@@leopu6778 it seems like game crash, or is it possible to continue game after freeze? There may be many possible causes like badly optimized or pirated game, not stable undervolt (even if stock), or defective drive. You have to figure it out

If you're adding 2 new sticks you are free to choose knowing that difference between single and dual rank is like 0-4% depending on game. Single + dual should work as well, but it's better to have the same specs for peace of mind and to avoid eventual compatibility issues
Thanks. I found this useful but I ran into a little issue adding a second SSD on my PH317-53-798L. Basically, the 2nd screw (the one to the righthand side) would not shift. Also the screwdriver I used was almost just turning yet it got good purchase on the left hand screw and they are the same size screws. I tried different screwdrivers and also using pliers to turn the screw but could not get it to shift. However, my board is slightly different to one in the vid and there was a rectangular piece of metal under the screw that was then screwed into the board just below the SSD. I was able to remove 'that' screw then rotate the metal to the right slightly to accommodate the SSD. I screwed everything back in place. Its not perfect as the horseshoe cut out on the end of the SSD is not flush around the righthand screw but I was able to get everything secured and the SSD works fine. Just posting this in case someone has a similar problem.

Hi I was wondering if it's okay to change/ remove the pre-installed m.2 ssd drive because I was planning to get 2 new 1tb m.2 nvme ssd + plus the 2 tb hdd hybrid that was in the video to get a total of 4tb storage, or is there a limit how much storage I can upgrade? Also will it remove pre-existing acer programs like turbo mode etc, and do I have to reinstall windows and whatnot if I did remove it? Srry for all the questions and thank you for the video!
Yes you can replace the original M.2 drive and you will need to reinstall windows on the new drive. It will probably remove your software from Acer and other things that came with the system by default. I don't know if there are any limits for storage.

Hey, you can mix RAM sizes, but in some cases it may cause dual channel to be not activated. It depends on the RAM and it's complex, you can't really predict unles you try. However if you ask if it will be working the answer is yes. The Samsung 970 Evo is the closest in terms of speed.

Yes it's still worth buying. I have the 1660TI version and I can play cyberpunk at 50-60fps. Idk what you're going to be playing but it's perfect for everything. Also I have the old version the newer RTX models are cheaper and better because everyone is getting the 3000 series.

There are no limits. But if you wanna go more than 2TB HDD the problem is that these 2.5" drives are usually thicker and they probably won't fit so 2TB is max for HDD/SSHD

The HDD upgrade kit for this model can't be replaced, because it's individual. The only thing you can do now is to contact Acer - I remember that they were providing cables and stuff for other models, maybe for this too. Another way is to find it on the internet, maybe someone is selling it.

Hi, do you know if all 2019 helios 300 versions have upgrade-able RAM? I have a friend who wants to buy the helios 300 with i5-9300h and 1660ti, but it only comes with 8gb RAM in the UK amazon. Also in the product description it's stated that the Maximum Supported RAM is only 8GB, hence making upgrading the RAM impossible. This must be a mistake right? I thought they all have the same motherboard just different components.

Hello, you should get the blue rubber frame with your laptop somewhere in box. If not, contact Acer support and ask them if they can provide one or guide you where to buy it. The other way is just to look for it on the internet and buy from other people selling parts

Hi, if you have 1x16GB RAM it's good to add another 16GB to have dual channel RAM as in some cases it improves performance a lot. RAM is for multitasking in general and it's also important in graphics program - the more the better. Games usually need 2x8GB. M.2 SSD is much faster than 2.5" SSD, so it's up to you. In the video I didn't install any new M.2 SSD, but I linked some options in the description
I have the helios 300 2019 as well. I got the 16GB (2x8) RAM model, however I want to upgrade to 32gb, but I don't know if both slots are already occupied and I need to completely replace them, or if I can use any other free slots. I have a a couple of questions. Can you change the refresh rate to 60hz IF I wanted to? Would it damage the monitor if I do that? Also, if I do a fresh install of windows, would it make the turbo button useless?
Hey, go to right click desktop > Intel Graphics settings > display and see if you have an option to switch to 60hz. Idk how in this case but usually when you have 144hz pannel you can switch it to 60hz if needed. Fresh install of Windows will probably make turbo button useless, because it's bound to the Predator Sense app. However i don't know if downloading and installing an app will make it work again, because I didn't test it.
Wow you are still answering questions. SSD's are in their own separate case and not open like an HDD or SSHD will they still fit and use the same rubber mount? I'm going to continue scrolling to see if I find the same question.
Hey, but on the sides of 2.5" SSD's there are still spots where you screw the screws in the same way as with HDD. Actually in case of this Helios 300 there are no screws but the blue rubber frame goes into these slots instead of screws.
After you put the hard drive in is there anyway to do a step after? do you have to do some thing before you can use it. So that your computer can actually recognize it? im sorry im new to this and i don't wanna screw up

@@TechFinds Someone said that the currently used SSD slot is named as Slot 1 and the empty slot is Slot 0. When they added in a fresh SSD card into the empty slot (which is Slot 0), the system was unable to boot up and they had to swap the cards between the two slots, so that the system would read the card with Windows on it from Slot 0, and installed the fresh card on Slot 1. Can you confirm on this matter for me?
@@SpikeYoung09 Well that's confusing. I'll just tell you what i know: if you have your SSD with Windows in slot X don't touch it and just add your new SSD in slot Y. The boot drive is still in it's place and you're just adding a new drive which should be recognized by system. Maybe those people moved the boot drive to the other slot for some reason and that's why the Windows didn't start.
@@SpikeYoung09 i just experience that lol, just spam f2, enable boot order. restart and spam f12 and choose your default. anyway installing ssd nvme on this laptop is a hassle. the screws has threadlocks... be careful when unscrewing it or you will strip it like i did. oh btw not sure if your defaut bios on sata mode: rst intel , or whatever its call. if it is please change it to ahci mode b4 installing windows 10 (if youre planning to install a samsung nvme). fail to do so , your samsung nvme wont be detected by samsung magician/ samsung nvme drivers
You can go for 1x16 or 2x16 depending on what you already have. If you have 1.16 now then just add on more 16GB stick. If you have 2x8 then would be good to have 2x16 for the best compatibility, but you can also take out one 8GB stick and install 16GB instead so you will have 16+8

Hey i own this laptop.. 2020 version, been using since one month and it is a great laptop but one day after usage of one hour, a red line appears out of nowhere.. It has been there constantly, it even appears in bios, so definitely a panel fault.. Also the bottom bezel gets hot, not that hot but kinda warm, is it normal?? My laptops in warranty so I'm giving for repair! Just need to know if bottom bezel does get warm or not? And the hinge is also kind of Strong so i need to apply more pressure to open the lid and that might have caused those red lines..!
Yes, this laptop gets hot in the area under the display, especially deck, but it's normal for this model. I dont think that it could damage the display. Just a faulty panel unit

I have an urgent question, please. I also have a Helios 300, but model 317-52. And when I open my drive bay to connect the SSD, I already have a SATA connector. BUT the SATA connector has only 16 pins , not 22 pins. ( 7 for data and only 9 for power ). So my question is, is it ok to connect the SSD directly to the 16 pin SATA connector ? Samsung Evo will be way faster regardless the situation. SSHD can be fast as SSD, but only in proper conditions when you "learn" it which app you use the most by often using it. Idk exactly how it works, but I treat SSHD as a HDD alternative, not a SSD replacement.

I don't know that PNY SSD. The Crucial mx500 is only SATA M.2 but for gaming should be fine. If you want faster tho you can go for NvMe M.2 like Samsung Evo 970

You better go for Crucial to avoid compatibility issues. RAM like Ballistix is good but if you buy 2 new sticks. For mixing with original RAM you need something with closest possible specs, so teh Crucial RAM that I linked would be perfect.
I'm planning to buy a Helios 300 model with 4GB base RAM and has free 8GB RAM. I know that dual channel may not work because they don't have the same size. I want to know if the base RAM is soldered unto the motherboard or it is like the additional slot of the laptop.
The 4GB stick is not soldered on to the motherboard. This laptop has 2 replacable RAM slots. It's strange that you found a configuration with 4GB RAM + 8GB.

For graphics programs it would be good to have more RAM. You can upgrade up to 32GB (2x16) 2666MHz. I didn't upgrade this laptop, i just showed how to do it. If you want the foftware to run faster you can install it on the fastest SSD you have.

Yes, actually any kit made for that purpose will be ok. It's nice to have some thin plastic things in it to separate the bottom cover from the deck.

It will work, but it won't be 100% compatible. I mean it may run at 2400MHz in order to match latency or other stuff.

@@andreasdecarvalho3321 I think the new ones (2019 and newer) come with the kit. Older models I believe you have to contact support to get your hands on one. I’m not 100% sure but I know my Helios I got last week came with the kit.

Hi, do you know if all 2019 helios 300 versions have upgrade-able RAM? I have a friend who wants to buy the helios 300 with i5-9300h and 1660ti, but it only comes with 8gb RAM in the UK amazon. Also in the product description it's stated that the Maximum Supported RAM is only 8GB, hence making upgrading the RAM impossible. This must be a mistake right? I thought they all have the same motherboard just different components.
You're right, this must be a mistake or something. Every model of 2019 Helios 300 supports up to 32GB RAM (2x16)

Hello, you should get the blue rubber frame with your laptop somewhere in box. If not, contact Acer support and ask them if they can provide one or guide you where to buy it. The other way is just to look for it on the internet and buy from other people selling parts

Hi, if you have 1x16GB RAM it's good to add another 16GB to have dual channel RAM as in some cases it improves performance a lot. RAM is for multitasking in general and it's also important in graphics program - the more the better. Games usually need 2x8GB.
M.2 SSD is much faster than 2.5" SSD, so it's up to you. In the video I didn't install any new M.2 SSD, but I linked some options in the description
I have the helios 300 2019 as well. I got the 16GB (2x8) RAM model, however I want to upgrade to 32gb, but I don't know if both slots are already occupied and I need to completely replace them, or if I can use any other free slots.
In the task manager it says I am using 2/2 slots so I think that answers my question, so what would be a good solution to opt for 32gb???
This laptop has 2 RAM slots, so you can only replace your existing sticks. If i was to change RAM for 2 new sticks i would choose HyperX

You can choose any drive you want and any brand, but I recommend some 2.5" HDD or SSHD as for less money you can have way more storage space.

I have a a couple of questions. Can you change the refresh rate to 60hz IF I wanted to? Would it damage the monitor if I do that? Also, if I do a fresh install of windows, would it make the turbo button useless?
Hey, go to right click desktop > Intel Graphics settings > display and see if you have an option to switch to 60hz. Idk how in this case but usually when you have 144hz pannel you can switch it to 60hz if needed. Fresh install of Windows will probably make turbo button useless, because it's bound to the Predator Sense app. However i don't know if downloading and installing an app will make it work again, because I didn't test it.

Yes it supports both. NvMe is much faster but more expensive, so you have to decide yourself. I think that M.2 is good as well for gaming.

Hey, but on the sides of 2.5" SSD's there are still spots where you screw the screws in the same way as with HDD. Actually in case of this Helios 300 there are no screws but the blue rubber frame goes into these slots instead of screws.

If it's on automatic mode one fan may be slower than the other. You can set the fan speed manually but at full speed they both spin the same fast

If you'll match the specs your dual channel will be activated. You can buy different brand but match the specs with original ram

@@TechFinds Someone said that the currently used SSD slot is named as Slot 1 and the empty slot is Slot 0. When they added in a fresh SSD card into the empty slot (which is Slot 0), the system was unable to boot up and they had to swap the cards between the two slots, so that the system would read the card with Windows on it from Slot 0, and installed the fresh card on Slot 1. Can you confirm on this matter for me?
@@SpikeYoung09 Well that's confusing. I'll just tell you what i know: if you have your SSD with Windows in slot X don't touch it and just add your new SSD in slot Y. The boot drive is still in it's place and you're just adding a new drive which should be recognized by system. Maybe those people moved the boot drive to the other slot for some reason and that's why the Windows didn't start.
@@SpikeYoung09 i just experience that lol, just spam f2, enable boot order. restart and spam f12 and choose your default. anyway installing ssd nvme on this laptop is a hassle. the screws has threadlocks... be careful when unscrewing it or you will strip it like i did. oh btw not sure if your defaut bios on sata mode: rst intel , or whatever its call. if it is please change it to ahci mode b4 installing windows 10 (if youre planning to install a samsung nvme). fail to do so , your samsung nvme wont be detected by samsung magician/ samsung nvme drivers

You can go for 1x16 or 2x16 depending on what you already have. If you have 1.16 now then just add on more 16GB stick. If you have 2x8 then would be good to have 2x16 for the best compatibility, but you can also take out one 8GB stick and install 16GB instead so you will have 16+8

Hey i own this laptop.. 2020 version, been using since one month and it is a great laptop but one day after usage of one hour, a red line appears out of nowhere.. It has been there constantly, it even appears in bios, so definitely a panel fault.. Also the bottom bezel gets hot, not that hot but kinda warm, is it normal?? My laptops in warranty so I'm giving for repair! Just need to know if bottom bezel does get warm or not? And the hinge is also kind of Strong so i need to apply more pressure to open the lid and that might have caused those red lines..!
Yes, this laptop gets hot in the area under the display, especially deck, but it's normal for this model. I dont think that it could damage the display. Just a faulty panel unit

I have an urgent question, please. I also have a Helios 300, but model 317-52. And when I open my drive bay to connect the SSD, I already have a SATA connector. BUT the SATA connector has only 16 pins , not 22 pins. ( 7 for data and only 9 for power ). So my question is, is it ok to connect the SSD directly to the 16 pin SATA connector ? ( because I saw you used a 22 pin connector )

Samsung Evo will be way faster regardless the situation. SSHD can be fast as SSD, but only in proper conditions when you "learn" it which app you use the most by often using it. Idk exactly how it works, but I treat SSHD as a HDD alternative, not a SSD replacement.

Quick question Tech Finds, I just got this laptop and I haven't done anything to it yet but was looking to add another ssd to it.I just want it for storage because I'm running out on the stock ssd. Once I add the new ssd, and partition it(I scrolled through the comments to get that answer) what is next? I mainly want the storage for gaming, can I just put my game folders on that drive and play right away? Or is there something else I have to do?
after you partition it you can just drag your games from old to new drive and they should work, but it's not 100% guarantee.

I don't know that PNY SSD. The Crucial mx500 is only SATA M.2 but for gaming should be fine. If you want faster tho you can go for NvMe M.2 like Samsung Evo 970

You better go for Crucial to avoid compatibility issues. RAM like Ballistix is good but if you buy 2 new sticks. For mixing with original RAM you need something with closest possible specs, so teh Crucial RAM that I linked would be perfect.

I'm planning to buy a Helios 300 model with 4GB base RAM and has free 8GB RAM. I know that dual channel may not work because they don't have the same size. I want to know if the base RAM is soldered unto the motherboard or it is like the additional slot of the laptop.
The 4GB stick is not soldered on to the motherboard. This laptop has 2 replacable RAM slots. It's strange that you found a configuration with 4GB RAM + 8GB.

I use only slightly wet cotton wipe for. There are some special wipes for display, i bought one in a random market.

For graphics programs it would be good to have more RAM. You can upgrade up to 32GB (2x16) 2666MHz. I didn't upgrade this laptop, i just showed how to do it. If you want the foftware to run faster you can install it on the fastest SSD you have.
