Cals in cals out is true. We all make excuses ive made them. But overeating is the biggest issue. Lack of knowledge. Loosing weight is simple But the actual journey is fucking hard for some. We all have different hurdles. I lost my most weight calorie counting only some walking because i have severe JIA. I put weight on by overeating. We need to know what we are eating. We just eat so mindlessly now.
Hormes play a huge part. Cut the calories a lot and your metabolism slows to compensate. You will feel like starving if you do this while eating a lot of carbs and high insulin will make it hard to lose weight. Intermittent fasting (that cuts calories) while eating more protein will lower insulin and trick the metabolism from slowing down. Much easier to lose weight.

Calories in and calories out mean almost nothing. A plate of carb heavy food is going to have very different outcomes with weight then a plate of meat and veggies. You're also going to be satiated and not want to eat on meat and veggies either.
Yeah that’s true, very different effects based on if the meal is carb heavy or not! But at the end of the day, if we’re only talking about weight loss, then it doesn’t make much of a difference what you eat as long as it’s fewer than your daily maintenance calories. 1000 cals of chocolate would make you lose weight!
@@TomGiraffe2228 I can't disagree more, it's all about what you eat. Satiation is very important when it comes to what you eat. Carbs are not satiating, fats and proteins are. And the two processes of breaking down carbs versus fats and protein are very different. Eating until you're full with carbs is a losing gaming, they're processed too quickly and stored as fat if they aren't burned off quickly. Fats and protein aren't and your body sends a signal to you brain that you don't need to eat anymore and that feeling could last until the end of the day not a few hours like carbs.
@@HeyHerdy ahh yeh but your answering a different question to the one I was. I fully agree that carbs aren’t satiating and therefore the most practical way to lose weight is what you said, otherwise you’ll overeat on your calories in due to being hungry all the time! However, hypothetically, with all practicalities out the window, if you ate 1000 calories of pure sugar per day, although you would feel lethargic and hungry, you would lose weight! (Provided your maintenance calories is higher than 1000 which most adults is)
Calories in calories out is not descriptive, it is a high level factual overview. Of course it's a good idea to eat satiating foods, because they help you achieve a calorie deficit. But thats a different conversation, one about the best methods to achieve a calorie deficit
This is not good advice. Calories in and calories out are not the way to go. Studies have proven that your mental state and belief in your weight loss is the #1 predictor of weight loss success. If you focused only on calories, you could be eating foods that do not provide nutrition and leave you feeling hungry and angry, making you binge (thus ruining weight loss). If you work out, your muscles improve, your mind improves, your metabolism improves, and you’re not sitting in front of the TV eating. I have tried to just focus only on nutrition and it has never worked. It always leaves me feeling terrible and I don’t lose fat. When I workout, my mind gets into a better place, helping me make better food choices naturally. It increases my metabolism and muscle growth, burning more fat. And I’m too busy working out that I don’t have time to sit around snacking. Telling people to simply watch calories in and calories out is setting people up to fail. It’s basically telling people to do something we all know isn’t sustainable or doable (without healthy food and exercise) and then telling them their failures when they’re unable to stick with it. They’re unable to stick with it because we’re not meant to live that way. We’re meant to exercise.
Insane that people believe this. ‘A calorie is a calorie’ still being pushed to this day is a joke. Eat grass fed red meat, add salt, drink plenty of water.
When I eat a normal healthy diet, I can't lose weight unless I don't cross 1400 calories a day. And I'm starving the entire time! Its miserable. However when I learned from other Doctors that weight loss isn't about calories but rather hormones, everything changed for me. I went from not being able to eat more than 1400 calories a day, to sometimes eating around 3000. Sometimes closer to 2000 cal, but much of the time closer to 3000. I'm a 5'4 female in my thirties and didn't exercise. I lost 55 lbs. Eat to level hormones. Don't worry about calories.
If I eat more the 1200 calories a day I gain weight. That's starvation for me. My endocrinologist put me on Zepbound. It works. No feelings of hunger. I eat as balanced a diet as I can without a sense of deprivation. So far 17 pounds over 5 months. Of course, I must be on the medication for the remainder of my life just as a diabetic has to take insulin for a lifetime. My heart rate has decreased. My BP is down, my LDL has gone down. My sleep has improved. I can't endure hunger. I just can't. And I exercise at the gym 2 to 3 times a week. I hike. I always have. I decided no one can make me feel guilty about how I manage my weight. I don't give a whit what any fitness guru thinks.
What happens when these “other” people you speak of eat MORE calories than they burn? Will THEY lose weight? Please show me a peer-reviewed study that says that, doctor.

There seems to be a lot of people here who think if you ate 1000 calories a day of 90% carbs, 10% fats/protien ypu wouldnt lose weight due to insulin. But if you ate 5000 calories a day with 10% carbs and 90% protein/fats with I.F. you would lose weight. Actually do this and tell me how you go.
@@Brittanyjones-sf7rc it depends what you mean by "work" if the objective is to lose weight (not specifying muscle/fat/water) if you are in a large calorie deficit you will (based on thermodynamics) lose weight. You can prove me wrong by only eating carbs that spike the hormones you believe cause weight gain/retention with a daily calorie cap of 500 and weigh the same or more after a fortnight. I guarantee you will weigh less.
@@jimiboi7692 I did years back. I ate so little callories for two weeks. I did lose 20 pounds in that time, then no weight lose at all, I couldn't cut anymore calories, I would of being having just water. My metabolism slowed down so much to cope for the calorie drop. So calories out and in doesn't work that well, your metabolism slows to compisate.
Having nearly all protein in a lower calorie diet vs nearly all carbs in a low calorie diet will be very different. You'll feel so much more hungry on the carb one and lose a lot less weight.
If someone cuts calories, they are better off doing as intermittent fasting, that way the metabolism doesn't slow down, with alternating days. And having lower carbs makes fat lose easier and makes you far less hungry. High insulin in the blood will make you pack on the weight.

I can't count calories
Cals in cals out is true. We all make excuses ive made them. But overeating is the biggest issue. Lack of knowledge.
Loosing weight is simple
But the actual journey is fucking hard for some.
Just eat garlic. You didnt hear it from me
Alot of people calling DR mike wrong... i just wanna see the degrees yall got in medicine and nutrition before i agreed with yall
You can lose weight and still keep belly fat if your eating lots of sugar so yes you want to be eating a caloric maintance or deficit but don’t kid yourself. If you don’t want a belly fat, don’t eat sugar
💯💯
What weight are you losing then? Muscle mass? Bone density?
@@aaronperformance9932 it’s all percentages so to keep it simple. If your 6”0 200 pounds and want to get to 180 and decide to eat 1,900 calories a day losing a made up number of 2 pounds per week. Same workout regime but one diet is high in sugars/refined carbs and the other diet is very low sugar/refunded carbs the you might end up at the same end weight goal but 1000 percent the person on the high sugar diet will look way worse
@@aaronperformance9932 Ever see cellulite? That's from sugar, not fat weight gain. You could lose weight and still have some of that swinging around. lol
@@Brittanyjones-sf7rccellulite has nothing to do with fat or sugar. It's a defect. In how the fat deposits under your skin. You can be skinny and still have cellulite because no one has 0 body fat. It was the cosmetic industry that even named it and made it seem "bad" so they could sell weight loss and other products to get rid of it.
This was so BRUTAL!!! 🥱
Calories in, calories out doesn't work. Your metabolism slows down to match the lower calories, so you have to keep cutting to the point you're starving. Intermittent fasting does cut calories, but helps to trick your metabolism from slowing down.
So if I ate 500cals my metabolism would slow to 500cals? Amazing how our bodies can just create energy out of thin air
@@aaronperformance9932 No, your metabolism will slow dramatically, it thinks you are starving to death, so it tries to prevent it by slowing your metabolism.
To begin with, you will lose a good amount of weight, but not long later it will take a real long time compared, because metabolism has slowed so much. 60% of the weight lose by then will be muscle tissue, which is not what anyone would want.

@@aaronperformance9932 Metabolism, calorie intake and hormones all play a major role. Far from simple calories in and out.
And it didn't create energy out of thin air, it took your muscles for most of it, not good. And you will still have trouble getting rid of that last bit of belly fat.
@@dangallagher6176 But that's the thing, you will never out work your mouth. Calories are not stored as fat, sugar and carbs are.
I agree that exercise helps get into good eating habits
All plays a part
💯💯
Hormones play a huge part that most don't seem to know.
@@kuga428 I loose any hunger from just two strong coffees in a day. Look into that.

It really isn’t. I tried all these things before and nothing would work. I wouldn’t even budge 100GRAMS! I went to the gym 4 times a week and couldn’t lose anything.
