Ikr, I learned competitive sensibilities from this man Seeing hin throw it all away during saga makes me forget that sometimes but I haven't forgotten his teachings
They were both used together for the longest time since both were limited, so not really that much of a powercrept but rather a less powerful option that was still powerful enough and a better option than most cards that existed at the time. .
@@VENGENCE150 It wasn't powercrept because Dark Hole also had other uses like being a better option on Exodia decks and it's effect was functionally the same as Raigeki in many situations. There's been formats where Dark Hole is better than Raigeki.
It's so nice to hear you talking about the TCG again after so long. I hope we get more of these. I personally prefer these discussions over your Master Duel videos.
One of the reasons I use Dark Hole in my Super Quant deck because most opponents don't realize that Great Magnus is unaffected by other card effects besides other Super Quant cards, so they often don't think about negating it when they could because they think it will destroy Great Magnus. It's just a funny way to clear the board while keeping my overpowered beatstick on there.
Dark hole is also really good for Raidraptor players that use a small Rokket engine, if the striker dragon is imperm'd you would normally have to skyp wise strix to go for rusty bardiche which is a really bad spot as wise strix is the most op combo tool RR has. So being able to clear the striker is a really important restart button. I know it's a niche Deck but I still wanted to note it^^ Have a nice day everyone
@@cyberbyte3186 your welcome, I'm happy to help a fellow RR Player ^^ There are so many strange tech options available in this deck, I love it, like prohibition for nib/imperm, simorgh repulsion for back row and to unbrick, so if you know any I would be interested : )
The master duel content is great but I really enjoy your discussion videos because they help me think about the game in a smarter way. Hope there's more to come!
Personally I love the card discussion videos. They really help highlight targeted aspects of the game in ways that larger videos have to normally skip over.
4 years ago I got back into yugioh thanks in no small part to your card discussion videos. I would love to see more content like this again! I also love the series but stuff like this is why I'm subscribed
Also for when Ksatri-La is gonna enter the format, i can definitely see Dark Hole being used even more than ever before. A newfound way to shut down the Ksatrila deck is to give a monster to opponent's field, either with Silent Wobby or Mushroom #2 . That means they can't summon their Ksatri-La monsters, because there is a monster on their field, and they also can't use Lightning Storm or Evenly Matched. So a card to not only get rid of opponent's board but also wipe your board clean to summon Ksatri-La monsters more freely is definitely way better now.
Or they can just summon Rise Heart and link it with Mushroom Man #2 into immovable aussa and then summon mushroom man again and link aussa and mushroom man into Donna and go back to doing their Kshatri-la things. Or gentle eria for Wobby.
@@LChaos2 Well, if you can throw that much charmers into the extra deck then sure, you can out the Mushroom Man or Silent Wobby easily. But if you only play 1 Charmer or 1 Donna tho, they can just snipe the Charmer or the Dona out of the ED with Unicorn and now you are stuck with nothing to summon again. In fact, most Kshatri-La players in the OCG have started to prioritize Unicorn over Fenrir for their end board, because sniping an important ED card is way better, especially in tandem with Number 89's effect.
Wow, the changes in presentation! I mean, before it was pretty much slideshow and basic moving effects; fine for card discussions but seeing the extra effort makes it really pop.
Yours is a word I can often get behind whenever I see one of your discussion videos. I always know going in that I'm going to get clear and valuable information about a card, tech or deck choice, and I am also likely going to get incredibly good and open minded viewpoints to back it up. That's why I always enjoy a good old Dzeeff discussion vid! While I would like to see more discussion videos, you keep creating what you want dude. It's all entertaining to me nonetheless :)
I like your discussions way more than your series (master saga slaps tho, make that 50 episodes instead of 20 please), it was your discussions alone that got me into "competitive" yugioh in the first place so I'm glad you're running them back
The presentation for this video is a lot better than past card discussion videos. You cut out a lot of the padding that plagued a lot of your older videos and jammed a lot of information, removing a lot of the filler. I understand why you did it in the past but this is certainly a lot better as your audience has become a lot more acquainted with the game. The historical niche uses you went through also helped give a bit of retrospect for when we should look out for this card being playable. All in all, it’s nice to see your content improve for discussion videos like this. Keep up the grind.
Hey Doug! I hope you see this. My name is Henry and we met once in person at Fun 4 All in Ypsilanti, Michigan. I recently saw a clip of MBT reacting to viewers shitting on you in the Master Roulette. The Branded combo for those that don't know uses Branded expulsion. When activated you tribute a fusion monster to special summon 2 non fusions to the field. One on each side. As Ra is a light you usually have this set up when making Albion
Huh, coming back to Yu-Gi-Oh after a year and I see Dzeeff now has music in his videos. Neat. Also Dark Hole being played so much. What the heck did I miss after a year? time to watch.
Yo doug i have an interesting concept for a thing like roulette, pretty much it would be the same way spinning a wheel to pick a specific archetype and you’d have to build a deck around that specific archetype cards only rather than rng pulling them can also play in unlimited because soke cards may be banned or limited for competitive i feel like forcing you to play only that specific type of card makes them not as broken, this would go around until each person has played all of the archetypes, this way going to certain pulls doesn’t hinder the player but rather the skill is in the deck building

I used to play this card when it was legal in early YGO. At the time, I thought it was a slightly inferior version of raigeki everyone could get and I liked it that way. Nowaday, returning with common charity and master duel, it's one of the best board breaker of the first format, and a very potent way to value floating or GY's effects monsters in the second. At the time it was a nice card, nowadays, it's a good card ! Anyway, thanks for the discussion Dzeeff ! ^^
I don't know if if anyone has noticed but certain cards are a countermeasure agent such for example ddd super doom king dark Armageddon cannot be destroyed by such card effect not to mention giving added protection to pendulum monsters in your monster zone every in's and out's like analyse in a unique finger print not to mention the calculat every X factor of a posable outcome
I had some players tried to destroy my monsters but didn't read or known of the card effect I couldn't help but laugh at what an amateur mistake they made 🤣🤣🤣
I just realized that I haven’t seen one of your videos pop up in my feed for a while. Glad to see another one of your videos, your card discussion videos are my favourite.
Playing in the classroom back in the 200X days, Dark Hole is heavily related to my favourite (sadly now mostly unplayable) card: My Body As a Shield. Dark Hole was so powerful, and I thought it was pretty bad ass you could pay 1500 life points to essentially tank a black hole for your monsters. It could still be used against Trap Holes and a few other destruction effects like Fissure. Even in Master Duel where I was playing one copy just for posterity it came in clutch a few times protecting plays from Gear Gamma. I guess technically you could use it to protect your monsters or to stop Gamma whilst also protecting the Iblee you've given your opponent but its probably not enough to justify even the side. Anyway just pouring one out for my favourite Dark Hole counter and favourite card of all time.
I kinda play Earth machines (well, more specifically trains LV10) so lemme say this to you, Raigeki and Dark hole aren't the best way to deal with them. Try less common removal options like sac opponent's monster or Kaijus, but obviously not the lv10 machine one. edit: nvm I misread, I thought u were saying that raigeki and dark hole were good options AGAINST earth machines, my bad.
I had kind of dipped away from the channel because I don't know enough Yugioh to enjoy watching a full duel, so I'm glad to see more of these "explainer" type videos that brought me to the channel in the first place.
Well, this is a welcome surprise! Always nice to see Doug "always read yours and your opponents' cards" Zeeff talk about competitive play! (...seriously, how in the world are your personas for competitive play/your series so different on that point? I'm impressed.) Just an idle thought, an interesting discussion to have would be one on how one should learn from one's past games, especially when one has a recording available. Being able to go back through one's games, find what one should've done differently, and incorporate that into one's play is an invaluable skill, but it's not one that is often taught. Even over in the FGC, where I'm from, we don't really have any discussions on this that I've encountered. We're the group that normally has all the theory for our games worked out and recorded for everyone to access freely, and not even we talk about how to review one's own play! I think it would be worthwhile for (more, if some already do) videos on the topic to exist, so if you think you can do that well... I'd suggest you consider it.
Legitimately considering it in my md decks, to combat the branded bs. Works particularly well with my icejade as they have a lot of destruction protection.
Thx for pointing out the Martha thing, this obnoxius guy at locals always goes for a ojama trio rivalry side and the dark hole makes so much sense I feel stupid for not realizing earlier
There’s a tech tear played before Ishizu where you would summon Destrudo using a tear and use the synchro 7 to go into Black Rose and lemme tell ya wiping ur monsters on turn 3 is pretty good when it gets rid of your opponent’ board and go cl3
No sleight to you, but I really miss these discussion videos. I wish you released like 1 every week or even every 2 weeks. I love your break downs and the topics are always unique and good.
omg!!! I've been missing your competitive analysis sooo much, definitely one of the best Yugitubers in that regard. And did you get a new mic? Audio sounds crisp!
I've been extra evil lately and have been running Uninterrupted Kaiju Slumber. Same effect but we both get monsters in the end, plus they may guess more Kaiju's are coming lmao
Boils down to modern Yu-gi-oh having monsters unaffected by card effects and using the graveyard as a resource more than ever before. The 'downside' of Dark Hole over Raigeki in that it destroys and sends your monsters to the graveyard isn't applicable if your monsters want to be there and you're not losing tempo as a result (e.g. floaters). Great case use for Dark Hole would be the Advanced Crystal Beasts deck archetype. Dark Hole can be used to 'free' your Crystal Beasts being used as XYZ materials, bringing Rainbow Dragon online and clearing the opponents monster zones for a potential OTK. Raigeki would only destroy your opponent's monsters. This is also why we're seeing Necrovalley being ran either in the main deck or being side decked now. Locking an opponent out of their graveyard with an archetype that relies on it more than you, without an answer in hand, can lead to an instant forfeit. It also being a field spell protects it from some removal beyond a generic Harpies' Feather Duster.
Ironic you mention the branded expulsion into Ra combo because Konami just added that FTK to Master Duel. Forbidden Drop and Dark Hole are the only outs
I currently run dark hole in my dino deck mainly for synergy with lost world, normal summon baby, give a token, and then dark hole to board to get my combo going.
Baiting negates is one of my favorite uses of Raigeki as well. Opponent has Baronne and I drop Raigeki, of course the negate comes out, and then I begin playing the cards I actually need.
Can you really call that baiting a negate? If they don't negate raigeki they lose their monsters. They don't have the biggest choice there, it's negate now, or you don't at all
Hey Doug! I am a causal master duel player... I mean, playing yu-gi-oh back in my country was a little bit difficult. I would love a series or streams on how to create good, cheap, fun master duel decks. Or also about the cards... :)
I have built a lot of decks by playing F2P, the thing is that you have to get all the free gems every day and also be very patient. Funny thing to keep in mind, quite often an expensive deck, like blues eyes, is not nearly as competitive as a cheap deck like Floowanderezee.
@@Ragnarok540 Thank you very much! That helps a lot!! I built Floow before... and it worked quite well, but it is a little bricky now thanks to the banlist.
A few years ago I was just playing Yugioh on an app to kill some time. I was using Kozmo against a com of Yugi's grandpa. By some bad luck he managed to pull out Obelisk the Tormentor. I had no idea how to get past it. Nothing to get over it, it couldn't be selected for destruction, and couldn't be beaten by battle. I thought I was gonna have to forfeit and start again. Then I see the little Dark Hole in my hand and realize, "It's only a problem if I select it. If I don't..." Nuke the field, got Obelisk out of there, and because it was Kozmo, replaced everything I lost. Probably meant nothing in the grand scheme, but special in my heart.
I'm actually working on a competitive level fringe/rogue deck build using a bunch of old cards and some new cards. Thinking xyz and the other more modern mechanics might make the God cards Playable and have uses beyond just big boss monsters.
Dark hole finally joined it's brother Heavy Storm. Cards original meant to be "restrictive" since it can remove your spells and traps from the field now can be played on advantage of removing your own specific cards to better plays.
I think you got mixed up when you talked about Ra’s disciple and branded retribution. The card you’re referring to is branded expulsion and it puts ra’s disciple on the opponents field which is a good thing.
Dark Hole parallel to the banned backrow removal card, Heavy Storm. Both of them have their supposedly powercrept version of them but turn out they are more useful in high-level play than their powercrept counterpart. You can destroy your own Tearlament with Dark Hole, that’s more useful than its powercrept version which is Raigeki.
What’s so interesting for me … I started playing yugioh at age 5 and I always, and to this day, see Dark Hole as an eye - the center hole is the pupil and the outside area is the skin / eyebrow etc. I cannot unsee it to this day! Anyone else??
I'm so glad to see TCG stuff and not Master Duel. I like the master Duel stuff, especial Roulette, but I started watching this channel for the discussions
Need more discussion video on anything, really. Made at least 10 min long but no longer than 20 minutes. Only reason I sub because you were doing that.
This card normally became pointless after Reigeki left the limited list but I saw the potential. If your deck has cards that need you have no monsters and you have a greater than 25% chance of seeing Knightmare Corruptor Iblee (seriously... who designed that? Being floodgated out of special summoning from the extra deck hurts, but this thing allows you to lock your opponent out of their main deck), then I'd say Dark Hole is awesome. The fact that it was an out to Mystic Mine is kind of a hilarious bonus.
Oh man it's been a while since I've seen any discussion like videos on cards ans I really love those typed of videos on this channel, would love to see more of these videos made

There’s a tech tear played before Ishizu where you would summon Destrudo using a tear and use the synchro 7 to go into Black Rose and lemme tell ya wiping ur monsters on turn 3 is pretty good when it gets rid of your opponent’ board and go cl3
Thanks for been one of the best Yugioh "notice" channel
Great video, man! Can't wait for more single card analyses!
Please keep making discussion videos it's the content is subbed for
I've been extra evil lately and have been running Uninterrupted Kaiju Slumber. Same effect but we both get monsters in the end, plus they may guess more Kaiju's are coming lmao
2:36 bro really talked about Ra lock and confidentially put the wrong branded trap to represent the combo 💀💀💀
If the Ridge Wallet came with those Fabled Cards I'd have to pick one up
Boils down to modern Yu-gi-oh having monsters unaffected by card effects and using the graveyard as a resource more than ever before.
Yeeeee card discussion video! I love these, please keep doing It!!!
They don't have the biggest choice there, it's negate now, or you don't at all
I can't really say that you're wrong. I guess it's more eating through the negate.
Oh you have no idea how much I fucking missed these type of videos
ok I was not expecting fables alongside the sponsored vid. very cool hahaha
I miss these videos, please bring em back! ^-^
I always love when old cards, OG cards suddenly have current meta applications.
The reason I know your channel is because of your “Why ____” videos. Of course I want more!
I was just wondering if you would ever come back to these
I've always loved and preferred Raigeki. I'm even running 1 in my main deck and siding 2.
Man I love all the new Master content but I miss these for sure, hope to see more eventually
These kind of videos are why I fell in love with your channel.
I’ll have to dig mine out. Just recently, I pulled a super rare dark hole out of a lob pack funnily enough.
It also depends on the deck you are running. Decks like Gusto, Firekings and Nephthys have no problem using Black Hole, they even get a plus from it.
I missed this type of video, I hope you have more in the vault
I have Dark hole irl it was my only Yugioh card back in the day until now and I found it between my thosuands of pokemon cards randomly
I used Dark Ruler No More and Dark Hole to clear my opponent’s board, because of all of there negates they had on board. It was beautiful.
Oh man it's been a while since I've seen any discussion like videos on cards ans I really love those typed of videos on this channel, would love to see more of these videos made
Dark hole always had my favorite art out of the boardwipes. Just imagine a fucking huge black hole that just destroys everything
