I think it's awesome how PTX "dialed it back" to highlight Dolly's part. They did a lot of the arrangement to feature her primarily, which shows how humble the group is. It worked so well that Dolly and PTX were awarded the Grammy award for best collaboration that year. That was the first Grammy Dolly Parton ever earned for her iconic and world-famous "Jolene" song.

I believe it was her first which is unfathomable to me.
Last I heard, Avi still had his Grammy's in a box in storage.
When asked if he would ever put them on display in his living room, he said probably not. Said he might eventually put them in a room no one sees but was not going to gloat or be pretentious about them.

@@pamscarr8696 I don't think anybody thought they were going to get a Grammy for country duo performance. Nobody was there to accept and the host had to come back and say basically that they would be sent to all of them.
As for Avi not displaying awards that is in character for him.
Avi is Jewish. He actually follows those teachings more than most people do and as with alot of philosophy it can be hard to understand which means it makes him hard to understand as well. Anavah, humility, being a humble person, is a very important first principle so that he can ask questions when he does not understand without being either defensive or arrogant allowing him to learn. Humility, as a mindset , protects from errors in observation and moral judgment.
If an individual is convinced of the depth of his or her own abilities and intelligence there is very little room for learning and growth. Humility allows for personal development.
It is called anavah but it should not lead one to belittle oneself. Even in the quest for humility, there needs to be a balance with self-esteem and confidence. So he can be a fabulous and accomplished artist at the same time as he avoids arrogance, anger and the blindness that can lead to.
It is a good thing he is so principled too because his voice can draw in and command others. Charismatic.

Dolly Parton is one of those genuinely good people.
She has a foundation that sends out free children's books to kids from Birth to age 5 from her Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. All a parent needs to do is to send her a letter or sign up on her website. Last year she hit the milestone of giving away her 150 millionth Book!!
Last year, Dolly Parton donated $1 million to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, which worked with the drug maker Moderna to develop one of the first coronavirus vaccines to be authorized in the United States.
These are just some of the many charitable acts that she does.

They won the "Best country duo/group performance" Grammy for this in 2016. It was the 3rd for Pentatonix and the 6th (7th?) for Dolly Parton.
To be honest, this has always puzzled me a little. I'm not criticizing what anyone did here, they obviously did an excellent job, but why? As nice as this is, it does not have the creativity or wow factor of PTX's first two Grammys. Dolly Parton has sung/written songs that are more impressive/impactful/creative, chose whatever word you like.
Apparently this was done in one day because that was the only day they could get their schedules to overlap. Not sure why someone decided to shoehorn their schedules together or what Cracker Barrel has to do with it but, okay. Cool.

Listen to Dolly Parton sing, "Just Because I'm a Woman." It's an old song from late sixties or early seventies. Back then radio didn't like for some country women singing certain songs. Our local radio played it.

You should listen to Reba and Dolly recreating Does He Love You. It's a classic Reba song, Dolly wasn't in the original version. I believe they shot the video during the pandemic and it is fantastic!!

What I would like to point out, is the amazing music that came out of the most poorest people, white and black in the states, that found a way to make music. So let's give a standing ovation to that on it's own. Most music came from a cappella...because instruments didn't exist for people that had something to say in a song....so as time evolved, human voices became instruments....And what is sad, is that all that got lost in the racism. The only way you could sing like an angel, was in a white angelical church, or in order to sing soul, it was only in a black Baptist Church and etc....You know why? Because there are more lazy people raising their lazy finger at someone else, that raising that same finger at themselves in order to make this world a better place. The more that people keep raising that lazy finger, the worse off this place is. So get your shit together, learn how to get along with each other, grow up, mind your own business, or have the balls to get involved when you see someone getting hurt. But we don't have that anymore, not unless there is something in it for them...publicity or money. Grow up, Grow a pair, or shut the fuck up!

I'd like to hear Dolly's cover of Peace Train, and/or Don't Think Twice (the Bob Dylan song). I think they are both great.

Think about it like this. If you, not being a country fan, knows the name of a country star, that artist is most likely fantastic or you would not have heard of them . One of my fa vortices is Coat of Many Colors, a true story from her own childhood. Another is a duet with Kenny Rogers, Islands in the Stream.
If you are truly interested in understanding country music, you need to get back to it’s roots and listen to Hank Williams, Sr.

Among other things you could say about this "Jolene" video, it is almost like a passing of the torch from a prior generation of superior entertainment to a younger generation that has equal chops in the performance department. In the lead-in, you asked the rhetorical question, "Let's see what they can do with it." They can win a Grammy with it, for one thing.

You really should try out Dolly's Coat of Many Colors. It like most of her songs is a great story, but so very heartfelt. Beware though, during that song someone may start cutting onions right next to you :P
