A friend of mine saw the PS portal and also thought it was a new handheld device after the PS VITA. I had to tell him what it actually was and well needless to say, I could feel his sadness and disappointment.

I wish it was a Wii U gamepad. That thing had a DIRECT connection to the console with now pixelations, drops, and latency. This thing has all that so I refunded it lol

It actually is something I really want. Living essentially in two separate places for work and home through the week, attempting to play my ps5 on remote play over iPad wasn’t viable realistically for many of my games. However, this solves my problem. It’s a niche product, and I imagine, given the lifestyle in Japan where people are barely home, it makes more commercial sense there then it does in western countries where we live culturally different lives.
as a father of infants and a husband of a wife who loves reality tv - this is actually high up on my wishlist. They all watch alot of tv, so if i had this - i could casually play games on the sofa while they use the tv (watching rubbish i dont want to watch). not sure its worth the full price though so waiting to find a good value price

I have a Silver PSP 3000 with a custom firmware and it’s awesome. All I have to do is hook it to my computer and I can sideload as many games as will fit on my Memory Stick.
I'm a consider that somewhere on the box it says, in very tiny fine print (something no one ever reads), "requires a PS5 to use." However, you might be on to something, none gamer parents might think it's like a Switch Lite and think "well my kids want a PS5 but i can't afford to shell out over $500 at the moment, but this PS5 Portal is only $200, I'll get them that."

Its pretty much a wireless remote controller. Its for on the go people and for people that want to game else where. It has its niche, but definitely its a niche.
And there's already a remote play app for the PS4 and 5, it felt pretty much useless to release such a thing when you could pretty much replicate it with a regular controller connected to your phone, and your phone connected to the ps5

You can literally just get on the remote play app from your phone and connect a ps4 or ps5 controller and play from anywhere as long as your PlayStation is on or in rest mode. Save your money!!
Yup! My department hasn’t had any work for the last two months but I still have to come in for some reason.. Been doing exactly what you said every day for the last couple weeks after I remembered that app existed. It works great for games that don’t require very fast reactions. Trying to parry an attack or something like that can be quite difficult.
modding that thing wont give you anything, its a streaming device, that doesnt need decent hardware, a simple 10 year old CPU could handle it, but for proper use of homebrew would be your phone a better option @@miguelon9682
It’s basically a “I want to play ps5 but I don’t want to get out of bed” or My girl wants to wants to hang out and watch her shows and I want to game” device. Honestly since getting it I use it more than just the ps5 alone. Also there are cheaper alternatives but none in this form factor with a dual sense.
I'm going to guess it was easier to get past regulatory approval by putting in the setting than explaining to governments how dumb it should be to need it for the device, though I guess some fool will pack a PS5 in their carry on with this and a try to find a way to power it at some point.

Don't even need to pay for online services like you do with Playstation. Uses: 1) Another controller with a screen 2) Amazing to play if your on the toilet 3) If your mum or dad tell you to go outside and touch grass you can bring it into the garden 4) Displayed ready to collect dust on the shelf

Nah. Even hacked, this would be a waste of money. The hardware itself is a complete scam. $20 controller, $10 screen and $5 main board sold for $200. It's not powerful enough to do anything but streaming, so at most hacking it will give you streaming from PC, which you can already do with a phone.
This has very barebones specs and no onboard storage, you'll probably get someone running doom on it on the future but don't expect much more than that
Wii U concept was just a big DS. One screen was TV while the other on gamepad. Instead, developers used both screens to show the same image for when the tv was being used.

Wii U gamepad had a direct connection the the console giving us a lagless experience. This thru g uses the internet… it was so bad I refunded in a day 😞
The #1 downside for me is not being able to play media apps on it. I bought this for my husband and i successfully was able to connect out of our home wifi
A lot of people compare it to the wii u gamepad, but at least the game pad had games made around it like Nintendo land, I actually can think of a use for this, because ether you don't have internet, are already home or would be doing something else
The portal *is* basically an android tablet. There was a leak where a factory worker showed it running android. So yeah you could hack it and boot up a regular android OS. Idk why you would want to do that though - it's basically a glorified aliexpress tablet in terms of specs. No emulator realistically would work well with it tbh.

Honestly since getting it I use it more than just the ps5 alone. Also there are cheaper alternatives but none in this form factor with a dual sense.

Don't even need to pay for online services like you do with Playstation. With the portal you need to be connected to your own PS5 on the same WiFi network and can only play your PS games, no access to anything else at all.

You’d connect your Sony Vita to the PS4, and use it as a controller, replicating the whole dual screen setup. Very few games supported it, but yeah, it existed.

Nah. Even hacked, this would be a waste of money. The hardware itself is a complete scam. $20 controller, $10 screen and $5 main board sold for $200.
It's not powerful enough to do anything but streaming, so at most hacking it will give you streaming from PC, which you can already do with a phone.
This has very barebones specs and no onboard storage, you'll probably get someone running doom on it on the future but don't expect much more than that
Wii U concept was just a big DS. One screen was TV while the other on gamepad. Instead, developers used both screens to show the same image for when the tv was being used.

The portal *is* basically an android tablet. There was a leak where a factory worker showed it running android.
So yeah you could hack it and boot up a regular android OS.
Idk why you would want to do that though - it's basically a glorified aliexpress tablet in terms of specs. No emulator realistically would work well with it tbh.
