Things I absolutely need to do in October: stop buying plants and start buying extra grow lights.
Jokes on you, I bought both 😂
Here I m thinking watching plants videos will fulfill (a little bit) my need to get more plants. You guys definitely not helping 🤣
@@michelletannn right? I'm on a definitive plant ban but it's so hard not to at least WANT the plants I see on RUclips
I miss your full videos. I started. Caring and buying plants because of watching your channel. I know it's a lot to do. Thank you for all you do.😊
My 40+ Amaryllis live in 9 or 11 litre pots as their root system can grow up to 1m long and leaves up to 1,5m long. They are all under grow-lights. No forced dormancy with digging them up and putting them in a cool basement. They go dormant themselves if they want and last winter only 7 did that. And they are doing amazing. All have 7-13 leaves and flower with at least 2 flower spikes. Thanks grandma for infecting me with the "hippe bug"! May you rest in peace. 😊
I’m doing spring here in Sydney Australia, but remember my birth home gardening 😊
I don’t have any indoor plants. But I have a lot of tropical plants in my patio, so you always give me good advice to keep them alive.
That's a worry for another day 😀 That's some great problem solving right there!
😅
Very 💯 useful and informative
🤡 👍
I did take care of my amaryllis yesterday, but instead of potting up, I dug them from the garden and put them in a brown paper bag to rest for at least two months. I will have to buy a couple of bulbs for Christmas color or enjoy them for Easter.
Something I do to help keep my plants growing upright is to regularly rotate the pots so that the foliage is facing away from the light source. This causes the plant to "reach" in the opposite direction and gives all the foliage a better chance of getting the light it needs while also keeping it from becoming bent in one direction.
You've helped me save all my plants the past few months! W
Good morning. So many plant chores to do before cool weather starts. Thanks for sharing!
Omg, I found myself holding my breath when you chopped that philodendron 😮
Good morning from SW Missouri, USA. Your video has lit a fire under me to get busy getting all my leafy babies ready for the winter season. Bringing in all the outdoor plants to the guest bathroom until I am sure no “ free loading pest” came in with them! Then moving around those already inside to make room for our outdoor friends. Gets a bit crowded(The Misters Word), COZY(my word)! Thanks for all your good advice. Have a lovely day.
You too!
I would pot mine up after all the christmas decorations are down.
Hello, Mr Sheffield!
I just wanna say a big thanks for your videos. I just started having house plants and your instructions helped me a lot. Although I made the mistake of buying a Calathea as a starter, it is still thriving. Currently I got a snake plant, a Calathea, 3 treubii moonlights and propagating a Chinese ever green.
This hobby is really addictive and it is so satisfying to see the plants grow. Wishing your plants and family to have a pleasant winter 🙏🏽💛
Fantastic!
Best videos as always! Prehaps a video on plants that don't mind central heating, like jade, snake, dessert cactus, umbrella etc. Thanks for keeping me going through dark times. Your funny, light hearted and I love how you share that things arnt always perfect. Makes us feels like we are all on the journey together. ❤
Thanks for watching 😁
The way I gasped with that first cut
Good morning Mr Sheffield!! Another great video on prepping for Fall/Winter!! Repotting, chopping, and redistribution for light changes...
I have been watching your videos since you first started and you have taught me something new every time!!!
Sounds great!
Lots of hands on, I love it. Thanks Rich, for all the help. Love and Peace.
Thanks for watching 😁
Watching from Trinidad. Love your tips, I am on my way to becoming a crazy plant lady. 🪴😺🤗
🥳🥳
Have a Blessed day 🙏🤗 Love your videos 💞
Thank you 😊
I haven’t had anything to tend to for my plants lately so your plant care vid came right on time! I always look forward to seeing what you have going on and these particular vids are always so inspiring! I did get the plant guide bc sometimes it is a pain to scour the internet for an answer when there’s a perfect plant guide right here! Thanks 💚
Perfect!
Good morning Mr. Sheffield!!! Always so happy to see a new video from you. I’ve been propping so many succulents. You’re right it so easy. I keep a little plate with some soil and any leaves I prune off I throw in there including strings of things! Takes awhile but they are growing nicely! I’m going to order an Amaryllis bulb now too😀🌻. Have a great day!!!
My regular plants are all healthy and bushy and green… But my prop box is full of dead leaves that just don’t know how to survive.
Glad you are finding it easy!
Great stuff 👍
@@AlphaGeekgirlWhat type of substrate do you use for the prop box? I found more success with moss and heard good things about perlite, but I never had much success with Coco coir
I have similar moss poles and I was frustrated that they wouldn’t stack. To be able to extend them, I inserted some plastic garden stakes down the back of the moss pole. It works perfectly by staking the pole in the pot and helping the moss poles to stay upright and connect.
@@jamiehill3220 great idea!
Another useful handy tips video from Mr Sheffield. I must admit I prefer the plastic "moss" poles as you have used in this video to the choir variety. However, to stablize them I fill the bottom, upto soil level with stones. I always water my plants with rain water taken from one of my water butts. During spring and summer I do add a little fertilizer every other watering but during the darker months I just use pure rain water as rightly or wrongly I think that rainwater has some built in nutrients though I have never tested this.
I am so glad I watched this ! Thank you!
Thanks for watching 😁
I ordered an amaryllis today from a local plant shop. I remember Ikea used to carry them, but not this year - at least not yet. Although I will have colour aplenty from my pink plant collection over the winter... and for Xmas from a giant Xmas tree and decorations galore 😅 and radiators? I had to stop using a couple not to hurt my green children.
Happy Autumn! 🌻🍁🍂🌰🎃
I bought a Christmas cactus about 5 years ago which has grown really nicely, lovely shiny leaves and a good shape but hasn't flowered since I got it 😢. This morning I noticed tiny little flower buds all over it 😅 I'm made up, cant wait to see what colour they'll be, it's been so long I've forgotten 😊thanks for all your advice, it's made a big difference to my plants and I'm sure they'd thank you if they cud x
Always watch your videos and thanks so much for all of your information. I never knew growing amaryllis was so easy. On my way to the shop.
You bet!
I was lucky this year in Summer that two Amaryilis from 2 and 3 years ago have flowered again. Otherwise only green leaves had ever grown.
I have mine on that same type moss pole, and it’s a veritable fungus gnat playground. I’m waiting for it to dry out so I can treat it with hydrogen peroxide in the hopes of keeping it reasonable.
Try cinnamon on the top , and maybe pepper and garlic powder
12:40 I hope you also propagated that chunk you cut off! Would be a waste not to since the plant is quite pretty.
Great tips and advice as always, thank you very much
Cheers bruvva
Thank you for the awesome tips for the colder, darker months! It would probably have been a good idea to let that giant philodendron cutting callous over for a bit. I would have done it because it was a pretty juicy thick stem… Maybe I’m overly cautious 😁
Growing happily
@@SheffieldMadePlants That’s a relief to hear! It’s a beautiful top cutting 😊
Thank you so much for these great ideas
Cheers!
Excellent!
Oops lol I need to go get mine from outside and get them in the dark I got some double white Amaryllis to re-bloom and some reds and pinks
Thanks!!!
Nice!
My alocasia silver dragon is going dormant right now. I am so over alocasia! Lol. The only one that doesn't is my Cuprea. Now that I said that, it probably will
I'm getting an Amaryllis every year from my employer. You don't even need soil, just a layer of water for the roots is sufficient. Maybe soil is even better (never tried) but mine did just fine.
Interesting 🤔
great vid!!!
Thanks!
I bought a Watermelon plant from a grower. He is so kind as to send me.2 more in water, and one more in dirt !!. No idea how big these are. Can I pop them all together in one pot?. Or make 4 separate pots ?
Thanks in advance .😂
Either will work!
but just know that if you do plant an amarylis in a tiny pot, it will bloom by dec. but it will not rebloom as if it were growing for years in a larger pot. no?
Thanks for your excellent videos. Are you sure SYBotanica is the best recommendation for UK people? An £11.00 universal mix bag is £8.99 to ship to the UK. Obviously soil is heavy but an alternative recommendation that we can go and pick up locally from a garden centre would be appreciated. Cheers
Hello Mr. Sheffield, thank you for these useful tips! I wanted to ask if you cut back your grow light time in fall/winter? I normally run my lights for 15 hours year round, but I see some cut back on light, doing the same amount of time that nature gives us fall/winter. Any thoughts? Thank you.
Nope that seems pointless. I want my plants to do well in winter so have them on the same alll year
I need your expertise... One of my jade plant is pushing some aerial roots... Never saw this before. Is it normal? Thanks :D
Don’t think I have either. Doubt it’s an issue
Sometimes roots grow right out of bottom so is it okay if i push plant out and twit it little and fix it so roots would be in pot again? Like otherwise i would just keep putting them bigger and bigger pot. I usually did repot them in bigger pot but i saw there's not much roots all over the soil. they just grown Stright out
Perfectly normal and fine to leave them growing out of the pot
Question: are Grow lights (UV Spectrum) dangerous for our health (skin) via the indirect exposure (for several months during winter) while in use for the plants?
Not that i am aware
Thanks Master of the Sheffield cult 🫡
Do you ever use hormone rooting powder on your cuttings????
Nah I found it’s not necessary
Do you use the same water with feed for when you’ve repotted cuttings?
Not for a month or two. The mix normally has fertiliser in
do you water or something the succulent cutting later on? I noticed that they die after a while when I water them
When the soil dries out. I don’t water much while they are rooting
I want to get growlights for my houseplants but I really don't understand the significance of Watts.
If a plant doesn't live next to a window, how much Watts does it need?
10w bulb is a good start. 30w give you more coverage
When you plant your new cutting, do you put the aerial roots in the soil or only on top of it?
Include the aerial roots
@@SheffieldMadePlants thank you for the reply!
What wattage grow lights would you recommend for my spider plants?
I like the clip on with 3 heads. Each head is 10w
@@SheffieldMadePlants Thank you so much, ill try a similar set up
Do you need to keep the sphagnum moss moist for the air roots?
Yep
@@SheffieldMadePlants ok I thought so but wanted to make sure. I'm thinking about converting to something like this because the rope wrapped poles aren't cutting it lol
@@KellieDTravisthe one Mr. Sheffield has in the video stays moist for longer rather than the traditional round chicken wire ones, since the plastic one is only open on one side.
A monstera might grow into the rope pole since they grow into wooden planks, but I'm not 100% sure. It will still give your plants support which will give you bigger leaves
@frogsbongs thank you! I was thinking for a different plant
Do I need to do any of this if my plants live in a temperature controlled room under grow lights?
Any of this? Which parts?
@@SheffieldMadePlants I meant more is the season aspect of the advice relevant to those of us that keep plants in static conditions all year. Do they have an internal clock that necessitates the specific care at this point, or is it all a result of a changing environment?
@@squoblat it’ll be the changing environmental so you should be fine
@@SheffieldMadePlants Amazing, thank you.
I think you have 'Red beauty', not 'New red'
do you put timer on your lights or turn then off on manually?
Some have timers but some are manual
@@SheffieldMadePlantsthanks!!! I love your channel!!!!

i live in a dim space. it looks like you live in a wonderland of light.
any vids about lighting? thanks you, i enjoy your channel .
