I still hope that one day someone will give you a platycerium. In my humble opinion, it really is the perfect cross between plant culture and natural artistic display
Love your bromeliad display/experiment Jan. Bromeliads are one of my favourite plants. They are so low maintenance like you said and perfect for a shadier garden like mine. The tree fern trunk was the perfect thing to grow them on. It looks very natural 🐈
Such a great way to reuse and recycle!! They have grown beautifully and love the look of the little plant pups just floating off the mount. Very Avatar! You can also grow soak orchids on there too!
Lol! Brad lost his innocence in this video. I love your trash to treasure way of thinking and it was really so relatable that you had that trunk in your garage for 2 years before you used it. Thank you for always being real!
Loved the chaos in this video. The drill, the dust in your hair and the randy birds had me laughing the whole way through. Also love the content...growing plants on other things is on my to do list. I love the natural look. 🐦🐦
if you want to green it up put some live moss and buttermilk into a blender and mix it thoroughly. You can paint the moss/milk onto area sespecially around the base of the bromeliads . You can also use live sphag for an instant green up
I love this, looks great. I did something similar but instead I used ferns, orchids and elkhorns. 🌱 My latest trial is some orchids where the branches grow from the main trunk of our Poinciana tree.
Hi Jan, nice tree. But I think Brad would have preferred a new scratching post. Tell him to use the rear. Just one tip for fixing plants. You may use small amounts of superglue (cyanacrylat) without solvents. Aquascapers use it widely in their aquariums. This glue turns white drying if the surfaces are moist. It remains clear drying on dry surfaces.
Ah, thank you... This has inspired me. There are many tree frogs here; perhaps if I create something similar to yours, the tree frogs might sleep or take a nap on the bromeliads. That would be adorable....💚💚
I love that you've used yard trash to create this beautiful inspiring display. We don't have tree ferns up north here, but I've collected driftwood with potential ( indoor) plant displays in mind. It would be fun to see all the different kinds of (sticks) branches people find locally. Next planty adventure, maybe a garden water feature ( fountain or small pond) to see the Colocasias thrive? Been keeping my Mojito in aroid mix that always has water/ nutrients 2/3 full in cover pot to keep it happy until I figure out some sort of water display myself. Thanks again for the inspo, so many ideas so little time 😹
Oh your old garden.. Is that palm with you in your new garden? This experiment looks awesome! 👏🏻your drill should have a reverse in case it ever gets stuck 👍🏻
I’d adore building something like that, in our arid climate I’d definitely have to add moss to the base for sure though I’d have a really tough time deciding on whether to keep the pups attached to the momma or pop them into their own holes to fill the branch out more! Decisions decisions! Yours looks so good like that I’d have to leave it as is I think, wouldn’t wanna cover the looknof that branch underneath it’s pretty cool, I’ve got a shingling Rhaphidophora I tried on a branch used for reptile enclosure decor, the branch ended up being a bit thin for the plant, it didn’t sit properly against the wood, so I’m moving to a cedar plank next I think
I have some bromeliads in pots, in a (UK) north facing window, they look in a similar growth stage as yours which is reassuring! I might propagate a couple onto bark and move them back a bit to see what the results are. Always fun to experiment with new things...and to see other people having similar results is, like I say, reassuring!! (I loved Brad's thought bubble!!)
If you enjoyed bromeliads, do a display with orchids 🙏💞. I enjoy mine so much ! Super easy to care for . If you want something extremely weird and striking try a bulbophylum Elizabeth Anne 💫 GOOD LUCK
Beautiful tree fern trunk, what a great find! 🤗 Love what you did with it😍 I'm sur it wouldn't be suitable, but for some stupid reason, I couldn't stop thinking it would make a very attractive didgeridoo😂
Tried a couple of times with a few bromeliads, killed them all, so I gave up, but I have a tip for you 🙂 Try at least with one bromeliad to drill a new hole and secure a new shoot into the wood. When it takes a root, cut the "umbilical cord". Through observation I noticed that the mother plant accelerates with new shoots, at least as far as agave, some cacti, chlorophytum are concerned. I think it causes some kind of "plant survival stress", and you will end up with a much more massive bush, especially in the long run (Fill the base first, then let the fireworks begin)... but again, that's just my opinion based on a few plants. Keep doing what you're doing! Nice job so far 👍(I mean in general)
You got soooo lucky with that tree fern stump. I'm not sure you can even buy one that big over here in Germany. Even small pieces for terrarium supply cost like 20-30€
Such a good idea 👍 I wonder if you could do something like this with hoya or dischidia if you provide them with an bit of moss or treefern fiber to root in? I might have a try if I stumble upon a nice thick branch in the park 😊🌿
Definitely inspired!! Thank you!! You know, my daughter (paleontologist) has a large chunk of that tree's ancestor (in fossil form) that I have been trying to sneak away from her. hahahaha I will pop a photo on your Facebook page- it is so cool. She has given me many plant fossils which is so fun to compare to what could be their counterparts today and I think I just may start incorporating into my displays. Now I am wondering about something else you could try, that I may, too...driftwood with air plants? Not really a fan but you got me thinking.... Many, many thanks, Jan! Biggest love to Bradley- please give him an extra treat or two from me.

As long as they have water in their cups they'll grow, they also get nutrients that way from drowned bugs and falling organic matter.
I have so many different types and sizes of bromeliads. I love every type of plants. I really enjoyed you featuring something different
Thank you:)

Love the way they look on the tree trunk
Thank you:)
So cool! We've been teased about this project for a whole year. 😆 Cool experiment. Great job on the bromeliads!
Thank you! 😀
I love your excitement and confidence, lifts my mood. Thank you! Your creative experiment turned out nice 😊
Thank you:)
That's Beautiful.
Awesome idea now thriving!👏🏽👏🏽🫶🏽🫶🏽❣️
Love the pattern on the trunk. We just planted 2 tree ferns in our garden underneath a large tree. Turned out great! 🌿💚✅
Once I own a garden I really want to plant some too!!!
