U have the most accurate guitar lessons on the web. Seriously. u r so detailed and don't miss a single thing. BIG THANKS 4 sharing such a great lesson with us.
Thank you for taking the time to make this lesson. This song is the reason I started playing guitar. I was heavily influenced by a lot of other stuff but this is it. I'm a super beginner, so this a little out off my wheelhouse this week, but it's something to keep working at. Thanks again!
"Look at them yo-yo's!!" 4:27 thumb on the d string? Wat I am confusion Awesome, finally someone did the opening to this song correct! great work and thanks Carl!
Hey, GuitarLessons365Song! This has been really helpful so far, but then when it gets to 3:00 I get lost on what notes your playing and when. Any chance you could send me a guitar tab version of what your playing so I can have that along with the video. I've tried slowing down the video and repeating parts over and over but I can't seem to figure it out. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!
Ben Kerr www.guitarlessons365.com/money-nothing-guitar-tone-tutorial-dire-straits/ It has a video tutorial with free PDF with the exact effect settings. Thanks for watching!
Everyone uses a Les Paul for this song but I was playing it through after learning it from you and I changed a tiny little something on my amp and now my strat sounds like the real thing. I don't wanna change it now😂
Hello, this is great, thank you! If I want to get this type of tone, what sort of guitar would you suggest I use and /or any other equipment suggestions? Thanks!!
make sure you barre the bottom 4 strings... it makes it easier if you barre all of them; d,g,b,e even though you dont need the high pitch e for this just barre all
yeaah great video.. but just one question..could someone tell me what's the fuzz used in the original song?? I'll appreciate someone reply me .... t-you =)
Always thought this was a little odd and complex riff I know when I play I simplify it because I can’t play it right and it sounds ok. I’m not a guitarist. Very cool riff , much skill.
get positive grid bias effects 2 and download the tone from the cloud,,,or do a guitar match straight from audio....enjoying the hell out of it...they have guitar match too to even turn your guitar into any other guitar on top of all of the effects...het some head phones too prevent pissing off the neighbors and a good midi to capture a lot of presets on the floor and you are in guitar heaven
@Joe Roscoe But if it was "Cheques" it would be correctly spelt "Cheques" not the American "Checks" because it's English so we have the final say. If the English had turned right at Greenland instead of left you'd all be speaking Spanish or French anyway. So say thanks 🤣
Hmmm... The tone is there and this is a lovey tutorial, but that texture that Knopfler gets with the B Flat (that you mention at 2:00) is definitely there when played. You can hear it in the Live Aid performance, although I can't see what his hands are doing. ruclips.net/video/JcqhvPNiJzo/видео.html Lovely tutorial though. Thanks very much!
will u make me a favour watch some of my videos tell me how im doin if u can pls type anthony mallia videos its not good quality videos but u will know if im in the right direction thankx carl
lol great job. I used to hear this song once in a while and everytime I was like Dayum! I gotta play this it sounds so good and yet so simple. Then I realized that it'sa ctually pretty shitty to learn by hear this rif is much more complex than it sounds
Now I have a strange urge to move refrigerators (as a part of my other urge to do custom kitchen deliveries) and color TVs
What effect should go with the guitar,
Thank tou?...
That’s gold!
@@pavluxaemelyanov1517 Distortion and a partly open wah pedal
What about installing microwave ovens
Pavluxa Emelyanov sounds to me like a wah pedal that’s cocked in a stationary position.
Learning this song gave me a blister on my little finger...
Maybe get a blister on your thumb...
@gay weed custom kitchen delivery, we've got to move these refrigerators, we've got to move these color TVs
did it give you a blister on your thumb?
Sam Khan better than getting a blister on your tongue.
Blister? BLISTER? That makes so much more sense! I always thought it was "pistol" and was like "wtf does that mean?!"
THAT'S THE WAY YOU DO IT
You play your guitar on the MTV
that aint workin

Money for nothing and ya chicks for free!
This has got to be one of the most unique riffs I've ever heard in my life. This is one of the rifts that got me so interested in playing guitar.
After this hopefully I can play guitar on the MTV
If you don't, you may be stuck installing microwave ovens.
And if you fail with the microwave ovens just get banging on the bongos like a chimpanzee
They don't play music anymore on MTV.
Nah you will be too talented for MTV, better to just prance round and lip synch
Instead you're just bangin on the bongos like chimpanzee

I honestly come here because you get the lesson out in less time than all the others. 6:29 was shortest lesson for this riff. Thank you!!!!
I like the way you have the screen split into 3 views. Very useful. Thank you for the tutorial.

Rock n hall of fame must have a place for guitar teachers i know a guy who's wearing black t shirt during guitar lessons and he's name is carl

Learning this song for my mom. Thanks for the lesson, man! You've helped me tremendously.
Same here
0:11 (Homer simpson driving his Ice cream truck in the distance)
Awesome, finally someone did the opening to this song correct! great work and thanks Carl!
mark play correct ! Not him.
Morgan 11k get lost.
Morgan is right. Knopfler does downstrokes with his fingers. Every guitarplayer has a version of this song, very few play it right.
Mark uses his thumb a lot. It gives his riffs character and substance, and there wasn't enough of it in this version.
@Ryan R.W. exactly pavel is the best MK teacher I have ever seen
Thanks man! That’s the way you do it!
Always wanted to play this as a kid.. now i can.. love your lessons man.. thank you!
The only videos I've seen on the internet with 0 dislikes...rock on
I always thought who gets a blister on their thumb playing guitar? After attempting to finger pick like Mark Knopfler, I realized it was me.
Thanks this tut. Really helped. Played this vid over and over and tabbed and re-tabbed as I went along. It sounds really awesome.

Pleeeeeaase cover the solo and other lead work in this song! Cheers
where is the tone lesson?
Good tutorial but around 4:45 it gets kind of muddy, what exactly do I play follow the hammer on to GB strings?
Really good lesson thx. Is there a guitar tone video for this song because the would really make it sound cool?

I need help on 3:50 I have no idea how he does it
Play closer to the bridge and very lightly press. It’s gonna sound different depending on what guitar you’re using
4:27 thumb on the d string? Wat I am confusion
pick the d string with your thumb, sounds confusing at first
SaltiFinger _ using the right thumb.
He's talking about the top left view I was also confusion
Super helpful instruction for this classic riff!
Great job Carl, on this and all of your lessons! Do you have printable tabs by chance? That'd be extra awesome!
Hello, this is great, thank you! If I want to get this type of tone, what sort of guitar would you suggest I use and /or any other equipment suggestions? Thanks!!
Does the low E ring the WHOLE time?
I always thought this song was so difficult to play until you explained it
Love the multiple angles. Thank you!
"Played by Martin Offler, of course..." 😂
So the subtitle says.
Nevermind. Thanks for the lesson.
I keep accidentally muting the b string or the g string when I'm trying to play and I can't get it. Any advice?
Keep practising
make sure you barre the bottom 4 strings... it makes it easier if you barre all of them; d,g,b,e even though you dont need the high pitch e for this just barre all
I wish you would say what pedals you use in these tutorials
Maybe I'll get a blister on my little finger from playing this.
Did you end up doing the tone tutorial? Great lesson.
I love Dire Straits and this song. Thanks for the video I am trying to learn guitar, this is super helpful!
Thanks bro… feels awesome to play this got me some goosebumps
hey carl love your lessons man, just wondered if you could do anymore dire straits? so far away maybe? tunnel of love?
Can you do the solo sections?
I’m not gonna say he beats Marty Schwartz’s video for this tutorial but he does this was a really good one
I’m knee to guitar how do you tune right and how do you tune this song?
Fantastic lesson, as always, Carl. Cheers, bud
I have no clue what you're doing with right hand. Which strings?
Can you get this sound on any electric guitar ?
Did anybody else notice that white drop fall onto his guitar in 1:52?
Spit Most Likely. Happens All The Time LOL
great lessons Carl
That ain't workin... I'm 6.5 years late to this video
Please please please, what are the other chords in the song? Awesome job on this!
This band I just joined is doing a cover of this song. Thanks for the lesson!

Always thought this was a little odd and complex riff I know when I play I simplify it because I can’t play it right and it sounds ok. I’m not a guitarist. Very cool riff , much skill.
Why oh why did he start with an extra harmonic in the intro but did he not mention it while explaining? It took me way too much time to find out.
Great lesson, thanks!
I tried learning this but I got a blister on my little finger and one on my thumb
Thx man, it is correct.

*Needed* this
Yep learnt the riff in about half hour 🤘
Thanks Carl
I cant play this so I have to work 60 hours a week for my money and pay for my chicks.
Cheques
@Joe Roscoe Yeh you're probably right. We'll go with "Chicks" I've got bigger things to worry about as I've just test positive for Covid.

Hi, how is your AMP tuned?

Very nice guitar and video.
Much like it, great tutorial ;)

Should've call it "Money For Nothing Geetar Lersson"

Hey, if any1 wants an easy way to kinda get that tone if u have a wah pedal if u tilt it up about half way thatbgets a rly close sound
Great lesson! Thanks Carl
Please do Walk Of Life🙏
For a 'close enough' version just strum/ pluck the strings
Thinkin of doing this haha
you sound sick mate
Hey dude, your guitar lessons are awesome!! The one thing you could do better is to go slower when teaching. But otherwise your lessons are great!
You can reduce the speed of the video. It makes Carl sound drunk, but it helps.
Good lesson, thanks
do you have a tab for this number
what guitar is he using?
Yes I fucking knew you had a guitar lesson on this song thank you so much
Thanks for lesson
Cheers mate
