Your equine knowledge is second to none CC. So many horse owners just put their horses out to grass and have no idea how dangerous it can be. Thank you for sharing your experience and knowledge with everyone, you’re wonderful. 👌
Hahaha you brushed Nigel,he trots away, then he turns around and rolls in the poop and then looks at you as if to say “so there”. I laughed. I had to stop the video before I could watch more. He is so funny. I know your watchers love him as much as I do. 😂❤
I did get a bit of a giggle at your “window shopping.” Most women, myself included, window shop for clothes or shoes, while you window shop for a tractor! Good for you for being so practical!
I’ve noticed horse lovers are different that way, they’d rather spend their $$ on their horses, animals & farm. Their animals depend on them for their care like a child depends on a parent so it’s natural to put their needs as a higher priority. I’ve noticed most horse properties or ranches the owner's residence itself takes a back seat to the stables & pastures, even in Scottsdale/Cave Creek.
I can't help laughing when Nigel does his "thing!" I have noticed that each time Nigel does something you don't particularly like, he gives himself a good shake, and looks at you as if to say, " How'd ya' like them apples?!"
I was at my hair stylist yesterday at high noon. It sits on an incline across the road from a horse farm. As I waited for my color to set in, my stylist swiveled my chair to face the farm. She said “i wish the horses were out now..”I explained to her what I have learned and why it is wise that they are not out on that grassy pasture at that time of day. I was happy to see and to report that at least that horse farmer must know about the grass and it’s effects on horses. I am learning the most fascinating facts about horses from this channel. You would be a perfect candidate for a documentary.
No, really, you should seriously consider this. Up until just over 100 years ago, before automobiles - humans & horses had a relationship together. We should know these things, this information is part of lost history. People get puppies & kittens because they are adorable with no care for the adult dogs & cats. Obviously people cannot just get a horse & think all they have to do is feed & water it, throw a saddle on it & ride off into the sunset!!!
My two horses were out all the time with a run in shed. They were on about two acres of grass. They had extra hay when the grass was poor. You need to introduce horses to grass carefully, but mine had free access to Timothy grass. I never had a problem and never had to worry. They kept the grass trimmed short all the time. We have plenty of rain and the grass was good all the time. I think being on and off grass for periods of time can be a problem and having too much is a problem. Steady even amounts of limited grass is good. In the spring and summer they got very little hay. It never worried me that they might have problems because it was a steady, limited supply. It is very important not to let your horses get fat. This makes them susceptible to laminitis. Too much rich feed can be a real problem.
“It has a window I can roll down and yell at Huckleberry” 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 That was fun going along with you to the JDeere lot. Such lovely horses, with Tiny and Huckleberry and your commentary. Thanks for this video.
Thank you SO MUCH for educating your listeners about founder!!! You are helping so many fans and their horses by your detailed information! Having owned horses in both competition and breeding programs for 50 years, I want to validate your message!
I LOVE your comments about Nigel, the “little Turd!’! You show so much love to all of your animals! Another horse RUclipsr say you are the best trainer! I agree!
Believe me, if you ever had to deal with laminitis, you will never allow it again. It is horrible for your horse. Need to dry lot a horse for life is no fun for them and unfortunately necessary for many. Thank you for doing videos for folks who have no idea about allowing full time grazing especially in the spring.
I just love watching your videos - they are such easy- listening, almost therapeutic, but also most interesting. And, I never need to be worried that the care of the horses will be missing kindness or consideration for those gorgeous animals. Thank you. Can't wait for ziggy to join them.
That’s what I like about you. You know a great deal about what can happen if you’re not careful. You must have had a great teacher or two yourself. You’re very thorough.
The only time to go shopping is for a poop wagon or a mower! Feed store is by far my favorite place outside my home. Interesting day about the horses diets and grasses ... loved it!
It is a similar thing but in horses it causes swelling and extreme pain in their feet. Once they've had it once they are prone to it for the rest of their lives. If left untreated it can cause permanent damage and the pain is unimaginable. I have watched horse rescue episodes where they've rescued a horse with extreme laminitis and despite giving them the maximum amount of painkillers they still can barely walk. All because people want to get their horses out as soon as possible so they can eat grass and don't have to pay for feed anymore.
"Why not just turn them out and see what happens"... Having owned a horse as a kid, that was sold to me without the seller disclosing that he had foundered and having to put him down, this is the most horrifying statement I have heard in a long time! Not only could that kill them, but if you don't realize what's happening it becomes excruciatingly painful for the horse to where they refuse to even stand up because of the pain. To me that mentality borders on neglect at best, or at least a total disregard for the health and safety of your animals!
O, the dreaded founder...my boss's mules never foundered, ate dirty hay, drank rancid water and lived to over 30 years old...The horses, however, had all foundered before and were left on spring clover and weeds -- so every year I fought with my boss, got fired, called the vet, and after over $1,000 in charges (bute was a staple in the barn) he would let me use the grazing masks and skip sweet feed for the horses (one Morgan, an Arabian, a retired Standard bred and a Saddlebred) I always wished he would listen to someone as knowledgeable as you. FYI Trakehners I knew were always lanky and thin. Hanoverians, not so much!
Such a great informative video explaining exactly what happens and why there could be problems just turning your horse out, it's so important to listen to experienced horse owners . It could save a lot of heartache and not to say money. I love that you explain clearly so even a novice could understand. Thankyou for that C.C. ❤
When I was a kid we had horses and one of them was a fjord named Baldir who had issues with laminatis so he would live in our garden during spring instead of on our pastures, unfortunately he was an talented escape artist who jumped fences and more impressively crawled under them as well
I used to have goats and a mini donkey. I am also shocked at how few people who have had livestock their entire lives who don't know that laminitis preventible and caused by getting onto spring grass too quick. One of my favorite goats was foundered when I bought her. Because they are so lightweight, it isn't quite as serious as it is with horses, but I hated that I couldn't completely fix her hooves, they were very twisted. 😢 She didn't seem to be in pain though, thankfully.
Re: Lawn machines. Our 2 cents. We love our zero turn now vs. the traditional lawn tractors we used to use. Those gators are sweeet! Hope you can get both! Goodness knows you will use them. Great content today, so appreciated with regard to the grasses and equine issues regarding that, very relevant for us this year with our small bunch! Thank you so much for the in depth info on that!❣️🍀
I will add my 2 cents in favour of the zero turn mower too! We found them to be so much faster than the riding lawn tractor/mower. The two hour mow dropped down to about one and half hours.
CC - thank you. I had a really hard day at work. Needed a little Nigel to bring up my spirit! Thank you for sharing your corner of the world, your horses, and your knowledge. I learn something with every video!
thanks for the tip about 3am to 10am, I knew it's not ok to let my minis graze in the middle of the day. but i get up very early to go to work so I can let them out at that time in the morning and bring them in mid morning. I lost my first pony to this disease after a long struggle so taking it seriously is not an option for me. My friends who think I am 'fat shaming' them just have no clue.
Thank you, I love your videos and how you explain everything. I know "zero" about horses, what they eat, how they are trained etc. Huckleberry is amazing and shows just how much he loves you and your care. In all seriousness, Thank you for sharing your life with us, even the thrift shop shopping... Love it!!
That was so funny CC. Nigel trots across like a handsome King, looking immaculate, looks at you and 30 seconds later he looks like a manky tramp, I'm still laughing. 🤣🤣🤣 Manky or not he still looks handsome and regal with his usual attitude oozing out his pores, head held high. I still can't believe his age. His markings and mane are stunning. 💙
Dang, coyote stompin' horse. One less thing for you to worry about! Good division of labor. Tiny on mice, Huckleberry on gophers, Stewie on coyote patrol. And Nigel's long hair over his eyes makes me think of a sarge yelling at a recruit-"get a haircut!'
Great informative as well as entertaining video! I love how at 9:09 CC tries to lure in ole' Nigel with a "Want some breakfast??" as he scoffs off in his oh-so gallant stallioney way,! 😁 I replayed that part in slow motion for extra effects, lol!😂
So much great stuff in this video. Thank you for putting laminitis references in this video. I wish more expert people would help the rest of us w research. There is way too much bad info available. Re the riding lawnmower, enough people use those that you may be able to find a good deal on a used one. Another idea is to ask your mechanic to keep an eye out. Sometimes they come across things. A hydralic dump sounds heavenly! I hope you can find one at a good price. Also, worth checking estate sales for a mower. I am writing this comment 50 min. after you posted the video. It is crazy to see how fast the views and the likes are coming in! 100K is close! : )
Hey friends, help CC get some new kicks! I gave to thanks$ to help kick start it for all she's doing for our 4 legged buddies! She deserves some new kicks! I can't give alot but a bunch of us giving a little each plants a seed like her grass! Hope it helps! Blessings besides, they make my day along with that gorgeous scenery! To bad you can't buy that property! Stunning! 🗻🗻🗻🗻
Time is valuable. A ride on mower would save you a lot of time through out the year so it would be worth it in the long run. There's no shame in spending money to make your life easier.
So many, or let's say MOST people don't even research about animal husbandry before getting a pet. Most people think all you need is love. So wrong! Proper feed is the best way to show love.
I had a push mower all my life until I moved to my last house. I tried the push mower and it took 4 hours in the blazing summer heat. That was it. I went and bought a Cub Cadet riding mower and had a blast with it. I was so excited to have a riding mower that I pimped it out with silly flames as stick ons to the side where the engine was and I found a Betty Boop sticker which I put on the back of the seat. Yes I know it was nuts. The John Deere was too expensive. Loved the video and am so happy with the care you give to these animals. I think Nigel is hilarious bc he lets you know who is boss. Goose I see is still a bit of a stinker. Give him time and care and I think he will come around. Thank you for another great video. : )
I keep saying that I am not a horse person. I love how you explain stuff in a very natural way. It is just fun learning stuff from you! Thank you. Beautiful video ❤️.
I watch a Buffalo channel. The young farmer was new and one of his buffalo ate a flower that had grown on what hehad planted. It killed the animal in one day. A very hard lesson for the young farmer. But live and learn. It never dawned on me that grass or other things could be dangerous. I learn so much from the farmers and ranchers i watch. I am a retired teacher, so i recognize your talents with your animals. I have learned so much watching you. Your patience is amazing. Also, i admire how much you recognize the individual habits, likes and dislikes of your animals. Including Huckleberry and and cat.
Only thing to be careful of on a riding lawn mower especially if you have longest legs that sort of go to the side, don't try to mow too close to the fence. I got my leg caught in my backyard fence and really hurt myself one time because then I couldn't reach the brake. Just don't mow close to the fence.
That’s why secretariat and died. I’ve always heard of the horse secretariat. Over the last week I’ve been watching videos about him. Holy cow. What an amazing horse. Why didn’t they catch this on him early

It's very kind of you to share your extensive equine experience in your videos CC. I don't have horses anymore but I still enjoy learning about their care. ❤
For what you're doing now and plan to do at new future place, you should take a serious look at the JD subcompact tractors with the detachable, drive over mower deck. I can't imagine my small farm life without mine.
Wow! The amount of knowledge & care you have for these beautiful animals! U could write a book! 😊. They are so fortunate they found you! Blessings always. Btw, finally looked up founder! Dang, that is nasty! Glad the herd is doing great! Keep up the great work CC!
Thanks for taking us to the toy store! The mower and gator are not luxuries for you; you can give more time to the horses if you are saving time with equipment. Also, thanks so much for giving the detailed info on grass, you never know who might find this, and have a horse's life saved because of it. Have an awesome weekend.
Thanks again! I love every time you post anything, dear❤️ I’m not sure anyone knew much about grasses/sugar content over 55 years ago when I was fully invested time-wise with my horse(es) but I may be wrong.🧐. It makes me happy I didn’t lose an equine due to my grazing timing back then. Bless your knowledge and imparted wisdom as i follow your fabulous journey here! Big hugs to you and your supportive husband. 🤗
I really enjoy your videos. You put a huge amount of serious info in them. Your care and handling of each individual horse is very apparent as their condition greatly improves once you get them. Great job, CC.
My gosh girl, you are a gift to all of us. I am learning so much by watching your channel. I don't own or ride horses but I have always loved them. Thanks for inviting us into your life. It is a wonderful way to feel connected and inspired. Namaste'
I can't live without our side x side (Gator). Look at a Kubota. Less money, at least they were when we looked and bought ours, and almost indestructible. We got a diesel 4 wheel drive because that was what I wanted and my husband didn't argue with me (he got his tractor that he wanted and the attachments so he better not argue with me. Not to mention the tractor is a diesel so we don't have to worry about fuel). Make sure you have a hydraulic dump bed it makes life so much easier. I went back and forth on that aspect and now I know I would have regretted not having it.
Great seeing all the horses out on pasture. Nigel is such showman! Great info on spring grass and the issues it can cause. Window shopping can be fun, usually I have champagne wants and a beer budget! 😅 Great video.
I was also surprised by the number of comments from people who clearly know nothing about the dangers of sugars in the grass and how it can cause laminitis. And i haven't owned a horse in 30 years. I guess some people need to see a severe case of laminitis to see the suffering it causes.
Most people are locked in cities and suburbs and have little exposure to live stock. Even growing up in a city, I am 80 years old, there were horses were still being used as horse teamsters for deliveries such as milk, eggs, and etc. The world is moving even faster now.
I haven't ever owned a horse, but I'd like to own one in the next 5-10 years. It's strange to me that this same information doesn't seem to apply to cattle or goats (which I've had before), or at least if it did I never heard of it. It's good to know these things beforehand so I don't end up over my head if/when I ever manage to meet that goal.
I so enjoy going around with you as you do your chores. I know it sounds silly but I can live vicariously through you just watching. Deep breath, it's relaxing and calms my mind after the stresses of the day job. Keep the videos coming. This is much cheaper than therapy! haha
CC it's refreshing to know that there is a horse owner that actually studies the ins and outs of equine illnesses . Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us. Your friend Lou from Mi.
Laminitis is not just drama, it is super serious! When the coffin bone in the foot rotates it can actually force itself out of the bottom of the hoof! Ouch! No coming back from that one. I love it that you use your channel to educate about these things. It amazes me how some people that own horses know so little. Keep up the amazing work! You should splurge a little on your next piece of equipment. You deserve it!😁❤️
I just love your videos. Funny, super informative, and all your animals look so contented and healthy. I hope you get the riding mower and four wheeler of your dreams! ❤
Love the information. I have a 31 year insulin resistant Welsh Cob and a miniature horse. I keep them on a dry lot most of the time. I am very careful with the feeding.

C.C. is not only good with horses, felines, and canines, she can also bring together an enjoyable group of people together. 👍
I’m this big fan of John Deere. Love you wish shopping trip. Thanks for taking us with you.
Nigel... looking in your direction with the FU face! 😂
What I especially love is that even though we can't see his face, we all know what he's thinking! Haha
So many, or let's say MOST people don't even research about animal husbandry before getting a pet. Most people think all you need is love. So wrong! Proper feed is the best way to show love.
Prancing dancing Nigel❤
Beautiful and hilarious update, my evening just got tons and tons better, thank you for that! 😄❤❤❤
Those flames add +5 speed 😅

😂so funny ! Your humor is delightful & I am learning so much from your channel 🎉
I keep saying that I am not a horse person. I love how you explain stuff in a very natural way. It is just fun learning stuff from you! Thank you. Beautiful video ❤️.
The way Nigel looked at you after he rolled, I had to laugh...
Thank you for the information on the grasses!
I learned an about Laminitis, and John Deere Dreams! Thank you for a super Video !
Nigel being sassy & eating his lovely mash :P
Only thing to be careful of on a riding lawn mower especially if you have longest legs that sort of go to the side, don't try to mow too close to the fence. I got my leg caught in my backyard fence and really hurt myself one time because then I couldn't reach the brake. Just don't mow close to the fence.
That’s why secretariat and died. I’ve always heard of the horse secretariat. Over the last week I’ve been watching videos about him. Holy cow. What an amazing horse. Why didn’t they catch this on him early
Secretariat?
@@sharonmiller6436 yes. L O L. I talk all of my post. And I didn’t have my reading glasses with me today. I’m glad you know what I meant. I’ll go fix it. Now that I can see
@@creatingyourlifeconsciously I have the same problem anymore - if I want to read comments I've got to get the glasses on! 🙂

I now have macular degeneration and can read only on screens that have dark mode and even then horizontal lines are no longer horizontal but zig jagged. Being an elder as Betty Davis said 'is not for sissies'. 😉
YES... your sharing knowledge about afflictions vs feed constituents is invaluable...THANK YOU THANK YOU!
It's very kind of you to share your extensive equine experience in your videos CC. I don't have horses anymore but I still enjoy learning about their care. ❤
I have never had a horse and I find her informative videos great
For what you're doing now and plan to do at new future place, you should take a serious look at the JD subcompact tractors with the detachable, drive over mower deck. I can't imagine my small farm life without mine.
I highly recommend a zero turn mower. It saves so much time and is very fun to operate (very intuitive). We bought ours used online.
Wow! The amount of knowledge & care you have for these beautiful animals! U could write a book! 😊. They are so fortunate they found you! Blessings always. Btw, finally looked up founder! Dang, that is nasty! Glad the herd is doing great! Keep up the great work CC!
When you write that book, make sure there's lots of pictures of your beautiful animals and the gorgeous scenery 😅😅
I love every time you post anything, dear❤️
I’m not sure anyone knew much about grasses/sugar content over 55 years ago when I was fully invested time-wise with my horse(es) but I may be wrong.🧐. It makes me happy I didn’t lose an equine due to my grazing timing back then. Bless your knowledge and imparted wisdom as i follow your fabulous journey here! Big hugs to you and your supportive husband. 🤗
Lots of new research in the last 20 years!

Skelly is gorgeous.
I love Nigel! I let my minis get away with stuff that I never let my big horses get away with. 😂
I love Nigel! Little sassy turd 😊
Great seeing all the horses out on pasture. Nigel is such showman! Great info on spring grass and the issues it can cause. Window shopping can be fun, usually I have champagne wants and a beer budget! 😅 Great video.
Thankyou once again for a fascinating vlog. As always, a joy.
It is not something most people take seriously until they see it first hand unfortunately
Thanks for another great video. Looking forward to all your goals being reached!
Nigel looks like he has his favourite rolling spots.
I so enjoy going around with you as you do your chores. I know it sounds silly but I can live vicariously through you just watching. Deep breath, it's relaxing and calms my mind after the stresses of the day job. Keep the videos coming. This is much cheaper than therapy! haha
The Clever Cowgirl is Queen! 😄😍🐎🐎🐎
You deserve it!😁❤️
Have to admire Nigel's determination.
Go girl 😂😂😂❤❤❤👍👍👍
I always think of Nigel as The Prancing Pony! 😊
Your channel will save lives , and relieve suffering. THANK YOU 🙏 🕊️
