For your friend not being a plant person, it seems like they've kept it pretty nice and healthy. You're a solid guy for giving away your plants and taking care of them afterwards so they're nice for your friends. One of the many reasons I love this channel.

    Beautiful video again❤
I watched all of your videos, may be several times
    That was so great
I wanted to thank you long ago
    Because
In the beginning of the the year I knew nearly nothing about plants, I started my plant journey, now my moss poles are nearly about 1,5-two meters high
    “Chop and extend” coming soon
    And!!!
I have no fear now! I can feel, what my plants want to say, I can wait, I’m much more passionate about them
And! I fired from my previous job in June and since then I work with plants in different places, in restaurants, in hotels, in plant shop, I’ve been working with summer terraces for three months, and they were thriving!
Nothing of this wasn’t possible without your channel!
Sorry for the long read, thank you once again 💚

I'm very happy about this video. I potted up my monstera with a moss pole over a year ago, but never filled it with moss due to procrastination 😂 Everyday I felt a little guilty about not filling it up, but not anymore 😂. Since it's an established plant, I lost the timing 🎉 there's nothing I can do about it anymore 😊

Hi from india, i have been watching all your videos and trying moss poles on my monstera , i bought my monstera from nursery after watching your videos, then took the top cutting, propagated in water, now its been a month my new monstera is on a moss pole, a new leaf has come up. Agreed with what you said about taking top cuttings. I wish one day i have a big monstera like yours 😂 .

I love your passion! I think you explained it very well. I needed this video! I made my first 2 moss poles. I wanted to put a few plants on each to fill out the poles. I chopped them up and water propagated them. I recently put them on the poles and the mother plant has multiple nodes and is part way up the poles. So now that’s all wasted space. I knew I needed to cut them back but I’ve been avoiding it. Watching your video has given me the confirmation I needed to chop them back. Thank you Jan and Brad. You guys are the best!

After watching some of your previous videos, I went out and bought materials and began making moss poles with aspirations of having big beautiful plants climbing up them. Anyhow, I did a number of the things with established Pothos that you so thoroughly explain in here why to not do them. Thanks!

I brought a monstera from a DIY store. Split into 8 plants. First it never occurred to me to plant more than one to make it look more lush. I don’t mind maintenance at all. I’m thinking to add a moss pole so the smaller ones can utilise it and also so I can add a second pole on top and do the chop on that one when it’s ready.

Brads a cuddlebum today ❤ mines like this in the morning, like she’s missed me all night 😂
Any “established “ plant I wanna put on a moss pole, I take cuttings of and root them first, then I’ll put those rooted cuttings on a moss pole and start from scratch, just in the process of rooting cuttings of my Epi Pinn Albo, and a shingling Hoya and Rhaphidophora. 1 for a moss pole, the others for cedar planks, I wish I could afford the tree fern boards to put the shingles on but cedar should work too, I might attach moss to it first
I put my Philo white wizard on a moss pole but it was already 1 foot tall or so, we’ll see if the new nodes attach or not, bit of an experiment
I got a bit moss pole crazy though and made the mistake of putting a little monstera Deliciosa on it.. now the moss pole is full of roots right to the top of its 24 inches coming out the top, AND through the pole down out the bottom of the pot! and the plants stem attaching actually only 1/4 of the way up lol now what?! lol

  • @joshuabeattie5119
    @joshuabeattie5119 Месяц назад

You can totally put established monsteras on moss poles. Old nodes will root into the pole. New aerial roots will striking from older/lower points along the stem since the pole is emitting humidity. The benefit of doing this is if your pot goes sour and roots rot you still have roots in the pole. I broke up 2 mature monstera pots and put with 4 monsters vines per moss pole and all 12 plants took to the pole. It took straps for about 6 months but looks a lot cleaner and is easier to maintain.

    • @sydneyplantguy
      @sydneyplantguy  Месяц назад

not saying it's impossible ... just saying it's not taking full advantage of the pole AS THE PLANT is growing up. You are basically just air-layering the plant in hindsight

Thank you for addressing this! It must have been devine intervention! In spring I saved a cutting from a "severely neglected office Monstera" to was able to propagate. I made a moss pole and each leaf grew larger. Since March: the small leaf was 13cm. My newest - the 5th - is 28cm! The problem was it kept growing horizontally! This caused me to make 2 additional mosspoles side by side in a vertical pot- even though it has a overhead light. Each node is catching wonderfully to a pole. But when you showed us how the small one would be placed onto the mosspole - I had an AH-HA moment! Palm to face!!! I most definitely planted it sideways by the direction of the leaves instead of the stem! Silly me. Since it is no longer growing season, should I wait or should I propagate the two largest leaves now?
    THANK YOU!

i created a round living wall terrarium thats about 5ft tall and about 3ft wide (sorry they didnt teach me metric like the rest of the world knows LMFAO) and my supports are CHOLLA WOOD! I used expanding foam on the curved plexiglass and stuck in the wood in a branching pattern and then draped with a recycled fishing net. The lighting is atop and in front. I have a decent amount of plants in there and even a fishtank for one to grow in. I took everything i learned from you and serpadesign and techplant and sheffield made plants and kill this plant's pages to have this success. Every new leaf is a victory!

I have 2 cuttings of the monstear albo, but they are very very small and I think one will die soon as it gave me 2 white leaves in a row 🤦‍♀
My adinsonii needs a chop and extend, but it´s really loosing a lot of bottom leaves right now, I´m a bit scared as I dont know what´s going on. I hope it´s just me not watering the pole enough. Might need to send in a picture to doctor SPG for help 🥺

How did I MANIFEST this video!! I’m so glad you are the creator who read my mind!! I’ve been so curious about this because I only have plants on stakes, planks and trellises since all of my plants live outside, pretty much year around at the moment. I’ve even asked a few of my other fav plants RUclipsrs and NONE of them replied. I have a monstera and 3 ft adansonii on stakes that have tons of aerial roots.
The adansonii I want to chop and prop but I’m worried the aerials will rot in water/aroid mix if I don’t cut them back and the monstera is a large form that suffered some cold damage last winter. I basically covered it and the sheet somehow became damp while touching the leaves, then I believe the sheet froze so once it defrosted it melted the leaves. I cut it all back, which was sort of a blessing in disguise because now I have 8 plants of ascending sizes that grew from the chonks!
Unfortunately there is some fungus growing out the drainage holes in the bottom so I’m going to separate the plants in order to put a few of the nicest looking plants on a pole. ❤

My Thai constellation monsteras are yellowing all the younger leaves. They are new plants throwing up their sixth and seventh leaves. I think it's a root issue, soil looks problematic. Using an instant liquid fertilizer but it doesn't seem to help. I built my first moss pole and it looks pretty okay, and made a batch of soil, 1 part each: homemade charcoal, chunky coco coir, perlite, and pumice, with a handful of vermiculite and earthworm castings. Transplanting when I get home from work later today.

I use coconut hush chunks in my Monstera pole. They go into the pole and it saves me from having all those ugly aerial roots all over. My friends Monstera pulled the paint off the wall. I don't water my pole and it is filled with roots. Likely works because of high humidity.

In hindsight angle you could maybe use word hindsight bit more often. It was kicking my ear in every corner and It's not actually the right word as it mean you notice afterwards something that one should have maybe noticed or realised before doing something. Like "in hindsight it wasn't a good idea to wash your clothes in peroxide "
If your putting a pole afterwards you could say in hindsight itvis easier to do with not yet established plant. But in hindsight I would say some words are not ment to be used too often 😂

    Weiter so dude! 💪🏽🍀

Keep airflow up & be conservative with your watering :)
