The Tracks 2019 Ride Guide Mentawais presented by AirAsia: Our tropical test-pilots Tyler Warren, Robbie Rickard, Kolton Sullivan and Todd Rosewall, carved, slashed and trimmed their way across a plethora of set-ups, riding surfboards crafted by 20 of Australia’s best shapers. Each evening, the crew would summarise their findings while re-hydrating on the splendid drinking deck that overlooks the water at John’s Place. Thanks to our experienced guide, Cahn, we scored different waves every day, subjecting the shapes to a range of different situations. By the end of the trip, the boards were like new best friends and John’s Place had become a Nirvana we never wanted to leave.
The reviews are intended to point you in the right direction when it comes to making your next investment in foam and fibreglass. "My favorite thing about it is the color." Bit of a backhanded compliment. Not sure Chris would appreciate that one. But then...Tyler is a shaper. As a shaper, it's difficult to absolutely love a board that you haven't shaped yourself. I know that when I get on another shapers board that I find flaws more often than not. Only once or twice have I ridden a board that I didn't shape, and was truly impressed at the performance. There is always that thought that you have made one better. But really it's better for...whom? It's in your mind. The shaper is connected to the craft he makes. Therefore it seems to work better. Maybe not the best idea to have a shaper critique the craft of another shaper. Even one as mellow as Tyler. Especially if they are in same space competing for business.

I don’t think Tyler warren is a prick. I think he is very thoughtful and cool. Helpful to other shapers and talented. I’ve bought some of his artwork as well. I have also owned Christenson surfboards. Also a true talent...if anyone is a bit prickly...might be Christenson. In an okay grumpy way.
