It’s all about skill in handling whatcha got! You can have the fanciest bow, but if you are a lousy shot, it won’t do you any good. It seems that some of these companies brag about how fast their bows are…the truth is in the chronograph…..and the archer’s ability to aim straight and hit the vital spot. Water Swatter knows what he is doing. EXPERIENCE PAYS OFF
I recently discovered your channel and just wanna say how much I've been enjoying it. You're like Kendall Gray but a lot less loud. I like your demeanor, you're more like a real person and less like a RUclips going through the motions.
Those are kind words...Thanks!!!!!!
Thank you for sharing all the speeds! Good luck hunting my friend!
Great clip. Super thorough. I love a good chart.
Really enjoy your material and content. Thank you for putting these videos out
Thanks, you're welcome.
Useful combination of hard data and real world experience.
epic to see these being compared both realistically and look forward to seeing your future hunting vids
Thanks! Got a few hunting videos from last year. If you're interested in seeing how they work on deer.
Great video! You got right to the point and did the test. I hate when people drag out a video to get minutes watched.
Shoot thanks! I sometimes think I'm to much to the point.
Great video , good luck on your deer hunting!
Thanks!!!!
Many thanks Josh. I sent this to an industry buddy.
This is awesome! I need to get the small reverse bow for gator hunting because my full size crossbow takes up way too much room on my boat!
Should get the job done. If ya got a good reel setup. We were talking about doing just that last summer. I lost touch with the fella setting it up.
@@TheWaterSwatters I have an AMS reel with a float attached and basically only use the crossbow to attach the float with a bolt. I haven’t ever tried to use the bow to kill a gator and reel it it, just to tag it with the float in case it gets off my fishing rod with snatch hooks so I can get back to it again. The more lines you get in one the less chance you have of it getting away and you never seeing it again. I hope you get to try it out one day man! I love gator hunting and do it almost every year.
I’m sure it’s somewhere on the channel but I was wondering what part of the state you are at? Great video!!
I'm in the SE part of the state.
Fantastic comparison and I am sure people will appreciate this info.
Yall iced over up there yet?
Simply outstanding!💥👍👍👍
Nice. My Excalibur 308 short does 296 with a 350 grain bolt. I got 2 pass throughs on bow openers with it this year.
That's where it's at! Doubling up on opening day.
you can get a little more power by putting a twist in the cables. I did this to my bow and it seems to be shooting a little bit faster. I haven't chronoed it yet. I had to put an extra half twist in one side though, just to correct the timing. Let me know if you do this and if you noticed any difference. Thanks for the video by the way.
I might try this next time I swap strings.
@@wysman2669 I did do it. Details in my comment above.
Great video, that reverse draw has impressive power.
It's flicking them little bolts pretty fast!!
Watched this video several times now. You about bave me convinced that i should have bought the reverse draw. I just dont like the look of reverse draw crossbows. Hard to argue with performance though.
My next upgrade after i get the buttstock added will be the 150# limbs.Nice performance boost over the 120# limbs and not too terribly far behind the 150# reverse draw.
As far as hunting is concerned I can't tell the difference between the 150 and the reverse. It only shows up when I shoot it over the chronograph
@TheWaterSwatters If all goes well, I might just have a 150# reverse draw. It is branded Ballista and is coming from China. I found it at a smoking good deal....or I got HooDoo'ed. We will see. I ordered it on 12/20 and it is supposed to ship within 2 weeks. Estimated arrival February 7th. eBay money back guarantee is the only reason I gambled. I figure the worst case scenario is I get my money back by March.
Also found an interesting one called the Drakon. Looks like a carbine version of the Mini Striker, but it is 100# . Selling for about $271.
Longer power stroke in the reverse limb. Makes sense it would be faster. I would definitely consider hunting with it. But I would be building an even heavier bolt for that purpose. Even though the flight would drop, you need mass for pass throughs
Ten point has the fastest crossbow at 505 fps which is reverse draw,Ravin has a standard crossbow at 500 fps that you can get that has a rechargeable cranking unit, and Scorpyd has a reverse draw crossbow that shoots 480 fps.Scorpyd will customize a crossbow to you particular needs, and you they are not readily available as other crossbows. Great videos, looking forward to the next one.😊I shoot Scorpyd crossbows
I have a ballista bat and want to get 150 lb limbs for it but having a hard time finding them, all I can find is for the reverse
Is it just the string jumping risk that stops you hunting with the standard 120? Or does it not have the power to pass through?
At 15 yards I would have thought they would not have time to duck.
Great info. Great video.
Thanks!!!
Awesome test, man.
Thanks!
Nice work thanks 🤙
Your highest energy (= best knock down) is the 347g bolt in the reverse draw at over 35 foot-pounds. Can the safety be defeated on the magazine versions?
Reverse seems to have a slight edge. Awesome👍
Indeed...it has the longest power stroke.
Great video bro can't wait for the hunting season!!
I'm gonna have to get after it. Kinda hard to mustard up the drive to hunt when it's so hot. We've shot a few...now I'm waiting on cooler weather!! Come on cooler weather!
@@TheWaterSwatters MAN I'm waiting for cooler wather too it's been way to hot to do anything
It says 400fps for the reverse where they sell them
The 150 forward limbs seem to be a little bit quieter than the reverse draw
Excellent!
Awesome info brother 🤙
Thanks!!
Very interesting. Not far from what I would have expected.
Yeah they're not long range weapons.
I need a lot more detail on the bolts that you're using for hunting, I mean does the broadheads screw on to the bolts because because maybe I'm looking in the wrong place on William tell's website, Can you please help me with this
williamtellarcherysupplies.com/product/4-x-customized-14-inch-shaft-hunting-bolts-for-150lbs-mini-striker-pistol-crossbow-and-120lbs-mini-striker-pistol-crossbow/
Wow, those are almost the same numbers you'd expect out of a traditional longbow or recurve.
Have you heard of the Cobra Siege 300?
I have...it's looks like a full size repeating crossbow.
I think with the superior momentum the vlad limb with the 405 bolt would be equal in its penetration power to the mini striker with the 347 gr. Bolt would be my guess.
Probably but it would be moving at the speed of smell.
@@TheWaterSwatters 150 fps seems decent am I wrong
brilliant test shooting bro
Thanks!!!
The last time you tested the 120 lb mini striker it produced 131 ft per sec. With a 355 gr bolt. Now you getting 168 ft per second with only 8 less grains. What happened did you set it up for more power somehow? Was it seating of the bolt causung deminished acceleration? 🤔
I'm not sure....may have been that new string. May have been the new chronograph. I'll go back and look and see if I can give ya a better answer.
Definitely the bolt seating against the string. That gives the string nearly another half inch to influence the bolt.
@@TheWaterSwattersStill nice knowing that a bolt only carrying 13.5 ft lbs with a 350 gr. Plus weight can take a deer close up. How close were you again.
Good day will you recommend the mini ballistic bats crossbow as a quick reload Squirrel popper? Or the one you are using now?
They're the same bow branded and sold by different companies. I use William Tell Archery Equipment.
I'm thinking I'm looking at the wrong William tell website because I'm not seeing that different bolts that you're using
williamtellarcherysupplies.com/
Sure is great to know your weapons, what they can do,and to put the groceries in the freezer 😊
Indeed!!!!
Great review can you buy the complete bow package with the forward limbs don't see it on the site?😊
I don't think so. I'm petty sure the 150lb limbs are an upgrade.
A lot of people will feel like that is weak, but I killed 100+ deer with 4 bows combined, and none of them shot any faster. Given they were shooting a 26”- 30” Eason arrows, but one of them, a 45# bear whitetail hunter was much slower! The 70# PSE pacer wasn’t much faster than the Bear.
Believe it or not the Vlad produces a two ft lb difference from the mini striker with a 405 gr. Bolt going 150 ft per second. This produces just over 20 ft lbs of energy with a 90 lb limb. Where the mini striker is producing roughly 21.75 ft with a 347 gr. Bolt.
Yeah, and 35 ft 347 gr. with MS Reverse, that's nice.
I bet that reverse limb could benefit from a 425 gr. Bolt I think. 🤔 Whats your thoughts?
Probably as far as penetration goes, but I need speed to deer hunt. Penetration hasn't been an issue, most of the deer I've shot I've got clean pass throughs. The problem is the bolt getting to the target before it ducks.
I've heard people claim to shoot deer at 30 and even 40 yards with these bows. I won't argue but I will say it can't be done constantly. I've shot 8 deer now with these small bows all inside 18 yards and they always jump the string and duck several inches before the arrow arrives.
At 30 yards...we won't even talk about 40....they would have time to smoke a cigarette, sip some coffee then get out of the way. This will cause lots of bad shots and gimped up deer.
@@TheWaterSwatters What level of speed is required in fps to redress that issue in your opinion?
Is there a difference in shaft diameter between the standard practice bolts and the new hunting bolts? Also, do you have any problems with your bolts not sitting flush with the rails in the front? Mine have a tendency to slightly rise and sit to the right at the front of the rails on my Mini Reverse. I sent an email to William Tell but got no response about the bolts not sitting flush in the front. Thanks
I have had trouble with some arrows I've made rising at the front. The sting bolts i had did that too. I can't tell ya why they do it though. I've seen this with my full size crossbows.
I always hunt with the same arrow so I haven't paid much attention to it. I'll carry extras but shoot the same arrow until i break or loose it. I'll look into the cause and see if I can come up with an answer.
@@TheWaterSwatters I checked again today because I failed to mention I am also using some arrows I made that are about 6mm in diameter compared to the 5.4- 5.5mm target arrows. The larger shafts rise a lot compared to the smaller ones. Also most of the standard arrows sit fine, there a couple that lift a little. I did notice if I lift up on the plastic arm that holds the arrow in place, the 6mm shafts sit down like they should. I'm going to also see if I can raise the limbs some because the cams sit below the rail and cause what I believe is too much pressure on the string serving and will cause faster wear. I will let you know if I discover anything to remedy these problems also. I will need to build a limb compressor first and then start experimenting.
@@TheWaterSwatters I fixed my string issue by having a friend mill the bracket that holds the limbs. He cut the depth down by 0.100 and maintained the radius where it fastens to the main frame. This gave me approx. 0.030 clearance under the string so it will no longer rub on the frame and cause excessive wear. The string sits perfect in the nock also. As far as the bolts lifting goes, I believe it has to do with the fletching location and also excessive glue left on the shafts. I placed some bare 6mm shafts that haven't been fletched on the rail and they all sit perfect. I will need to pay closer attention to my glue process and be sure to wipe "any and all" extra glue off. I may also need to tweek my fletching jig a little.
Qual o site que consigo comprar?.....
Obrigado
Aonde eu compro uma dessa?.....sou do Brasil
Boa noite !, consegui mandar uma pra mim?, Moro no Brasil.
Facts.I just replaced my 120 with the 150 rd and I did notice where my 120 would get lodged in my particular target and the 150 rd goes clean through it...Anybody know a drywall guy in denver?
Lol I have 2 holes in the drywall at my house from arrows going through targets. My wife won't let me shoot inside anymore.
I like idea for small game put a blunt tip on and rabbit hunt
That reverse limb shoots hard
Sure does, for such a small bow.
I am a little disappointed the fly-x-treme wasn’t included in this video.
Lol that think shoots a blistering 29fps. It would've made the other bows look bad. 🤣
A bowyer in the UK makes aftermarket strings as those these Xbows come with aren't great. He's seeing iirc 337 fps with a 165 grain bolt.
I've seen a fell on RUclips who makes strings. Says he sells'em on Ebay I've been meaning to look into getting a couple.
@@TheWaterSwatters he's called I think the Norfolk Bowyer, exactly the same length as original but obviously much better material and a little thicker. They sort out the cam timing well did on mine without twisting and tighten up the limbs a little. He suggests they are good for iirc 500+ shots.
Just had a look grs-x-bow r&d.
Love your videos by the way no nonsense and informative! 👍
This totally justifies the chronograph purchase
Lol the fly bow didn't do it for ya!?
I wonder if they can make 175lb limbs
Goodness I'm not sure it would hold together. There is a tremendous amount of tension in these little bows. Lol they might explode with 175lb limbs. Then again they might not...someone may find a way to hold the package together.
Mantep josss gandos
😂 Never mind LOL
This is the most unethical tool ever devised for hunting! 140 grain arrow for deer is like blowing on them and it invites injured deer and lost damaged animals.
The cocking mech is fantastic . However until it can draw 300lbs it is basically a toy that should NEVER be used for deer even if some people shoot deer on the internet with them. This is a BAD tool!
I emailed william tell archery and asked if they were the designers of the little crossbows and they claimed to be. I found the same bows were made by FMA, I dont support or use companies the openly lie to their customers. Just something to be aware of. These little bows are made by FMA and named Supersonics. They are not a william tell product, just they put a sticker on them and mark up the price! Just an FYI william tell claimed 420 fps in their ads
They have never lied to me. Everyone knows they are a resale company that the Striker, Bat, FMA are all the same bow.
@@TheWaterSwatters I asked them if they were the designers and if they were interested in seeing some designs, they replied with yes its our design and said they wanted to see my work, then I found out its designed by FMA engineering. So I guess not surprised because (not all) most businesses and people in the USA are ripoffs!
You sold them a reverse to me, i eas gonna get a Ravin but in pedojoe potato heads economy i cant afford it
