  • I bought this cattleya during a frenzy, not knowing much about its care. This bag baby was the healthiest of the ones I purchased last summer, 2023. I only knew of the slatted orchid pots I use for Phals, so I repotted it into one of those. It did well, grew new roots, and finished a new growth. Because it currently had a new growth and I wanted it in terracotta, I repotted it. Keep in mind I am a rookie with orchids other than Phals. I grow mostly outside in the warmer months and move everything in during the fall and winter. I managed to keep most of these orchids alive this past winter, so I am hopeful that streak will continue.
I hope you enjoy the video. Like and subscribe.

Thank you! Today I noticed a sheath coming from the new growth. No buds but hopeful. I guess it’s happy. I am amazed at how fast they will surprise me and how long it takes to get there! LOL!

If i had the opportunity to buy bag babies, I would go nuts 😅 not seedlings, not blooming size. Best of both worlds 👍🏼 Happy Growing 🎉

Fantastic!! I think terracotta pots and Cattleyas are the perfect match (especially when she’s in bloom and doesn’t fall over 🙌🏾) Very nice video, thanks for sharing 😁

I'm using the same pots and I hate when the roots grow out the ventilation slits! 😤
I have three orchids that are potted directly into terracotta right now so only time will time to see how the roots did when it's time to unpot it. Since the roots can stick to the sides, something like a butter knife is recommended.
In Connecticut, humidity can be pretty high at times so I mostly use bark, but I have one noID phal that is in half leca, half bark in a plastic container (from Lowe's) with a lot of ventilation.

When I first started last year I thought I had to pot all orchids in the plastic slotted pots. Now I know better and do hope they thrive. I have been switching to all inorganic media for my Catt and Dendrobiums but haven't made the leap for my Phals yet. Thank you again for taking the time to watch my videos. I hope you are having a great day!

I most certainly will! I doubt it will produce any buds but these plants do surprise me all the time.

Kyle, it looks like you potted it just fine the first time. I don't use terracotta because the roots want to stick to the sides of the pot when you need to repot them. I always use plastic pots. Whatever you did with that orchid, it looks fantastic! It has good looking new roots and hardly any dead roots at all, that's impressive.

Thank you! I hope that I won't regret terracotta in the future. All my Catts are now in terracotta. I am going with orchid faith and what I've seen more experienced growers have done. Thanks for watching!
