I always said The Cure was the best band in history but I accept that I might be biased. Having said that, I'm 100% sure that they are the best band in history in terms of B-sides. No one has a better collection of those
Still remember listening to this song over & over again in my 1988 Pontiac Bonneville SSE on the way to a party in Hartland, MI with my college friends - Dec 1990. Loved this song.
Yep - this is one of their best songs. My other favorites are Primary, a forest, love song, lullaby, play for today , Push , in between days, and close to me
I think I have never heard a voice as sexy as Robert's one... What a wonderful man, I'm running out of words to describe him... Thank you so much for sharing this raritie !
Wearing my Doc Martins/ripped red Guess jeans/God Save the Queen Tee and black Trench at 22 just getting from one day to the next in the 80's with the Cure sound tracking my life got me here.
I heard this beautiful Cure song for the first time yesterday sept 14th on Firstwave (Sirius satellite). Wow ! I feel so good listening to it , what a great beat ! Love you Cure ❤️
It was the late 80s, early 90s, Orange County; another massive earthquake then waking up to my alarm clock set to KROQ. Harold and Joe was what I woke up to. Good times.
My friend just introduced me to this B side song I was unaware of until yesterday and as a ginormous Cure fan since '87 I was so excited!!! I listened to it probably 20x already!! Thank you for making my day! 🖤💜💚💋
:-) LG,Stephan

Love the Pic with Marty at 1:33. Looks like, In his drunken confusion, he stumbled into the wrong band for a second. A somewhat Depeche Mode/Cure fusion.=)
Yup, I'm not sure how well that would have worked out though after leaving due somewhat over his power struggle with Martin.Robert is too much of a leader.
Similar thing. Just recorded off the radio when I was in 9th grade. Lost the tape but always remembered the name of the song. First time hearing this since 9th grade.
First time I heard this was on KROQ (Los Angeles) at a little after 5 in the morning (I set my alarm radio earlier than usual, had to be at work early). I was half asleep when I heard it, and it freaked my ass right out. It's one of The Cure's better tunes--love the moodiness of it.
I wish he had sung more songs in this style... it suits him more than the wailing i think. The production is also interesting and similar to some of the mixed up era remixes.
Lee Ving one of the for sure. oh man, I saw this song on a Cure docco in the 90s and just couldn't get hold of it anywhere until the internet came along. fuck that makes me sound old.
Lol i think i know which Doku you are talking about, i think ive seen it too, and this song caught my heightened interest too, and i didnt quite know where to find it either... was exactly the time when i lost a bit interest in the band and "never enough" wasnt a great song for a single in thought (and still think, imo this song should have been the A-Side)
Sing birds sing... like in Give me It, that's fun Some comment somewhere also found a reference to heroine, not sure what it was, a line was just a bit different but also plausible. Does anyone know more?
The song is inspiration was behind Simon's watching Australian soap Neighbours. Harold Bishop and Joe Mangel are popular characters in the early 90s. I don't think there is a heroine reference in the song People just made it up. This is confirmed by The liner notes for Join the Dots b-side and and box set.
They're Characters from the Australian soap opera neighbours. It was the working title when the music with giving to Robert to write lyrics for, but he couldn't be bothered to re-title it. All explained in the Join the Dots box set.
Simon wrote the demo and just named it after those characters as at the time it was a show he was watching, apparently he often did this based on his telly habits. lol
It's the whole opposite nature of it for me. The whole point of Robert Smith and everything he has written is that he does care. Singing that he doesn't is so wrong. Which makes this song such a thing of beauty
I love listening to Harold and Joe and so does my neighbourhood
Read your comment and laughed out loud. 😆 What a magical song.
Everybody loves good neighbours
My fave Cure song. Good to spread it around lol.
Best comment ever!
I always said The Cure was the best band in history but I accept that I might be biased. Having said that, I'm 100% sure that they are the best band in history in terms of B-sides. No one has a better collection of those
I agree! 'Foolish Arrangement' being another of my favourite Cure b-sides.
Also one year later after your comment I totally agree 👍🏻
Sorry, people, but JAMC must be the absolute champions in terms of B-sides.
You were right on both counts my good man (or woman) !!!!
I agree.
I'll never forget meeting Robert, his wife n pool Thompson! Bestest day of my entire life n sweetest people I ever met
I loved this song. A hidden gem

Me to played over and over but in my 87 pontiac fiero 😎
I was in my 88 Honda Civic and just moved to San Francisco!
I was in my 87 white Trans Am with t-tops cruisin down Pacific Coast Highway in California with my first love. Aaaaahhhhh…
If you don't get the cure by listening to this, you never will.
I so agree !
Yep - this is one of their best songs. My other favorites are Primary, a forest, love song, lullaby, play for today , Push , in between days, and close to me
what a brilliant song

One of my favorite Cure songs.
One of my faves. Love Roberts voive the organ rythem lyrics and everything about this song.
Such a beautiful hidden gem of The CURE. Listen to the beautiful Robert 's voice.
The man can conquer any genre he chooses. He and his band mates are my generations Beatles
I heard this beautiful Cure song for the first time yesterday sept 14th on Firstwave (Sirius satellite). Wow ! I feel so good listening to it , what a great beat ! Love you Cure ❤️
Best Cure song ever.
it's definately up there on my list as well
My new favorite Cure song. Thank you Richard Blade!
It was the late 80s, early 90s, Orange County; another massive earthquake then waking up to my alarm clock set to KROQ. Harold and Joe was what I woke up to. Good times.
So happy to hear this again.
❤❤❤❤❤love it so much. Not on Spotify😢 sadness
I've spent a lifetime in love with the Cure and I've never heard this one! I love his voice in it. 😍
Me encanta esta canción hace que mi vida sea FELIZ. me provoca felicidad.
THIS SONG MAKES ME HAPPY
I heard this song in 1994. Since then - I have had the tune in my head. It is 2020 now, and I finally know what the name of the song is!
Beautifull Song!! Thanks very Much !!!
This has so much of what I love about the cure. Great song.
Bought this single back in 1990, on Melrose in LA. Loved it ever since.
Really one of their best! Admiring dat weird mix of grotesque and melancholy.
♥ it.... a cool b-side track from 1990 :o) one of my "the cure fav´s" :O)
My friend just introduced me to this B side song I was unaware of until yesterday and as a ginormous Cure fan since '87 I was so excited!!! I listened to it probably 20x already!! Thank you for making my day! 🖤💜💚💋
Robert Smith has always been my one true love
For me the big hand & Harold and Joe. Best Regards from Mex

Thanks from Moscow to Roberts b sides
Robert Smith, where have u been all my life?
Lyrics:
Nothing ever gets in my way
Nothing ever gets on my mind
Nothing ever makes me stop to think about
Nothing of the kind
Nothing ever loses me sleep
Nothing ever wins my heart
Nothing ever makes me want to sing along
And nothing ever makes me want to start
If I'm falling down a mountain
Then I pick myself up
If I crash into an iceberg
I don't give a frightful look around
If I am burning then I put myself out
I'm so completely full
I scare the world
Oh, all the world
All inside out
Just look around
Just look around
Nothing ever puts me out
Nothing ever pulls me in
Nothing ever makes me want to jump
Nothing makes me want to begin
Nothing ever gets me down
Nothing ever gets me uptight
And nothing ever makes me run around
And nothing makes me feel I might
If I'm hanging from a peach tree
Then I cut myself down
And if I look into the sun
I just turn up the sound
And if I swallow death cap love rooms
Then I spit them right out
I'm so completely full
I scare the world
Yeah, all the world
Inside out
Just look around
Just look around
Just look around
Nothing ever gets in my way
Nothing ever gets on my mind
Nothing ever makes me stop to think about
Nothing of the kind
Harold and Joe
Go go go
Harold and Joe
Go go go
Yeah
Sing birds sing
So fucking optimistic.
@Ryan S It's probably a shortened death cap mushroom.

Best band ever, no question
First time hearing this again since the 9th grade. I was the only kid with the doc martens sandal. Them things looked crazy!
I love this song.
sweet dream days turn to bitter rain
Tonight in Chicago.....Finally :)
De este estilo de los variados que tiene Cure, me quedo con esta canción. La mejor
Nunca la había escuchado. Gracias por compartirla
I kind of feel this way today
Love the Pic with Marty at 1:33. Looks like, In his drunken confusion, he stumbled into the wrong band for a second. A somewhat Depeche Mode/Cure fusion.=)
Martin Gore right . Later they went on to offer Alan Wilder a spot in The Cure .
Yup, I'm not sure how well that would have worked out though after leaving due somewhat over his power struggle with Martin.Robert is too much of a leader.
Martin Gore is brilliant, he has worked with many ppl. Respect. An amazing artist.
Is that Robert Smith's voice??? I've never heard this before and I've been a fan for 30+ years.
It is :)
Absolutely.
I recall it being used in a transitional part of one of the old VHS videos... Show or the other one I can't remember...
@@xadrikxaulxu "Play Out" I guess ;)
Yes it is he's just using his lower register
Harold and Joe is my ear worm ❤️
I wish i still had this cassette single; unsure what was on the other side. But I'll love this song forever ❤
Never Enough
Great !!! Love the Cure 🖤
One of the best B sides ever!
I just randomly thought of this track 30 years later. I remember having the never enough cassingle
Similar thing. Just recorded off the radio when I was in 9th grade. Lost the tape but always remembered the name of the song. First time hearing this since 9th grade.
Dito!! Had the tape single also.

Martin Gore at 1:39?
Driving down (?) Street. Play this when you're cruising down the same avenue.
I heard recently on an interview with Robert that Simon wrote this and Neighbours was on and he called it Harold and Joe after the characters.
robert smith is genius.period.love x
Take me back to the 80’s 😊
Their B-sides are ingenious. You've all heard "2 Late", or if not, go listen to it.
How can 27 people not love this B-side?
I wish he had sung more songs in this style... it suits him more than the wailing i think. The production is also interesting and similar to some of the mixed up era remixes.
The song comes from the Mixed up era. i think it was the b-side to Never enough.
bh617 this song sounds like some treasured huanted memory
i love his voice either way but i wish he made more in this lower voice

People always told me they didn't like The Cure much because their music was "too dark and depressing"...

Just my opine but this is their best song .
