terms of range is rather remarkable. You should see the stuff that Patton does outside of his bands. Trent is one of the eras great producers, and The Fragile is one of my top ten album all time, but he's not the singer on par with an MJK or Thom Yorke. It's like comparing Tu Pac and Dr. Dre; both are GOATs, but Dre will always be known more for his producing while Pac's legacy is his poetry.

This is my favorite Radiohead. It's crushingly beautiful and I get tears every time. It's like an out of body experience. The way the drums trip in is so unique and blah blah i could go in and on. ❤
This is sort of a strange introduction to the band as this is jumping into their most experimental era, but it's still a really great song. You'll likely get a lot of recs for stuff off OK Computer, Kid A, and maybe In Rainbows and A Moon Shaped Pool, but I actually think a really good starting place is the Hail to the Thief album. It's basically a blend of their more guitar-driven 90s sound with the electronic experimentalism they delved into at the turn of the century, so offers a look at the various sides of the band in what I suspect might be an appetite-whetting way.
As someone who was there when Radiohead started, but didn't get into them until later, I find it hard to justify starting out anywhere but _Pablo Honey._ They picked up where Pink Floyd left off and their catalog isn't just a collection of albums, but the evolution of a sonic lifeform and to pick up in it's young adulthood where it gets more complex is to miss out on the journey it took to get there. Sure, we can recommend _DSOTM_ as a start for its accessibility, but Floyd really needs to be listened to from it's early days--If not _Piper,_ then at least _Saucerful of Secrets_ to see the embryonic become a born creature.
@@Theomite but Pablo Honey is mostly sort of dull, me-too guitar rock and if someone isn't committed to further listening, they might be turned off. It has a couple of good songs but they started moving away from that sound almost immediately.
@@kagisomaila323 totally agree. It was one of their later albums that hooked me and then I went back through their discography and for sure you're 100% right they must have been so ahead of their time in the 90s
Love this band more than any other. Their sadness and brilliance are beyond anything done still to this day. This is a band I can almost guarantee you will never forget
I don't know why but both Tool and Radiohead resonates very deeply with me. Radiohead has a very wide range from from very grungy rock with Creep, over this eeryness you just experienced and onto broken electro beats with Idioteque. Personal recommendations though have to be "Exit Music (for a film)" That track brings tears to my eyes every time. If you's like to hear them go bonkers, "A National Anthem" is a must. That track has some of the craziest brass arrangement put into "pop" music
Same here, Radiohead and Tool are 1 and 1A for me. Radiohead, IMHO, is the greatest band of all time. I'm seriously jealous for anyone who hasn't heard their catalog yet. Polo, if you love moody music like you said here, this is your band.
Wow. What a song to start with. This is why you’re fast becoming my fave reactor. I predict within a few months you’ll be torturing yourself as to whether Tool or Radiohead are your favourite band. You don’t have to choose. But your fellow fans will get it. Next suggestion: “Just” from The Bends, “Let Down” from OK Computer, or “National Anthem” from Kid A.
Radiohead is unquestionably one of the most creative bands I've ever heard. They also do melancholy like no one else. My personal fave albums are The Bends and King of Limbs.
The Bends is really very under-appreciated. So much so that sometimes it surprises me. At the same time I kinda get it because from OK Computer onwards they're in such a different place. It sorta like they weren't really Radiohead yet.
To me, the master of melancholy will always be Camel. Try listening to the albums "Nude" and "Stationary Traveller", not least the title track from the latter album.
... Codex, Sail to the Moon, How to disappear, Pyramid song, Life in a Glasshouse, Planet Telex, Street Spirit, Idiotique, The national anthem, Nude, All I Need, Daydreaming
Considering Tool, Pink Floyd, and Radiohead are all in my top 5... pretty jealous you're getting to experience all of this for the first time. Gonna be a good year. When you get time you should watch the Radiohead - In Rainbows From the Basement recording.
Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead is a legit orchestral composer. This song is amazing in that they took a 'Doors'-style base - I get "The End" vibes - added the string arrangement, and then finished it with the experimental touches such as the relatively unique time signature. Several simple parts, but as a whole it creates a beautiful song. You'll notice this is a trademark of Radiohead...they aren't necessarily coming up with entirely new ideas, but they have a way of molding different ideas together to create songs that popular as well as underground music lovers can enjoy.
Sad eerie music, search for "living in a glasshouse" "nude" "how to dissapear completly" "exit music for a film", the song "nude" is one of my favorite song of all times, keep the good music polo, greetings from Mexico
I think they are to the early 21st century what the Beatles were to the middle-late 20th century. They both capture and express something essential to their respective times. The Beatles music was full of hope, love and absurdity. Radiohead is full of a sense of awe inspiring loss.
I am a lifelong Beatle maniac and only recently had to force myself to listen harder to radiohead because I wasn’t getting what everyone else was saying about how amazing they are. They are now right up there with the Beatles for me. I felt I’d wasted 25 years of my life not being a fan of Radiohead. They are amazing.

Oh gosh, Radiohead is an experience. So many beautiful and unusual songs. Try the song "Reckoner", it will either give you chills or make you cry; it is so very haunting. Another personal favorite is "How to Disappear Completely" from the album Kid A. Thom's ethereal voice and the sublime lyrics hit me in the gut every time.

Radiohead is my fav band. I’ve dreamt of meeting them in the studio. Pyramid song is my absolute fav some period. U broke it down very well. First time I heard it. I saw pyramids in my mind
I’ve been to 16 Radiohead concerts dating all the way back from 1997. I remember when they found their sound with Ok Computer, and being completely blown away with what I was hearing. This was my reaction for every album. Watching you react to them for the first time just brings back some fond memories. You need to listen to them constantly.
Came here for the tool reactions. Staying for Radiohead. Literally my two favorite bands. Radiohead catalog is massive, don't get discouraged by the occasional "weird tracks" Sometimes the hardest stuff to listen to at first will have the most staying power in the long run. Also the evolution of Radiohead over time is super important. Keep track of when tracks are released!
Ahh yes, Radiohead. These guys are amazing at what they do. Fake plastic trees, the bends, talk show host, everything in its right place, iron lung... Jeeze, they have so many good songs. Enjoy the ride my man
Radiohead. One of the elusive acts i anticipated seeing live on day...I karaoke their songs "high and dry" &" fake plastic trees" when i need to humble myself ...our need to see bewilderment 😊
If you've still never seen them, I'd make it a priority to. The dudes won't be touring much more, they say this regularly, and do solo stuff more and more. If its a few hour drive or flight, do it if you have the means. You won't regret it.
Getting back into Radiohead after a long time not listening to them; I had forgotten how deeply I used to lose myself in their music, this song was a fave. Don't know why I stopped listening to them I still have the CD of this album and another Radiohead album in my closet. Time to listen to them again! Btw The Killers were also a fave band of my son's, I actually had one of their songs played at his funeral in 2015 in a list of his fave songs. When You Were Young and Smile Like You Mean it still make me melancholy because they were the first 2 Killers songs he shared with me to get me liking the band too; I love both songs but Smile Like You Mean It really mirrors so many aspects of my son's life so it gets me emotional, especially the official music video.
hey Sharilyn, just as the Pyramid Song lyric said Nothing to Fear I saw your post about your son and re-read your comment. It's wonderful you have an insight into your son's music tastes and sharing something as emotional as most Radiohead and Killers tunes creates a raw feeling that can accept any emotion. I'm a parent too and cannot imagine the pain of your loss, I hope you find peace with your cherished memories ahead x
A wonderfully dark feel to this song. They’ve done loads of great songs like Creep, Karma Police, Paranoid Android and No Surprises. All incredible songs.
and most their best stuff came out since that stuff too! I mean In Rainbows is jam packed with 10/10 songs. Some reason a lot of people just jumped off of the bus after Ok Computer. That was only the beginning of their wild journey really.
Radiohead is my favorite band and one group I actually turned my Dad onto. Hes an old head and i grew up listening to his music but this was one group I showed to him that ive caught him listening to on his own, and this song he says is his favorite. Ive got "Nothing To Fear, Nothing To Doubt" tattooed on my inner arm. Love the reaction. Thanks dude.
Ha! Maybe their strangest song as an introduction. I'm in love with this song. Absolutely haunting and beautiful. Probably my favorite Radiohead tune. I find it virtually impossible to get the time signature.
And yeah, Amnesiac and Kid A were more electronic and jazz sounding than pervious work. But, you can tell by OK Computer that they were headed that way.
I'm digging that your first listen was this track as it is one of my favorites and has been since it's release. The track is evocative of it's title even without any clear reference to that ancient culture within it's lyrics. The melody is pure bliss from time immemorial. The piano accompaninent has an off-kilter quality to it at first but as the other instruments are layered into the song it's beat suddenly becomes so gratifying. For me, the climax comes with the introduction of full strings. If you want something...similar, check out Like Spinning Plates from the I Might Be Wrong Live Recordings release peeanna lover.
Thom Yorke (frontman of Radiohead) is a musical genius, but all of the other band members are insanely talented as well. I would definitely enjoy seeing you dig into some more Radiohead, they are one of the great rock bands of any era.
I still remember as a kid borrowing this from my older sister and listening to it on my CD player (mind you I had stuff like Sugar Ray) and when I first heard (specifically Pyramid Song) it changed me forever, the pace, the build, especially the lyrics (“Black Eyed Angel swan with me...”) haunted me, I envisioned a beautiful ghost in the water pulling you down (like a siren) It still even now freaks me out, getting to see you hear this for the first time, brought that feeling back to me, and as you said (me too then and now) “I got the chills”... seriously great stuff thanks for letting me relive my first listen, through you!
I absolutely LOVE how you realize that the piano part in the beginning is actually offbeat when the rest of the instruments and drums come in. Even if you don't consciously realize it or are aware of it, it radically changes the feel of the song. It's not just the song being fleshed out; there's some kind of tectonic shift that's difficult to put your finger on. I think this may be one of, if not my favorite Radiohead songs.
Where to start? depends on the day… Talk Show Host, Weird Fishes, Everything in Its right Place, Ideoteque, Jigsaw Falling Into Place, 15 Step, Airbag, Packed Like Sardines In A Crushed Tin Box
You're the first reactor that I see that starts with Pyramid Song and youre Feeling it. That bodes well. This track is masterfully constructed and very complex. Youre officially a radiohead
It is a sin to just now experience this so late in the game LOL! One of my all-time favorites and it is TIMELESS! There is nothing that dates their music or says anything about when it was made. Just a vibe, then, now, and forever
I highly recommend Daydreamung and especially if you listen to it watching the video to it its a trip in it's self i actually highly recommend listening to as much radio head ad possible.....they really do reinvent themselves in every album they create and make so many masterpieces
I love Radiohead. Tool has been my favorite band since before Ænima came out, but Radiohead is another of my favorites. Radiohead is the only concert that hit me equally as hard as a tool concert even though it was a completely different experience. They are fucking amazing live.
I've listened to thousands of albums I love and admire... many can be pretty unknown or underrated... but in all honesty Radiohead have made the best hit-rate of albums over any other band for me. Amazing such a well-known band went so far off the rails in their music experiments. In that sense they're a little like the Beatles. The weirdness or challenging aspect of their music pays off big-time in the long term. They're the gift that keeps giving once you "click". Of the 20 or so big bands from my youth... this is probably the only one I still listen to on the regular and it still sounds so fresh.
I saw many, many concerts in the 1990's. I was lucky enough to see Radiohead 6 times. Each time a new experience, as the band matured and morphed their sound. They are amazing, keep exploring. I will say OK Computer is a full experience, don't just pick tracks - the entire album flows. Kid - A is much the same. So just turn it on and kick back, and soak it in.
I am SO EXCITED for your journey into Radiohead! You will not be disappointed. I recommend checking out Like Spinning Plates, How to Disappear Completely, In Limbo, and Nude...to name a few
Absolute chills. I agree with those who say you GOTTA submerge yourself in their entire albums. It's almost directly linear, it seems like. Some radiohead faves of mine (besides this entire album )are "2+2=5" , "Everything in its right place" , "National Anthem" and "Morning Bells"..
If you liked this song, I highly recommend How to Disappear Completely. Radiohead has an unending list of great songs.

@@fridarey Thank you for your kind words, they are much appreciated.
Something about this song really speaks to me. Glad you enjoyed it too. Maybe try "Climbing Up the Walls," if you want another slow burner.
Ahhh. I see you have progressed from music into art. Well done.
Art, yes
Radiohead - "Fake Plastic Trees!"
I think you’ll find Tool, Radiohead, and Pink Floyd have largely overlapping fan base
4/4 defo
@@Milvus23 Seriously? Wow, I can't hear it. Where's the 1?
@@paxonearthit’s swung
I love this song but its an odd one to be introduced to Radiohead. They are right up there with Pink Floyd in terms of prestige.
Obsessed about this song for years, wish I could listen to it for the first time again
The greatest take on smoothness. Fucking killer of a song. Thank you.
Radiohead is a brilliant rabbit hole to get lost in. Have fun.
I got kid a on vinyl and had and awsome sound system in my living room. that was some other planet I visited man, it was unreal
Awesome seeing you react to Radiohead! Pyramid Song is a great introduction! How to Disappear Completely would be my next recommendation.
Thom Yorke (frontman of Radiohead) is a musical genius, but all of the other band members are insanely talented as well. I would definitely enjoy seeing you dig into some more Radiohead, they are one of the great rock bands of any era.
“There was nothing to fear, nothing to doubt”. Such a beautiful way to talk about that mental space.
Best. Band. EVER.
Youre officially a radiohead
if you love sad and beautiful songs you have to listen to Radiohead's "How to disappear completely" next!
This song is a perfect example of how an instrumentally and lyrically simple song can have a hugely profound effect on the listener
It feels beautifully mysterious
In the same way that each Tool song brings something new/different, you'll find the same for Radiohead. Enjoy the ride!
One of favourite songs. Doesn't get old.
Iconic Radiohead… Creep, Karma Police, Fade Out ( street Spirit). All of OK Computer. Thom York the singer is haunting and weird and perfect.
Take a listen to the OK Computer album.
Fake Plastic Trees is a great song from Radiohead as well.
The end to the song always gives me chills
The drums coming in at 4:05 gives me chills
My favourite Radiohead album and what a song, too! 😄
Always gives me goosebumps this track
How could live all these years without that song and how lucky you’re to discovered it now
you reacted the way you should, 10/10 like you said! These are great vids thanks!
One of the most chilling songs ever written.
If you love emotional feeling music then you want more Radiohead!
