This song operates on many levels and to my mind is the finest Clapton ever wrote. It's a song about the father he never knew, a song about the death of his son and a song about God the Father. In popular music, they don't get any better.
Amen. I didn't personally know my father but my grandfather jumped in and saved my life, I have always felt. I was lucky enough to have realized this before he passed away. Unfortunately I lost him when I was only 22. Soon I'll be 24. To me, he's a legend now.
I remember watching the broadcast live on MTV and the amazing treatment this song got. Then when the Unplugged Album/video were released, this song was omitted! EC no longer plays this in concert, so its good to have these videos. Thank you.
Same here, brother. My grandfather would have been 113 today. That's how fathers are. They fill the need when necessary. I was 20 and just turned 52. The legacies never die.
I just love this video and acustic version.. I think of my dad everytime I pull this up to watch it,, and I will post it on my FB for my long departed dad's birthday in Sept. Mr Clapton may you live to be 150.. and still be producing and playing REAL music. :)
I have watched over and over. It gives me chills everytime. I am seeing E.C. play this Saturday in Seattle,I hope he plays a long acoustic set. I think this /Circus Left Town most definitely belong on an Anniversary re-release DVD. I want 1st copy signed- his most touching material on the unplugged set
April 2020 Yes...Hendrix is the greatest guitarist ever.. but there's just something spiritual about Clapton. (Although we still prefer his Gibson than his Fender). Even if he is not an African-American blues slinger, he has become its de facto ambassador since the 60s. When he's gone; it's gonna be tragic for the world of blues. CLAPTON IS GOD FOREVER!
In your opinion Hendrix, in mine and millions of others, irs EC! There is no way to name a #1, its subjective. As far as Fender vs Gibson, i perfer the Stratocaster anyday over a Gibson, but the ES 335 is a phenomenal blues guitar. Fender is more versatile. It can be used for rock, blues, rythem and blues, jazz and country. EC has his with a .25 mid range boost an blocked tremolo, with a 5 setting switch. The EC strat can sound like a gibson when activated, but a gibson can never sound like a Stratocaster. In EC hands, it dont matter. He can make $15 dollar Walmart guitar sound great.
how beautiful can a man been. clapton is awesome. dont understand the 3 people rate this down. its not the best version i know, but its ---live---clapton please never die and go on!

He did! 😧 Real musicians dont consider studio work to be themselves so much as their LIVE work. Studio work is something you do to get promoted by engineers and producers. Live work is what you do to have your audience KNOW you.
@boski05, this is about his son and father. In his autobiography he talks about it being about him seeing his father eyes when he looked into his son's. Like if by genealogy he was seeing his father that he never met. In 98 a Canadian reporter took it upon himself to track down Clapton's father, but the guy he found died in '85. Clapton then searched into himself and still isn't quite sure that that guy was his father. Conor's death and Clapton's recovery from alcoholism however tragic it was m
Yes. Its 2022 and im confused. I thought the same and that eric clapton unplugged came out about 1991, so i didnt expect this song to be included. I am a latecomer fan of this genius so forgive my not having it all straight yet. He's beyond brilliant. I have never heard this song, either plugged or unplugged without tears and emotion. It touches me in an undescribable way.
@@kellyshay9756 Turns out that this was part of the unplugged concert, but they left it out of the first release of the album, just like "circus left town". And yes, My Father's Eyes is def one of the best songs I've ever heard.
For me it's one of the most beautiful songs and performances ever. But it doesn' fit to the other (Blues) Songs on the album. So on the special edition it is only a bonus track.
@PrzemkoS1991 not many people who he did this on the Unplugged show. The CD and DVD both omitted the song in the US at least. I agree fully with you although it is currently up to 38K views currently
Probably didn’t want to do too many songs about Pattie Boyd, especially since most of the songs he sang on the unplugged album (three, I believe) were about Conor.
it’s definately unpolished, the band probably learned the song only a few reheasals earlier. They had figured out song’s signature slide guitar part, mandolin was used in place here which doesn’t dress up the melody the same way. It’s interesting he had 80% of it at that time. Sometimes polish can ruin a song, but in this case the composition wasn’t complete, the extended interlude just before the final verse is still lacking, would’ve been awesome had there been a third guitarist riffing on slide.

well said
Well said..
nicky the cat shut the fuck up
@nicky the cat it’s literally in the lyrics 😑. Clapton himself is religious

i love this version so much. clapton is a godddd
Eric Clapton is one great songwriter!
this performance just shows the true musicianship that eric clapton has. he has more talent in his finger than all of today's up and coming artists.
This is true, even in lieu of the fact Clapton never actually uses his little finger when he plays guitar
I remember watching the broadcast live on MTV and the amazing treatment this song got. Then when the Unplugged Album/video were released, this song was omitted! EC no longer plays this in concert, so its good to have these videos. Thank you.
I love this song 💖
True musician, genuine person and an honest messenger: Eric Clapton

It wasn’t quite there yet. One of my favourite songs.
the best guitarist Ever
I dont have a father figure in my life, but i wish i had a father who loved me like Eric loved his song
"I'll start that again", this is definitely a part of the song.
this man rocks my inner world!!!love him!!

Guitarristas, músicos bons são muitos, mas alguns nos tocam na alma. Esse poder e sensibilidade é indescritível. Só pode ser inspiração divina. 💯

I can't help but feeling that this is far more epic than the electric version... Such a shame he didn't record this acoustic version.
He did! 😧 Real musicians dont consider studio work to be themselves so much as their LIVE work. Studio work is something you do to get promoted by engineers and producers. Live work is what you do to have your audience KNOW you.
this is the best version of this song i know of, absolutely beautiful
Fuck, this is good. Best version I've heard.
I don't fucking understand why it was not in the Unplugged album!
+Heitor Abdias .its on the Deluxe version. I've just purchased it today
Yeah, I know. But it came years and years later... =/
still don''t know why...
kills me everytime i listen.

Great performance !! Why this song is not on the final album ????
The 90's...I gotta go back. I have to go back. I must go back.
Yes.
We were there
Mi papa que esta en el cielo
yeah, you're right!
Não conhecia essa versão. Não fez parte do DVD. 💯
@PrzemkoS1991 he deserves at LEAST more than 1,000,000,000 views
I thought My Father's Eyes wasn't released until somewhere in the late 90s? Wow.
Yes. Its 2022 and im confused. I thought the same and that eric clapton unplugged came out about 1991, so i didnt expect this song to be included. Thanks for reply! I thought that this song is more about Clapton's father, but You may be right.
This version of the song is on the Deluxe Edition Apple Music has it.
This isnt the best version but there are some great versions i heard on bootleg cds from his 1992 tour such as from Brighton Centre
1:38 for instant replay :D
Hey why I don't have this video in my DVD ? How can I get it?
i like this better than the r&b version.
Now why the hell wasn't this and 'Circus' included in the original album!!! Someone screwed that up.
Is this on any live album anywhere?
wow ... nice
The start sounded so much like Tears in Heaven
I certainly don't hate the studio version, but I do prefer each of the live versions.
:54....Just what I wanted to see....A BUT in the camera....Love the song though once the BUT went away!
Adoro!!!!!!!
Fathers eyes comes to distance
Why it's isn't on CD!!??
I had a big grin on me face at the beginning.
Beside the song what S she saying to him ?
I'd heard that Clapton wrote "Tears in Heaven" prior to Conor's death, for the movie "Rush".
no he wrote it and it about his son and it was used in Rush
@DiVeRtY3 oh tu si sabes hermano
For me it's one of the most beautiful songs and performances ever. But it doesn' fit to the other (Blues) Songs on the album. So on the special edition it is only a bonus track.
I think that's no the reason. Otherwise Tears In Heaven had to be skipped as well.
@benschlechter Or CROSSROAD.
@PrzemkoS1991 not many people who he did this on the Unplugged show. The CD and DVD both omitted the song in the US at least. I agree fully with you although it is currently up to 38K views currently
Is it true Eric no longer performs this song in public, as of 2004?
Jacob Wang false
Why didn't he do an unplugged version of Wonderful Tonight?
Probably didn’t want to do too many songs about Pattie Boyd, especially since most of the songs he sang on the unplugged album (three, I believe) were about Conor.
96147 views... still not enough
Pilgrim is not in the list of "Clapton's best albums", but definitely none of Clapton's albums is rubbish
👂 ALWAYS 🥲
I heard it is because it had been performed too sloppy. Or maybe just the intro, so 1:32

お客さんはバンドとしてのグルーヴ感ではなく、「エリック・クラプトン」を聞きに来てるんだよ。
This is actually better than the studio version released in 1998.
no makeup but an hour on the hair, ok.
You are right. I like this one and I hate the 1998 studio version. This album "Pilgrim" is rubbish.
I love this song, but this version sucks, need the backup vocals, slowhand you screwed up on this on!!
Nobody asked you dumb fuck shut the fuck up
weak version.
