I went to school with April. We had German class together and she sat next to me. I saw the ambulance on the trail when coming home the night she was found. To the helicopters and police teams searching the streets that night. This tragedy shocked our small town. It’s absolutely devastating and years later still haunts me, and our community. She didn’t deserve this, she was such a bright, happy, wonderful girl.

I agree a thousand times! I encountered a situation on a train a few years ago. I am a mother of 5 and I would hope someone would look out for one of my kids in a tough situation.
There was a young girl, maybe 14, sitting a few seats away from me. Nearby there was an obviously grown man who kept talking to her, he had even moved from his seat to hover by her. We were the only people in that car. I watched her body language for a few minutes and realized she was incredibly uncomfortable. I know when I was that you I wasn't really able to speak up for myself. Anyway, after him telling her she smelled nice 🤮 and asking what perfume she was wearing I spoke up. I asked him why he was harassing a little girl when she obviously wasn't enjoying his attention. He immediately got defensive. He actually threatened to have his girlfriend kick my ass when we got to his stop. I asked him if his girlfriend minded him preying on little girls? I told him he was welcome to bring it on. Eventually he got off. The girl didn't say much and, honestly, I imagine she was just really uncomfortable.
My daughter (23 years old) and her boyfriend had to pull over late at night not too long ago and help a woman getting beat by a man on the side of the road. I absolutely refuse to live my life doing nothing if I am able to help.

I agree! I recently came across a very young mother with a baby being yelled at and screamed at, in public with no else around but me though, by who I can only assume is/was a partner of hers. She was tiny and he was so tall and also built quite large, so fir this I worried he would easily be able to harm her if he wanted to. I kept my distance but watched to feel out the situation for a couple of minutes, while he proceeded to yell at her and talk down to her so badly. I finally built up the courage to walk up to them. I intentionally came from his back side and facing her. I probably looked like a lunatic, but I was locking eyes with her and winking sooooo much and just hoping that she would catch on. I then proceeded to pretend to know her and I was like 'hey girl!!!" and walked right up to her and hugged her and whispered in her ear "If you're safe I will leave but if you're in danger squeeze me right now." She said "I'm ok girl! It was sooo good to see you again!" I did walk away, and I hope to goodness that she and the child are ok, but I would have not been able to sleep that night had I not at least tried to make sure she was ok. Had she needed/wanted help, I am so glad that I did that, but I didn't want to force her or make the situation worse for her.

Actually, rare is the dog that is willing to take on a creature bigger than them. All dogs may be capable of biting but it's purely defense only when no other option is available. They'll bite then run usually. Even when you get a dog bred for defense from a long line, only a 1 or a couple from the little will come out with the fortitude to do such and then they need training to boot most of the time. However, dogs are very loyal. Whether or not Penny tried to defend, we'll never know but regardless, she stayed close enough for her to be found and that is still huge. She was certainly affected by the encounter and a hero for trying.

It is sad that such horrific things happen in this world & we have to expose our children to it.
However we have to teach them to be safe as early & as often as possible.
They need to know to stay away from strangers no matter what they offer or promise.
How to scream, yell, run away & get peoples attention if they are in trouble.
How to call 911, thier address& phone number as soon as they can learn it.
To tell an adult if someone is hurting or touching you, even if they threaten you.
It's so important to educate children to be safe & be prepared in bad situations.
We had a "password" that would change frequently when mine was little.
If someone wants you to go with them but they don't know the password then you don't go!
Nor do you listen to that person. Even if you know them or have seen them with me before.
Its scary to think about and hard to do but it is so worth it.

April Millsap lived one town over from me, the trail she was walking on when she was killed ran through my neighborhood. My younger brother walked that trail every single day and my mom wouldn’t even let him go near it after that until the guy was caught.
Never in my 26 years have we ever seen a cold blooded murder like that anywhere near our little county, the surrounding towns were completely shocked.
People were horrified to go anywhere, especially the women because it was clear that he was attempting to sexually assault her by the way she was found.
The guy wasn’t caught for a while afterwards and unfortunately the trails were completely empty for months.
Every house in my neighborhood had pink ribbons around their mailboxes to support April and her family because her mom said it was April’s favorite color.
My mom still has her pink ribbon up on her tree to this day and I don’t think she’ll ever take it down.
It’s truly awful what happened to her. She must have been so scared, makes me sick anyone would do that. I still feel so badly for her poor, sweet dog, Penny. She witnessed the whole thing and stuck by her side until she was found. That baby had to be traumatized.
I have tears in my eyes just thinking about this case. It was really rough to see all of it unfold, I cannot imagine how her family feels. My heart goes out to them and Penny.

Yeah, I live in a village near Armada, I remember even though she wasn't from here we still had lots of pink ribbons along Main Street and lots of people also had them on trees in their yard. I think this case rocked the whole northern Macomb and southern Lapeer County area to its core since we never could imagine something like that happening here. These small towns are the kind of places where forgetting to lock your doors every now and then is no big deal, where you can keep your car running outside without worrying it'll get stolen while you run into café to grab a cup of coffee, and where the busiest days for your local cops are performing traffic control duties for the occasional parade or providing a little bit of a security detail for the main attractions at one of the big annual festivals. Nobody in this area thinks violent and horrific crimes like this one would ever happen here which is why I think even though April was from Armada, you saw people from all over like Almont, Romeo, Bruce Township, Ray Township, Richmond, and all those other areas inbetween wanting to support her family and for them to get the justice that sweet girl deserved. But oh my God, I didn't know the detail about Penny until now and the pain that sweet girl must've felt losing her best friend despite doing everything she could to get her help just doubled the amount of heartbreak for me! I gotta imagine she's gone over the rainbow bridge by now, but I'm sure she's there with April enjoying all the long hikes, treats, and loving she could ever want 💖

@@itsmeseanie5763 yeah I’m from Richmond and lived there when this all happened and everyone was supportive of her family. Nobody could even fathom why this poor girl was killed so brutally.
I live in Bruce now and I never see the pink ribbons here but in Richmond there are still quite a few houses with them up, including my mom. My mom took it to heart and I don’t think she’ll ever let it go.
Literally nothing ever happens in any of these towns. Still so shocking. That and the case from a few years back with Stephen Mcafee being murdered were the biggest things that have happened around here. Stephens body was found two football fields away from my house and it disgusts me to think that we heard the gunshot that killed him that night but probably thought it was a hunter because gunshots are going off all day every day around my house. I hope Andrew Fiacco burns in hell for what he did to that poor boy.

I swear I think all the time about how lucky I am I didn’t die for the bad decisions I made. Running off with random people I had met only hours before even going to their houses without telling anyone, walking alone at night with zero protection and no one knowing I had left the house, getting drunk at bars without anyone to be there with me to make sure I made it home safe. I look back and genuinely wonder how I’m here

Exactly! And it makes me feel like a hypocrite telling my son he cant do things that i myself would do when i was young. But our area is way different now. Theres meth and heroin addicts everywhere here now. And you never know what one of them would do when they are methed out of their minds and haven't slept for a week.

The dog's fear and sadness just ripped me emotionally. I am certain Penny did all she could to save April. And ultimately her loyalty even after death. Dogs can teach humans so much.

My father used to live there when he was alive. He also was in the town during her case. Once I was talking to him about my interest in listening to true crime stories and he told me about this one. There is so much he didn't know..

That makes me sick the fact no women of any age can’t even go out for a for a walk because anything can happen to them in a second it makes me sick how men cant just take a “No” without forcing it and being abusive it’s so messed up especially how she was 14 I don’t even go walking around my neighborhood being the same age it terrifys me

@Aya M there isn't less crime, it's just easier to marry women off and hide crimes inside the home, with neighbours, family or close friends justifying the crime. The solution is not to constrain women's freedom more, but to get more men in jail, take victims seriously and give longer sentences to keep predatory men away from any potential victims. Even in Saudi Arabia where women can barely go anywhere alone there is crime, it's just hidden in homes.

@Aya M That's bullshit, it's just reported more in the "western" world. I bet they don't even have marital rape laws, so if their husband rapes them they can't even come forward because it's not illegal. Not to mention the stigma of raped women being shameful...

@Aya M have fun living your life close minded and within your own personal conservative echo chamber. You didn't even consider the other people's perspectives who responded to you huh? Us dirty Western girls will gladly be staying far FAR away from the middle east and burkas thank you very much, you can have all the "decent" women, hidden away and oppressed in the house all day, to yourself while we freely marry/date who we want and live our lives outside in what we want to wear.
You don't think we have our own precautions for avoiding dangerous men? I've gone to multiple cities around the world as a young girl outside, to bars/clubs/etc. and I'm still alive and relatively okay, it can be done. Staying in large groups, not staying out too late, staying in neighborhoods you're familiar with, carrying pepper spray. I was the most fucked up by men who I let into my personal life if anything. Just like in wherever you're from, we have precautions as well, but ofc none are full proof, including yours, as one responder said there's plenty of household crimes that go unreported in conservative countries. And at the cost of any personal freedom for women? Is that realllly servicing the women and their quality of life there? More like keeping women under control, but sure, it's just for their "safety", whatever lets you sleep at night.

@Aya M lmao please your "crimes" include being gay, educated (as a woman), even DRIVING as a woman till recently in Saudi Arabia. But also sometimes they DON'T including RAPING WOMEN. Get the fuck out with your brainwashed propaganda.
I understand you weren't encouraged to think for yourself because women doing that is scary for men, but LISTEN TO OTHER WOMEN. Stop listening to men or what men tell other women to think/speak!!

    • @Equinyx666
      @Equinyx666 3 года назад +15

@Aya M i am also NOT a man, so don't fucking call me that LOL. Men will not tell me what to wear. Nobody has any power over how I live my own life.
And how about men start telling other men not to rape women, instead of blaming the women that get raped :^)
Imagine typing your bs under a video about a 14 year old girl being murdered, by the way. Real classy and nice of you.
