A powerful message indeed. A lot of people make fun of asmongold for being old, but I think it’s one of his best attributes, he’s gotten to a stage in life where he truly understand himself and people in general, and can be comfortable in being himself because of it. It makes for some very intersting conversation for an aging gaming population and I love to listen to him.

@@HahaLesbians I think that's only true if he made those choices based solely on conformity. We can't know that. I just think every human being with any self awareness, eventually has regrets. There are always things we could have done differently. Frankly I think our culture is so overconcerned with comparing ourselves to other people, it creates little neurotic behaviors. The "learned helplessness"he mentioned is so powerful. People start believing that they can't do things. Maybe then they conform in the way you were alluding to. Who knows. I do believe that happiness and contentment are separate from a lot of the material things we hold so tightly. Idk. Just my thoughts

    • @edaumaysol

If you want to have more freedom you need to possess less material goods. Asmon's point is (I think) that if he (OP) wanted to live off of welfare he could, but you can't afford to fund a home with welfare money- but maybe a dingy apartment or living off of other people's things (e.g couch surfing, living with your parents). Nobody has economic freedom because the more money you have the more stresses you need to balance. Less is more.
If you WANT to have a beautiful big home then yeah, no shit, you have to work harder. But you chose that yourself.

I think it's hard to see what is our souls, to be honest. What exactly are we possessing in our most human and individual moments? And what comparisons are we making to our acquaintances, friends and family, and art (which imitates life)? It's hard to know if we're retreading someone else's ground, but for me, the circumstances leading to the choice and the action are what make our decisions our own. People's lives can be so different, even when they intersect a lot people still find differences in each other. Those are the moments when we are the most of ourselves.

My first year at this job I had a weeks paid vacation, 5 sick days paid and two personal days unpaid, 401k matched, and profit sharing, plus 104 hours I can call off per year without repercussions. BUT after I hit 5 years total seniority, I’ll have 6 weeks paid vacation, 12 paid sick days, 6 personal days and 104 hours for calling off, 401k, profit sharing, Plus I’ll be at top rate. Over 30$ an hour. Also at that point I won’t be moving boxes anymore. I’m just saying, there’s nothing wrong with a job that doesn’t require special skills. As long as you make sure you work for a company who values you. For now, I proudly pick boxes up and put them down. 😅

I grew up quiet and awkward, so being able to be comfortable with complete strangers and make people happy was a great feeling. I enjoyed it a lot and made good money, because I was damn good at it like you. But life is more than just keeping steady, I desired more and knew I could do more. Im just lucky im financialy secure cause i was borned privlaged. If i wasnt i would be more depressed. Im not socialy akward im not dis satisfied with the way i look. My gf broke up with me cause i only play wow and i was relieved. Im 28 years old and used to have alot of irl friends but i cba to maintain them. I get that degen pll envy asmon but i agree normal human beings made choises cause it made them happy at the time like getting a family etc. My worst nightmare would be to fall in love briefly then have a kid be happy for a while. Then wanting to go back to my old ways. The guilt/sense of responsibility would fk me up hard and i would continiue hateing my life until the kid moved out. I can imagine this is the same for most degenerates that ended up with a family. They just keep on being misserable and guilty about it.

No one is saying he's a god, people are saying that he's easy to relate to, very in tune with himself, and good at putting his thoughts into clear speech. He also knows how to entertain an audience. All of these are talents/skills/traits that are pretty hard to come by, and he deserves respect for it.

@Chris Dean Where he is doesn't make a difference moron. If someone doesn't know how to communicate and entertain, their stream is going to be boring as fuck. He's also actually capable of meaningful self reflection and metacognition, unlike you, apparently. You have no idea how your own thought processes work, nor do you have a grasp of your own ability to communicate. Thus, you can't recognize talent when you see it. You're literally resorting to stereotypes and societal biases to substantiate your views, never once stopping to consider that they're prejudiced and flawed. Shows how capable of critical thinking you are.
And also, I guarantee you that his viewership doesn't exclusively comprise of NEETs, considering he's averaging over 150k viewers per stream now. He's an entertaining streamer, whether you accept it or not.

I am a 39-year-old woman with a spouse, a stepson, and a decent job. I will always make time for video games, and other hobbies I love. I chose a spouse that values personal time as much as I do, and have taught my stepson the value of personal time as well. We choose to make time for ourselves. It doesn't lessen our responsibilities in life, it just shifts them around. And it's all (usually) manageable if you make it so.

I agree, I think the person who posted that statement that asmond read, maybe was so pressured by society or his family to get that amazing job that pays a lot or whatever the case may be that in turn limits his time to enjoy his hobbies. Where as others will have a smaller house, buy less expensive stuff, just to have a different job that will allow them to take that time to indulge in what truly makes them happy and their life worth while.

    • @shootyoureyeout

@@duaneashley8194 I don't over-extend myself, nor do I attend social things that I simply don't want to attend (ex. The cousin's kids' birthday party, the 47th wedding this year, etc). I work 8-10 hours, sleep 6, and that leaves a whole 8 hours a day for the rest. So even if half of those 8 hours are taken up by cooking dinner, cleaning, family stuff, etc, that's a whole 4 hours I can dedicate to my hobbies. And I make sure to make fun and hobbies a priority just below all that other stuff I listed.
My recommendation: see if you can start dedicating one hour a day to "hobby time", and make it a part of your daily routine. If you make your hobbies a priority, you'll be amazed at how much shit gets cut out of your life that you don't really want or need to do, but just do to make others (non-immediate family, etc) happy :)
I hope this helps, and I hope you start finding time for yourself to do what you love!

This hits true for me. I'm in my 30s with a wife, child, cat, and a mortgage. And I feel incredibly blessed and grateful for the life I have. There are times that I do miss living the life of a 17 year-old, playing games, seeing friends, and partying, and part of me occasionally wishes I could go back to it but NEVER permanently. Just for a breather to feel like the old me (meaning the young me). So, I booked a couple of days holiday from work just for me and that gave me the respite I needed but also gave me some perspective of how good I actually have it now.
Take care of yourselves. Be grateful for what you have. And give yourself permission to be the good kind of selfish once in a while.

This speech, about jobs from Asmongold, is what make people start to unite against rich people. It is so disconnected from the reality.
No, we cannot simply decide to find "a better job" or a job that gives "more vacation.". Because our salaries are shit, amd if we quit our job, we are no longer in a security state, which could greatly jeopardize our life.
We have a hard time paying for the food, the rent, the activities.
Asmond was able to be minimalistic because he lived in an household were his parents could support this minimalistic way of life. I had not that luxury. I was raised in an household were I was beaten and we were counting money, and where viodegames were considered a waste of time.
