Wonderful performance of a wonderful repertoire. And, personally, a big discovery to hear, for the first time, polyphonic music sung in hebrew!
Thank you for sharing such beautiful work!

I came to this video after reading about Salamone Rossi and Leon Modena, a musical celebrity in Mantua at the time, working together on this piece, in a book called Shylock's Venice by Harry Freedman. Technology can be wonderful -- I didn't just have to wonder what this music sounded like, I could go to RUclips and there it is! Thank you for this performance and for posting it.

I knew Rossi has experimented with polyphonic Jewish sacred music in Hebrew, but never listened to it before.
While I think this style of music better suits and integrates with Latin (and the rest of the Jewish community actually preferred keeping in line with the tradition and still sing in psalmody), nonetheless it's an interesting listening.

I've played this over and over - a lovely piece of music that has made me listen to the Hebrew. Thanks for the subtitles. I love the hashkivenu - especially the final perfect cadence at the end as a sublime ending.

Looked up your edition of Psalm 8 on CPDL - are you singing this about a minor 3rd down from that one? Finding the soprano part more comfortable, and the alto part lower, than I expected :)

I should add that, strangely, the music as such wasn't even written from right to left, something I never quite understood...
