    You can make suggestions without being a**holes about it, no one is forcing you to watch this video, or anyone else’s for that matter. Just make the suggestion, no need to be nasty about it, with all the dramatics, most of us are not as tech savvy as we think we are, trial and error.
    Thank you for taking the time to upload and share, and being kind to those were unnecessarily rude.

    The best thing I ever bought was a water meter. It tells you if it needs water or not. I was truly surprised that I usually water weekly, but a lot of them didn't need it ! Haven't lost a plant since ❤

    I’m not at all a good gardener …. And it is wonderful to find someone with your knowledge…. I’ve just repotted my rubber plant three days ago …. I really hope I haven’t killed it! Having listened to you at least I won’t make the mistake of overwatering, but I now have a horrible feeling that I have picked too large of a pot! I had never properly understood why a lot of water was bad for a plant ….but now I do! Thank you! Living in Australia I will need to follow your advice with a 6 month delay!!😊

      For me, depends where u get ur plants and even if u knew but it depends on the plants needs and conditions. One example I've been buying from a reliable nursery but when I got my zz raven and Hoya krimson queen they came in pure peat soil and the raven was just watered as it was heavy. I transferred them to fast draining soil and if I didn't do it for raven, it would probably die now coz the roots/potato rhizomes were mushy, I cleaned them right away, dried and covered with cinnamon then after few days drying potted them. That plant looks healthy & normal when it was delivered but inside had started to root rot

    Thank you very much for the tips on repotting and watering. I always thought repotting into a larger pot would give the plants more space to grow. But unfortunately quite often the plant dies and on checking the roots I fond that the roots have not spread out and have remained confined to the original pot size and the roots have rotted. Also now I realized that I have been over watering because of the size of the pot. Your video has been very helpful and going forward I think I will not be killing any of my plants 😅

    Very good video. Lots of positive information. I do wish you had stressed using a moisture meter. It takes the guess work out of when to water your plant. A meter saved my plant’s life when I first got it. We tend to over water them thinking we are caring for them. I agree the back ground music is too loud and distracting. You really don’t need music at all. Your voice is soft and soothing and gets over run by the music. Next video try not using music at all.

    I started an avocado plant from the pit by the tooth pick in a jar of water trick. It grew real well and put out a nice set of leaves and decided to try to pot it in soil because the pit began looking like it was trying to rot. I still planted it only to the point where the water reached on the pit, leaving the top of the seed about 1/3 above the soil line. It had nice roots but ever since I planted it I’ve been losing 1 leaf at a time starting from the lower leaves. I only have 2 leaves left. Help!

    • @PlantCornerNYC
      @PlantCornerNYC  2 месяца назад

      Hi Mike, sometimes moving the roots from water to soil could cause plants to struggle. If you notice that the plants are losing leaves, I recommend taking it out of the current soil and check the roots. If the root has rotted (black and mushy) I would remove the rotted part, clean the and spray the rest with hydrogen peroxide before potting it in the new soil. Make sure your planter has drainage holes and water only when the soil is dry! Hope that helps!

    I repotted my giant pothos and now all the leaves are limp, falling off and are yellow 😭 will it get better?

    • @PlantCornerNYC
      @PlantCornerNYC  5 месяцев назад

      Hi, I would probably take it out and check the roots because the symptom sounds like root rot!

  • @petedetraglia4776
    @petedetraglia4776 6 месяцев назад +5

    Root rot is NOT caused by having a pot that is too big. It's cause by not having your soil mixture correct and the roots not getting enough oxygen. All in door plants need a well draining soil and to be in a pot with many holes in the bottom and sides of the pot SO water can't stand at the roots. Only 30% of my mixture is actual soil. The rest is orchid bark cut into different size pieces, charcoal, perlite, and in some cases Leca or Lechuza Pon. When my soil dries out I fully water the entire pot through, let it drain out, and then also bottom water in the clay saucer for about 20 minutes and then drain out the saucer. IF you don't fully water the pot until it drains through atleast every other month salt build up from your fertilizer is going to damage your roots. Plants rely on water more the fertilizer as fertilizer doesn't make your plants thrive is the nutrients in the fertilizer that enables better uptake of water so that the entire plant from root, stem, all the way up to the leaves receive excellent transport of water...

      I've had even gritty cactus soil hold too much water for too long when the plant is overpotted.

    When you say sanitize the roots before repotting, should we spray them with a hydrogen peroxide water mix? Is it okay to just spray that on all the roots?

    • @PlantCornerNYC
      @PlantCornerNYC  8 месяцев назад +1

      Thank you for the question! Yes! If the roots have rotted (mushy, black parts) then I would cut the rotted roots and spray them with a mixture of 1 part hydrogen peroxide and 4 parts water. Let it dry and then repot

    Just one tip for the video: avoid using NOISY background music. It makes it hard to hear what you are saying, and it is irritating too. Use some soft music instead. Remember: it is supposed to be BACKGROUND music, not a disco.

    • @PlantCornerNYC
      @PlantCornerNYC  7 месяцев назад +2

      Thank you for taking the time to leave the comment! The reason for it is that I didn't know any better 😅 It's awkward for me to just listen to myself so I added the background music hoping it would be better. Lesson learned tho, I have been removing the background music in my newer videos. I hope you'd give them a chance.

    You know all the videos I have seen make this gardening thing seem so easy. But after spending so much money over the years just to have plants die I am slowly losing interest. The marigold and lavender I just repotted last week I think drown from the va rain. Last spring/summer too much heat. Now you saying I could be putting the plants in too big of a pot. 😢 too stressful I did not inherit my mom's green thumb.
