I got a lovely orchid (a Phalaenopsis) as a welcome gift to my new job about two years ago. While I smiled--the thought was sweet and the double flower spike beautiful--my heart sank. I've always been afraid of orchids, thinking they were difficult to grow. The dire condition of my once-lovely orchid drove me to see if I could save the plant from death. Thank you for your calm, step-by-step instructions. Everything I saw in your vid--waterlogged medium, pot with one small drainage hole, nasty, dying roots--I see in my poor, long-suffering orchid. I ordered a pot and medium--I think I can save my orchid!
Good luck, No need to be afraid of them. They are hardy and resilient. The 3 things that will kill them is sitting in water, direct sunlight and low temps.
I just did this today...lol. I poured boiling water over the spagnum moss in the orchid my sister got at least a year ago that looked about as bad as the one in this video.
Hi, my name is Angie from eastern North Carolina but live in Colorado now. When I moved here last April, there were already 2 orchids. I have Never taken care of orchids. I now have 6 all together. The oldest one is now grown a branch, I think that's what you call it. It also has Many roots(again, I call them fingers). It has bloomed for me twice. The other one has also bloomed twice, and is the smallest one. They all have many fingers coming from them. I am now learning to repot them. Looking for different channels to teach me how. I also take a warm damp paper towel and keep the leaves clean, and while doing this I'll talk with them to let them know what I'm doing. I have Always talked to plants. It is Very calming, and I have been told that plants loved to be talked to. I am happy to have found your video on orchids and repotting them. Thank you So much for sharing this vital information. Hope you and everyone has a Safe, Blessed and Wonderful day ❤️🤗🍃🪴🌿🪴🍃🤗❤️
Love your channel and your clear and concise teachings on how to revitalize moribund orchids. Thank you for helping those of us who have orchids in a state of decline showing how in a few simple steps these beautiful and exotic plants can be brought back to life. Once again, thank you for your great videos !
This is so incredibly informative and I am so glad to have found this video. My Mom died in October and she loved orchids. I am trying to save two that were given to her as gifts while she was in the hospital.
This was SO helpful. Wish I saw this sooner. On the birth of my first grandchild a few months ago, I bought a miniature orchid from the supermarket garden center for her and tried to pour my love into it while she was in NICU. This beautiful, elegant, delicate plant that I love, but had no idea how to care for, was to be a symbolic momentum. I was so sad that it died when I thought I was doing all the right things to find out now they are sold in cute containers designed to suffocate and drown them. So glad I found your channel because hopefully this new one I purchased less than a week ago will thrive. Thanks! Great video!
I'm so proud of you to save these beautiful orchids. Great idea. I'm going to start asking my local grocery stores which now carry an abundance of them. Phalenopsis require lots of humidity & proper m medium , bark, to grow in. Question:. I rescued a stag horn fern which needs a bark medium, currently it was bought in a potting soil. It is growing new leaves. How do I divide, has approx 4 separate plants, all in 1 small pot. Resqued from WalMart. I have grown 1 very small on into a giant one. That was in Santa Barbara, CA. Their they can growl outside. Now I'm in a apt in ID. Long winters, very cold.
Thank you so much for this informative and loving plant video. I'm trying to bring my sister's orchid back bc she was in hospital and it did not get tended to. She passed...trying to hang onto this plant that she cherished. God bless you.
So sorry to hear about your sister. What condition is the plant in? Shoot me a message on Instagram at instagram.com/blkorchidproject?igsh=ZDhraTViYnZrdXhx Maybe I can give you a direct solution.
As an old packaging engineer I should mention that packaging companies that produce expanded polystyrene packaging EPS (peanuts) are developing biodegradable types which melt into a gooey degradable mess when water first hits them... a good thing most of the time, but a terrible thing if you have used them in orchid pots. So far these are usually identified as green in color, but no guarantee all EPS packaging companies will add this coloring.
Thank you so much,my mini orchid was dying and I almost threw it away.I’m so glad I found you ,your directions were concise and easy to understand. My orchid is now a rescue!
I use to have a good deal going on at a local Lowes. I got to talking with the nursery supervisor about damaged and stressed plants and ended up for almost 2 yrs of going once a month and filling sometimes 2 buggies full of orchids, cactus, and lots of other plants.I loved it till all good things have to end !
Omg thanks for the idea. I've seen several rescue videos already but I hadn't thought of doing it myself (hopefully for free) with my local store. Thanks will ask today 😊
Thank you Randy for this video, I clean houses for a living & see so many orchids dying, all as you said in a fancy pot, with no air or holes in the bottom for drainage causing water log. One of my customers asked me to put an dying orchid in the bin & i asked whether i could take it home to try & revive it. Some of the roots are still healthy but it has no leaves, i have been watering it, has drainage, cleared all the dead from top & put in a sunny position. After watching this video i will take out of pot & clear any dead roots inside & do everything you have shown here, thanks so much for sharing your knowledge
Debbie, yeah it kills me... I will tend to ask people about their plants if I see them on desk and such. So there is good news and bad news about that plant. If it indeed has no leaves it's going to be a task to get it going again..... Leave grow from the base of other leaves. That said, there is a chance that it will start a new plant at the base by the roots. If you don't mind caring for it doesn't hurt to try. I just don't want you to be disappointed if nothing happens. Good luck. FYI I moved my orchid content to a dedicated channel if you want to follow along The Black Orchid Project ruclips.net/channel/UC0Vek_K6UlhF5eyJlhOCHlQ
You have a great way of demonstrating how to save and repot orchids! Love your relaxed and informative style. I’ve been doing it this way for 10+ years with tremendous success. I love buying sick orchids and resurrecting them, the only problem is I now have way too many but I can’t imagine parting with any. I sterilize my bark by leaving it spread out in direct sunlight for a week and the UV light kills all the organisms. I totally agree with soak watering, top watering should be avoided. I usually dissolve my orchid food in the water a day before I am due to water them. A tip I received from an expert grower is to water your orchids with slightly tepid, purified water. This has made a big difference for my plants. As mentioned in the video, excellent drainage is imperative for success. By following this video you will find that orchids are not difficult to keep and are very rewarding indeed.
Hey Greg, Thanks for stopping by and adding some useful info. You can definitely end up with too many. You should try fostering them out. People are really appreciative and there's not much they can do to damage them during bloom cycle. Have great day,
how often do they bloom? i bought a discounted one for valentines day. Walmart was gonna throw it out, and the flower fell off but now its just 3 giant leaves and no signs of anything. so do they rarely bloom or do i need to do anything to help it?
Rosie Villarreal Adame I don’t know anything about orchids but I just watched videos on how to care for it and I don’t do anything special to it and it blooms twice a year about 8 or 9 flowers on a spike I wish I could tell my secrets but I don’t have any good luck and research on caring for your orchid
Mine is a rescue as well, the plant was still in it’s container and shop wrap with price tag, someone dumped it into our bin outside our house waiting to be emptied the next day! So I repotted it and going to see if I can save it.
Hey Patricia, Thanks for stopping by. Not sure I have a PHD in plants. More like an BA in phals…. 🤣 check out the Black Orchid Project Instagram. Lots more stuff there. ✌🏾
Thank you so much for this carefully detailed video! When I was caring for my father-in-law at the end of his life, he was gifted a lovely phan orchid, and I enjoyed keeping it properly watered, propped and trimmed, according to the instruction card. I was so happy when it bloomed again. After my father-in-law passed away, his orchid sat alone and unattended for awhile, until we went up to clean, and I brought it home with me, to rescue it. It's not doing as well at my house. It got a little dry, and developed a shallow split in the largest leaf. I'm working on it. I want to help it thrive and live a long time, because it's a lovely reminder of my FIL, and I loved him. I'm going to watch the rest of your videos and see if I can learn how to give it a good long life. Thank you again for your help. This was just what I needed. Kind regards. 🙏🏻💙
Thank you for sharing your story... The sentimental ones are the best. The new flower always brings back a memory. Don't worry must about the split, it happens. Once you see a new root or new leaf. Get it re-potted into a nice pot and let it be. Mist it when you think about it. FYI I've moved my orchid content to a new channel if you want to follow along.. Thanks for stopping by!!!! @UC0Vek_K6UlhF5eyJlhOCHlQ/
I have never had any success keeping orchids. Bought one in memory of my father about two years ago and it has bloomed twice since which is remarkable. I, too, want to keep it flourishing in memory of my dad.
@@gwenreader6631 sorry for the delay. Follow over on The Black Orchid Project ruclips.net/channel/UC0Vek_K6UlhF5eyJlhOCHlQ Lots more information there.
Watch the videos about 100 orchids from 1 etc. you can get more orchids from that one that will be identical & so you will have spares (to remember your FIL) & can share them with other family members too.
I am a new subscriber, I have my first orchid that I got for Mother’s Day a year ago, I was putting ice cubes in it like the instruction said till I started doing research on RUclips and started taking proper care of it and now my orchid has rebloomed in February and just lost the last bloom a week ago the middle of June and it looks healthy. I plan on reporting it soon. It also has grown a new leaf and two new roots and the roots down in the pot look great! Thank you again for this recording video.
That's awesome.. So exciting to see them blooming process. I just release a few "after bloom" video. Thank you so much for your orchid videos! I got an orchid for Mother's Day (less than a week ago), and I'm already killing it. I'm determined to keep it alive.
I got antsy as the narrative seems tedious, but I’m thankful I watched the whole video as it’s thorough enough to learn the basics. I’m looking forward to try this. Thank you.
I feel love for you for saving my orchids. Best class on orchids!!! It is too heartbreaking and traumatic to let them starve to death in a trash can. Now I don’t have to. Thank you!!
We are the step-parents to over dozen orchids that our daughter left with us when she moved to Germany 6 years ago. Several different types of orchids. She is the one with the skill and knowledge of orchids, and we have managed to kill off quite a few; others have never bloomed. I appreciate the step by step sequence for instructions. Maybe we can now make more of these orchids happy. Thanks so much-- and I had no trouble with the volume.
Thank you so much for making this video. I had 4 orchids that were in a worse state than the one on your video, and thanks to your guidance all four of my girls are healthy again. I wish you could see them one has even grown a new stalk and is about to flower. I always wondered why I was never very good at keeping orchids alive! Now I know. Thank you again
Are you serious? That is awesome!. So glad it worked for you. Please send pics if you can on Instagram @blkorchidproject I would love to see them. Thanks for the update.
I washed 4 videos before i found you! You are def the Bob Ross of orchids!!! So happy I found your video. Thank you for explaining this is an easy way!
Always breaks my heart when I see people throw plants in the trash ( some people even throw orchids out, after they bloom, as of they’re a cut bouquet! ) Thanks for helping the public learn about these awesome plants!
Great job! I have re-potted my orchid in a bark medium and it has been very happy for years. I love your suggestion to put the sphagnum on top to keep the bark from floating away while soaking and that you rescue sad orchids. Breaks my heart to see them in the trash.
I planted two of mine in miracle grow potting mix and they have both bloomed for the first time in two years and are growing so big. One even had another grow off of the stem the flowers were on. Now I have three blooming.
I don’t know anything about plant care but I really love them. I have a dying orchid just like this and went searching for a video. Thank you this helped. The step by step was very helpful
Got an orchid as tip for helping a florist with a tire change on a freeway (aaa driver), strange tip but I rushed it home so it wouldn't get beat up over the day in the truck. Now I'm on RUclips watching orchid care videos haha. Thanks for your work.
Thanks for the great information. I have been gifted with 3 different Orchids and they all died. Now I know how to take care of them so I look forward to the next one.
Glad you found some value in the video. Hope you give it a try again soon. This video has some idea for when you get it home. ruclips.net/video/XaPjGzbaYew/видео.html Thanks for watching.
@@RandyMHarris Randy great video. Is there a particular fertilizer you’d recommend for an established orchid & would it be used before or after flowering? Thank you.
It’s nice to see a guy that enjoys growing orchids.. I thought I was the only one. All of the orchid you tubers that I follow are all women, such as Miss Orchid Girl... hope you put out more orchid videos!

Randy M Harris Thank you! I actually tried this, this morning. I did everything I remembered you saying, but I forgot you said to soak it 😞 I, instead put about 2 tablespoons of water on top but not on the crown or leaves. I can take it back out if you think it best.
Thank you so much for this video! Since lockdown started, my mom has been giving her orchids too much attention (aka water). I took the two worst ones and followed your tips. It's been a few weeks and they're now thriving and making new roots!
That's awesome!!! Yeah, with too much time it's easy to give them too much attention.... Glad you caught it early. Gott let them dry out. That's a hard one for people. They feel like they are neglecting the plant.
Thank you!!! I have had a beautiful orchid for the last 3 years and I overwatered it and it rotted.. it’s a big beautiful plant. I noticed a healthy root poking out and now I will rescue it thanks to your information! It’s my grandmothers plant and if I didn’t notice it was waterlogged and it died.. I would have been devastated! So thanks again!
Thanks for this video, Randy. I knew what orchids were, but still didn't know how to take care of them properly. And it seems like the folks working at nursery's don't know much about them either. Most of my orchids look great for a long while but the blooming is rare and sporadic. I've told my hubby I'm not good at taking care of orchids but I think HE is the one who loves them...hahaha! Thanks again,...I'll be redoing my 6 pots of orchids immediately.
Thank you so much for your great RUclips about saving orchids! There are usually two orchids hanging out here at our farmhouse and amazingly they have bloomed repeatedly in the past using my pitiful basic knowledge including only watering from the bottom and using the same light fertilizer often when I do water. Now I’m inspired to get over hesitation around cleaning up and cutting out more of the dead roots in order to refreshen their containers, or repot them. It’s good to understand that it’s ok to do this! I’ve discovered that they actually thrive outside once warmer weather arrives late spring through early fall, in Piedmont/RTP of N.C. , in a shaded spot that also offers bright light on our patio. I love orchids and traditionally when money allows I go seeking a new one or two directly from a farm in a neighboring county where a cool man sells and raises orchids. He also has a large portion of one of his greenhouses for people’s orchids that he revives and/or babysits til they come back into bloom. You would enjoy his place I’m sure, “Hanks Orchids”, it’s probably listed as Pittsboro in Chatham or Orange Co., NC. Thanks again!!
Very cool Debbie, you are braver than I am. I've lot some of my favorite plants by putting them outside. I have vowed to never put mine outside again... You'll enjoy the repotting process. Hanks's place sounds awesome.. I would love to have a greenhouse one day. I'll look up his place to see if he has some info or pictures. Take care... fantastic! I've been looking for easy-to-follow CLEAR instruction with close up views of each step. You captured it all and so I just repotted my orchids with ease! THANK YOU!!!
oh my gosh, this was so helpful. I ordered plants and got a "free extra" which turned out to be an orchid. had ZERO clue what to do with it! thank you so much!

My poor neglected orchid sprouted a new leaf (to my surprise) and it's encouraged me to try and save it. The leaves haven't yellowed, but are very droopy, and the steams are quite dead, but this video has encouraged me and given me enough knowledge to try and save it! I've always loved orchids and felt really bad about the neglect, but it's still fighting so I'm gonna do what's best for it and look after it
Thank you so much for your love of orchids. Phalenopsis, the butterfly orchid I believe. Do you believe when rescuing that the pot have more than the drain hole on the bottom. Also what do you use to fertilize ? I use to use a 2 part, a blue & pink. Believe 3 blues to 1 pink. Many years ago. I'm the same w/the staghorn fern. Not sure also how to divide ? Love you love of orchids ! Candi
I am so thankful to have found you! I have recently tackled orchids during quarantine. So many rescue plants that I have needed a litle assistance on reviving. Great information!
I didn't watch your video untill today but my orchid is coming back with new leaves and now just watitng for the flower to come thanks for sharing this video
I try to be as kind as I can… It’s usually free and can make us all better. Most days I’m not sure if I’m whispering as much as I’m begging and wishing. Thank you for the kind words.
Thank you Randy! I just bought a beautiful orchid that was on clearance. I'm getting ready to replant it & you have put me at ease. I now feel very confident in repotting it. Great video! 🌱jc
Until four years ago I had a collection of 34 different types of orchids. The fall of 2017 I had the first arthroscopic shoulder surgery and I had a brace on for months where I wasn’t to move my arm. I relied on others to take care of my solarium full of plants. My orchids were first to die...The following fall, I had the other shoulder done. By the time I was able to somewhat move more freely, I was down to 6 orchids and now 4. I had done what you showed to save them, including using glue and cinnamon powder, after a wiping of weak alcohol, to seal any shaving of mold. So very disappointing to lose so many. Thank you for the tip on recycling the moss. That one I never tried...makes absolute sense.
Lina, Sorry for the delay getting back to you. Hope you’re healing well. Sounds like a great collection. So sorry to hear you last so many. As easy as it is for us it’s so hard for others. I believe it’s just knowing each plant and what it likes. Two of the same plant can like two different care methods, locations etc. I hope you get your collection re-established. Thanks for stopping by and sharing.
A friend of mine gave me an orchid about this size for my birthday and it's in this kind of condition right now (my first orchid). Thank you for making this! Now I know it's not too late and there is still hope for it to thrive!

Thanks for the tip on sorting/layering the planting medium. I've done the "top it with sphagnum moss", but it hadn't occurred to me to layer the rest. Good idea and it makes re-potting easier, too.
Thank you. I really enjoyed you showing us the basics. I just bought a phaleanopsis orchid that was reduced . I have immediately repotted it and followed your instructions and placed the moss on top. I can see already in 4 weeks it is looking healthier.
Like the way you show the bad/good roots but I feel like it would be better if maybe you used a (cheap) white paper plate or just like white drawing paper...??? 💁♀️💁♀️💁♀️because your instructions are so good.... 👍👍👍👍
What a great idea to give them away as they bloom. I appreciate knowing this repotting method. I have a couple of rescues, and about 8 in total, but was never sure about the planting medium. One I repotted in just bark, but it’s not doing so well. Now I know to add a little moss and styrofoam (reuse!) Thank you!
I was given a belated Mother’s Day orchid. I’ve never had an orchid before. Your directions were clear and easy to follow. I’ll watch again when I need ti repot. Thanks so much for sharing your video.
Glad it helped. Did you get a chance to watch the "I have a new orchid video"? I'm also releasing an "after bloom" video soon. Thanks fo watching Robin.
thank you for the information of repotting orchid, i have had one of the phalaenopsis for a year and a bit and it has flowered for me 3 times. It has just finished it flowering and am pleased i have watched your program now i know how to look after it properly.
I noticed that the yellow leaf is now almost torn off. Will this be a problem in the future ? You did a wonderful job doing everything else. I'm a 5th generation retired florist and have replanted 40 plus orchids during my life so far. Thanks to you.
Hey Ramsey thanks for stopping by. The yellow leaf will drop off itself that’s why I don’t tearing it off tearing it off just creates more stress on the plant.
Thank you for the straight forward tutorial! 🙏 Just left a video with a lengthy unnecessary explanation of photosynthesis 🤦 THIS VIDEO IS EXACTLY WHAT I NEEDED THANKS AGAIN 👍
My middle name is Orchid so I get one every year on my birthday and mother's day from my husband. I struggle keeping them alive. I Apreacitate this video :)
I am just getting into orchids and I wish I had found this video before throwing out an orchid that was dying. I love orchids and now feel confident in growing them. Do you feed them at all and if so what do you use. How often do they bloom.

My cousin's orchid was drying up indoors in the pot she purchased it in. My uncle removed the plant and placed it in a groove on the palm tree stem outdoors. Miracle, the orchid grew new leaves and flourished. It bloomed far better than when it was potted.
Yes, they naturally grow on the sides of trees. That will only work for a really small percentage of the population here in the US do to low humidity and extreme temperatures.
@@RandyMHarris yes yes they do grow on the side of trees in their natural habitat. I guess because we're near the sea (moisture in the air (but luckily because of the distance, not too much salt content included) and here in South Africa our climate is average, not too hot, not too cold either for them tropical rainforest orchids
I seem to have good luck with orchids, and thus am given lots of plants that would otherwise end up in the trash. But ‘luck’ is the operative word here, as I really don’t know what I’m doing, so this was extremely helpful!!! Thanks!
Stephen, it’s not luck. It’s instinct and knowledge from past projects, hobbies etc. Keep watching videos, mines and others and it will all come together for you. Good luck!!! Keep saving them!!!
I have never kept a plant alive. Recently given an orchid and it really seems to like me. So, I was told it will die after blooming. So glad to see this video. I will see how this works on my new friend.

I was wondering how to do this and there your video popped up! Thank you! Very informative. My only criticism is that I could barely hear you with the volume turned all the way up on your video and the sound turned all the way up on my MacBook Pro.

I bet your efforts will be fantastic! Good luck to be afraid👍
I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one to reuse old moss and potting medium after boiling it and letting it dry in the sun.

It is Very calming, and I have been told that plants loved to be talked to. I am happy to have found your video on orchids and repotting them. Thank you So much for sharing this vital information. Best tutorial on how to rescue orchids I have ever seen! Simple and straight to the point! Excellent!
Received one as a gift for my 90th birthday .Anxious to keep it alive and see the new flowers that are possible if it is cared for properly!

Shoot me a message on Instagram at instagram.com/blkorchidproject?igsh=ZDhraTViYnZrdXhx
Maybe I can give you a direct solution.
Thanks for sharing this info. I always test them before using them. They are all recycled. Better to be used in my plants than in the landfills.

Thank you so much,my mini orchid was dying and I almost threw it away.I’m so glad I found you ,your directions were concise and easy to understand. My orchid is now a rescue!
Glad to found the video and found it to be helpful. Good luck with reviving it. Would love to hear updates.
Thank you so much. I will no longer throw out dying orchids. So excited to repot and watch new growth. Thank you again.
Awesome, thanks for stopping by. Hopefully we can stop them from dying before having to rescue.
Thank you. I’m not surprised your plants recover, you have caring hands.

Good audio and info on repotting orchids ! Thank you !
@@RandyMHarris Ok thank you, I was hoping a new leaf would grow back. I'll still try, thank you your advice, much appreciated
Have great day,
@@RandyMHarris .
My orchid was a rescue I found at the dumpster in bad shape so I brought it home and nursed it I’ve had it for a few years and blooms twice a year!!
That is so awesome.. It's rewarding you for saving it.
how often do they bloom? i bought a discounted one for valentines day.

Hey Patricia,
Thanks for stopping by. Not sure I have a PHD in plants. More like an BA in phals…. 🤣 check out the Black Orchid Project Instagram. Lots more stuff there. ✌🏾
You didn’t mention what to do after the plant got waterlogged? Do you put it in a larger container? How often do you water it?
I know this! After watching your video I can save my beautiful orchids
Great job! I have re-potted my orchid in a bark medium and it has been very happy for years. I love your suggestion to put the sphagnum on top to keep the bark from floating away while soaking and that you rescue sad orchids. Breaks my heart to see them in the trash.
Yes, the moss helps a lot, especially if you like them to stay upright and centered. Thanks for stopping by.

Thanks for this video, Randy. I knew what orchids were, but still didn't know how to take care of them properly. And it seems like the folks working at nursery's don't know much about them either.

Lina,
Sorry for the delay getting back to you. Hope you’re healing well. Sounds like a great collection. So sorry to hear you last so many. As easy as it is for us it’s so hard for others. Help, help ..... Still NO sound !!!
Ben, try this. On some devices you have to increase the sound on your device as well as the sound on RUclips by the play button. Hope this helps...
Maybe have the foster home text you a pic of the orchid? I'd love to see, for inspiration.
But if not, I will live. Thanks for posting this. I have lost so many orchids but will now try again!
@@benhugi4575 And if what you were told for sound doesn't work, use it on a bluetooth speaker.
I'm in north jersey on Motorola e cannot hear you well with volume at max....
Oh SA…. Awesome!!! We always forgot how global internet interaction is. I just assumed you were in the US.
@@RandyMHarris lol it's COoL
I seem to have good luck with orchids, and thus am given lots of plants that would otherwise end up in the trash. But ‘luck’ is the operative word here, as I really don’t know what I’m doing, so this was extremely helpful!!! Thanks!
Stephen, it’s not luck. It’s instinct and knowledge from past projects, hobbies etc. Keep watching videos, mines and others and it will all come together for you. Good luck!!! Keep saving them!!!
Thank you sooo much oh my lord awesome video. Love my orchids now i know how to handle my orchids.
I also rescue dying and sad plants from the stores.
I recently started to do this. Plants from Walmart.
Same here
Yeah, the clearance shelf.....
I do, too 💕
I do the same
I have never kept a plant alive. Recently given an orchid and it really seems to like me. So, I was told it will die after blooming. So glad to see this video. I will see how this works on my new friend.
J A, Glad you found a plant that like you...LOL It will 100% live for years on end if cared for right. Here is a video to help you through the first few stages of caring for the plant. Feel fee to shoot me any questions you may have over on Instagram. Good luck
I think that is a myth promoted by people to keep the market turning, they're relying on you to kill one to make a sale of another, mostly it seems they succeed , don't let their marketing get to you.
Rescued an orchid from my sister..lol. She is not a plant person and had left it. Hoping i can save it. Your video was big help. Wish me luck!
Hey LSW….. That’s awesome. Good luck on your orchid journey. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself. 👊🏾✌🏾
@@RandyMHarris thanks so much for the reply! I followed your instructions and the remaining roots have plumped up, turned green and I am seeing new root growth (most of the roots were completely rotted and shriveled up). Thank you for the encouragement. ❤️
I am trying to save 3 dying plants my wife found discarded by her church……….This will be my first time with orchids
Good luck, hopefully the info on the channel will be beneficial for your journey. Be patient!!! ✌🏾
My Love for Orchids & caring for them led me to this Video but not only that,❤I noticed your Profile Pic! My Grandfather was apart of the Black Horse Calvary Regime. We received his 💜&🇺🇸Flag before I was born. It’s not often we come across the same.

Thanks, Randy! Your videos have been very helpful. I have a request: Could you include some before-after stories? It would be super helpful if you could show us what we can expect as we rehabilitate some dying orchids?
Yes, I will... FYI I have moved my orchid content to a new channel The Black Orchid Project ruclips.net/channel/UC0Vek_K6UlhF5eyJlhOCHlQ If you would like to follow along.
There are a few updates to plants there.

Randy you are the bomb! You have taught me so much in this little video that I never knew. I am going to start following you for sure!

You did not remove the yellow leaf, why ?
Thank you so much for educating me on orchids. I’ve had one for three years that was given to me by my middle son. Is surviving but it’s only bloomed twice in three years and the life Spand of the bloom was not more than about a week and a half.
So 2 blooms in 3 years is not that uncommon. 1 week blooms is odd. Are you still feeding during bloom? If so are you using a bloom formula?
Thank you from me and my new orchid baby in NYC!
I was wondering how to do this and there your video popped up! Thank you! Very informative. My only criticism is that I could barely hear you with the volume turned all the way up on your video and the sound turned all the way up on my MacBook Pro.
Caren, glad it could be of help. Not sure what happened with this video some can hear it just fine some have a hard time. Good luck with your plant.
