And there's already a remote play app for the PS4 and 5, it felt pretty much useless to release such a thing when you could pretty much replicate it with a regular controller connected to your phone, and your phone connected to the ps5

Been doing exactly what you said every day for the last couple weeks after I remembered that app existed. It works great for games that don’t require very fast reactions. Trying to parry an attack or something like that can be quite difficult.
I wish it was a Wii U gamepad. That thing had a DIRECT connection to the console with now pixelations, drops, and latency. This thing has all that so I refunded it lol

Don't even need to pay for online services like you do with Playstation. It actually is something I really want. Living essentially in two separate places for work and home through the week, attempting to play my ps5 on remote play over iPad wasn’t viable realistically for many of my games. However, this solves my problem. It’s a niche product, and I imagine, given the lifestyle in Japan where people are barely home, it makes more commercial sense there then it does in western countries where we live culturally different lives.
I'm going to guess it was easier to get past regulatory approval by putting in the setting than explaining to governments how dumb it should be to need it for the device, though I guess some fool will pack a PS5 in their carry on with this and a try to find a way to power it at some point.

Uses: 1) Another controller with a screen 2) Amazing to play if your on the toilet 3) If your mum or dad tell you to go outside and touch grass you can bring it into the garden 4) Displayed ready to collect dust on the shelf

Nah. Even hacked, this would be a waste of money. The hardware itself is a complete scam. $20 controller, $10 screen and $5 main board sold for $200. It's not powerful enough to do anything but streaming, so at most hacking it will give you streaming from PC, which you can already do with a phone.
This has very barebones specs and no onboard storage, you'll probably get someone running doom on it on the future but don't expect much more than that
Wii U concept was just a big DS. One screen was TV while the other on gamepad. Instead, developers used both screens to show the same image for when the tv was being used.

if your ps5 is connected to the internet even in rest mode, you can use the Portal from anywhere. go on vacation, just pack the Portal. as long as the ps5 is connected you're good

Honestly since getting it I use it more than just the ps5 alone. Also there are cheaper alternatives but none in this form factor with a dual sense.
Its pretty much a wireless remote controller. Its for on the go people and for people that want to game else where. It has its niche, but definitely its a niche.
Could be something they expand on in the future maybe this is the early stages of a portable device but yeah it doesn’t serve much of a purpose for most currently.
Got it on launch day, you really do need lightning fast internet to even try to play it and also the input lag is just something I can’t get around, this will be collecting dust in my closet until they are a niche dead forgotten retro device that will sell double on eBay in 10 years

I agree that it will be coming, but at this point in time it seems like a baseline expectation that it should be able to do this at launch. There are many ways to stream games, and for this to be an appealing one, it should at least be able to STREAM games without a PS5 nearby. Nobody buys this thing and expects it to be a steamdeck. And even if someone does, its on them. Advertising is pretty clear here from Sony.

Don't even need to pay for online services like you do with Playstation. With the portal you need to be connected to your own PS5 on the same WiFi network and can only play your PS games, no access to anything else at all.

It actually is something I really want. Living essentially in two separate places for work and home through the week, attempting to play my ps5 on remote play over iPad wasn’t viable realistically for many of my games. However, this solves my problem.
It’s a niche product, and I imagine, given the lifestyle in Japan where people are barely home, it makes more commercial sense there then it does in western countries where we live culturally different lives.

Proper handheld systems would be the PSP and PSVita, which are nearly 2 decades old at this point (PSVita is around 12 years old).
Uses:
1) Another controller with a screen
2) Amazing to play if your on the toilet
3) If your mum or dad tell you to go outside and touch grass you can bring it into the garden
4) Displayed ready to collect dust on the shelf

You’d connect your Sony Vita to the PS4, and use it as a controller, replicating the whole dual screen setup. Very few games supported it, but yeah, it existed.

Nah. Even hacked, this would be a waste of money. The hardware itself is a complete scam. $20 controller, $10 screen and $5 main board sold for $200.
It's not powerful enough to do anything but streaming, so at most hacking it will give you streaming from PC, which you can already do with a phone.
This has very barebones specs and no onboard storage, you'll probably get someone running doom on it on the future but don't expect much more than that
Wii U concept was just a big DS. One screen was TV while the other on gamepad. Instead, developers used both screens to show the same image for when the tv was being used.

if your ps5 is connected to the internet even in rest mode, you can use the Portal from anywhere. go on vacation, just pack the Portal. as long as the ps5 is connected you're good

Honestly since getting it I use it more than just the ps5 alone. Also there are cheaper alternatives but none in this form factor with a dual sense.
Its pretty much a wireless remote controller. Its for on the go people and for people that want to game else where. It has its niche, but definitely its a niche.

That's a lie, or the hotel you're staying at has terrible wifi. I'm in the Caribbean while my PS5 is in California. Connected perfectly to the hotel wifi. A little buffering and boom, it's up and working perfectly.

@@rupedogg24 Most hotels tend to have a browser page you have to accept terms at when you connect to their wifi network before you can actually use it for anything else. If the hotel's wifi requires that authentication and the device has no browser, then it effectively cant use the wifi

For the price and the fact that everywhere has Wi-Fi it’s not bad, even using the hotspot on my phone works great with it.
You have to be on the same Wi-Fi as the PS5 though. So being on another network doesn't do anything.

Personally, I'm sticking to my phone and controller while at work as I do not use remote play enough to make it worth me having

I agree that it will be coming, but at this point in time it seems like a baseline expectation that it should be able to do this at launch. There are many ways to stream games, and for this to be an appealing one, it should at least be able to STREAM games without a PS5 nearby. @@uraworld6247you don’t need a ps5 nearby though it works on any Wi-Fi network (as long as it’s strong enough). I don’t have it yet so I can’t say for sure but I believe it will be a relatively clean experience as I’m currently 42 miles from home and using remote play seamlessly.
