    Reverse draw:
    1. Better balance.
    2. More efficient. (Greater power & speed)
    3. Typically quieter.
    4. Longer front end life.
    5. Less vibration.

Walking with a bow like that puts debris rubbing along the string. A traditional limbed crossbow protects the cables and string with the limbs. Its incredibly wide for tree stand hunting. The real old bows like V1 were long enough that it put all the width past trees. They were relatively narrow by the shooter. These reverse limb bows puts all the important stuff all in the place where a tree would be, and they get critically wider when you shoot. Traditional bows get wider too, but its not as pronounced. The extra energy from the long powerstroke is good, but i’m not willing to give up the maneuverability to get it. Great presentation and I agree these will likely be very popular for years to come!

I get what you are saying, but keep in mind the Original Bunjie is 36 in wide uncocked. That is a wide crossbow! This thing is Tiny in comparison. And keep in mind that other brands make them even smaller like the 10 points for example. Just a thought!

    • @chrisruzsa2798
      @chrisruzsa2798 Год назад

I think a reverse draw would be far more maneuverable than a trad style or a compound front heavy keep in mind that is the exact width of the crossbow uncocked so as lang as you are 1 foot from a tree you are perfect. Rich and i need like 3.5 feet clearance with our wide body beasts lol.

That's another problem with these limbs..you really have to pay attention to your tree when shooting to the sides. One of my fists hunts with this bow...thankfully on the ground, I had a deer sneak in behind me. I tucked into the tree to hide and fired as the deer walked by. Welp my limd hit the tree and blew me off my stool. Like getting punched out of nowhere

Hello Rich . . . thank you for what you do. I relied heavily upon your expertise before stepping into the woods this past season. Here's my story, hope it makes sense and it's not too long.
I've hunted with a bow since age 16, I'm now 66. I had suffered a spine injury 28 years back. That injury has affected every aspect of my life. 15 years ago a nasty surgery ended all hopes of me ever hunting again, or so I thought. Unexpectedly last fall a friend purchased some prime Northern Illinois farmland 10 minutes from my house and it has fairly easy access for me to hunt, YAY! But I could no longer draw my compound bow, so off to Cabelas I go in search of a crossbow. Now this was before discovering your awesome channel and WOW have things changed in the time I've been away. So I spend about 2 hours with the salesmen schooling me in every aspect of crossbows. I was about to cash out when I asked what I thought was an unrelated off the cuff question, "what's up with those backwards crossbows"? Now I had told him one requirement for a new bow is that it had to be light cause I'm not in the greatest shape. I had a Ravin R-10 in my cart but as soon as I put a reverse draw bow up to my shoulder my jaw dropped to the ground. It felt so easy shouldering this bow compared to the others, and WHY? Was it lighter, NO. He said this bow was a little heavier that the Ravin. It took a moment for it to click in my head what was happening. That riser being mounted farther back changed the balance making it so much easier to shoulder than even a lighter conventional crossbow. AMAZING! Well after a couple of practice shots I was convinced this was the way to go. I ended up buying a Wicked Ridge RDX-400 by Ten Point. I love the bow even though I haven't shot it that much. I sighted it in and hit the woods. There I discovered one weakness, it's scope. Not very good at gathering light, kind of dark in low light. So I upgraded to a TRUGLO Opti-Speed. It sure is a huge improvement in it's brightness which is what I was after. I hit the field and within a week I harvested my first deer in almost 20 years, a healthy looking 6pt buck. Now I'm after the meat not the rack and this little farm has such a healthy population I was blown away. One afternoon I counted 27 deer in the field, crazy! So 4 days later I didn't hesitate to harvest a button buck as I wanted a little bit more venison in the freezer. The first deer I shot at 28 yards, the second at 36 yards. Neither deer ran far, maybe 75 yards max. Thanks to your broadhead videos I purchased me some Schwackers! Just amazing performance. I had always used a fixed 3 blade tip, but WOW what an improvement. So my adult son got Schwackers of his own for Christmas, lol.
All of that happened so fast. I found out on November 20th that I had a place to hunt if I wanted. I shot my first deer on Dec 4th. So two weeks to decide what to do, buy a new bow, sight it in(twice), scout the property then put up a couple of ladder stands. By Dec 8th I had harvested 2 deer and it was all over. That feels a bit weird. So now I'm watching all of your videos anticipating the arrival of next season and being able to hunt the rut. I did see a couple of bigger bucks on my last day out there, and oh boy I can't wait. In the meantime I want to put out some trail cams and watch your videos.
So please Rich, keep those videos coming, you must! I'm looking forward to watching and learning.
Thanks to you and your family once again for what you do. Regards, Illinois Chuck.

My question is what advantages in terms of a increase in durability and ultimately reliability and a reduction of the likelihood and frequency of limb failure, serving wear and failure and reduction in over all string and cable wear does the reverse draw design give IF ANY over crossbows with traditional draw designs?
As anyone who knows anything about compound crossbow design they are for most owners especially ones like me who's only choices are mastering working on them ourselves or send them back to the manufacturer and eat a LOT of downtime they are NOT simple to work on or easy to work on and WILL not if but WILL have multiple issues with string and cable wear as well as cam timing issues all of which require some method to compress the limbs to work on and change cables and strings then get your cams back in time with each other all if not done correctly will at the least result in accuracy issues at worst damage to your crossbow including potentially catastrophic damage
If reverse draw design requires significantly less draw weight to achieve the same arrow velocity as xbows using traditional draw designs one would think there is a significant chance it should reduce stress induced wear and component failure common to higher DW crossbows
But I am not a mechanical engineer so I can only guess at best as there very well may be a design threshold in crossbows that once you exceed a certain level of stress induced forces any reduction in DW UNLESS it goes below that threshold won't offer a reduction in the likelihood of stress induced wear and ultimately failure significant enough to matter
And I am reasonably certain the vast majority of crossbows currently producing a arrow velocity over 350 FPS are past that threshold
My point being crossbows of a reverse draw designs are SIGNIFICANTLY more expensive than ones of traditional design and unless you must have the absolute fastest of crossbows IMO literally spending over $1500-$2000 or more for a minimum of 20-30 more FPS to a maximum of less than 100 more FPS again in my opinion only financially justifiable if it comes with a very significant degree of increased reliability and certainly not financially justifiable if they are subject to an DECREASE in reliability
My decades of working as a heavy industrial maintenance electrician tells me the more complex of a design the more likely it is to fail than one of a less complex of a design (hence German tanks in WWII VS America tanks if you will)
Reverse draw compound bow have while not great in its degree, is a more complex design with more components and I suspect a longer string and longer cables all of which usually not always but usually results in a less reliable design.
Again in my opinion a crossbow costing $2k-$3k+ is only financially justifiable if it comes with a significant increase in its degree of reliability VS crossbows costning 30-50% less because again IMO $1k-$1.5k more for an increase of only 50-60fps can only be financially justifiable if it comes with a significant degree of increased reliability
    Again just my opinion

There are crossbows that have the string come off of the front of the cam (reverse draw) without being a reverse limb crossbow. Mission crossbows for example come to mind. Very little weight up front may be harder to hold steady, too. More mass equals more inertia. A heavy object is usually easier to balance & hold steady. Balance an arrow tip on a finger and compare it to a pencil tip. An arrow will be easier to balance upright than a pencil. Add weight to the top of the arrow you are balancing, it's even easier. I am not knocking reverse limb crossbows, but I've never heard someone say a short barrel shotgun swings better than a long one. Like most things in life, there are trade offs!

I hunt with 165# Aculeus...love it...primarly because most of my shots are 40 to 60 yards.
Downsides...this bow eats strings and cables for breakfast. I had a fairly new string snap just as I was removing the cocking device...crazy scary. The string angle on the trigger latch is much more sharp than conventional. After this dry fire the cam pins got tweaked. Scorpyd honored their lifetime warranty...after $200 shipping to scorpyd. Also fyi..using dows on the cams will void your warranty, and they do check for signs of this as it can effect the pins.
Personally I would rather have the weight at the end of the bow. I can hold a traditional bow far more steady free hand. The scorpyd also has a kick to it that can cause minor accuracy issues. My other bow I shoot is a center point 370. It will out shoot my scorpyd all day to 40 yards. Half dollar groups compared to dimes.i don't think I could justify spending that much on the scorpyd from my experience. I rather get a new center point every few years. Splurging on the best optics you can find is a far better investment. Hope this helps anyone

Saw one a while ago, the limbs release straight up off the frame and don't make the crossbow 'wider' after a shot. NOT a so called 'vertical' bow which is just a normal bow turned on it's side. This one when cocked the limbs go straight down into the frame, and when released go straight up with no change in the width of the bow itself. No idea if that is good, bad, on anything else.

Untill the make a recurve version I'll have to disagree 😂 They have also lost some of there advantage with the advent to narrower front mount compound crossbows combined with semi bullpuped layouts but healthy competition is good as it leads to further innovations. However I have to agree on the higher draw weights I can't remember the exact figure but the jerk strain on any crossbow is several times higher than the draw force required to cock the crossbow which is I believe why limb breakage is going up inline with the quest for ever increasing speeds. I would say anything over 350 fps is more than adequate and if money wasn't an option after that I'd be looking for compactness, lighter weight, easier cocking and higher quality before an extra increase in speed. Equipment can only take you so far and it's up to the operator to fill any gaps with skill which is what makes it fun.

I think you are wrong on recurve crossbow has more stress on their limbs, i know that most newer excaliber use 270 up wards to 300 pound limbs, sounds way higher than the compound crossbows that has only average 180 pounds. However when you realize the 180 pounds draw weight is after it being divided in half by the pully and cables. In reality you gotta 180 times 2 being 360 pounds actual stress on the limb 😂. 200 pound compound bow will be 400 pounds pressure on limbs

  • @mussersbowsboatsandscience6610

A little off topic, but I thought the PSE Tac Crossbow was really ahead of its time. It 400+ FPS with 125lb limbs, without rails, shot through a whisker bisquit. It could be wound up and unwound like a Ravin. I think PSE might have even sued them. The only problem is that it was rather long....

PSE is such a funny company, they were one of the first ones to hit 400 ft per second but we never hear about them today. Or at least in my circles I don't hear about them. Should be all over the place! You make a great point, though, that just because they got there first doesn't mean they're there forever. We might see this technology reach other manufacturers and in the end it might make it so scorpyd is not the leader!
