Our 1st pony was a shetland pony crossed accidentally with a Tennessee Walker mare and Twinkle looked like a puffball in winter and a sawed off Tennessee walker in summer he taught us to expect anything every time you were around ponies lol
On the hoof, my mare had a scoop on her left hind leg. It was a birth defect. By the time she reached 6 years and an amazing farrier , the defect was gone. She was a SWB, big girl

Actually normal, at least for quarter/paint horses. For 4H horse projects, they should be 6-7 months at the beginning of the training, which is normal weaning age.
Actually that's not true that mares only care for the foals for six months. While the foals may NURSE for four to six months, they need to stay with their mother for at least a year in order to be able to learn how to be a horse. In the wild, the mare usually doesn't have foals every single year like the broodmares are often forced to do. The foals stay with the herd for two years. The mare and foal are so pretty. I don´t share your passion for fox trotters. The head shaking is something I wouldn´t like personally. I watched plenty of your training videos and some more. I like how you treat your horses and appreciate every single one.
I enjoyed your video even though the sale was so long ago. You mention knowing blood lines of Fox Trotters and that made me laugh because all I know is Thoroughbred Racehorses, Quarter Horses, Arabs, and never paid any attention to what you raise until now. Where I'm from a trainer was tarred and feathered and run out of town in the 70s for practices upon the horses considered cruel and it left them harmed and scarred. I'm glad to see the horses get a look over before the show. Also to get a better understanding of what type of showing is being performed. You can find bad and good in types of equestrian events. Of course the spot light is usually on the tracks because the amount of money involved brings media attention. It is nice to take a look back at people just enjoying the love and caring for horses. Remembering shows when I grew up and the people along the way. I also figured something was different in the way you measure hands. One of your horses I figured was about 15.2 hands but you said something much shorter that I would consider a pony. Or cob. So 4 inches a hand up to the withers if my old noggin is remembering right. Old or not I would of bid that first horse, at 4'11 it would of been a good little horse for me. Then again I saw a couple of horses I liked including the one you did not buy when you bought the one your training because she was bigger. That other one had good confirmation and a pretty head with a look in her eyes that was special.
What a difference to the other auction.!!!! Thank you for showing it to us xx the other one was terrible to see. Would the little filly thst was sold be properly weaned ??? Ir could dhe dtst with her mother til she was? Sorry don't no anything about horses just love your channel so forgive me uf uts a stupid question!!
Most foals are weaned at around 6 months. The amount of milk the mare produces drops dramatically by then, so the filly would be getting most of her nutrition from solid food. Some leave fillies in with their moms to fully wean off, but if you intend on selling, they really need to be physically separated so the filly can develop her own autonomous personality and not be so stressed at separation. Having multiple foals to wean off at the same time helps. And helps mom, too. You saw how the mare was calling for the filly when separated in the barn alley.

I'm 61 and missing the horse vibe so much, but I can't have one of my own. Not looking to ride, just wishing I could visit a horse or two once in a while. What do you think? Michelle
So much difference. In your country, horses don't sale as there are so many, in mine there's a real lack of horses and the price never ends to go up and up ! Stabbles struggle to find their cavalry. But here, breeding isn't lucrative anymore, everything's expensive : food, hay, vet, taxes, and even if horses price went up it still doesn't cover the cost.
I enjoyed watching this and I could cry about the prices. Here is Germany you cannot get any foal of American types under 6.500 Euro and for a broken in grown horse they start at around 14.000 Euros 😢 it's crazy what horses cost here. A tiny pony you could pick up for 350 Euros, now you can't get one for und 1.200 Euros. Vet prices have gone up by 30% and you have to pay a fee of 40 Dollars just for the vet to get out of their cars, called a house visit bill. A round bale of hay cost 68 Dollars which is a cheap price for me, I've paid double that before. I am surprised that people even want to keep horses here. To have them in a full star stable where they get looked after cost 450 Dollars a month 😮 it seems cheaper in America, or am I wrong?
@@fleetskipper1810 wow, I really thought you had it easier there in the States. We don't have auctions here in Germany like you have. It's only for either the Oldenburg and other well known elite breeds from Germany, or it's down in Bayen for their draft horses but it's not a normal thing here. @@charlotterockel-kennedy8913 Here in Colorado the horse prices are low because the feed is so expensive. Lots of the land that grew hay10 years or so ago has been turned into housing developments.
@@alycewich4472 that's really sad to hear 😓we had big problems 4 years ago when we had such a bad heatwave that no grass grew. It was easier and cheaper to buy gold 😫 we had to buy hay from Norway and Poland, there was nothing in Germany. We had 2 years of it being like that. Last two years have been good. It's scary when you don't know if you are going to get hay.
If ya ever find a Missouri fox trotter cross with qh gelding plz reply to comment, I rode this breed back when I was 17 the gelding was best horse I ever rode to do ranch work.
Seems like really nice people and horses. Maybe people are getting nervous about their money---with bank collapses, inflation, and other stuff I can't understand about our economy. Might be better to have one's horses "in hand", as long as you're able to keep them fed and all.
Hopefully, they allow the foal to stay with mom until she is ready. The interesting thing is that foals lock on pretty quick to other horses and people. There's a youtube channel that patrols their mountain land weekly in peak foaling season. To help in the best way they can wild foals who were left behind, due to various stressors. (Like stallion fights, falling, forgetful mamas, defects, injuries etc...)
Unless he was gelded it would end up breeding back its own Dam. That close of inbreeding brings problems and should be avoided with horses. That is why they probably split the lot. I feel bad for them too. Really even with any livestock you know the second they are born how much time they have together.
@@alycewich4472 Thanks for clearing that up. I thought they said it was a colt. I could never let go of horses. Even if they made pasture ornament status. At the track if someone claimed one I did not want claimed by them I'd probably end up in the clink 😀
i went to my first auction and the horses were mostly good and they were about 600 or 300 but the highest sold horse was 1000 or 900 but there was like 10 something people there so yea btw it was yesterday
WEll, um, the mare is long in the pastern, she won't be a good riding mare when she starts to get older in my opinion, but for now, she seems sound and healthy enough for a nice mare.
The price was too low for the owner to make a profit, so they decided to no sale them. The owners want to sell their horses but in many cases, they also need to turn a profit.
I don’t like horse auctions. They’re inhumane. Go to a horse auction and see all the foundered horses, the foundered ponies, the old animals that people don’t want. I dare you to leave with dry eyes. Since spaying mares isn’t feasible, I don’t know what the solution to this overbreeding is, but if I was to go back to a sale looking for a foxtrotter, the ONLY sale I’d go to is the MFTHBA sale at Ava where the horses being offered are not someone else’s discards.

It's scary when you don't know if you are going to get hay.
I had a big 17 and Bayhorse but I’ve been told that bays and sorrows go for cheaper because they’re not very flashy. Is that true JR?
If ya ever find a Missouri fox trotter cross with qh gelding plz reply to comment, I rode this breed back when I was 17 the gelding was best horse I ever rode to do ranch work.
You should have got that Gypsy Vanier cross. Then, i'm partial to Gypsies.
It doesn't fit what he's looking for. And it would be another mouth to feed until he could find a buyer.
Seems like really nice people and horses. Maybe people are getting nervous about their money---with bank collapses, inflation, and other stuff I can't understand about our economy. Might be better to have one's horses "in hand", as long as you're able to keep them fed and all.
I didn't like that the filly did not seem weaned. Big shock for her to go to a new home and losing mom at the same time.
I hope you keep the mama and baby together
Unless he was gelded it would end up breeding back its own Dam. That close of inbreeding brings problems and should be avoided with horses. That is why they probably split the lot. I feel bad for them too. Really even with any livestock you know the second they are born how much time they have together.
@@shelley2671 The fox trotter mama had a filly (girl) not a colt(boy). So no worries about that.
@@alycewich4472 Thanks for clearing that up. I thought they said it was a colt. I could never let go of horses. Even if they made pasture ornament status. At the track if someone claimed one I did not want claimed by them I'd probably end up in the clink 😀
I live 30 minutes from there
Thank god NO KILL!
3.8 views awesome
i went to my first auction and the horses were mostly good and they were about 600 or 300 but the highest sold horse was 1000 or 900 but there was like 10 something people there so yea btw it was yesterday
The grey one was nice?
Great horses. It seems like you can buy a horses and make friends.
WEll, um, the mare is long in the pastern, she won't be a good riding mare when she starts to get older in my opinion, but for now, she seems sound and healthy enough for a nice mare.
I’m not gonna make a dirty compliment about someone’s 14.3 being actually 13. 😂
I heard them say the horse was Cowie, does that mean works with cattle?
Yes. Has cow sense, or good instinct for how to work cattle.
We have way to many horses at home. I hear that comment the most out of horse flippers.
Sad the filly was sold away from the Mom.
@Lynne2106 - Normally foals are weaned by 6 months. This filly (girl) was 9 months of age. So while upsetting in the short term, she'll be fine.
Sincere question: why breed a mare with a defect?
That is probably a injury defect not a genetic one.
Work horse sale for years as a kid do you care for spirs at all 😢
How do you find these sells? I am in North Carolina. Thanks
Maybe do a search for them? lol I mean, you are on the Internet, lol.
Is this a thing in europe?
Can you give us an update on these two horses?
Nope. That was the last we saw of them. We did not purchase them.
Does your sister have a channel?
No.
I teach full time and deal with JR- no time for my own channel 😂
@@LisaO-g8z Well JR alone is more than enough to handle! Just kidding.
👍🐎👍🐎👍
COULD YOU, SOMETIME, EXPLAIN THE REASON FOR SO MANY NO SALES ON YOUR RUclips? PRICE TOO LOW? WHAT? WHY LIST IF OWNERS DON'T REALLY WANT TO SELL???
Le fig TV FCC uh
They didnt disclose the back hoof did they?
ok i see some horses that look pretty good but these prices these days are waaay overpriced
in this Auction this Horses have no Water no Hey tied down this is Stone Age Time poor Horses
Just curious, where you're there? Because that's really the only way you can tell how the horses were treated is to be present. 😳
