Thanks Jay. Your dedication to helping people learn to ride correctly has helped me tremendously. Total Clutch control is the way!

Wow, that’s is fast improvement. I’m practicing total clutch control myself. I wish I was attending your class Jay.

What is being referred to as clutch control in this video was called "friction zone" when I rode as a motor officer.

Using Total Clutch Control is different from what you are speaking about. Many a motor officer has now learned the difference riding patterns with total clutch control as opposed to what u are speaking of. Thanks for commenting and, of course "Thanks for your service as well!"

The idea of the motorcycle drop guards is nice. But I’ve dropped my street glide 4 times during a slow speed class I took and the stock guards did their job perfectly. Zero damage. I don’t see the point in these expensive drop guard.

That is awesome, that you are training! Make sure to check out upcoming videos on some of our Advanced Training we just did with 5 motor officers. They were very thankful they had motorcycle drop guards installed. $300 engine guards, $300 rear saddle bag bard, and the $400 primary covers were all spared damage on all their bikes. Of course, there is always that 1 guy who had taken 2 so-called advanced riding courses, and he thought the same, so he used his factory parts! Oopsie!! Now he is having to buy a new Harley OEM Front Bar $300 plus 2hr labor costs, and Rear Saddle Bars $300 plus 2hr labor, and of course that $450 primary cover also fluids and gasket plus 4hrs labor as he doesn't do his own labor so 8 hrs of labor at the dealers at $125 an hour. But he purchased drop guards for his new parts. Like I always say ya just dont know what ya don't know until ya know. He didn't realize what advanced training consisted of. But whatever works for ya. Thanks for watching! Keep training, Ride safe!

Preload is Robert Simmons' method and refers to keeping the RPMs elevated above idle so that you have engine power available when you release/engage the clutch.

Do not get into the habit you mentioned. Take in person training with a qualified instructor. I went the way you are speaking of and it led to bad outcomes. TCC is the best way I know of. You want to create this habit and it will pay off in tight maneuvers. @motorofficertraining helped me get back in the game and I have taken classes with other parties. One is a retired Motor Officer (Trainer) and also instructs using TCC. Makes everything smoother and quieter. Very Professional sounding, looking and feeling. Sometimes in more advanced courses he has to tell me to use the brake cause I try everything brakeless. In tight formations sometimes you need it.
