- Halo Infinite Single-Player Campaign reviewed by Ryan McCaffrey on Xbox Series X. Also available on Xbox One and PC.
Halo has meant a lot to me over the past 20 years. From first landing on the ring in Halo 1 to the surprise Arbiter arc in Halo 2 to being heartbroken by Halo 5’s abysmal storytelling, it’s one of the few series in gaming where every new mainline entry really matters to me. After six years, it was fair to wonder: did Halo still belong in the “Best Shooter” conversation? And would I still care about it? I am both relieved and delighted that Halo Infinite emphatically answers both questions with a resounding yes. Turning us loose to explore a massive open ring with almost complete freedom to approach combat with a wide range of iconic guns, vehicles, and toys has absolutely brought Halo’s single-player campaign back into contention as one of the finest out there (to say nothing of the amazing multiplayer suite), and even though it drops the ball a bit with the story and lack of environmental variety, Infinite picks it back up again with style.

Imagine seeing an unstoppable force singlehandedly destroying waves and waves of your friends fighting to kill this demon, and then he just carelessly executes a grunt with a rocket launcher. He is so unimpressed by the army you are putting up against him that he is willing to spend precious rocket ammo on the easiest mob. Let that sink in.
Finished the campaign, and as a long time fan who grew up with the series… it pulled at the heart strings. I’m already replaying it as we speak

One of the coolest parts of the campaign , is how as you start capturing more fobs around the map and gaining valor, more of your marines show up to each fob, eventually there is more UNSC personnel than banished! It really makes you feel like your rebuilding the UNSC
Then you can give them power weapons and they will destroy the banish! So satisfying

it's alright. not bad, but not a blowout. like a 7/10 imo. a lot of bullet spongey enemies and my personal opinion of the story are my only gripes. neither of those are enough to justify a bad review for me tho

This time around, the shooting mechanics are solid. The story is the cherry on top. Been having so much fun with the Multiplayer!

Not too disappointed about the variety of environments. Important thing is it looks as though the game has a solid foundation for future content, so releasing dlc/expansions in the future that include different environments should be easily doable. Bring on Wednesday!!!!

When your actually playing the campaign its not something you even notice. Plus theres a daynight cycle and every part of the map feels different.

The aesthetics of the ring In infinite make much more sense. After all, they're weapons built by the forerunners, built to either wipe out all life in the galaxy or to contain the Flood.
Why would there be towns and cities everywhere? In infinite you truly feel like you're in a complete 'man' made alien setting, exactly how it should be.

It's a game
There's a couple of hilarious voice lines that the grunts can voice out when that happens. They obviously kept it like it is for gameplay reasons.
It would be bad if you couple pull the enemies towards you instead of pulling you to them.
Yeah...the Chief weighs 1000lbs/500kg - he would pull every enemy towards him, expect perhaps the Brutes.
Great review Ryan! Fingers crossed that environmental affects/effects can be added in post (we've seen how they can do it for Holiday themed multiplayer maps) but stoked none the less to get my hands on this Campaign..

Vanguard is actually pretty fun. I've been having a great time with it. Plus, one thing it has over Bf is that you can actually play it without falling into the ground
The game is nostalgic but also really fresh. There are a lot of subtle callbacks and references to level designs from the original trilogy which are so fun to come across but the story is also really interesting and compelling so far. Haven’t beat it totally yet. But the open world is probably my favorite feature so far. There’s just a lot to do and it’s just fun to be able to collect and upgrade gear to go into the next mission
I’m so glad Ryan is the one narrating this review, he’s always been a true Halo fan.

How much of that will be doing side stuff e.g. 40 propaganda towers (yes, there are 40 propaganda towers for you to do)

Just over 60% completed, going for every little tidbit and climbing alot of mountains to find Easter eggs (there are alot!), I'm surpassing 20 hours now. Can easily play for another 10-15
This is on heroic for a first playthrough, gotta so legendary next for sure so potentially 60+ hours of campaigning

I've been a PlayStation player my whole life, Recently downloaded Halo Infinite on my PC and boy it's Lit, gameplay wise it's easily 10/10 (Talking about multiplayer)

really....The game has zero variety, the bosses are all the same in terms of mechanics and vehicle diversity is almost none existent in teh campaign.
7 years in development and they didn’t manage to create any variety in levels, nor cutscenes that didn’t include holo grams.

@@duuke4618 they claimed that Halo Infinite will be a platform similar to Destiny, where each new DLC brings new stories. Hopefully this includes new maps, new weapons, new vehicles, and new enemies (the flood)

Microsoft are turning out banger after banger now. Every game from Xbox game studios is being so well received. This is such a turn around from the Xbox one days. Hats off to Microsoft, and hats off the 343 who seem to have completely redeemed themselves. No only is this a new fantastic halo game with a new game engine. It’s a new halo game that only a year ago was in chaos. Yet they’ve managed to turn it around and release a high quality product. Well done. Can’t wait to play

All games that were praised by both critics and players. This was Microsoft year where other publishers struggled to release quality content (with few exceptions) and blamed pandemic and remote work
I'm a PlayStation guy and even I've noticed the excellent string of games that Microsoft has dished out recently. Now, the console wars are about to get lit 🔥

They now have a Co-op campaign mode

This game was an absolute blast, the best campaign since Reach. It’s by far 343’s best work on Halo so far

After Halo 5’s bad campaign 343 really needed to nail this one. I’m happy they went with a more Halo CE open style campaign and the art style, mainly the Forerunner architecture really reminds me of CE too.
Finally a company that actually listened to what the fans want!

Just beat it today. Miles ahead of 5. The next one just needs some jaw dropping moments like scarab tanks dropping in and were in business. One of the best. Go chief!

The intros for the Banished bosses remind me of the Uruk and Olog-Hai (Troll) nemesis intros from Shadow Of Mordor and Shadow Of War. This is very welcome because it gives these Brutes and Elites a sense of personality.

It took 3 games, but 343 seems to have found its footing with the franchise. You've got the foundation, now grow it. Let's get some story and map expansions with snowy areas, desert areas, urban areas, and more. Grow the Zeta Halo ring into the promising destructive playground it deserves to be.

im glad they at least tried to continue from where 5 left off some of the books followed characters a bit after 5 but it would have been nice to see more than just try to tie up loose ends
