  • In this Episode of Cruising Off Duty, I give a rundown of the DJI Go 4 App. It is the latest App designed specifically to fly the more advanced drones on the market from DJI, such as the Mavic Pro, Phantom 4, Phantom 4 Pro, Aspire 2 and Aspire Pro. All these drones have accident avoidance sensors and camera that can have different focal distances. This software takes advantage of these extra features.
    I will give a comprehensive tutorial of all the setting and what should be turned on and what should be left off along with what camera setting give your drone smoother flying characteristics for smoother video production.
    Leave a comment if there is any area you would like me to cover in upcoming episodes and if you enjoyed the video please take the time to give it a thumbs up. It helps the channel to grow. Stay tuned by subscribing to the Cruising Off Duty Channel.
    If you are interested in buying a Mavic Pro or any other item on Amazon, please visit one of the following links that will take you to Amazon. Once you enter Amazon from one of these links, the channel gets a small percent referral fee of anything you buy after that, even if it is not one of the products you originally were linked to. Anything you buy is credited. Think of it this way, if you are going to buy something from Amazon anyway, why not get there by an affiliate link? That way instead of Amazon taking all the money, you allow a little bit of that money to go to supporting a channel you like. Hopefully this one. I buy most of my equipment on Amazon as they usually have the best prices. Obviously I can't use my own referral links, so when I do buy, I use referral links of other RUclipsrs I like to make sure they can keep bringing me episodes I enjoy. It does not cost you a penny more, but it helps support the channel. Thanks in advance if you do use a link.

    Wow. Thanks so much. Learnt more in one 25 minute video than in hours browsing the internet. Really appreciate your time and effort. Just got my MP, setting out for my first flight now. Feel a little more confident. Fingers crossed all goes well a d the rain holds off.

      That is awesome Fireyorks. I am sure you are going to love your Mavic. It is a great drone and pretty stable and easy to fly even for a beginner.

    Amazing walk through of the DJI Go App for a beginner, there are so much settings that you sometimes loose track in what is what and what is where, nice explained without being to technical or nerdy :D so big thumbs up!

    Thanks Craig. You explained several things that seem to be completely absent from the DJI manuals. I'm sure that experienced flyers like yourself have great familiarity with them as do the authors of new manuals at DJI. I am a new pilot and have not ever flown a drone before. I'm taking it very slow with my Mavic Pro. I've poured over the documentation. I'll fly it for about 10 minutes, then review the logs, manuals and youtube videos for hours, sometimes days before turning it back on again. Videos like this clear a lot of the mystery. Thanks for taking the time to video, edit, and produce such an informative video. It is much appreciated.

    That was great, I learnt a few things even through I've been through it quite a few times so thank you! One thing to note is on the batteries, the discharge time is actually how long will the battery wait until it starts to discharge, not how long it will take to discharge. Might be a wording thing but if as you had it, it is set to 10 days then the battery will remain at full state charge for 10 days and then start to discharge to around 75 (ish) percent.
    Also, again on batteries, I have four so I number them and use them in rotation 1-4 so that they all get equal use and the number of charges on them is pretty equal otherwise you risk having batteries that sit charged or semi charged and not used which is less than ideal. The app is good for checking the number of charges and the cell values which should be almost exactly the same across all three cells.

    • @Bowmans-Woods
      @Bowmans-Woods  7 лет назад

      Thanks Matt. I do number my batteries on the back and I do plan to rotate my batteries and use the App to confirm that each battery has been charged the same amount of time. Thanks for suggesting that for others who read this.

    Nothing more terrifying to me than launching 1000 dollars into the air for the first time particularly watching it take control over itself in the RTH mode. Thanks for making this fear more manageable. Subscriber for life!

    • @Bowmans-Woods
      @Bowmans-Woods  6 лет назад

      RTH usually brings your drone back to fairly close to where you take off. I often take control of it once it is close because I also am not as confident it will not land on an uneven spot. But it getting close is perfect.

      Ha ha . That should be interesting. Wouldn't it be easier to just store your Mavic in a waterproof case or bag and then beach your Kayak and take off and land from shore? Then move on to another scenic spot and do the same thing instead of towing a handing pad? Have fun with the new Mavic either way and Thanks for watching.

    Thanks so much for making the video. It is very helpful. I believe there is a mistake when you are taking about white balance and setting it using the custom option. You are setting using kelvin and this only affect the color temperature of what you are recording. It doesn't effect the exposure as you are saying in your video. Using custom you are able to make it warmer or cooler but it has no effect on exposure settings (making it brighter or darker).
    Thanks, Chris

      @Bowmans-Woods  7 лет назад

      Hey Roger. Thanks so much! I know you are in Canada but I can't recall if you are actually in Ottawa?I think I recall you may live in Orleans? If so, now that you have your Mavic, we should go flying together.

      @RogerC68 7 лет назад

      Hey Craig, yes I am from your area and easy to forget because you have soo many fans responding to every video you post that it's hard to keep track. I have been on a lot of channels over the years and cannot recall there being soo many responses in such a short amount of time to videos posted, and with the response time of the poster! That is definitely a GOOD sign on where this channel is going. I am originally from Windsor Ontario and my parents moved to Buckingham, QC when I was young. Currently living in Gatineau. Remember your wife and mine worked in the same department a few years ago? Yes for sure that would be fun to go flying together. I am still at the stage of trusting my monitor and tend to be unsure how close I am to objects, which I am sure is normal for newbies. PM me when you are free and if I am off the same day we can meet up. Search your gmail for roger@mcc and you will find our earlier correspondence.

      Thanks. I do try to respond to everyone's comments on here. I want it to feel like a community of friends that can share and learn from each other. I am learning the Mavic as I go as well. I know we have emailed before but I was in Mid "respond to comments" mode on here, so I didn't get out to go read my email to confirm where you lived. I remembered it was close. It must be another emailer who lives in Orleans. Maybe as the weather gets a bit warmer we can arrange a Mavic Meet locally with a bunch of people who have contacted me who live around Ottawa. That would be fun and make for an interesting episode.

      Yes, that sounds great, count me in!! When is your trip again in February? Looking forward to your Mavic videos from the catamaran and curious how the taking off and landing is going to work out. You know how we should learn the mistakes of others and not repeat them?! Well, I tried Ati mood in my mother's living room, which she has a fair sized one, and of course, things went wrong! :-) In trying to stop it I forgot about the emergency motor shut down option and trying to catch it,,, note: NOT a good idea,,, haha almost took my finger off and cut my mom's ankles in two places. We men have to try anyway :-)

    Thanks for an excellent & informative video. In the Sensor section you mention that, "I don't know why anyone would ever want to turn these off." Actually, there is a good reason to turn off the downward facing sensors if you fly low over water (less than 15 feet). Take a look a some of the DJI Forums for a full explanation, but the gist of it is that reflections from the water can confuse the downward sensors causing erratic changes in altitude that are a known cause of lost drones! Please check it out since it seems you do a lot of flying over water. All the best and thanks again.

    • @bigwhitechromebook6800
      @bigwhitechromebook6800 7 лет назад

      PS... I noticed it is mentioned below, but the color temperature setting does not really control the brightness of the scene. Rather it simply adjusts the overall hue of the scene from blue for very high high kelvin settings to yellow for very low color temp settings.

      Cruising Off Duty, yes I have managed to get out a little, temps being good the last few days but set to go colder after the weekend, the wind is causing trouble. Today is looking promising so far so hopefully out later and try the settings.

    • @Bowmans-Woods
      @Bowmans-Woods  7 лет назад +1

      It is tough here in Canada to get good flying conditions. It is either too freakin cold to enjoy flying (plus risk of drone freezing) or it is too windy for the gimbal to handle (since it is stiff from the cold). I can't wait until BVIs and then the spring. I am sick of winter!!!

    • @kazbleasdale1310
      @kazbleasdale1310 7 лет назад

      Not flown for days... the wind has been brutal and now it's getting colder. -17deg Celsius -27 with wind chill 😬 spring cannot come fast enough.

    • @Bowmans-Woods
      @Bowmans-Woods  7 лет назад +1

      Agreed. Now you see what I've been going through. Had big plans to do a lot more tutorial videos on the Mavic but most days I have off work have either been too cold or too windy. Flying in those conditions just isn't fun. If it wasn't for this channel forcing me to do it (at times) I would have probably flown a lot less.

  • @nheilweil

    Really great video - love the detail you go into! You may have addressed this already in comments but the return-to-home for the controller doesn’t dynamically update and fly the drone back to wherever you are. It sets it RTH at the position of the controller at the time you set it and doesn’t update after that.

    good tutorial but over exposure isnt the height of the peaks in the histogram it's when everything is crushed to the right, underexposure is when it is crushed to the left. Your snow wont overexpose at normal values as the camera makes it darker as it's done in your screen. if you look at the histogram there are no values at the last 1/3 to the right. If you want white snow to be white you generally have to overexpose by 2 stops -

    Hey Craig, Good tutorial overview. An idea for a future tutorial is on the different flight modes and how they all work (I know you covered waypoints).

    • @Bowmans-Woods
      @Bowmans-Woods  7 лет назад

      Hi JR. I was thinking about doing that but there are a ton of people that have already covered active track and the other modes. I guess I could put my own spin on it but with the weather here being so crappy for drone flying most days, it was hard to get out in the freezing temps and go over each flight mode. I wish the Mavic had come out in spring because then I could have been out every day flying in warm temps and I could have banged off a ton of vids on every mode. Sadly I think a lot of time has gone by and there are already a ton of videos showing the modes. When I am in the BVI in a month, I will get to fly a lot every day and perhaps among the more VLOG style of those episodes, I can use some of these modes and mention them during those episodes. Something for everyone. Sun and Sand for those that like that. Sailing for those that like that and of course a little Mavic info as I use it to show some beautiful aerial videography. Should be fun.

  • @chaibennett8464
    @chaibennett8464 6 лет назад

    what a great tutorial. but i do reckon we should not let the drone hrizontally avoid the obstacle because it do not have any obstacle avoidance stuff for the obstacles beside the drone. what the i reckon is just the drone will stop and you can make a choice manylly whether to increase the altitude or just fly around.

    Just an FYI Off Duty the D-Log and other camera mode options are for post processing and a more focused/specific result. Any time you let the camera edit you essentially cut yourself off at jpeg quality versus shooting in RAW for example.

    At 24:15 you change from 720p to 1080p resolution to the controller...You dont want to do that because it then makes you also record in 1080p...not 2.7k or 4k.......Mine actually says Normal Mode and HD Mode now instead of 720p or 1080p and you need it set in normal mode.

    • @Bowmans-Woods
      @Bowmans-Woods  7 лет назад +1

      Thanks a lot for that Scuba. As you saw I was shooting in 4K and then when I was in that setting I saw it had put me in 720p feed so I was not sure why that was so I switched it higher. Was not aware that it limited my recording quality. I will look into that and change it back if I find out I can no longer shoot at the higher settings because of that change. See, having a community on this channel where we can all learn from each other is exactly what I want. Thanks a ton for writing in.

    I'm like you a boat owner with a passion for drones. I wanna know your take on flying over water. I know DJ says not to but still i see it all the time. Question... Hi. Sadly. You fly over water and it crashes. It will sink. Chances are it will not work again. If u retrieve it and you have DJI refresh insurance it may be covered. The downward sensor does sense water but it senses it at as being ground. It does not realize it’s water. So if it goes to autoland it will try and land on the water which is bad. Good luck!

      +Cruising Off Duty So is there a setting that says don’t land but hover?

    • @Bowmans-Woods
      @Bowmans-Woods  6 лет назад

      No. It thinks water is solid. If it has an issue it will land.

  • @vhsopdvd
    @vhsopdvd 7 лет назад

    At 9:50 according to the manual you have to hover at a hight of at least 10 meters above the ground to enable precision landing.
    At 13:30 Color temperature has nothing to do with adjusting for brightness, when exposure is set to auto, it will still adjust.
    At 24:15 The 1080p mode is meant for the DJI goggles, also maximum video recording resolution is 2K7 in this mode AND video recording resolution is automaticly set to 1080p ! (It said so in the popup window you quickly pushed away)
    At 28:40 By enabling manual focus you get an onscreen slider to focus, tapping on the screen doesn't work in this mode.
    At 28:45 "Long Press" does not point to a button, but the screen.

      Thanks: I will cover your points in order. 1) I am just going by what I have found. When I hover 4-5' off the ground for 5 seconds I have been getting amazingly accurate RTH landing. Just giving what has worked for me. 2) I said Manual Colour temp if you set everything to manual (not auto) will keep it a set brightness (and I should have also said colour) to something uniform throughout all of you footage so that you can then colour correct for later if you find it's not perfect. 3) Good to know. I figured 1080 was just a crisper image that would then cycle down to 720 if you got farther away and the RC feed couldn't sustain that. I had heard that at 1080 you may not get the higher recording levels but I was not sure if that was the case since I had my recording level set to 4K and it allowed me to change it from 720 to 1080. If I lose the ability to shoot in 4K then I will know to switch it back to 720. 4) Yes, I have seen the slider for focus. I did not show that in this episode because it was already running long. I still believe that myself and most people, will not have need for autofocus so it will be left off. Most will find it a bit overwhelming to try and fly and concentrate on manually focussing the camera at the same time with a slider wheel. The tap to focus (using autofocus) works just fine so I am not sure why I'd want to take on Manual Focus. In a DSLR for still photos I will use Manual for close up subjects (ie a flower wanting Boca in the background) but a drone flying around at 100 feet away from a subject? Probably not.
      5) I was not sure what it was referring to in long press. I assumed it was referring to the buttons since that was in the RC section. Thanks for clearing that up if it meant pressing and holding the screen. Still seems like a feature most people won't use, flying while trying to press and hold a screen in the same spot? I don't think I'd use that.
      Anyway..... learned a few things from you. Thanks.

      Just like in still photography, in video photography manual focus is used to emphasize the portion of the composition that is not at the center, i.e., when the subject is not at the center of the composition. One use for MF that I can imagine is when hovering over an area but you want to emphasize an action or movement without composing so that it is at the center.

    Great Info. One question that I have been looking for answers and may make a good video for you is that DJI recommends you drain your batteries every 3 months and then recharge them (Deep cycle Drain) and to keep them at 50 -60% when in storage but know where I can find is how to totally drain your batteries without flying the drone until it is completely out of juice which would not be a good thing. I have found a device online called the Phantom Angel but it is $90 and I could buy a battery for that. So I thought a video on battery maintenance might be good one for you to create. :)

    • @Bowmans-Woods
      @Bowmans-Woods  7 лет назад

      Thanks Jeremy. As for your question: The batteries are smart batteries so I saw in the setting that there is a setting that says "10 days to discharge". Im not sure on this but it may mean that the "Smart Battery" may actually be keeping track of how long it has sat unused with a full charge and auto discharge after 10 days. That may be why that shows up in the settings.
      Even if it doesn't mean that, I think it only hurts your battery if you are alway fully charging the batteries and then just storing them on the shelf for longer periods of time. Best idea in my mind is (if you know you wont be flying your drone for a while) is on the last day of flying just fly them around until they are dead and then store them dead until the next time you are ready to fly and then give them that full charge to recycle them. Even if it is inclement and you don't have the time to fly around for 3 batteries (Like I have) you can just slap a battery in your drone and turn it on and just leave it sitting in your house, turned on, until the battery dies. Then store them like that.
      I really haven't been worrying about storing my batteries fully charged because (for this channel) I have been flying my drone a lot. But I get your point. You should drain your batteries fully and recharge them from time to time to keep them healthy. Thanks for writing.

    • @jeremyclark4563
      @jeremyclark4563 7 лет назад

      The setting inside DJI GO from the research I have done is how long the battery waits until it begins discharging to the recommended storage state recommended by DJI. For example, if you put your fully charged battery in your case and have that setting on 3 days (like I put mine due to research) after 3 days the battery will begin to discharge at a slow rate until it is 50% - 60% capacity (the recommended storage capacity per DJI). I was just hoping there was an easier way to cycle the batteries instead of letting my $1000 drone sit there idle through 3 batteries but I cannot find this information anywhere except for a device called the Phantom Angel phantomangel.rocks/ but I really don't want to spend $90 to do this but it may be the best bet.

    • @Bowmans-Woods
      @Bowmans-Woods  7 лет назад

      I agree. You have good information there. Its seems the batteries self discharge if not used. I will probably just leave my drone on to bring them down if I have to. I can't see myself spending $90 US just for something to drain my battery down faster. The Mavic batteries are fairly inexpensive so if over time they start to lose their longevity I will just buy new ones. Or a new better drone will come along (Mavic 2) and the Mavic will end up like my Q500. On a shelf being being a momento. Nostalgia. One day down the road I will have shelves of every drone I have owned to look back at. :-)

      @daisypatritio5413 6 лет назад

      According to p.12 of the 2017.11 edition of the manual, once idle for 10 days the batteries will self-discharge over a period of 2 days to about 65% -- this is to prevent swelling, and they may become warm while discharging.

    I love how small the Mavic is -- that's the main reason I bought it. But it makes no sense that DJI made the controller so small. If the controller was, say, 20% larger, would it still be relatively "small?" Of course it would!
    DJI makes this great app with all kinds of info and histograms and maps on the screen (if you choose) and they expect you to look at all this stuff on a 5.5" screen or smaller. Otherwise you need to jam in your bigger phone or use a tablet sideways.

    • @Bowmans-Woods
      @Bowmans-Woods  7 лет назад +2

      Ya. I agree. They could have made the Controller just a bit bigger to hold a full sized tablet. Oh well. I bought an extra attachment to allow for my full sized tablet. Not pretty, but it works.

    • @RogerC68
      @RogerC68 7 лет назад

      This is my first drone so I do not have any experience using drones with larger controllers, I feel the smaller size of the Mavic should equal the controller to maximize the ease of transporting them both. I have been interested in drones for a few years and what discouraged me from purchasing one was the size of them. I am an amateur photographer and often carrying many different sizes of lenses and find myself discouraged at times with how large the longer focal length lenses are. With the Mavic and the controllers size I imagine I will find it hard to be discouraged from carrying both in such a small package. My opinion only guys!

    • @Bowmans-Woods
      @Bowmans-Woods  7 лет назад +1

      Hey Rogers. Yes I assume Mavic was going for the feature of ultra portability, which is also why I bought the Mavic instead of sticking with my Q500, which I already owned and had bought multiple batteries and accessories for. I love the small size of the Mavic controller when it is folded up. Just wish that the fold out arms went just a bit wider so I could fit a full sized tablet in. But it is a very minor issue since it can be easily fixed with the tablet attachment or by buying a smaller tablet like a Ipad Mini. Overall I am very happy with the design and size.

    I plan on purchasing a Mavic Pro in the near future, my question to you sir is at what wind speed is it safe to fly the drone? I am also pleased that you reside in Canada, I reside about 120kms North of Ottawa so having a Canadian person describing the flying in the conditions such as winter and other similar environment is very beneficial to me. Thanks again.

    • @Bowmans-Woods

      I am not sure I would fly in winds above 20-25 knots. You will notice the controller gives you a wind warning any time there is a strong gust. But the warning is far below what it can handle. It's just a heads up. I flew one day when it was windy and the only problem I had it it made really slow progress when going into the wind. But the footage was still really rock solid. You can see what I mean if you watch the episode where we go to the Waupoos Cider house. We had no idea above the trees the winds had really picked up. Out sailboat actually drags its anchor in that episode. So there were reportedly gusts to 40 knots. The Mavic flew stable. Just had trouble going into the wind.

    Great info again Craig, but why would you turn off the rear sensors? Regarding the ND filters I've seen packs with 3 different colours but don't know which one to use for each occasion. Is it just a case of trial and error?. Does this app completely replace the DJI GO app?

    • @Bowmans-Woods
      @Bowmans-Woods  7 лет назад +1

      Thanks Jed: OK. 3 questions so I will answer them in order. 1) I don't turn off the rear sensors. The Mavic doesn't have rear sensors. Only the Phantom 4 Pro and Later models of Aspire have those sensors but the DJI GO 4 app is written for all the newer drones so it may show rear sensor options that are not applicable to the Mavic or the regular Phantom 4. 2) ND filters can be a bit of trial and error until you try them a few times and get use to what works best in various lighting conditions. I have ND 8, 16, 32 and some polarizing filters. So from trial and error I have found that an overcast day I may get away with an ND 8 but if it is a brighter day I would need a 16 and on a clear sunny day, I would need a 32. The best way to figure out what you need is to put them on and set the shutter speed to what you want to match you FPS. Perfect setting is 2x the FPS, so if you are shooting at 30 FPS you want an ND filter that is dark enough that you can get your shutter speed down to 1/60th of a second shutter and have the EV readout show a 0 (perfectly exposed). 3) You can still fly the newer drones on the regular DJI Go app but it may not give you all the options that the newer DJI Go 4 app has since it was designed for the newer drones with sensors. Generally the older drones (ie the Phantom 3 and below) have to use the regular DJI app and the newer ones can use the Go 4 app. Hope that explains it all. Thanks for watching. Craig

    13:36...about the Custom White Balance....You mentioned something that I believe is incorrect...White balance has nothing to do with the camera brightening and darkening the image, that is controlled by Exposure. For example, if you have the settings in full Auto, then the camera automatically brightens and darkens the image (Exposure changes), depending on what you point it at.
    What I think you meant to say is that Custom White Balance keeps the same color temperature (warm or cool colors) and doesn't constantly change when you point the camera towards different lighting condition. ;)

    • @Bowmans-Woods
      @Bowmans-Woods  7 лет назад +1

      Yes. I was trying to say that if you set everything to Auto then the Mavic will change the brightness and will even change the colour temp if White Balance is also set to auto. In that case the Mavic will change the colour temp as you fly around. So if you want a Static brightness and colour temp you just set it all to manual and pick everything. In that case you would manually pick the Colour temp that you think looks the best on your screen and then after you see the footage later on your computer you find the colours are not exactly what you hoped, you can always colour correct later. At least by having everything set in manual mode it will be the same brightness and the same colour throughout your footage. I could tell the episode was going to be long so I was rushing over a few things and I probably could have explained it better. Thanks for writing in so I could clarify in comments.

    Quick question, do you have the option of focus peaking on your android tab?
    I didn't see you cover it in you tutorial and wondered if it was just in the iOS version of the app? I'm thinking of getting a large cheap screen like yours but would hate to lose that option.

    • @Bowmans-Woods
      @Bowmans-Woods  7 лет назад

      Oh yes. I did forget to mention that feature. My bad. Yes the software is the same on both platforms. Focus peaking is available and what it does, for those that don't know, is it puts a red fringe around things that are in focus. My previous episode (EP36) when I am flying around my neighborhood you hear me say that everything is looking in focus because it has red around the edges. I was using my Acer Android tablet in that episode and it does have that feature. I think I was worried about how long the episode was getting so I breezed right over that feature without mentioning it. But it is a great feature to have turned on. Thanks for mentioning it.

      The Tablet seems to work really well. It doesn't overheat and the battery seems to last and last. If you watch one of my previous videos (and I think in this video you can see it) there is a red light on the screen that shows that it thinks it is getting a bit of a charge from the RC. No I think all the warning messages show up no matter what you try. The wind one does come up way more often than it should. I agree.

    Thank you so much for your informative tutorial. I just purchased the Mavic. I'm still a little bit confused with the software I pushed something on the screen and everything disappeared except for the image it seems like it was something to adjust the camera settings but I had no idea how to get it back to the original screen that we're looking at in your video so I just closed down the software and we started it maybe you could help me out with that? Also I was flying it the other day pretty far from my home point and the radio Ikon just to the right of the GPS icon began to Blink? What does that mean? I got nervous and I pushed the return to home and the Drone came back thankfully.

    How do I stop the app from loading up my memory with log files?

    • @Bowmans-Woods
      @Bowmans-Woods  7 лет назад

      You can turn off the logging of flight data in the settings. Or get a phone or tablet with more Hard Drive space.

    Been going through your DJI Go 4 settings list again Craig, and I've noticed that on the C1- C2 button page, I do not have a "Center Auto Focus" option, all the others are there, but not that one!
    I thought it might be an IOS/Android thing, as I am flying with a Nvidia Shield K1 (which works very well!) but seeing as you have access to both, could you clarify that for me?
    Go 4 is the only flying app I've used so far, so might it be something that is carried over from the early Go app, I know that some settings migrate when going from one to the other, and there is now an autofocus function........hang on, just thought of something, is the option only available when set to Manual?
    Might have to answer my own question here!!
    Managed to get a short flight in this morning but my hands froze (-1C, yes I know, us Brits are not very hardy!) it was quite windy up on the hill, but the Mavic coped well, can't wait till it gets warmer!
    Hope you're hanging in there, any news from DJI yet?

    • @Bowmans-Woods
      @Bowmans-Woods  7 лет назад +1

      Hey David. Center Focus is by far the most used feature for the C1 button. I think it comes from the factory with that already set, so I doubt they removed that option. You sure it is not already assigned to a button and that is why you are not seeing it as an option? As for DJI. I just got the email today that they are replacing my Mavic under warranty because they agree there was a hardware error. So that is a load off my mind. Probably too late to have it by my BVI trip but Rich has still offered to let me borrow his. So it seems to be all good. I don't blame you for the cold. Janice and I hate cold and -1c can still feel really cold if it is damp out (which I am sure it is there) and it is windy. Wind chill might have made it feel like -10c

      Nope, still the same whether in "Auto" or "Manual" :(

    • @foxcroc44
      @foxcroc44 7 лет назад

      Hey Craig, thanks for the quick reply. I've been through all the settings several times, and there is no Center Focus anywhere, that's why I asked, and after watching everyone on here set it that way, was really confused the option wasn't available on mine. I tried setting the camera to Manual, no difference!
      Maybe I downloaded a different version, but then the first time you use it updates the firmware automatically anyway, it's a weird one that's for sure, might have to contact Customer Services for a heads up?
      Great news, must be a huge relief?
      DJI finally came to their senses, I've still got my fingers crossed that it will arrive in time, looking forward to seeing some aerial footage of BVI and around your yatch! ;)
      (probably as close as I'm going to get, as I'm absolutely useless on boats (inner ear problem) which is a royal pain in the you know what!)

    • @Bowmans-Woods
      @Bowmans-Woods  7 лет назад +1

      Hey David. I can't really test mine to see if anything seems different because I don't presently have a Mavic to link to. When it finally arrives I will check. Seems really really strange if that option was gone. How else are we going to refocus our cameras?

      COD, I've read that, when new software or firmware is issued, it's best to uninstall the existing version and then install the new version, rather than installing the new over the old. Agree?

    Hi, I didn't get about "backward flying" Pls can you explain ? Thanks

    • @Bowmans-Woods
      @Bowmans-Woods  7 лет назад

      Sure. So if that setting is turned on and you are in "Active Track" mode, where you highlight a subject on you screen and the drone locks onto it and follows it. So, let's say you chose to track a person and you were hovering 20 feet off the ground, as the person walks away from the drone the drone would follow it forward. But it the person turned around and ran directly at the drone (if that backward flight option was turned o), the drone would fly backward to keep the subject in frame. The Phantom 4 Pro and I believe the Aspire 2 and Aspire Pro have sensors on the sides and back that will avoid objects so it would be safe to have that mode on and fly backward. The Mavic does not have backward facing sensors so if that was on and the drone was flying backward to track the object, it could back into a wall or a tree and crash. So, since I have a Mavic, I make sure that backward flight option is turned off. Its only a feature that applies to active track. You obviously can manually fly the drone backward. Hope that explains it.

    Got a question, being a new DJI user, If you download the 4 can you delete the the regular Go app, or should we keep both??

    • @Bowmans-Woods
      @Bowmans-Woods  7 лет назад +1

      Hey Tone. That is a good question. They are seperate apps that run on their own. For a while when the DJI GO 4 app came out I kept both on my tablet in case one glitched out on me and I am glad I did. If you watch Ep35 you see me struggling to take off and was freezing while waiting. The reason is when I went to fly with the DJI Go 4 app it said it needed to update and my Tablet doesn't have data so I couldn't do it from the field. Luckily I still had the regular Go app on the tablet so I took off and flew with that app instead. For now I would keep both on you phone or tablet, just in case you run into the same problem. Consider the regular Go app a back-up app.

    • @tone1myth2ad

      I only really asked because on the Go app, i would say in the last week or so DJI said it would no longer support it for the Mavic Pro, I was waiting and in no rush to download the 4 , but it forced my hand at that point. Which is why i was wondering if it was even necessary to keep the Go, My mavic is able to still fly from it, having it as a back up is not a bad idea thanks again

    • @Bowmans-Woods
      @Bowmans-Woods  7 лет назад +1

      Agreed. I flew with the regular app and it still seems to work with the Mavic. I guess it just doesn't have all the settings to change all the sensor features on the Mavic and other newer drones. But it seems to still allow you to fly with it, for now. Soon I will probably ditch the regular app now the the 4 app seems to have been around for a while. Just make sure you start up your app at home to make sure it is up to date before you are standing in a freezing field with no Wifi. ha ha.

    Hi guys, I am having problem with my brand new Mavic. When I turn it on and take off, after few minutes and few meters of distance I loose the video connection and I have to land and restart the whole bird (remote, bird and APP). This happens almost every time. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the DJI Go 4 APP but the problem persist. I am running the latest fw (500).
    Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

      Whoa. I have not heard of this issue. You should contact DJI immediately and get your drone returned for a new one. It sounds defective to me. I have no suggestions on how to fix that. Sorry, I know it is a pain to go through the return process but you don't want a drone that can't stay connected.

      COD, would it make sense for Ilost to first go through all the settings using your video as a guide? Next, while the aircraft is still on the helipad, shouldn't view the Aircraft Status Indicator on the rear of the aircraft to be certain he sees nothing but green -- and if he does see other than green, refer to the table on p. 12 of the 2017.11 edition of the manual?

      refer to DJI forum...give them specifics on what your using...android or ios....many people including myself have many weird problems when using android systems....for those using android system and having problems dont be so quick to blame the product...the app and drone will work better with an Ipad or the crystalsky monitor

    Are you really unaware that 1/60 means one sixtieth of a second. Those numbers are all shutter speeds-fractions of a second.
