The first time I heard PTX do this carol, it completely blew me away, much as it did you. Never in my wildest dreams did I think PTX could upgrade this song to make it so modern and yet traditional at the same time. They are truly magicians of sound to our ears.
The whole story of this song is just amazing. Such a simple, beautiful, and heartfelt hymn. Written for a church where the organ was broken. No musical accompaniment. Only human voices, lifted up in joyful praise. Listening to Pentatonix sing this version in a church just brings all that home in such a beautiful way.
It’s angels singing-no other explanation. I know they work hard at their craft but, in my opinion, there is a gift from God involved. Always enjoy your enthusiasm! Thanks
As soon as they get to the "Sleep" part, my eyes tear up and I feel so full in my heart. It is just amazingly endearing and gentle. I do imagine them as angels singing! Thanks for your amazing reactions to this group!
Love these off mic performances...if for no others than to quiet the folks who insist there's some sort of musical trickery. This and Mary Did You Know are my favorite Christmas songs of theirs.
I don't know if it's me, but in a similar look to a manger scene, the way they were in a semi-circle and the way they were all looking downward, the whole time; it's as they were actually singing or prayerfully to The BABY JESUS in a time warp kind of way. I know more Reverence could not have been shown. Very Moving To Me! I really enjoyed your reaction on this.
My absolute favorite of their Christmas songs. The part where it's a combination of Mitch and Avi with the others adding in their beauty around them is just....mindblowing.
I love to watch PTX reactors to see what songs are their favorites, who their favorite member is (you can usually tell after a few videos), and if they have the same reaction to certain aspects of a song as I had when I originally heard it. One thing I've noticed after enjoying all your PTX videos is you generally comment on the background vocals, percussion, and bass, but rarely comment on the lead vocals. Sometimes it seems like you are so focused on what's happening in the background in your headphones that you don't hear the soloists lol. There's nothing wrong with that and one of my favorite things about PTX is that everyone can find a voice or tone that appeals to them within the group, but after watching PTX reactors for years, I think you are the first one who reacts in that way. It's nice to see something different. One last note--in this one, I love watching Avi in the beginning when the trio is singing by themselves. He is like a proud papa listening to them.
I had not heard this version before. Your brain kind of fills in the original tune I find, so I stopped and started from the start and sang along, not counting the add on, it is a super back vocal to sing the original song along to. They are very skilled at playing with existing melodies and inventing their own additions.
This refreshes a traditional song in a very refreshing way. I like it! Normally a "normal" rendition works better for me in German, the music and words fit together better but this is almost a new song.
I’ve been waiting for you to do this one. It’s in my top 3 from PTX. Your vision of them singing a lullaby to the King of Kings is so right. It’s like they’re singing from a different realm.
This is so beautiful. Thank you. I think that this was filmed in a church in Germany while they were on tour. ( fellow Pentaholics correct me if I’m wrong) They recorded everywhere because they toured non stop in the early years They took a portable recording studio on tour with them.
Oh Larry...thank you for reacting to this pure masterpiece rendition of this song. I was pretty happy when I received the notification. The moment Avi joined the melody it became something else. Deep. Strong. Emotional. And I love how we can hear so clearly every member. The sleep section is just...wow. I think when we go to paradise, it should be them welcoming us with their magnificent and powerful voices. I'm emotional right now. Thank you ❤❤
Another awesome arrangement by these extremely skilled vocalists. I've never heard any arrangement of this song even sligihtly reminiscent to this. Great reaction Chris! 10,3k and counting :-)
Have you seen the video for my favorite things? I've seen them live, in the biggest venue of that tour. They sang a couple of songs where nearly everyone had their flashlights on, and crying. Hallelujah and Imagine. It was magical.
Thanks, Chris, this brought back memories of Christmas time growing up. No dishwasher, so our Mum (soprano) and 4 kids (1 tenor, 1 baritone and 2 mezzos) would harmonise all the carols we knew, and our favourite was Silent Night. Our Dad was kindly asked not to join in. There is nothing better than listening to superb voices in settings like here 🎄
I've never heard anyone do anything even similar, basically turning it into a lullaby after just 1 verse. Once I heard it I declared it the best version ever. 😍
Agreed. And, generally speaking, Pentatonix' version of any song tends to be the best version of that song, regardless of genre. Well, that's how I see it anyway
Wow. A pentatonix video I havent seen before. I thought I seen them all. This was really nice and brought tears in my eyes. Thank you for reacting to this. Stay safe 💛
This was Avi's beautiful arrangement...and I agree it was sung like a sweet lullaby ....and Kristy's vocals were so gorgeous too. Love your analysis so much. Merry Christmas from Australia
Chris, if I understood correctly, they did that in a side tract of the "Kölner Dom", the main catholic church in Cologne in Germany. This Dom is several hundred years old. But because of WW II there had to be repair jobs on this old building. Stay safe and sound.German greetings
What a beautiful rendition! We're going to see them this Wednesday. I can't wait. Thank u Larry for ur reaction. U were spot on. I can't wait to see what u pick from Home Free. Both their older stuff w/ Chris Rupp & the newer stuff w/ Adam Chance are both worthy. Then again I'm a Home Fry, so I'm a bit biased. 😉 Waiting anxiously. 😊❤🎶 Thanks again.
Another beautiful reaction to a beautiful song, so fun going on this journey with you Chris. I saw them last weekend in CT, 1st time I ever saw them live and they were incredible. They also just seem like genuinely kind loving people. My favorite was when they did an acoustic/ off mic rendition of My Heart With You, it was stunning ☀️☀️☀️
Love your reactions! I know you are so busy with Christmas music right now but I would love to see your reaction and hear your insightful thoughts on Kevin's solo work on his 'KO' channel starting with "Down"--Kevin's talent will blow you away!
I never heard the type of lullabye ending before, but my director of my elementary school chorus back in the late '60s taught us a descant to sing above the opening verse as we repeated it to close the song: 'neath the silent stars A child is sleeping Flocks are safe within the fold Secure from danger Want or cold Si--- Lent Si-eye-lent Nye-eye-ight Hoe-leeee Hoe-oh-lee Nye-eye-ight Slee-eep in Peace Slee-eep in Heavenly Peace In Peace
Discovered you yesterday. Love your Ptx reaction videos. I wish you were on social media though. I'm sure people would love to follow you (me included).
I will be seeing them in Grand Prairie, TX. From the notes of others, it seems they are making up for lost time in not being able to tour last year. They are bringing out all the favorites. Can't wait!
Love your reaction. I would love for you to react to Avi Kaplans solo stuff so good. He just came out with a new album Floating on a dream. Worth a listen
@Doug Scott I have longed for this information for so long. 🤩 Are you sure it's that church? Lots of people say it was a church in Germany during their European tour. Thank you
Hi Larry, just loved this reaction, you have anew sub. Praying you have included Away in a Manger in your list - ifyou like a new twist on classic carols, you willove the'surprises in the woods :)
This was beautiful, as always with PTX. One of my favorite Christmas some is from for King and Country and their live performance of "Little Drummer Boy" in Phoenix, they have like 10 drums it is so cool, they have done this song many different ways but it is amazing.
This was from their early days. They went to this church for the reverb. I think after "Mary did you know," in a cave, for the vocal effect, they got too much criticism for using studio tricks, and started loosening up on their post production tricks. Could just be me. Thanks for another great reaction! 😁😁😎
Amazing! So lovely. I hope you react to "That's Christmas to me". It's a wonderful original of theirs and has a cute video showing home video clips of them as young children at Christmas-time. Brings all the feels. Their concerts are SO fun! Hope you get to go!
I like the Pentatonix cover of Silent Night, but honestly, my favorite version of it was the version we did in High School A Capella Choir in the sixties. We did it in the original German, titled Stille Nacht.
Kevin's beatbox is great but if you want to know how versatile he is you should listen or react to his solo of "Down". It really shows a lot of what he can do
Their voices are gifts from GOD!
The first time I heard PTX do this carol, it completely blew me away, much as it did you. Never in my wildest dreams did I think PTX could upgrade this song to make it so modern and yet traditional at the same time. They are truly magicians of sound to our ears.
White winter hymnal is so creative too! Simple & creative at the same time.
As soon as Avi starts, the song is suddenly complete. It's like the angels are singing. The most stunning piece from them IMO.
Love your reviews. Your heart is so pure towards Father. Pentatonix is an anointed group.
Larry, I simply call it “utter amazement”…
Just beautiful ✨
Thank you, I love your reactions so very much you’re so lovely 🙂

Boy, you're digging into some archives!
Avi's voice is just so pure and graceful in the last part. Makes me so emotional every time I hear it.

The whole story of this song is just amazing. Such a simple, beautiful, and heartfelt hymn. Written for a church where the organ was broken. No musical accompaniment. I love this version of silent night, especially when Avi comes in with that sweet simple lullaby.
I love how you can see Avi singing in his head at the beginning when the Trio are singing. He and Kevin are feeling it.
Avi isn't just singing it in his mind, he looks like he's also directing it in his mind. 😊
It’s heavenly Larry!
This is a Tsunami of angelic sound. What talent. Pentatonix always adds the perfect spin on a song that makes it sound brand new
Thank you
Heavenly
It’s as if they have woven a beautiful tapestry with their voices into a classic favorite Christmas carol!
Every time. Every. Single. Time. They don’t rewrite these classics, they bring them back to life.
I don't know if it's me, but in a similar look to a manger scene, the way they were in a semi-circle and the way they were all looking downward, the whole time; it's as they were actually singing or prayerfully to The BABY JESUS in a time warp kind of way. Pentatonix takes every song and brings the 2.0 version. Love the reaction, blessings.
This is a must-have in my sleep playlist
The chord structures during the last part are divine. Stunning version of this song. One my all time PTX favorites.
Stunning

Pentatonix, or as they're also known: WOW! 😂 I really enjoy your reactions. I do hope you get a chance to see them live soon. You and me both. ❤️
🌟This is what Heaven sounds like!!
Yep chills here too!! OMG!! AVI!!! That brought on the feels for me...whew... absolute, Insanely talented individuals. Nope their creation.
Great reaction.
My absolute favorite of their Christmas songs. The part where it's a combination of Mitch and Avi with the others adding in their beauty around them is just....mindblowing.
♥ Another great reaction! Pentatonix is the only group who can sing in a key different from the original and I'm down for it.

What other group could possibly do this? It is exquisite. I love your appreciation of their talent.
Loved your breakdown. Lullaby for the King of Kings. Definitely the reason for the season.❤ hope you can see them in concert.
I really enjoy your insights, reactions, etc.on your channel.
Helpful to me

They are endlessly brilliant Such a beautiful version of this song.
Speaking of lullaby, you must hear them do Light in the Hallway.
The early PTX work are some of my favorites ~~ it's so easy to see that their hearts were totally into their music!
This is so beautiful. Thank you. I think that this was filmed in a church in Germany while they were on tour. ( fellow Pentaholics correct me if I’m wrong)

They have 242 songs. Not with all video.
Such a beautiful version, transports you somewhere heavenly doesn't it?!
This was Avi's beautiful arrangement...and I agree it was sung like a sweet lullaby ....and Kristy's vocals were so gorgeous too. Love your analysis so much. Merry Christmas from Australia
Avi Caplan is so good!
Nice my favorite of their Christmas songs, love the arrangement and of course the acoustics in the church.
This performance is just next-level amazing to me. Such a gorgeous arrangement, such simplicity (yet so challenging), and such expert delivery.
A classic song made even better.❤
Another great insight into the PREMIERE vocal group of the decade! Love that you love them!😃
Yes I have always felt this was sung as a lullaby.
Chris, if I understood correctly, they did that in a side tract of the "Kölner Dom", the main catholic church in Cologne in Germany. This Dom is several hundred years old. But because of WW II there had to be repair jobs on this old building. Stay safe and sound.German greetings
Have you listened to David Phelps? O holy night? And no more night. Will blow you away!!!!!
This is definitely one of a kind. I don’t know this for a fact, but I feel absolutely sure that the arrangement was Avi’s.
It was.
💜
This is such a beautiful rendition of Silent night, glad you enjoyed it! Great reaction
Its not a christmas song, check out Light in the hallway. Its a song/lullaby they wrote for scotts nephew. Its a beautiful song.

I also recommend Renegade by Kevin Olusola, with or without PTX he's amazing!
I never heard the type of lullabye ending before, but my director of my elementary school chorus back in the late '60s taught us a descant to sing above the opening verse as we repeated it to close the song:
'neath the silent stars
A child is sleeping
Flocks are safe within the fold
Secure from danger
Want or cold
Si---
Lent
Si-eye-lent
Nye-eye-ight
Hoe-leeee
Hoe-oh-lee
Nye-eye-ight
Slee-eep in Peace
Slee-eep in Heavenly Peace
In Peace
I love that!

Angels or aliens? Most people aren't really sure any more. :)) Who ever or whatever, it's just pure pure talent and hard work.
