If they actually tried to steal them it would be a problem. But remember that first they need to defeat the victim in a children's card game. And If they are in need of those trash cards, they'll likely lose anyway.
I plan on making both an Egyptian God deck and sacred beast deck for the nostalgia at the very least, though I would actually play the sacred beasts at a local so if you could do that video of why people don't play sacred beasts I would appreciate it
Last time I played slifer, the opponent took control of my revival jam and I had to draw 3 cards every time until I ran out and lost the duel and was sent to some dimension hell. Took me years of therapy to get back to society. So yeah… never doing that again
Why not give them the same abilities they had in the manga and show? They’re suppose to be “ultra rare” “forbidden” at first and were made such a big deal out of bc or their lore only to be reduced to this…
Well actually, if you possess all three of the Egyptian god cards you will have the limitless power of the ancient pharaoh himself and be undefeatable in any duel. Consider yourself incorrect, Señor Zeeff.
and here I thought dzeeff told us Yu-Gi-Oh! was not a spectator sport........I'd like to see ppl fried to a crisp while playing a Children's Card Game! A-Am I ........evil?
I wished the real version of Ra maintained one its perks from the show; being that it gains the ATK/DEF of the three monsters tribute to summon it. I fee like that would at least make Ra useable.
@@ChangedMyNameFinally69 (don’t remember some names sorry) Have Ra Sphere Mode, metal slime trap, guardian slime, reactor slime, or Soul Crossing spell. If you do- Summon Slim God. Another Spell card puts Ra in hand from deck or graveyard, allows you to tribute summon this turn (Use that for another god). Spell can be banished from graveyard next turn (Not in same turn). Ra gets the att/def of sacrificed monster and starts with 3000/3000 (or the enemy creatures if you soul crossing). Ra effect on traditional summon gives all but 100 LP in att. Ra trap activates this as well without the traditional summon, attack with ra then activate this card for the attack and to absorb the hp back (+ the 3000). Ra Spell tributes monsters who didn’t attack or use effects this turn for half their att (with two other effects one being a full opponent monster wipe.) I use the hell out of a triple god deck but you have to be careful of fucking up summoning chains
There is a spell card called the ancient chant if you have powerful monsters with high attack or your opponents and you have soul crossing that a good way to do it I used it on a guy with two blue eyes and one max and I had 10000 with 5000 life points lefts so
The God cards should all be unaffected by spells, trap and effect monsters. I mean, you literally summon a god and you can just like that destroy him with Dark Hole. Doesn't make sense to me.
@@alanmagana6891 all the gods say "when this card is summoned: your opponent can't activate card effects" This only works during the summon of the gods, so your opponent can't activate cards like bottomless or torrential. After that, they're all fair game except obelisks targeting immunity
@@phantomnite can obelisk can be affected by card effects as long as he is not targeted by them? Like a card that is non targeting and general will it bypass obelisk's immunity?

@@relaxationmeditation499 It's not "up to 100", it's "until you have 100 left". You need to tank your life points on Ra for it to get more than 0 attack points
@@phantomnite I was just trying to emphasise that Ra can still be a little bit useful while not risking yourself to losing by avoiding the first effect. But you made a good point, overall speaking it’s still shit haha.
Before you leave a confused comment: Yes, Ra's pay life points effect is optional, Dzeef misread that. However, if you do choose to activate the effect, you *have to pay down to 100LP* . Obelisk cannot be targeted by spells or traps, but it can still be destroyed, banished, sent to the grave, sent to the hand, shuffled into the Deck etc. Cards only target if they specifically say "target" on them. If they do not say "target", they do not target. Dark hole simply says "Destroy all monsters on the field." Not once does it say "target", therefore it does not target, meaning by activating it you can indeed destroy obelisk since he is not being targeted.
Back in middle school I summoned Ra and paid all my life points and destroyed all my opponent's monsters. And I was hella cocky and gave my friend one last turn- annnnddd he top decked Sparks and I lost.
I was really young when I was watching YuGiOh when these cards were introduced and I remember feeling very dumb, like "why is this Ra monster considered the strongest of the 3? Its effect sucks. They also made it out like Obelisk was the worst of the 3". This video was such a blast from the past and validated my 8 year-old self lol
Didn't Ra got all the ATK und DEF Points of the Monsters tributed combined in the anime, with the sacrifice LP for atk and def part being normally used when it was special summoned?
@@horusschnopp1882 I think Ra would be a bit better if it just would have the two iconic anime effects, getting the atk and def of tributes and optionally transfering LP to atk and def, which can be used for a quick hard hit if special summoned. Like, that effect actually made sense in the anime, he used it to finish his opponent off with one final attack after special summoning ra.

*Sarcasm* Actually Winged Dragon of Ra is very good all you need are 8 almost unsearchable cards for a super efficient combo!!!! -Summon 3 Gillasourous from hand -Summon Ra -Heal with three Poison of the Old Man -Kill the three monsters summoned by the Gillasourous with Ra's effect -Equip Ra with axe of despair -Swing for game Your also going to want to run Fox Fire, Ancient Gear, and Chaos Max Dragon for the consistency boost. Good Luck!
Imagine getting to the position of being able to summon The Winged Dragon of Ra, you are about to make your one hit attack move and BOOM the guy uses Sparks to wipe you out
I played Bye Bye Damage against a Ra summon once in Master Duel. Funniest shit ever. Though its very easy to build around Ra without killing yourself. Just play a Sacred Beasts deck and use Awakening of the Sacred Beasts. The first effect alone gives you LP based on the ATK of your opponents normal and special summons, thus limiting their options for comboing and risking Ra being a nuke if its summoned before or after the LP shenanigans. Let alone if you get Hamon on the field in defense then your pretty much set. This video is 4 years old and very out of date as you can make a very competitive deck out of these cards, especially against the current meta decks.
@@francisharkins Or just play ra in aromages. It works way better than the sacred beast support. The gods arnt really thst good still. Sure you can build a deck with them but they still arnt good. Against pros in a competitive setting, they wont win. Master duel, however, you can win, if your opponent doesn't have the cards to beat them, which most decks do these days
I remember back when Ra wasn't an official card, the idea was it would gain the base atk and def of the tributed monsters, which would make much more sense than paying all your LP.
That has been my understanding of ra from day 1, he gets the atk and def of the tributed monsters and then you may also add life points to further boost atk... clearly i have been wrong
That can still technically happen but you need to use the graveyard effect of Ancient Chant, then it gains the attack and you get another normal summon that turn. So the combo is -Activate Ancient Chant to search Ra -Summon Ra’s Disciple and use its effect to summon two more -Banish Ancient Chant to get another normal summon and get the combined attack effect -Summon Ra and pay 7900 LP And even then it’s pretty shit anyways
Here's the thing, they could've easily made the God cards meta( and even in the anime, it was THEE top card with the whole gang chasing after those cards) but they didn't. Whoever made the decision to give its garbage effects deserves to get fired. Or at least, "reincarnate" these Gods with better effects. Hopefully they do that in my lifetime but I doubt it.
@@adamh4h4 the anime gods would still be completely unplayable both in dm era where monsters that needed more than 1 tribute were terrible and in modern yugioh, being a high level unsearchable main deck monster that needs your normal summon and 3 tributes is terrible, especially if 2/3 gods don't actually do anything on the field and are just beatsticks
Ah I swear i once played winged dragon of Ra i had 7200LP and i gave them all to Ra..my opponent was pretty desperate and i wanted to see Ra a little longer on the field and make my opponent suffer, after 2 turns he drew a spell card that takes 300 of my LP...and since I had 100 LP left i lost...I felt pretty sad that time xd ;_;
I once played with my friend using a monster called guardian baou. He oneley started with 800 atk but everry time he destroyed a monster he gained 1000 atk. My frieand summoned Sliffer and It was no match thanks to slaying so manny uther monsters.
I feel bad because I lost to an obelisk because I forgot you can't target it and I tried to banish it with black luster solider but was forced to banish my bls instead
LULW imagine getting cheated. If you target an illegal target you also activated an effect illegally and have to rewind to the point where you havent activated bls and you are not forced to use bls
Or better:.................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................Sparks for game............................................................................................
The cards themselves are already out in japan. The combos themselves are pretty good on paper, but awfully inconsistent. Soul Crossing + a god is a destructive combo, but you do need both in your hand, have no way of searching them and either card is useless without the other, also Soul Crossing is kinda risky because if your opponent destroys it too early, you're either forced to make a less optimal summon by activating it in return or you can't even use it at all, which means you end up with a dead card in your hand.
I wish it was the case. The new god support are good but are way not enough. These cards are old and aren’t suited for the current competitive scene. If they’d really want to bring them back, Konami should create support that really compensate the risks and the cost of summoning them.
With the exception of soul crossing konami did Slifer and Obelisk dirty compared to the support ra got in legendary duelists in addition to sphere mode. Obelisk and Slifer didn't even get a search card like ra did
I have no idea why I have gotten so into watching videos about a card game I have not played in 15 years. Thanks for the information was very interesting!
I was a casual player when I was 9 for a little back in 2009. The creatures are so well designed I’ll click on a video like this despite not remember any of the rules I knew back ina day🤣
One interesting use for Slifer I'd heard of, but never seen used - play it in a deck with Black Garden. Effectively your opponent can't summon monsters (except in defense mode) unless they have > 4000 attack. Otherwise Black Garden halves it (giving you a Rose Token along the way, which might have made summoning Slifer easier in previous turns), and then you apply Slifer's -2000 ATK effect, and unless it still has >0 ATK, you destroy it.
@@-El.Inexperto Black Garden always goes first in response chains. Another thing to note that synergizes with Black Garden is Maxx C. As the tokens summoned by Black Garden trigger the draw effect for Maxx C regardless of which side the token is summoned on. So your opponent summons a monster and gives you a Token from Black Garden you get 2 draws from Maxx C. You summon a monster and Black Garden summons a token on your opponents field? You get 1 draw from Maxx C.
the god cards should have a competitive re-release. they could be named shin god cards or something like that. Hell i could see something like that happening in the anime
macro god deck used to be broken. Macros cosmos with D D survivors and Dark Fissure. Survivor returns each end phase if removed from play. So you could get an oblisk and attack with 4000 with no traps/spell/effects stopping that turn AND on the end phase you get all 3 Survivors back. And if I had Ra, he'd have over 5k attack. Then the ban list fucked the deck up. Damn you konami. At least you wont mess up Metal Gear Surv.... sorry couldnt type that without laughing.
I think the funniest thing about the Winged Dragon of Ra is that even if you do pull off the super combo you’re still only doing 7900 damage to your opponent so it’s not even a OHKO 😂
@@boa30 except for dogdwood to reach that many lp, your opponent is probably setting up a ton of negates to make sure you won't even get it out in the first place.
It's kinda weird how Slifer is the only one of the god cards that still has all of its effects from the anime. I wonder how different things would be if Obelisk and Ra got the same treatment Obelisk: You need to offer 3 tributes for this card's tribute summon. This card's summoning cannot be negated and no cards can be activated in response. Cannot be targeted by card effects. You can tribute 2 other monsters you control: Destroy all cards your opponent controls, and if you do, inflict 4000 damage. During the end phase of the turn this card was SS'd, send it to the GY. Ra: You need to offer 3 tributes for this card's tribute summon. This card's summoning cannot be negated and no cards can be activated in response. Cannot be targeted by card effects. This card's original ATK and DEF are equal to the sum of the ATK and DEF of the monsters used for this card's tribute summon. You can pay 1000 LP to target one card on the field: Destroy it. When this card is SS'd from the GY: You can pay any number of LP and if you do, this card's original attack becomes equal to the amount of LP paid and it can attack all of your opponent's monsters once each. During the end phase of the turn this card was SS'd, send it to the GY.
Big Isaac they would at least been decent in the time they came out I would love these cards to be reprinted as Synchro/XyZ. I remember getting Slifer in one of my gift decks when I was younger(currently running a Blue Eyes deck with Azure as a Synchro)
Not.... really. They never really had any type of straight up protection in the anime. The duels are full of people affecting and targeting with all kinds of stuff. What they did have was some weird "god cards can only be affected by stuff for one turn." For example, Yugi could target Slifer with binding magic circle (or whatever it was called) but the card got popped during the end phase. It's also why they die at the end of the turn if they are resurrected. You could translate this as "any card that targets this card is destroyed during the end phase" In the modern game, if they still are to keep the 3-tribute requirement, they'd need "unaffected by card effects" and "cannot be tributed", at which point they might as well have an on-summon effect that states "your opponent reveals their extra deck. If your opponent cannot reveal Utopia the lightning, you win the duel"
shawn redmon anime gods weren’t unaffected by card effects. They were affected by spells and traps (for 1 turn). They weren’t able to leave the field other by card effects besides their own though.
Slifer did not have its full effects. In the anime, the Egyptian Gods could not be affected by effects that would cause them to leave the controller's field, could not have their effects negated, could not be tributed by the opponent, etc., and in the manga, they were even more powerful than this, being virtually unaffected by anything that wasn't directly god-related. All other effects only affected them for one turn, but they couldn't be removed by cards during that one turn. The only effects that removed them from the field in the anime, were cards that didn't exist in the mange (the original source material), and were thus written into the story specifically to remove them. Pyramid of Light was magical in nature, and Ragnarok is an event known for killiing of gods left and right; both showcasing that the writers were simply stuck on how to defeat them, and thus removed them by ways that were unfaithful to their true effects. Unless you could prevent their summoning, your only real way to defeat them would be by battle, and this was not even an option in the manga, as only gods could defeat gods in single combat. Unless you had a two-or-more-monsters combination attack, non-god monsters could never take a god monster down. The gods were, for all intents and purposes, Exodia in single monster form. In most cases, once a god had hit the field, the opponent had already lost. Yugi and Yuki Judai were the only duelists to ever get around that statistic, and only because their opponents messed up while using their gods.
They lack alot of their anime effects, I think Osiris would be banned if it had it's effect of attacking literally every monster your opponent summoned and was immune to effect removal.
+martyn kalendar I like to use the manga versions of the God cards because they are much more consistent and truer to what the God cards really do. The manga/anime version of Slifer would be a problem for much decks to deal with because his second mouth special effect would continuously keep blowing up monsters with 2000 points or less, regardless if they are in ATK or DEF position. Top that off with his immunity to everything and can't even leave the field by any means (he can't be tributed either so Kajins won't work), he's almost impossible for alot decks to deal with. The anime/Manga of Ra is in a class of its own.
In the anime, the God Cards, all three, were unaffected by other cards that weren't another God Card. They should've gotten that effect. They'd be so much better if the only out to them was battle, another god,... or a FUQING Kaiju
+MasterWalt They can't even be tributed. They are the ultimate unkillable monsters. Their manga effects are much more consistent than how they were used in the anime. Kaiba tributed Obelisk for Blue-Eyes which contradicted Obelisk himself because he cannot be tributed. The anime isn't even a good source to see if you want to see the God cards true effects.
Tbh with the overall effect protection and tribute immunity, they'd be the ultimate first turn summon. Konami should've had made them the real thing or skip printing at all.
This kinda happened to Marik with the Winged Dragon of Ra he built his deck around it and he actually didn't win any duels in the battle city finals. He only won because he used shadow magic.
I remember when I was little, I used to have a Winged Dragon of Ra deck, that focused around summoning tribute material and increasing my life points a lot, with card such as: Dian Keto the Cure Master; Mystic Pan; Gift of the Mystical Elf; Draining Shield, etc.
In the Anime, Obelisk's ability lets it inflict 4K damage to "everything" on your opponent's Side of the Field(including their Life Points). Slifer's Effect is pretty much the same as its Anime counterpart, Ra's Anime effect was one of 2 effects: 1. Ra's Atk and Def becomes the total Atk and Def of the Tribute Monsters(Ex: tribute 3 Blue-Eyes White Dragons, and Ra's Total Atk will be 9K) and 2. Use said card(s) such as Monster Reborn for example, to bring it back from the Graveyard, then pay life points to raise its Atk and Def base on the total number of Life Points spent. However, you have to at least have 1 LP left when using this effect, or loose the Duel.
Dude Ra has like 20 f*ing effects on the anime and no thats not hyperboly...for example ..... Cannot be affected by the effect of any card, cannot be tributed by your opponent, when combined with de-fusion gives your LP back, when summoned this card is able to attack immediatly, this card can attack every single monster in each battle phase, the attack of this card cannot be stopped, you can pay your LP whenever you want (the amount still was not optional)but still also was treated as machine type,if the card is in DEF mode every attack is redirected and those are real effects i didnt make them up there is a cool video titled true effects of gods.also I MEAN REAL FOR THE ANIME in reality it sucks :P
@@παναγιώτηςμαυρόπουλος Honestly, if the Egyptian Gods had their anime effects in the actual TCG, they would be WAY TOO OP! Plus, sometimes I felt the Yu-Gi-Oh! anime was making up BS a lot of the time. Such as the Mystical Elf transferring her own attack power, to any monster the player chooses. When in reality, the Mystical Elf is a vanilla monster, NOT an effect monster.
I bet this isn't the type of comment you're expecting, but your comments on Blue-Eyes Chaos MAX Dragon at the beginning of the video have actually changed how I think of cards in a lot of different games and it's helped me to become a better deck builder in a lot of games.. Thanks!
I wish they weren't scared to print on the more OP effects the gods had in the series. Traps cannot be activated to their attacks, they were immune to tons of spell/trap/destroy effects, Ra gained the combined ATK and DEF of the monsters tributed... Seriously, the Ra one upsets me the most. Why did they not want to include such an iconic part of that Ra's kit? I understand those still might not make them playable from a deck setup point of view, but they'd actually have decent impact as a glorified beatstick that is trouble to remove from the field. They're just not worth the setup (probably never were), especially with being so easy to remove once they hit the field. Oh and shoutouts to Horakhty, the most meme card there ever was.
Remember Ra's anime effect? Besides everything stated on the real life card, you choose how many life points to give up for his attack, his base attack is the tributed monsters' attacks combined, and he is unaffected by card effects.
The first one, yes. The tributes giving attack and being unaffected by card effects isn't. Ras only immune during the moment hes summoned, that's it. He doesn't gain attack base on the combined attack of his tributes
Anyone else notice a lot of people romanticizing how "broken" they were in the show? "They were unaffected by everything!", yeah, except for Sacrifice Blast, Command Silencer, Kuriboh, Necromancy, De-Fusion, Class System, Seal of Oricalcos, Ground Erosion, and Magnet Force. And probably a few I'm forgetting. I know they SAID over and over again that they were immune to normal card effects, but clearly they weren't. "They can't be destroyed in battle except with other gods". I've seen this one multiple times and I have no idea where it comes from. They never stated it in the show, and was directly contradicted multiple times. Yugi destroyed Obelisk with his magnet warriors during season 4, and the first time he faced off against Slifer, there was every indication his Buster Blader could have destroyed Slifer since it had more attack points. The only thing that stopped him was Jam Defender still being in effect. "They can't be sacrificed, so Kaijus wouldn't have worked". Again, I see this a lot and there's zero justification for it in the show. Both Yugi AND Kaiba sacrifice their god cards at one point.
And this was the season where Jinzo evaded destruction from Time Wizard because he was essentially stainless and thus he wouldn't rust even after 1000 years. And ultimately despite the cool animation what Yugi ultimately did was to just use a mere destruction spell card to beat Ra in the end.
Funny enough in the manga, Ra loses to magical dimension instead of the anime's ragnarok spell. Also yugioh R manga had the god rank system where wicked avatar and Ra cannot be destroyed by lower gods (slifer, obelisk, dreadroot, eraser [unless you use the spell Divine Evolution on them to rank the gods up]).
@@steviegreenthumb4720 Yeah, but I was just saying, a lot of decks can put out three monsters very easily. Not that you'll only ever summon the gods with those tributes, just that its possible to get three on the first turn

Just found this video by random RUclips suggestion. I don't even watch card games on RUclips although I do play magic the gathering often. Never really played you gi oh but it looks really interesting. Loved the way you presented everything. You got a new sub
Bruh the dark hole spellcard ended friendships when we threw down back in the day. Lol I remember when I got a blue eyes ultimate dragon from a duel. Then the 3 sphinx cards Andro I got through tradesand even had six blues in my deck.
lmao, I love the concept of the Winged Dragon of Friendship. :D I tried a couple times to get it to work, although that was before Sphere Mode and the other Ra support existed. Then you get a nice 7900 ATK beater AND can use his effect multiple times. Admittedly this will never make Ra competitive, but it's casually fun to play.
I wanna do some kind of thought-experiment/fan-rebalance of the god cards now, but I've never played YGO competitively, or at all in months. I do however know Egyptian myth. Ra was the sun god: sunset was seen as Ra voyaging to the underworld for the night, and dawn was seen as rebirth. So what if Ra summoned itself from the graveyard during its owner's standby phase, replenishing the owner's life points each time it did? Slifer was originally Osiris, god of the underworld and agriculture. Life and death as one. He was also the former king of the gods before his death. So what if we gave him the ability to summon servants, only for death to claim them at the end of the turn? Maybe make the level of the summoned monster be limited by the number of cards in your hand, but have Slifer's divine powers waive the need for restrictive summoning requirements? Obelisk is a structure. But torment sounds like it could go with Slifer's Second Mouth, as you said in the video. Maybe make 1 monster sacrifice to attack directly? That could maybe combo with my suggested ideas for the others, Slifer's servants dying anyway and Ra acting as Khepri and rising to health once again as always.
I remember having fun on dueling network with the god cards. I think I used some dark world monsters that let me summon a bunch of them at once, but they had to be discarded if any monster was on the field that wasn't dark world. I would summon 1 god and get the other 2 in the graveyard to special summon them both and fuse them together. People kept asking if Horakthy was a real card lol. I had no idea cuz I didn't really play or get into yugioh, but it was available so I had fun with it
I appreciate you going the extra step with the nebulous moving background. It keeps my attention without pulling focus, versus just staring at a card which would be insanity.
Yeah I never knew why they made them so bad. In the anime, they had tons of broken effects. Like all of them couldn't be destroyed by effects, I believe, and Ra especially had all these other broken effects. Obelisk is the most like it's anime version, but they made it so it couldn't attack after destroying everything. Wiping the field and attacking for 4000 may be busted in the anime, but in the actual game, that's not that broken. Lightsworns do that all the time except for 3000. Slifer I really like, but they got rid of all its protection effects. Ra is the absolute worst. In the anime, he had a ton of effects. His attack equaled the total attack of all the tributed monsters, and the paying LP to increase attack effect was just an added bonus. Also, while Marik did end up paying all but 1 of his LPs, it wasn't restricted to doing so. You could pay any amount of LPs to increase its attack, which is much better. It's like out of all the effects it had, they had to pick the worst ones and also nerf them. Like why? Would the God cards even be broken if they had their anime effects?
Ethan Schmidt Obelisk doesn’t wipe the field and attack for 4000 in the anime. His 2 unique effects are 1.) Tribute 2 monsters: this card’s Attack becomes infinity until the end of the battle phase (quick effect) and 2.) Tribute 2 Monsters : Destroy all monsters your opponent controls and Inflict Damage to your opponent equal to this cards attack (quick effect). Since Obelisk is unaffected by opponents monster effects, even monsters that can’t be destroyed by card effects or are unaffected by card effects still die to this card The universal effect that all the gods share are “This Cards is unaffected by non divine monster effects. This card cannot leave the field by card effects. Spell and trap effects that affect this card only last until this turns end phase. This card cannot be tributed by your opponent. This card’s control cannot be changed. If this card is special summoned, return it to the place it was special summoned from during the end phase.” Those aren’t the exact words Konami would use but you could just look up there effects in ygopro since it has anime and manga cards there for the actual listed effects
Finally, the floodgates are open, now I can say Ra is best god, Dzeeff is a pretty cool guy and I'm glad his channel and the videos he makes have grown so much since this video AND NOBODY CAN STOP ME
I think the god cards might be viable if they had the “unaffected by your opponent’s card effects” clause, and that would make them closer to their power level in the anime.
They'd be more viable - But due to the fact that the gods are main deck monsters, and not extra deck monsters - You would have to rely on drawing it or having an archetye around them that can search them But if we did choose the latter, then it would die hard to handtraps
They would also have to say “Cannot be tributed except by it’s own conditions”. That way it can’t be Kaiju’ed etc. Also “can’t have it’s position changed except by this card’s controller.” As well as “Cannot be sent to the graveyard except by battle” and “Cannot be banished”. It’s a lot yes, but so is the current meta. This would make it banned or at least limited, but it would feel like a “God” card.
Slifer's my favorite, just because of his effect that lets you drain monster's attack by 2000, & destroy it if the monster hits zero. If you aren't an idiot & throw you're whole hand out, nothing should ever have more attack than slifer. I mean, think about the biggest cards you can get out in a single summon. Off the top of my head, Blue eyes, which will drop to 1000 atk, which is Slifer with 1 card.
i've managed too pull out some pretty strong cards in one summon. (based on how much of a beat stick they are) and that cards blue eyes chaos max dragon.
I can think of a way for Obelisk to be an awesome addition to a deck. _[Just keep in mind I don't really play tournaments so if I sound like an idiot, that's why]_ *Step 1:* Find a way to get him to the grave. [discarding is most advised though getting him out of the deck itself works fine] *Step 2:* Special summon him, circumventing the tribute requirement. I suggest from the grave but if you can summon him from your hand then you can skip step 1. [don't worry I'm going somewhere with this] *Step 3:* On the same turn tribute him to summon either Great Maju Garzett or The Tyrant Neptune just to give a couple examples. One gets 8000 attack and the other gets the option of either getting the full effect of Obelisk [plus extra attack and defense] or just keep the points and use the effect of another monster like Drill Barnacle, giving your opponent the biggest middle finger. :D The Tyrant Neptune option particularly also works for Slifer. Just sacrifice it with something with capable points. I'd go with the Tricky so that way you could get Slifer in the grave right quick. Hell if you can somehow work it you can test your theory about Slifers ability going great with Obelisk. Not sure Ra is workable outside of a deck that centers around gaining a lot of LP really fast.
Yeah, that's not that good. Great maju garzett is a terrible card and the tyrant Neptune is banned. Either way, its too much effort and too much resources to use up. You're better off making link plays
@@phantomnite Again, I don't play tournaments, so that wasn't something I bothered with. Although I can DEFINITELY see why Tyrant Neptune is banned. I was just giving an idea.
Ra is the most disappointing. They pretty much made it unplayable. You would have to make an entire deck around it and run 3 copies of regular Ra and still it wouldn't work good. The anime effects (with a few exceptions) aren't even that broken by today's standards. I was very confused by Konami's decisions on all 3 cards. I have had some success with Slifer and Obelisk. But ive always had trouble getting the 2 sacrifices for Obelisks effect. Cards like Scapeghost did help on the summoning side but still.
Christian Colon The anime effects aren’t broken by today’s standards..... what? Obelisk and Ra are basically either almost unaffected beatsticks/OTK machines while Slifer is the ultimate stun. Check out their anime effects in ygopro. They’re not unbeatable by any means but most cards the meta use won’t affect them
Not my favorite "Why Nobody Plays" video. It's nothing you haven't really done yet, and everyone knows the Egyptian Gods are just a fun Billy Deck. That said they're still a blast to play if you've got nothing else to do. That said these are all VALID points on why they don't work in competitive play, they're drastically under powered compared to their Anime Counterparts.
Lol when I posted it the one above mine was "Because the God Card are buried with the millennium items. Of course we can't play the god cards." But reading the comments, it's very clear that I'm drastically underestimating the Yugioh player base lol.
Lol, it's still funny, even though dzeef is correct regarding competition, both Chaos Max, Egyptian Gods, and even other casual bosses are enough for a lot of competitive decks to lose without a Kaiju in hand.
No, their anime counter parts were essentially the same its just somehow they made them seem better than they actually are. I mean Marik made Ra a useless card in real life nearly unbeatable.
lol I remember when I was a kid me and my friends played obelisk completely wrong, we thought he was immune to cards like dark hole because we didn’t know he’s only immune to cards that only targeted him
Dzeef, I know that it isn't just me that would enjoy watching an updated ver of this video (or specifically a Ra deck) with the newest God support, even if the outcome is the same!
Wait, so Ra's famous 'sacrificed monster's ATK and DEF make up Ra's initial ATK and DEF' doesn't exist in the actual card game? Well, there goes the primo reason for using Ra in the first place! Seriously, using Ra's Disciples as the sacrifices would make it pretty damn powerful anyway with 3300 ATK, then give up 1000 or so LP and you can overpower most monsters. And they cut that out to prevent it being overpowered? They're prevented from being overpowered due to the summoning conditions - you need 3 monsters on the field in the first place and the God Card in your hand, which can be pretty difficult to pull off, especially since decks designed to pump out monsters have weak monsters that can be easily dealt with. Besides, they're supposed to be slightly OP - they're GOD Cards.
I personally love how competetive and casual yugioh are so different If me and my brother play yugioh and one manages to even get out a god card on the field, its almost game over for the other one because we arent good enough, nor do we have the right decks to even destroy a god card apart from maybe Sakuretsu Armor or smth similar
KaJuan Weaver they could be targeted in the anime. Not destroyed by effects though.... or leave the field by any way besides battle destruction or their own effect
Basically it’s pretty simple, the Egyptian cards in the TCG actually suck, there are really easy to get rid of, I would rather to face all three Egyptian gods then facing 1 Quasar dragon, so much for god cards :(
I used to play a frog deck that had 2 obelisks and a slipher in it back when I played yugioh (just before pendulums) and I ran skill drain and hardened dragon to fully protect my gods and be able to special summon them. Thanks for the good memories
These cards are the best, when playing against your friends, who watched the anime, but don't actually know the rules because you can just use any anime effect
I think they could eventually be good if you have enough effects to summon them in like your first turn. But then again you would need a lot of cards to do that and it would rather be useful if you can actually attack. Unless you summoned slifer and it destroys the opponents monster that is, but this is also questionable since your opponent could just play another card to get rid of it
Sort the comments by "new" and watch yourself cringing at the number of people who think Dzeef is wrong, and most of em write like they're 10 year olds (which they probably are) These are the people disliking this video
Use Graceful Tear to fix the problem you have with Ra. Add one card from your hand to your opponents hand and gain 2000 LP. Use Ra’s effect then to pay 1000 LP to destroy the monster on the field (if you don’t already have a spell or trap to do that) and attack the opponents LP directly with massive damage thanks to the opening you created.
dzeeff What if there were more cards designed to support the god cards, like a field spell/continuous spell who's effect is "any time an egyptian go card is tribute summoned, any cards used to summon it are shuffled back into the deck, you can then draw 1 card" it's a bit specific and easy to counter, but stuff like that, to ease the drawbacks of summoning a god card.
Also, maybe if Obeliek's effect was "Tribute 2 monsters to destroy all spells and traps your opponent controls, spells and traps cannot be activated in response to this" it'd be a lot better? Kinda like a more powerful Yaichi...
Because the rare hunters would show up and steal them
Inu San And would make 100 of winged dragon of ra copies ;)
If they actually tried to steal them it would be a problem. But remember that first they need to defeat the victim in a children's card game. And If they are in need of those trash cards, they'll likely lose anyway.

Obelisk cannot be targeted by spells or traps, but it can still be destroyed, banished, sent to the grave, sent to the hand, shuffled into the Deck etc. Cards only target if they specifically say "target" on them. Though its very easy to build around Ra without killing yourself. Just play a Sacred Beasts deck and use Awakening of the Sacred Beasts.
So the combo is
-Activate Ancient Chant to search Ra
-Summon Ra’s Disciple and use its effect to summon two more
-Banish Ancient Chant to get another normal summon and get the combined attack effect
-Summon Ra and pay 7900 LP
And even then it’s pretty shit anyways

Revisiting this now that god decks are coming out. Wonder if they will be playable now.
Wait I remember you
The cards themselves are already out in japan.

One interesting use for Slifer I'd heard of, but never seen used - play it in a deck with Black Garden. Effectively your opponent can't summon monsters (except in defense mode) unless they have > 4000 attack. Otherwise Black Garden halves it (giving you a Rose Token along the way, which might have made summoning Slifer easier in previous turns), and then you apply Slifer's -2000 ATK effect, and unless it still has >0 ATK, you destroy it.
but which effect trigger first?, slifer effect say destroy it if the -2000 down it to 0 so if it come first the effect doesnt kill the monster

It's kinda weird how Slifer is the only one of the god cards that still has all of its effects from the anime. I wonder how different things would be if Obelisk and Ra got the same treatment
Obelisk:
You need to offer 3 tributes for this card's tribute summon.
Ra:
You need to offer 3 tributes for this card's tribute summon.
You could translate this as "any card that targets this card is destroyed during the end phase"
In the modern game, if they still are to keep the 3-tribute requirement, they'd need "unaffected by card effects" and "cannot be tributed", at which point they might as well have an on-summon effect that states "your opponent reveals their extra deck.
Slifer has its second mouth eff, albeit not flipping up def position cards.
Slifer the executive producer is op
IT'S SO FREAKING WEIRD agree, i mean he's the Executive Producer so he's pretty strong and powerful back in the day
In the anime, the God Cards, all three, were unaffected by other cards that weren't another God Card.
You know somewhere i can read the Manga? I would love to read up on them.

Thanks
Slifer's Effect is pretty much the same as its Anime counterpart,
Ra's Anime effect was one of 2 effects:
1. Ra's Atk and Def becomes the total Atk and Def of the Tribute Monsters(Ex: tribute 3 Blue-Eyes White Dragons, and Ra's Total Atk will be 9K)
and
"Ra is the worst Egyptian God"
2021: *makes support for Ra, making it the only semi-consistant one*
Pretty much
The first one, yes.
Another good one:
"Kaijus target to tribute!" Never fails to make me chuckle cause of how wrong it is
Tbh if you can afford to tribute 3 monsters, you're most likely winning anyway
Not really. Lots of decks can put out three or more monsters
@@phantomnite If the best thing you can do with 3 monsters on the field is summon a god, your deck sucks.
@@steviegreenthumb4720 Yeah, but I was just saying, a lot of decks can put out three monsters very easily. Not that you'll only ever summon the gods with those tributes, just that its possible to get three on the first turn
@@phantomnite im well aware dude most modern decks get like 3 synchros or xyzs out on the first turn, which is what you would prefer to have anyway lol
@@phantomnite Not back in the day when Yugioh was more sane. 3 monsters to summon a god -> you were winning heavily. Nowadays, 3 monsters is a joke.. because the game is fundamentally different.
It looks like the option to use a God card is to be sure to end the duel on the turn you summon them. Any other turn is risky.
Sphere mode isn't part of the God card strategy? Wut? Also didn't mention Immortal Phoenix.
Sphere mode activate!
Pokepunch hell I actually pulled immortal phoniex from the millennium pack
Why nobody play Egyptian God Cards!?
*Because they're too broken for competitive Yu-Gi-Oh!*
9th Doctor you mean booty?
9th Doctor You have Stratos as a pfp, I'd trust your word with something being broken or even trash lol
Apparently they aren't viable
They were a lot more viable back when they were real gods that actually smote the opponent.
That’s why stratos is banned due to the stupidity like this lol 😂
I love that there is a dude that just goes to this video, sort comments by first, and give a reply to any potentially confused commenter. Turns out I'm not the only one who sometimes go to these kind of videos and read the recent comments lol.
I do it a lot
Just found this video by random RUclips suggestion. I don't even watch card games on RUclips although I do play magic the gathering often. Never really played you gi oh but it looks really interesting. Loved the way you presented everything. You got a new sub
My wife cheated on me for Obelisk the Tormentor.
she cheated on you to get his card, or she cheated on you with obelisk himself?
Obelisk the home wrecker.
I hope they see more support soon. They've just got that cool factor
Bruh the dark hole spellcard ended friendships when we threw down back in the day. Lol I remember when I got a blue eyes ultimate dragon from a duel. Then the 3 sphinx cards Andro I got through tradesand even had six blues in my deck.
I would really like to see a video on the Sacred Beast Gods. Aso, maybe the 3 Evil Gods.
Wicked beasts are goon
Dude what are you talking about, the Ra into Yu-Jo friendship combo is the biggest play you can make!
lmao, I love the concept of the Winged Dragon of Friendship. :D
I tried a couple times to get it to work, although that was before Sphere Mode and the other Ra support existed.
Then you get a nice 7900 ATK beater AND can use his effect multiple times.
Admittedly this will never make Ra competitive, but it's casually fun to play.
Lmao Ra into Yu-Jo reveal Unity three times
I side an Obelisk in monarchs...depending on the opponent and how they play...I'll slip it in between rounds for amusement ☕🐸
This video started my journey into competitive yu gi oh, so thank you!
I had no idea cuz I didn't really play or get into yugioh, but it was available so I had fun with it
This vid reminded me of my Chaos Plant deck I used to run with Shooting Star Dragon. One of the funnest decks I ever played.
I appreciate you going the extra step with the nebulous moving background. It keeps my attention without pulling focus, versus just staring at a card which would be insanity.
That’s a nice god card you have their. It’d be a shame if someone kaiju’d it.
TheDaltonGillespie or did anything else.....
The thought of a big turtle eating actual gods is still hilarious to me
Fun fact: i just realised one of the graves in call of the haunted reads "κοναμι" which is greek spelling for konami
I was wondering when someone was gonna go into depth with these legendary cards, good video
I remember being in middle school when the playable gods came out and even then I thought they were pretty underwhelming
Ethan Schmidt They'd be at the very least mediocre
Jo-Smooth that sounds awesome. At least keep those unaffected by non divine beast card effects
Obelisk is a chunky boi
swole
Mom said it's my turn on the xbox
Finally, the floodgates are open, now I can say Ra is best god, Dzeeff is a pretty cool guy and I'm glad his channel and the videos he makes have grown so much since this video AND NOBODY CAN STOP ME
You should talk about managa cards that rarely got played
I think the god cards might be viable if they had the “unaffected by your opponent’s card effects” clause, and that would make them closer to their power level in the anime.
They'd be more viable - But due to the fact that the gods are main deck monsters, and not extra deck monsters - You would have to rely on drawing it or having an archetye around them that can search them
But if we did choose the latter, then it would die hard to handtraps
_[Just keep in mind I don't really play tournaments so if I sound like an idiot, that's why]_
*Step 1:* Find a way to get him to the grave. [discarding is most advised though getting him out of the deck itself works fine]
*Step 2:* Special summon him, circumventing the tribute requirement. I suggest from the grave but if you can summon him from your hand then you can skip step 1. [don't worry I'm going somewhere with this]
*Step 3:* On the same turn tribute him to summon either Great Maju Garzett or The Tyrant Neptune just to give a couple examples. One gets 8000 attack and the other gets the option of either getting the full effect of Obelisk [plus extra attack and defense] or just keep the points and use the effect of another monster like Drill Barnacle, giving your opponent the biggest middle finger. :D
The Tyrant Neptune option particularly also works for Slifer.
Of course we can't play the god cards."
But reading the comments, it's very clear that I'm drastically underestimating the Yugioh player base lol.
Lol, it's still funny, even though dzeef is correct regarding competition, both Chaos Max, Egyptian Gods, and even other casual bosses are enough for a lot of competitive decks to lose without a Kaiju in hand.
Or Santa Claws.
Jason Clark - Santa, Lava Golem, ironically Winged Dragon of Ra Sphere Mode
No, their anime counter parts were essentially the same its just somehow they made them seem better than they actually are. I mean Marik made Ra a useless card in real life nearly unbeatable.
lol I remember when I was a kid me and my friends played obelisk completely wrong, we thought he was immune to cards like dark hole because we didn’t know he’s only immune to cards that only targeted him
Dzeef, I know that it isn't just me that would enjoy watching an updated ver of this video (or specifically a Ra deck) with the newest God support, even if the outcome is the same!
blue eyes casual players incoming defending their Chaos Max Deck which went 2-3 in regionals and is totally not trash.
Dzeeff I'm so sorry, I didn't realise the flood of dummies never stopped
True but they are not rare to the point of being hard to get
I personally love how competetive and casual yugioh are so different
If me and my brother play yugioh and one manages to even get out a god card on the field, its almost game over for the other one because we arent good enough, nor do we have the right decks to even destroy a god card apart from maybe Sakuretsu Armor or smth similar
I mean... When i was young i could go to the card shop and get myself a playset of kaiju for about a dollar.
@@arthurmorganlefaye7626 Good for you.
@@djwiggles666 who even needs a god card when you can slap your opponent with a turtle
My reason: I'm waiting on the REAL printing of the God cards where my opponents can't target it or destroy it with card effects
KaJuan Weaver they could be targeted in the anime. Not destroyed by effects though.... or leave the field by any way besides battle destruction or their own effect
Non-targeting and non-destruction removal has been an easy thing to do for a while now though.
Dark ruler
Basically it’s pretty simple, the Egyptian cards in the TCG actually suck, there are really easy to get rid of, I would rather to face all three Egyptian gods then facing 1 Quasar dragon, so much for god cards :(
Nearly 1 mil views, Doug.
This constitutes a celebration
I used to play a frog deck that had 2 obelisks and a slipher in it back when I played yugioh (just before pendulums) and I ran skill drain and hardened dragon to fully protect my gods and be able to special summon them. Thanks for the good memories
These cards are the best, when playing against your friends, who watched the anime, but don't actually know the rules because you can just use any anime effect
I think they could eventually be good if you have enough effects to summon them in like your first turn. But then again you would need a lot of cards to do that and it would rather be useful if you can actually attack. Unless you summoned slifer and it destroys the opponents monster that is, but this is also questionable since your opponent could just play another card to get rid of it
Sort the comments by "new" and watch yourself cringing at the number of people who think Dzeef is wrong, and most of em write like they're 10 year olds (which they probably are)
These are the people disliking this video
😂
Use Graceful Tear to fix the problem you have with Ra.
Add one card from your hand to your opponents hand and gain 2000 LP.
Use Ra’s effect then to pay 1000 LP to destroy the monster on the field (if you don’t already have a spell or trap to do that) and attack the opponents LP directly with massive damage thanks to the opening you created.
What if they let you draw three cards when summoned to compensate? That would turn Slipher into an absolute beast at any rate.
You can pretty much give any bad card "draw 3 cards when you summon this" and it'll be good lol
dzeeff What if there were more cards designed to support the god cards, like a field spell/continuous spell who's effect is "any time an egyptian go card is tribute summoned, any cards used to summon it are shuffled back into the deck, you can then draw 1 card" it's a bit specific and easy to counter, but stuff like that, to ease the drawbacks of summoning a god card.
Also, maybe if Obeliek's effect was "Tribute 2 monsters to destroy all spells and traps your opponent controls, spells and traps cannot be activated in response to this" it'd be a lot better? Kinda like a more powerful Yaichi...
If mound of the bound creator can't save them, nothing can.
dzeeff Yeah, but not all the bad cards claim to be gods!
