    You have to build the right deck for Exodia to work. I've actually created an unstoppable deck and here are the cards I use:
    1x Exodia the Forbidden One
    1x Left Leg of the Forbidden One
    1x Right Leg of the Forbidden One
    1x Left Arm of the Forbidden One
    1x Right Arm of the Forbidden One
    35x Pot of Greed
    Suffice to say, my success with this deck has been unparalleled.

      Pretty much.
      Exodia isn't a bad card by any means, it is in fact the best card with a built in win condition since what is required for this win condition is something that you want anyway and that is to draw. The problem with Exodia is that, if it were to become meta, that would be terrible for the game as a whole and anytime it starts to get some steam with a new consistent draw engine, this draw engine gets hit (or it benefits from an engine that is also degenerate elsewhere and is thus hit but it is the same thing regardless)
      All in all, Exodia isn't bad in the slightest, it is very very good, and that's why it doesn't see play, because it truly is the forbidden one (or in this case I'd use a direct translation of the French localisation which I find very fitting, it is Exodia the Damned/the Accursed, because it is too good and has to be sealed away and everything that touches it has to be as well, this is his curse)

    If anyone's still confused about the trap card FTK that beats out Exodia that's mentioned at the end of the video, here's how it works.
    1. Use the draw spell Upstart Goblin to put your opponents LP to 9000 or more.
    2. Use the draw spell Into the Void, that discards your hand in the End Phase.
    3. After hitting a dead end on your draw streak, set 3 cards and pass turn. Your hand will be discarded.
    4. Play Wall of Revealing Light - pay 7000. Chain Magical Explosion. Chain Life Equalizer. Chain resolves: opponent has 3000 LP, then takes over 4000 damage from Magical Explosion as you're running 20-30 Spell Cards. You win the game.
    If you take first turn, your opponent can't even use Quick Play Spells at the start of their turn to destroy your backrow - if they do, you just chain your cards in response. There's no way to stop the combo after the 3 cards are set and the above conditions are met.

    • @sephikong8323
      @sephikong8323 4 года назад +7

      In the case of Exodia that's simple : unban/unrestrict the big draw cards (Pot of Greed, Graceful, Disc Commander, Destiny Draw etc)
      Is it a good idea ? No, absolutely. If Exodia becomes meta then it becomes a very bad meta as a consistent Exodia deck is the best deck imaginable and you'd have no reason not to play it and the game would just become FTK after FTK. Exodia isn't a "good" competitive card because it is too good to be made consistent and it is the driving force behind a lot of the bans even if not the main one, it is sort of the Pandora's Box of the game, if you let too many good draw cards in then it will become too consistent and wreck the meta.

      @VGamingJunkieVT 4 года назад +3

      @@sephikong8323
      Not even just instant victory cards, cards that let you draw with little to no cost make it really easy to set up long chains and win that way. If there was a card that says "Draw 2 cards but you cannot activate any card effects that state you win the duel", it would still probably be way too OP.

    • @sephikong8323
      @sephikong8323 4 года назад +6

      @@VGamingJunkieVT Draw cards are op for a different reason though. They are OP because they are splashable, there is not a single deck where you would not want to play Graceful Charity or Pot of Greed since they have no drawbacks (I mean Graceful Charity had a drawback at first ....... except that now it would almost be the best effect of the card for certain decks), and this theoretical card's only drawback would only be so for Exodia deck, so everyone else would play it. What makes Exodia OP is that it's win condition is tied to this same thing that you want to do anyway : draw.
      Whereas you can slap any draw card without drawbacks into any deck, Exodia is the best card to take advantage of said cards as you don't require more to win the duel, you don't have to invest those ressources you draw into field control, you just need to use them to draw more and thin your deck for that win. Basically : drawing cards are broken because "why would I not play them ?" Whereas Exodia is broken because "if I have a draw engine that can trim my deck, why would I play anything else than Exodia ?". Both are degenerate and stem from the fact that cards are the only ressource in the game tbh

    • @VGamingJunkieVT
      @VGamingJunkieVT 4 года назад +1

      Why are you reading this ?
      True, and misunderstandings tend to come from people who play other card games where you need to spend resources to make any moves. With Yugioh, you can play cards all you want and the only limit is one normal summon per turn.

    Simply put Exodia, Dark Magician, Blue Eyes White Dragon and other cards from the original first series are the OG pioneers of the game. As the game evolved, they became useless, but to keep them in use, like he said, they tend to be the stepping stones of powerful XYZ and Synchro cards.On a similar scale...The God Cards. Back then, there was so much hype with them, but eventually people began to realize, they actually suck compared to many fusion synchro and XYZ cards, but like I said, they are the OGs of the game and like all OGs, they still get their mad respects.

    I think that [Motion wave cannon] combined with [Swords of Revealing Light] is a very easy win condition.
    Especcially if you have cards that can prevent your opponent from destroying your spell cards so that you dont have to reset the MWC.
    After you place the Motion Wave Cannon, it begins powering up, when you activate it it deals how many turns has passed since you placed it times 1000.
    If you have multiple motion wave cannons that you can place them at the same time and can win in 4 or 3 turns.
    Only way of countering the mwc is by destroying it, it has no requirements for staying on the field.
    Your opponent probably doesnt have a lot of spell card destroyers, so if you place one then survive for 8 turns, you win.
    Hell, add Messenger of Peace(?) into the mix and altough it deals 100 damage to you at the start of your turns, it makes it so that monsters with 1500 or higher ATK cant attack. Place a monster with 1500 atk or def and you are safe from battle damage.

      I only won against that AI because it kept destroying its spell cards to (re)summon monsters that I could destroy via brute force or card effects.
      But I have to ask, why does it fail? It feels like(and in my experience) is just a really easy way to do a lot of damage to your opponent. Definitely more reliable than Exodia too.

    • @Dzeeff
      @Dzeeff  6 лет назад

      The basic reason Wave Motion Cannon has never been good is that it just sits there and does nothing. It takes severeal turns to do significant damage so by the time it's decent your opponent will have either already won or they'll have drawn a spell destruction card

    • @carpedm9846
      @carpedm9846 5 лет назад

      @@Dzeeff thanks for explaining it to me, though I suppose if you were to have other spell cards that are quite effective the WMC could be a distraction to keep those spell cards on the field, or to keep the opponent from destroying the WMC which could deal like 4000 damage which is not that bad.
      Cards like burden of the mighty or other continious spell cards that give the contoller a high advantage could be protected this way I think. Thus while WMC wont be able to do much as it will be hit by the spell destruction card before it can deal damage close to 8000, it can act as a sort of a scare tactic I guess?

    I had a Dueling Network friend back in 2012, we devised an lockdown type of Exodia deck. the main play style was, activate cards like Skill Drain, Imperial Custom & Metal Reflect Slime backed by two Dark Bribes or two Fake Traps (Back in 2012, we also run cards likes Upstart Goblin & One Day of Peace @ 3) or alternate combo switch out Reflect Slime with Scrubbed Raid, other defensive cards that were used are Prohibtion, Nimble Momonga, Battle Fader/Swift Scarecrow and as for draw cards, besides the Upstart & Peace we relied with Legacy of Yata Garasu, Reckless Greed, Card Car D, Allure of Darkness, Emissary of the Afterlife, Pot of Duality.
    The main idea was, with those cards on board, we basically lockdown all possible options for the opposing player, they can't attack, no monster effs and negation to any sort of trap destruction/removal, while we draw to the pieces of Exodia with a somewhat strong draw engine.
    The funny thing about this deck was, it was quite effective against some meta decks back in the day.
    The Deck: (we strictly followed the "40" card deck but I'm gonna list all the cards that we used)
    Monsters:
    The Exodia Pieces
    Nimble Momonga x 3
    Swift Scarecrow x 3
    Battle Fader x 3
    Card Car D x 3
    Emissary of the Afterlife x 3
    Spells:
    One Day of Peace x 3
    Upstart Goblin x 3
    Allure of Darkness x 2
    Pot of Duality x 2
    Prohibition x 3
    Traps: (your bread and butter in this deck)
    Skill Drain x 3
    Imperial Custom x 3
    Metal Reflect Slime x 3
    Scrubbed Raid x 3
    Dark Bribe x 3
    Fake Trap x 3
    Reckless Greed x 3
    Legacy of Yata Garasu x 3
    Fast forward to 2021, the deck is now neutered in the TCG format (but somewhat playable in the OCG)

      @@drsoe08 And I didn't say you said it was stomping the meta, but to even imply you made a deck that Wind-Ups and Dino Rabbit would "struggle" against is saying that it's more than halfway decent at the time, and I'm still finding it hard to believe. The moment wind-ups would dump exodia pieces in the grave, this deck is dead, and the only real counter you have is Skill Drain or Prohibition, both unreliable counters. Fake Trap can protect them, but at the cost if it being a giant brick.
      See, here's the thing. I wish I had a nickel every time I encountered someone who claimed their deck does well against the meta, and it's some egyptian god deck or sacred beasts or mill or exodia or anything that barely saw any meta play (but is really popular with casual players), and I have yet to see a single time I was proven wrong when I just assumed they were hyper inflating one or two times they got lucky against some meta strategy.
      I'm not saying you're lying, but you understand my skepticism right? If an Exodia lockdown deck was really that good against Dino Rabbit and Wind-Up back in 2012, then it's weird that no one thought to play it in major tournaments. That's literally the holy grail, an unexpected deck that reliably contends with 2 of the most played meta decks that no one saw coming and therefore struggles to side against.

I personally play that strategy with a fuck ton of pendulum monsters, allowing me to just dump my hand one turn, summon a bunch of stuff, use pendulum normal tuners like hallo hallo to go into coral dragon to pop things and draw more cards, building up a big board and providing protection for my heart of the underdog. It's still not competitive due to the chance of not drawing heart of the underdog, or drawing exodia too early and either having dead cards or having to use the exodia pieces as impromptu link pieces, but it certainly is a rogue deck that can have some powerful plays turn after turn if you get a good hand.

    I feel like the draw version of exodia was dated over 6 years ago in even local play.
    One of the best methods right now for this arch type is using the modern Obliterate! trap card, and it's supporting effect monster. Using things like Power Wall, and Needlebug nest are effective traps to self mill your deck. Than using the Jar of Avarice + The Transmigrational prophecy combo to recycle your deck will allow you the flexibility to self mill. Once all Exodia pieces are milled or used for Obliterate!/boss monster; you can use cards like Dark Eruption, and Dark Factory of Mass Production to return Exodia pieces to your hand if you want to go the original way of winning instead of using your 5k untouchable by card effects beat stick. Implementing cards that just went off the ban list in recent months like Card Destruction would benefit you, and things like Dark World Dealings. I happen to also use a simplified Jinzo engine in my Exodia build.

  • @wilmer007
    @wilmer007 6 лет назад

    The issue with an Exodia Deck is that is can be easily countered by cards that force you to discards in your hand so cards like Card Destruction and Morphing Jar when you have 3 or more exodia cards in your hand. when combined with a card like Banisher of the Light you have a 0% chance of winning (unless you have cards to bring back from banishment). Exodia decks also require high defense monsters to stall while you continue to draw exodia pieces before hitting 0 LP which increases the 40 card count to as high as 60 cards.
    a standard 40 card deck consists of:
    5 Exodia pieces
    1 Sangan
    1 Witch of the Black Forest
    3 Emissary of the Afterlife
    1 Pot Of Greed
    1 Graceful Charity
    1 Dark Hole
    1 Monster Reborn
    1 Call of the Haunted
    1 Premature Burial
    that's almost half the deck on these cards alone and now you have to fit in 20 cards while trying to prioritize what is important.
    in those 20 cards you need support cards like UFO Turtle/Mystic Tomato (these cards protect your LPs and allow you to easily special summon Sangan and WotBF), Gravity Bind/Messenger of Peace (these cards further stall by preventing strong monsters from attacking you), Magician of Faith (allows you to use again important magic cards like Monster Reborn, Pot of Greed, Graceful Charity, etc...). then you need to find space to add counter cards like Mirror Force, Magic and Trap Jammers aswell as High Defense Monsters like Giant Solder of Stone and Labyrinth Wall to further stall and now that 40 card deck is no longer 40 cards.
    it's actually much easier and better to use a card destruction deck where you carry more than 40 cards and using cards like Card Destruction and Morphing Jar to make the opponent run out of cards before you do than it is to try to win with Exodia.

    I literally just came to discuss the guy playing it in 2012 worlds, I watched that live and it was iconic. He did it because who the hell sides for exodia at worlds lol. He actually had a great shot of pulling it off and I was incredibly hopeful for him because it woulda been iconic af. It was such an edge of your seat tournament routing for the man who piloted Exodia at a world championship in the era that really defined power creep in yugioh with the inzektors, wind-ups, chaos dragons, and dino-rabbit. (mermails and heros too but not as much play) Also was a great time for the diversity of decks in the meta come to think of it.

    I do. The Hope for Exodia strategy still works, but if you put in Evenly Matched to deal with overextension and slide some Designator from the Grave in there to deal with Ash/Droll, you'll be quite fine.

    Pre links I used to play this super fun igknight exodia deck where I ran every single igknight and would use their pendulum and normal status to dump them in the extra deck while being able to use heart of the underdog. And with the massive amount of igknights I had, I could xyz to stall and gage pressure with thinks like s39 and castell. It’s not consistent at all but it’s fun.

    What about other Exodia cards like Necros, Ultimate Forbidden Lord, Legendary Exodia Incarnate and the few other spell / trap card supports? Was there any potential viable-ness or was Exodia always destined to be for casual play?

    • @dougneon9550
      @dougneon9550 6 лет назад

      Incarnate is nice actually but JUST being a "towers" with on average 3000 ATK means he has no use because:
      1. Metaltron
      2. Towers himself
      3. Ultimate falcon

    I remember in the anime, they did stuff like throwing the pieces in the gy and then recovering them with monster reincarnation or feather of phoenix. And I guess people didn't play them with deck thining like those monsters that summon 2 more copies of itself from the deck for whatever condition just so you can draw the pieces naturally.

    • @dougneon9550
      @dougneon9550 6 лет назад

      If you draw them naturally that's FIVE turns of waiting. Right now exodia has about 4 searchers:
      Sangan, Witch of the black forest, Legion the fiend jester, and Blue dragon summoner. Just link these bois away and it will add pieces but this REALLY janky

    Like hope Exodia is a good deck, I have no idea what you are talking about..., The issue isn't Exodia, the issue is that EVENTS/Formats that have multiple rounds, and you have a single win condition due to basic RNG your not going to always pull that win condition off.
    -Also that build is really old and there is better ones and stuff..., ergo my build was better.
    A true exodia deck does not care what the opponent is running you are playing yourself...

    I like the idea of hitting all 5 cards in your opening hand in a live tournament, it’s possible you just need to remember someone wins the lottery 100% of the time the potential it’s you is just ( 1:population of country )

    Hey dzeeff! Big fan of your videos as a player considering going to more tournaments. I was recently wondering about something related to one of your other "Nobody Plays ..." videos.
    After the 200th YCS, I was watching a lot of deck profiles and I really wanted to ask you this before I forgot. There was a Paleozoic frog deck that made top 64 in Columbus and I wanted to know your thoughts on the player running literally 3 copies of dark bribe instead of something like wiretap or another alternative.
    I know a lot on this channel, you talk about how important card advantage is, especially in the more modern format. As a newer player, I always want to learn more, but at times I'm getting confused signals from some of the best in the player base. In this example, why would dark bribe be useful in such a competitive format when giving your opponent another card is very dangerous and can easily let him/her capitalize despite the effect of dark bribe? I'm just honestly wondering can the card be good in SOME certain circumstance in the competitive scene.
    Anyway, great video as usual.

      Sometimes you have to remember that just because one player at one tournament topped with a card doesn't make the card suddenly good. He used it as a metagame call, but we can't apply that to every deck/tournament.

    • @Policefan234
      @Policefan234 6 лет назад +2

      Wow! thanks for such a quick reply. That's good to keep in mind. I guess sometimes, I get easily swayed by crazy deck profiles on youtube running super niche cards, but forget that there's a reason that most of the tops in the tournament aren't running a bunch of these cards. I suppose I kind of have an internal conflict where I want to play unique surprise cards to have some sense of individual creativity, but often times this goal conflicts with optimizing my deck to win as much as possible on average.
      Anyway, thanks once again.

    Why would life-equalizer be a good card? You have to have a difference of at least 8000 life points, that's not exactly easy to do. What combination of cards would let this work? Can someone link me a deck that utilizes life equalizer and magical explosion?

    • @Srock8994

      There are also cards like gift card that give your opponent 3000 lifepoints.
      And upstart gives them 1000.
      Life equalizer and magical explosion caused the banning and limiting of a lot of cards.
      The crazy thing? Magical explosion is still good in sky strikers. They can amass like 15 spells in there Graves fairly easily. They just grind away until there opponent is low on life and then magical explosion to finish off the rest.

    I used to run Exodia at the games infancy and won lots with it. You used to be able to run like sangan + witch of the black forrest, think of like all the revive spells like Call of the haunting, Premature burial, monster reborn... all able to revive those cards, graceful charity, pot of greed...all 1 copy legal at the time... and I think you were able to run 2 magician of faiths at the time too, get those draw spells back easily. I also ran Back up soldier too so I could throw out some pieces into the grave yard and then activate the trap on my opponents turn after you heavy storm them or harpies feather dust them. Man so many powerful cards in those old school decks that are 100% banned now.

    Dzeef, The Heart of the underdog builds can play Normal Penulum monsters too. So if you want you could play a little Synchro-Pendulum deck while drawing crazy amounts of cards, the only thing it needs is to be able to search the Heart of the underdog. You could play Hallo-Hallo to used cards like Beelze, trish and other lv 7,8 and 9 synchros as long as the decklist is done well enough.
    But yes, without the drawspell, the deck is pretty much impossible to play
