      It's so sad, she would have been turning 20 this year, this sick predator took away her chance of living her life, getting a job, going to college, spending time with her family, all the things that my brother (who was born a year after her) is doing now. I really don't understand how someone could do that to a child, and then to go and try to do the same to her sister.

    “The trailer park was a very safe place, her mother wasn’t worried her neighbours would do anything" How? Half the neighbours seem to be predators? How does that even happen?

    • @ThatOneLadyOverHere

      Her mom only knew about the man that kissed her and he thought he wasn't doing any harm, which means he was trying to keep himself in check (as misguided as he was). Basically she probably didn't see him as a threat. I bet she also actually trusted the murderer herself. Someone else suggested maybe the woman was trafficking the children in the park to the other pedophiles, which would explain the weird things she did and how she could tell the police who all of the pedos were. There were red flags everywhere, but my guess is that no individual in the park had enough info to realize they were red flags, while we can see the whole picture and are more paranoid because we watch videos like this.
      I'd say I wouldn't do it, but I also can't trust my kids alone in our fenced backyard. I wouldn't let my kids run around the trailer park alone because I don't trust them, can't speak for what I'd do if I did, so I can't judge her.

      I subscribe to a background checking service and you wouldn't believe the number of sex offenders. There's 22 in my area but that's actually a really low amount compared to some other places. I looked up a friend and she has 58 sex offenders in her area. They're literally everywhere! 99% of them were men who committed r@pe or sex crimes against a child or disabled person but there were several on there for lesser offenses such as exposing themselves. This case was shocking because women don't normally commit violent sexual crimes. Not saying they don't, but it's unusual.

      It's possible she would have eventually gotten around to killing her daughter when she was "satisfied" with killing other children. Sometimes serial killers will kill many similar victims before getting around to the actual target they wanted the whole time. Working up to it, in a way. I remember one time it happening with a guy that wanted to kill his mom but before he got around to it, he killed a bunch of women who looked just like her. Sandra might have been the first victim in what she was planning to be many many more.

      Psych degree here 🤓 I absolutely agree that society needs to be more aware of the fact it isn’t just men who are predators, however… I don’t believe she was actually a true paedophile 🤔 Women usually abuse children for different reasons than men (of course there are exceptions but psychologically speaking, it’s different).
      In Melissa’s case, there’s actually a pretty strong reason to believe she was simply trying to make it look like the killer was a man (because as I say, it’s not common for women to be sexual abusers like this) 🤔 The reason for this viewpoint: she has - unofficially diagnosed - Munchausen by Proxy Syndrome. Her own child has a history of being mysteriously sick and being hospitalised, a bit too often 🤔 It’s widely accepted by professionals that she was making her kid sick and using it for attention. People from her life prior to arrest said the same thing - she made everything about her. She’d cause a scene, start having loud arguments for no reason etc. 🤔
      It’s very likely the “usual” forms of getting attention weren’t giving her the high she needed anymore. If the doctors flagged up too many hospitalisations and mentioned this to her she would have changed tack. Being the centre of attention in a child murder, the tv interviews, the local attention - that’s a big draw for her 🤔 As I say, the rolling pin part was to make it appear as though the killer was a man, so she wouldn’t be considered a suspect (in her own dumb af mind 🙄😂).
      So yeah: I completely agree people need to be more aware and therefore more cautious, but in this particular case I think the sexual part of the case was a means to an end (and was probably why she drugged her 😔 - to Melissa, it was just part of the process rather than getting any gratification out of it, so she didn’t want Sandra awake for it).

    • @VOMITQUEEN
      @VOMITQUEEN 11 месяцев назад +4

      The frightening thing is that if she wasn’t such an attention seeker and didn’t incriminate herself so easily, she wouldn’t have been caught. Hi, there’s a case I think you should cover because it’s starting to gain traction again as it’s been cold for 36 years! A few days ago I was in Newport, Oregon for my moms birthday and as we were walking down the bay front shops, we saw these posters every 10-20 feet that had a woman’s face and a title that said “Murdered 36 Years ago Kelly Disney”. This was the first time I’d seen these posters in Newport and I’d never heard of the case before and I just now looked into it and I really really think you should cover it. Kelly Disney was a 17 year old girl who grew up in Siletz, Oregon and was dating a 20 year old named Robert Ellis. The last time she was seen was at 1am on March 9th, 1984 on Highway 20. 10 years later on Monday July 25, 1994, a man walked into the Newport Police Department with a human skull he’d found behind the Big Creek Reservoir while riding through on his ATV. Dental records found that it was Kelly Disney’s skull and it had evidence of head injuries. They’ve talked with her boyfriend but they haven’t been able to really find anything good to say it was him or that he had any involvement. Please please talk about this case. It’s unsolved but important considering she’s not the only girl to have gone missing and turned up dead in Newport.

    Sandra’s case was really an eye opener for the community because up until then, no one really thought about the dangers women could also bring onto our children. I’m from Lathrop, about 10 minutes away from Tracy, and I remember how shocked everyone was when they found out the Sunday school teacher did it. It really had people realizing you can’t trust anyone just because they’re a woman or man. We were around the same age when Sandra went missing, and it continues to break my heart knowing this innocent girl had to die for people to start doing something about the way we see child offenders. I was too young to understand everything back then, but now knowing Huckaby had a history of mental illness and had also drugged people in her past while still being allowed to teach children, there could have been so much more done to have this tragedy prevented.

    Something that I think separates Eleanor's videos from other true crime channels, is the way in which she delivers them. There's no eerie music or dramatic sound effects (or clickbaity photoshopped images for that matter); she has full respect for the victims and their families. I especially like how she will say something about what the victim was like or what they enjoyed (like how Sandra Cantu enjoyed colouring etc.) Instead of just going into gory details. I think so many other channels need to take a leaf out of Eleanor's book, she never fails to keep the videos interesting, engaging but also respectful ♥

    • @ThatOneLadyOverHere
      @ThatOneLadyOverHere 3 года назад +26

      Yes! I also like it because it doesn't feel creepy. I've always found stories like this interesting, but they are always presented in a way that brings a weird feeling into your life. She does this for education, to respect the victims, to learn about the killers, to learn about how to stay safe. It's not just entertainment, it's education.
      Controversial theories also need to take a page out of this book. Everything is always given that weird spin and music and it's just cringey! Just give me the info, respect me! I want to see different perspectives, not just the ones taught in school. I want an open mind. But presenting it the way it is undermines the credibility of any non main stream theory.

As you said, her daughter would play with Sandra but Melissa didn’t like this and would be jealous that her daughter was spending time with someone else. The first girl that Melissa drugged was her doing a test to see how much of a dose would be needed. When it came to her daughter playing with someone and spending time with someone other than herself, due to her mental health problems she didn’t see it like we would. It just made her jealous and angry. The reasons she sexually assaulted Sandra was to make it look like it had been done by a man so to put the police on the wrong path.
