After speaking with the devs, I've learned a few more things! Gray Zone is planned to be a premium title, NOT free to play, and is not necessarily an extraction shooter. The gameplay loop seems to be tied much more on the PvE element of completing missions/objectives in the area with the possibility of running into players. Very much like a more realistic FPS version of Ghost Recon Wildlands/Breakpoint. Honestly happy to hear it isn't just an extraction EFT clone!

The scene where they enter a wooden shack, the book on the table says: Roadside Picnic. Its the book from which the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games are based off. That might also explain the intoxication and radiation stats on the characters inventory screen. Really curious to see what will influence these stats. Will we see some artifacts and anomalys??? Who knows! But I really like that it looks like Tarkov is finally getting some competition. It might push Battlestate Games to finally speed up their slow development.
It is gonna be so funny if this game utilizes toxicity and radiation before tarkov does. :D
I think BSG has big corruption issues... Andrei Tarkovsky would be ashamed of the theft of his name for a russian game, that only purpose it was to kill ukranian S.T.A.L.K.E.R-Games. He died in France for a reason. I think Nikitas balls are in Putins hands, just like the devs of Stalcraft, Atomic Heart and Pioner...

Jungle environments are rarely present in most shooter games.
And most important, outside of Vietnam or Pacific shooters, looks nice imo

If they tighten up the sounds and gunplay, this could be what Wildlands should've been all along. Vibe wise atleast. Would prefer that over some looter shooter or extraction bullshit. I have Tarkov for that.

Tarkov is fun but tbh it sucks, the desync, consistent bugs, shit audio, broken ai.. it's fun bc it's the only thing like it.

Ex Czech special forces guys and shooters community somehow participated on process of making this game. You can see those small but specific details - like changing mag in 11:48 with your thumb pointing into magazine well - good help for nigh/low light ops. You know where your you are leading your new mag. In 1:57 on podium, here is one good guy standing, ex SF guy.
The detail in that gives me hope.
As a medic, I think this is first game I’ve seen that has a realistic SAM splint for splinting. I wonder what else is in that med kit.
I'm here for it. Hardcore open world PVPVE is a dream.
Let’s hope they put as much attention into the PvE aspect of this game, and not just into the PVP.
PvE must not ever be an afterthought, because BSG did that with the Scav ai and it’s literally insulting to me as a stalker fan, to see once again ai treated as nothing more than a joke and to be a loot pinata or an artificial difficulty check for the players.
STALKERs A-life system should be the industry standard for Open world AI, in which NPC’s are treated as equals to players in that they can heal, loot, shoot, move, think, trade, ally, negotiate and value their own self preservation.
just a quick thing the play area is said to be 42 km squared, not 42x42km that would be way larger. The map seems be around 6-7x6-7 km, hope this clears it up a little (edit: Still looks great tho)
Not being a dick, but it would be 42 square kilometers. 42km squared is the same thing as 42x42km. 6km * 7km would be 42 square km

42km2 != 42km x 42km but rather 6.5km x 6,5km.
Also, the original Operation Flashpoint Everon map was 51km2 I belive, so smaller than that. But still, if the level of graphics is this detailed on 42km2 it's not that important. :)

The writing on the archway is Laos but in Thai font, although I find that weird as the dev says the game is set in Laos environment, but both our country are stuck together so I guess it's not too far fetch to see that. The blue sign is standard Laos though
Note: I transliterated the writing in to Thai because I don't have a Laos keyboard, but they're definitely Laos. I just think that's good enough since some our languages are so similar😅

It's a crazy time we live in where pre-alpha footage is blowing away full release footage of games from only a few short years ago! What a time to be a gamer, even an old dude like myself is hyped for what's to come.
The saddest part is when these games come out and are missing 85% of the stuff shown in the pre-alpha footage. And then the game looks like it was from 10 years ago riddled with major bugs
As a native Thai speaker, I would say the exact location of the setting is pretty hard to pin down. At 15:06 the signs are clearly in Thai, the blue sign simply says “welcome” and the gate says “Sin Kan village” which is actually a real name of a village in western Thailand, neighboring Myanmar. However, the signs at 20:27 is possibly Cambodian, which is on a completely different end of the country. So the setting may let you drop all over mainland SEA or it may be a Hollywood hodgepodge of different cultures the dev finds exotic.
The environment looks authentic though, definitely can smell a mix of fresh and dry grasses and tin walls (also the sun, the bloody SUN) just like when I was on a trip to the countryside. The devs clearly took a walk in those places themselves, like they should.
How long is both those cities from each other?
Also the entire country might be scaled down for the game. So it can look like the country but still be payable.

Its a good thing if Tarkov gets some competition maybe helps both game. I'm a bit afraid of the open world if it will be full open but one thing you said multiple times is the 42km by 42km size I think that is wrong, it was written as 42km2 (squared) which is something like 6km by 7km(or in some other setup) which is much more playable.
Tarkov needs a legit competition.
I'm hoping this will get bsg off their lazy bums and make their game better. I need this game to be the catalyst to tarkovs improvement. I also hope this game will actually be good too.
I need that tactical shooter itch scratched tarkov doesn't do it for me anymore with all those hackers.

I am super hyped to explore a Southeast Asia setting, this is my favourite type of setting for a game. I have never played Tarkov, even though I have been thinking about it for a while now.

Dang, MADFINGER ? They’re actually a solid mobile developer and have made some great mobile games 👍 ShadowGun : Legends is sick and is pretty much mobile Destiny. Got high hopes for their transition into something bigger. Looks like it could be good. Animations are looking pretty dope so far, that’s for sure.
they were, they announced some months before they stopped doing mobile games completely, I'm happy at least it turned out into a project that can really show the talent of the guys at madfinger
Roadside picnic is the book that Stalker was sort of based on.
Looking at the scenes, they are likely leveraging PCG in UE5 - very powerful for setting up environments quickly.
you made a great point on different biomes! I play insurgency sandstorm for my little MIL SIM but the maps deff needed more love. Modded maps are the go to!

even their mobile games were the shit, you can see the guys made some great work seeing Dead Trigger 1 running on tegra 3 at the launch, it was damn beautiful for a mobile game 10 years ago

Something I'd love to see is shuffling the deck with mags, where if I fire 10 rounds and reload, I put on a fresh mag it puts the semi used mag into my webbing and I have to come back to it later. Ontop of this bombing up the mags by hand or with stripper clips would be awesome.

@@JohnDoeTheSaint I've been playing the new gateway map of The Isle, which is a jungle island multiplayer map with 100 players plus ai. I got a 5 almost 6 year old CPU and it barely breaks a sweat. There's a reason Karmakut and Other game reviewers aren't worried about CPU and GPU issues. It's called optimization, and engines like unreal and cryengine do a very good job optimizing their maps. Learn and think before ranting, come pinga.
@@JohnDoeTheSaintI can tell you, I know a developer and have seen the game running in the editor on a pretty old PC and it really is pretty smooth. Madfinger has tons of experience with optimizing games from making high quality mobile games (really, look at Shadowgun legends). So I wouldn't be so pessimistic
Personally, i like the depth of field on the sight. As long as its an option to toggle on/off, everyones happy, same as motion blur
about the "new" biome - it really reminds me of the ArmA 3 Tanoa map, which was awesome to play for example at night with rain or just in general

I can’t get over the terrible red dot view. That’s not what it looks like to look through them, nobody puts their eye that close and it doesn’t occlude nearly so much.
The map really gives me flashbackes to the arma 3 map Tanoa from the Apex DLC.
Wishlisted so freaking hard, hopefully it comes to fruition, sadly too many of these games get lost in the eternal loop between pre-release and staying early release forever.
The only thing I can't stand about modern tactical shooters is that they always launch into early access, multiplayer is always prioritized over singleplayer and there's hardly ever friendly AI that you can command. All I want is a tactical shooter that resembles the ones I grew up playing like Operation Flashpoint and Ghost Recon. Ones that are full releases on day one, without the need to go into early access which means they're rich with content to play. If it isn't a 1.0 release and it doesn't have singleplayer then I'm not interested
The problem is the cost of making a game has inflated massively. As much as I also hate the route many go to drip feed content just to drag out the process, I am perfectly fine with developers using the early access status as a means for actually testing the game. The more pressing issues imo are optimization and the hyper focus on high end hardware rather than middle of the line builds.

My one gripe about tarkov was how tanky people could be with armor I was not a fan of how armor and ballistic damage was implemented.
Unfortunately BSG favors gameplay over realism these days, you really need mods to make gunplay actually semi-realistic

around 21:50 when talking about the gun recoil, it's got some weird thing going on where it seems like the rear of the gun is what's moving left and right, where that should be anchored against your shoulder with your cheek welded to the stock and the muzzle should be what's moving. You also see it at 22:27 where the rear iron's blatantly move left. Definitely feels not just bouncy and meh, but straight up wrong. edit: I also don't like seeing into the tube of the optic, I haven't personally used an aimpoint T-1 but it looks bad to me.

I agree. I think it's really cool to see some jungle combat biome. That's great in and of itself. You already said my biggest fear, a mobile game company, has, by nature, a super predatory monetization model. I'm just always a little nervous when I hear mobile gane Company. we are getting "pay to win." Mechanics. Looks really pretty. If that's an actal game, play footage. I don't mind a tarkov style thing. Worse things can happen.

question to anyone who's willing to answer. i don't know if i'm the only one who think about this thing but, instead of making another tactical looter shooter game, why don't any developer try making, a tactical shooter battle royale game? it will be more mainstream, because it doesn't have the risk that looter shooter have, where you lost all your gear if you die in a match, so the frustration of loosing is too real, cause now you have to bought another weapon, without that element,you could potentially attracted casual fps player to, cause it's a battle royale tactical shooter game so, that risk is not there. so they might get a bigger player base to.
