How to Lean and Turn your Harley

  • This video discusses common questions and answers to learning slow speed motorcycle skills. Learning how to lean a Harley Davidson motorcycle is scary for many riders. Learning how make turn your motorcycle handle bars to full lock is extremely challenging for most riders of Harley Davidson and Indian motorcycles. This video demonstrates a ten foot cone weave. The cone weave is also used with emergency threshold braking from thirty mph. Many riders think ABS brakes are the best way to stop in an emergency but actually emergency threshold braking is always more efficient. ABS brakes are a back up to proper threshold braking. Learning total clutch control with the motorcycle is very important as well. Raising or Preloading your motorcycle throttle with high rpms is not necessary and can burn your clutch and wear your brakes and rotors when using the rear brakes as a crutch to make slow speed u turns on a Harley Davidson or any motorcycle.

    I just passed my written test ( I decided to get the learners permit this time because I'm basically starting all over again), and I have purchased a 2021 Honda 1100 Rebel but now need to take the endorsement skills test. Unfortunately I don’t have any friends (or even know anyone), that has a (smaller), motorcycle with a manual transmission that I can practice with or borrow for a short period just to go take the endorsement skills test. (The first time I took the endorsement skills test (1983), I owned a Honda 350 with a manual transmission and I had no trouble passing the endorsement skills test the first time).
    Here's the situation. You and everybody else always keep talking and stressing the point about using the friction point and feathering the clutch and also about using the foot lever for shifting gears while doing many different maneuvers such as performing the slow maneuvering moves during the endorsement skills testing for getting your motorcycle license endorsement, or when counter steering and performing other specialized maneuvers etc..
    But. What if you have a motorcycle such as the Honda 1100 Rebel like I do that has an automatic dct transmission and does not have a manual transmission and so therefore it does not have either of those two items?
    So for example, what do you have to do to compensate for the lack of those two items when you go try to take the endorsement skills testing. It’s been over forty years since I last had a motorcycle endorsement on my license, so I’m basically having to start all over again from scratch just because the bike bug bit me once again (thanks to a close friend who let me set on his fully decked out Honda Goldwing 1200), - Yes, even at the age 74 the bike bug still bites (LOL).
    Yes I’ve been practicing for those many different skills test maneuvers but with that automatic and without the clutch and manual gearshift lever I can’t seem to get those skills test maneuvers down pat. I come close, but not close enough to be able to pass each of the different skills test maneuvers in order to pass the test and get my endorsement.
    So what do you suggest that might, will, or would help? But thank for the great training/tips video’s.

      Thank you! They are called Motorcycle Drop Guards. You can find them at motorcycledropguards.com
      They are used by law enforcement agencies all over the U.S. and Canada for training motor officers, Competition riders and thousands of Novice motorcycle riders all over the world use them to protect their factory parts while attaining advanced slow speed motorcycle skills. If you are looking at taking an introduction to slow speed skill training such as Ride Like A Pro or Pro Rider training sessions, lots of their students use them as well.

    Clutch on any MC is the same exact one with a manual car. Very simple. If you don't know how to drive a manual car or have done it before, the question about clutching on MC may be making sense. Other than that, it is like a manual car.

      @BrandonWest87 6 месяцев назад +2

      Neither does my M8 114. Mine idles around 900. Trying to do the TCC method without using any throttle did NOT work for me. I had to bring the RPMs up to about 1200-1500. I tried it with TCC and the bike at idle engine speed and it tried to die on me any time I engaged the clutch even slightly at lean and made it unstable/jerky. Bringing the throttle up a touch worked much better for me.

    I found and subscribed to this channel about a month ago & have watched nearly all of the videos posted. I’m not a new rider, but definitely need to put these techniques into use more. I love the motorcycle crash guards!! And ordering a set this weekend for my 2023 Road Glide. Thank you for taking the time to respond to questions. Some folks don’t have the time to read through all the comments & I happen to be one of them. Keep the content coming please!

    One thing that helped me have better clutch control was getting rid of the stock self adjuster on the clutch cable. Much more of a positive feel throughout clutch lever travel, and more predictable clutch engagement zone in the clutch lever.

    Love your videos. Just wondering, what is your opinion on speed for these maneuvers. I've heard others stress that you have to keep your speed up. Anything less than I think it's 5 mph they say you have more force pulling the bike to the ground than forward momentum keeping it up. They claim you want to be between 6 and 10 mph, but I seem to struggle a little with that. I tend to try and peak at my speedometer instead of looking where I want to go.
