    This has got to be one of the most unique riffs I've ever heard in my life. This is one of the rifts that got me so interested in playing guitar.

    Thank you for taking the time to make this lesson. This song is the reason I started playing guitar. I was heavily influenced by a lot of other stuff but this is it. I'm a super beginner, so this a little out off my wheelhouse this week, but it's something to keep working at. Thanks again!

      Morgan is right. Knopfler does downstrokes with his fingers. Every guitarplayer has a version of this song, very few play it right.

      Mark uses his thumb a lot. It gives his riffs character and substance, and there wasn't enough of it in this version.

    Hey, GuitarLessons365Song! This has been really helpful so far, but then when it gets to 3:00 I get lost on what notes your playing and when. Any chance you could send me a guitar tab version of what your playing so I can have that along with the video. I've tried slowing down the video and repeating parts over and over but I can't seem to figure it out. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

      Everyone uses a Les Paul for this song but I was playing it through after learning it from you and I changed a tiny little something on my amp and now my strat sounds like the real thing. I don't wanna change it now😂

      Play closer to the bridge and very lightly press. It’s gonna sound different depending on what guitar you’re using

      make sure you barre the bottom 4 strings... it makes it easier if you barre all of them; d,g,b,e even though you dont need the high pitch e for this just barre all

    Always thought this was a little odd and complex riff I know when I play I simplify it because I can’t play it right and it sounds ok. I’m not a guitarist. Very cool riff , much skill.

    get positive grid bias effects 2 and download the tone from the cloud,,,or do a guitar match straight from audio....enjoying the hell out of it...they have guitar match too to even turn your guitar into any other guitar on top of all of the effects...het some head phones too prevent pissing off the neighbors and a good midi to capture a lot of presets on the floor and you are in guitar heaven

      @Joe Roscoe But if it was "Cheques" it would be correctly spelt "Cheques" not the American "Checks" because it's English so we have the final say. If the English had turned right at Greenland instead of left you'd all be speaking Spanish or French anyway. So say thanks 🤣

    Hmmm...
    The tone is there and this is a lovey tutorial, but that texture that Knopfler gets with the B Flat (that you mention at 2:00) is definitely there when played. You can hear it in the Live Aid performance, although I can't see what his hands are doing.

    lol great job. I used to hear this song once in a while and everytime I was like Dayum! I gotta play this it sounds so good and yet so simple. Then I realized that it'sa ctually pretty shitty to learn by hear this rif is much more complex than it sounds
