That is such simple good advice -to grow what CAN grow in your place. It’s something people miss actually. Even myself. I am glad to be reminded of this. So i don’t lose heart.

I just bought a house. My first ever garden or even yard. (I’ve been three floors up for decades). So im collecting advice and plant udeas fir my garden. And -sure enough! - I’ve been letting fantasy take over somewhat. Not completely. But , i have indeed fallen in love with some plants, and decided I will MAKE them grow. Thats all bull. Road to heartache. (And to misery for the poor plants. ). I think this is common, because human beings ignore the ‘obvious’ almost as a way of life, lol. So thanks. And greetings from Warracknabeal
Hi Jan, can you maybe put together a list, based on your experience, for which plants it makes sense to put more than one cutting on a pole and for which plants maybe one is enough? This list is not supposed to be THE ONE list to adhere to but I find myself struggling whether I should propagate a single cutting of a new plant in order to get a lusher display or if it looks just fine as a single plant.

I started my plant journey fairly recently and have realized I’ve never really thought about the decoration aspect. I’ve also learned that some plants do better than others in my conditions that I was surprised of and has resulted in me experimenting frequently with what I can actually keep 😅

Very entertaining as well as helpful! You've just made me realise why I have so many plants! I always had at least 4-6 good looking healthy plants. But I was the sort that always rearranged rooms, I love change, its what I love about gardening, that it grows, never static. I'm more limited in what I can do now, so plants have become my way of changing a room as I can only move whats on wheels of the furniture. I also painted the whole house interior white years ago( small windows, needed more light reflected) and only put colour on walls with windows which doesn't darken the room. Now I use lights for plants, but love the extra light for myself. Still getting surprised by some of the plants that thrive, but totally enjoying rearranging things as needed. Thanks for the tips! Will be tying up my cuprea tomorrow 😜

Great advise. I have certainly gotten myself in trouble re not planning the growth. Plants can also be much nicer then art just a little more work 😃 At the 14.20 mark to 14.50 I see what's going through Brad's mind. Here he goes again talking about those green things we have around the house instead of giving me his 100% undivided attention.

You are spot on regarding using basic or bland furniture pieces when one has spectacular plants, objects & art to display. My home is very small, so I need to maximise storage & efficiency as well as display my favourite objects, including plants. IKEA’s Kallax range is king here!

I caught the restyling bug last night around midnight 🤣 I got a few done before I forced myself to clean up and go to bed lol. I really want to do more today, but of course I have a bunch of other things to do that are “more important” lol

i like both for the interior, very beautiful pot and rare plant, for me pot is very important , its like a beautiful vase , i like green pots, spanish mosaics, even a glass pot for orchid with lots moss, im using for many plants moss, just watering bloody harder, cant see how the soil is dry, but moss giving very nice view for the pots

I was thinking to grow multiple on one pole & didn't know if 3-4 is too much & you answered that XD
I've seen people planting multiple plants in the soil of the same pot, but I prefer your way of putting the separate pots into the decorative planter. This way I can rearrange anytime as they grow at different rates and also easier to manage if any pests or issues with one plant.

How are you going with watering your Moss poles this year? I am finding in this winter in Sydney, because it has been colder, I have had the heat on more and my moss poles are drying out every day, even the plastic backed ones.
I even resorted to putting some wettex in the water I use in order to try and keep the Moss poles from drying out.
I don’t think we’ve had such a cold winter in 15 or 20 years. I’m on the other side of the bridge to you so your conditions could be different. Any tips on Managing the poles with heating?
Also, I have a beautiful Albo Borsigiana that is reaching the top of its first Moss pole. Would you recommend me extending the moss pole now or propagating it first and then having a thicker pole with multiple cuttings on it? In some ways I want to wait, but I’m worried if I lose the Plant (for whatever reason) I might regret not having propagated from it.
Any advice you can provide would be welcome.
Hey :) my humidity is still relatively high around 50-60% even with the heating (I have lots of plants ...) so haven't noticed them drying out any quicker than usual :) try using a higher frequency of watering but use less volume so u don't drown the pot :) Regarding the albo, that is totally personal preference :) and no need to be concerned, as the plant is growing into the pole, it's already air-layered so you'll have great propagation success whenever u decide to chop :)
@@sydneyplantguythanks Jan. I have been giving them about a cupful every day I don’t want the roots in the pole to die on me.
And the albo is rooting nicely into the pole so I will just extend for the moment and prop it in spring.

I keep meaning to ask, can you do a video at some point regarding the few climbers you have that you DON’T chop and extend? What are your techniques for those? If you’ve already done this then I apologize, I’m a fairly new subscriber and haven’t come across that video yet 😊

Hi there from Canada thanks for your great videos speaking of change. Have you ever moved a plant to one area and left it for a while to see how it would do and if it grew really smaller leaves and longer pedials if you moved it back to a brighter spot would it then change and correct itself or would it continue to be spaced out and laggy if that makes sense can you correct the problem or would you have to chop it, thanks

Philodendron spendid has huge Internodal spacing for me…. Do we have different specimens? Would love to see the Internodal spacing vs leaf size on yours. Mine grows so fast and needs chop and extends quite frequently
It featured in one of my recent videos .... could be that in ur the verrucosum parentage is stronger or it's not getting enough light. Maturity also reduces the internodal spacing.

Looking at some of your plants and they are so tall with gigantic leaves, they look very top-heavy, especially when I see the size of the pot they're in.
Have you ever had a pot fall over due to its weight?
Only when I was moving house & moved the plants from one place to the other (I had to take them out of the heavy decorative planters for that)
Have you ever considered branching out your business to be a plant/grow light decor consultant?
My Imposter syndrome would never allow me to do that :D

I bet if you got one or two of your plant shop owning friends to pass out a business card here and there it would happen.
Sort of like your channel. You started small without aspirations of it becoming your main source of income, but look at where it got you eventually!

There is nothing worse than people who proudly display their sick unhealthy plants. I have been to a few homes like this & vowed & declared I would never do that. I would much rather have none. But I was lucky I had a mother who always knew how to care for plants so that probably gave me a bit of a head start (unknowingly when you are young) but it gives me great joy when visitors say to me it’s not just all the plants I have but that they say they all look healthy! 😂😂 It’s been wonderful seeing this wave of enthusiasm come back to indoor plants by the younger generation but they have lifted it up another couple of notches 👍👍
