    Not just hair loss, I have Graves’ disease and have always had straight hair. Until a few months ago, when I remove hair from my brush, the ends of my hair are squiggly for the last 3-4 inches of each strand. But when I look at my long hair in a pony tail, I don’t see it squiggly at all.

    I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism decades ago. Dr. treated it with a radioactive pill and killed off too much of my thyroid so now I have hypothyroidism. Been taking levothyroxine for years which as I understand causes hair loss also. Needless to say, I’ve had hair loss problems all my life even when my Tsh level is good.

    I noticed a decrease in hair density on my frontal scalp and my clinician said it looked like male pattern baldness. However, my blood test results indicated the serum TSH level was within normal range albeit just above the lower end (0.71mIU/L). The possibility of Telogen Effluvium has been on my mind since my hair loss and stress/low mental health happened within a few months of each other. I'm aware TE typically affects the whole scalp, but is TE (seemingly) only affecting the frontal scalp a possibility?

    My Graves disease has been in remission for years. That was until I started supplementing iodine drops. Thanks Dr. Brownstein! I started taking the drops because of weight gain and feeling sluggish. After a month of high dose iodine, my hair is falling out in clumps. I'm wearing a beanie like a cancer patient. The hair loss is so bad. My hair is dry and brittle. Just a month ago before starting iodine, my hair was gorgeous. This just kills my spirit all this thyroid hair loss. 😢 I'm back taking bugleweed and motherswort trying to slow my thyroid down and regulate it once again.

    • @dwilson6769

      Well, I’ve lived long enough to say that after spending *thousands* of dollars over the years on every kind of supplement sold in the US, I heartily DO NOT recommend them anymore! - Not unless your board-certified physician says it’s fine. They’re usually ineffective, subject to all sorts of breathless hype & false advertising, & can mess with your health in several ways.

    What are good shampoo and conditioner brands to use? I’ve only recently learned about brands causing hairloss and that there’s quite a few brands that are responsible for such results. I have noticed a very slowly loss of my hair and slight thinning around my head probably for using these products, I am now questioning if I need finasteride or not right now. A list of brands that you guys think are reliable would be good.

      Hair loss on its own is unfortunately very common in healthy aging women due to inherited genetic sensitivity or, more rarely, a very poor diet: low vitamins, minerals- hence the popularity (& wishful thinking) of nutritional supplements. But they offer no results for most.

    Instead of stopping minoxidil abruptly can I stop it gradually (from applying 3 times a week to 2 times then 1 time and then gradually discontinuing) will my hair fall off?

    • @ayadhussin6771
      @ayadhussin6771 Год назад

      Yes, discontinuing minoxidil will hair fall off because you have still underlying cause of androgen DHT that circulates in the body and attached to hairfollicles overtime, or it could be result by external factors such as severe nutritional deficiencies.

      I had alopecia areata (spotty baldness) 30 yrs ago. Grew back in about 4 or 5 mos. Found out my paternal grandfather had it too with same outcome. Unnerving aspect is you don’t know if will get worse or resolve. Returns in one out of 3 cases . Me no. No known cause. No real treatment. Topicals make you feel better but not maybe effective. Shot in skull ugh. Hang in there. You are not your hair.

      Dutasteride lower DHT level up to 70 % and therefore it raises free testosterone

      @kongwaguk8337 10 месяцев назад

      Dutasteride blocks Testosterone from turning into DHT which is the causeof androgenetic hair loss. Since it is blocked from turning into DHT there is more testosterone then there would have been because it was not converted. This higher level of testosterone shouldn't be a cause for concern.
