Taylor, I appreciate how you are giving me instructions like I was standing right there watching. 👍👍 This coop is looking good.

Highly suggest panty hose as a screen, small enough to keep mosquitos out and much cheaper than screen. I get mine from thrift shops for less than a dollar a pair.

For your overflow you should connect another IBC tote just incase this summer you have a drought like the east coast had i think two years ago. Larry

I was going to say that you might paint it black to stop algae but then ya had a cover and that’s probably better so you can still see (kinda) when it’s clean if you have to wash it out 👍

Love your channel, I was just think of you yesterday and missing your videos. I’m excited for your garden season videos. Coming into winter in Australia it helps get me through it lol.

I have a very similar collection system, I purchased a Black ABS Reducer that goes from 6” to 2” stretched pantyhose over the 6” end and bent down some 1/2” hardware cloth down all the way around and fastened with 3 small screws. Then I got a 2” pipe thread close nipple, threaded it into the cap and the reducer. It is effectively a big funnel and works great. You have far less space to work with, than I do between down pipe and reducer. You will be amazed how much water you will collect.

We are going to do water collection off our wood shed nice to see this thanks.

As our baby chicks are getting bigger, I bought a kennel and moving them all into there, with adding a bigger coop. Been wanting to do water harvesting for them, you had me worried for a moment as a plumber by trade I saw it wasn't going to fall right. Glad you over came and made it work.

Panty hose or window screen would work. Good job on the project

Panty hose is a great idea. We had extra window screen we used for now but I think we’ll try this

Hey kids, love your videos, you can find apps that will identify weeds, plants and trees! Those seedlings can be identified by taking a picture of the leaves! Hope this helps! You can sell them.

      @calicocowacres  4 месяца назад

They’re all peppers! The plant identification apps don’t distinguish that specifically 🙈trust me I tried! lol

We live in costal Louisiana & have 2 IBC totes to collect rain water. We had to put the 2nd tote for overflow. In a good rain storm it can fill an INC tote. We also built a cover for them so algae wouldn’t form. We also added an overflow valve to the 2nd tank so if it rained for a couple days the overflow wouldn’t undermine the base of the water tank. Just a couple things to think about. Love watching y’all progress. I wish we could have started homesteading at y’all age.

We’ll have additional totes at the top of the garden for collection, but we do have a cover that we added to it at the end of the video to prevent algae & we will be installing an overflow as well as hooking it up to the chicken watering system in an upcoming video :)

I love this rainwater collection idea of yours. Very clever -- you could add a valve near the bottom to fill buckets and such. I may have to borrow this plan when I get my own homestead!

IBC totes are made with a built in valve! So handy. I definitely think it’s worthwhile for how cheap these are to acquire

@@calicocowacres Ha, I actually looked them up after watching this video and saw that. They would be great to have out in pastures too, I think, if you were to raise cows or sheep or any other grazing animal.

Just posted a whole cooking video earlier today! I will try to do more kitchen videos, but usually I’m already rushing to get dinner out at night and filming makes things take 2x as long so that’s difficult for me. Maybe on a weekend soon!

    Nice job Taylor.
One think i know from experience could possibly happen, is that the mess on the gutter will pretty much collect all the dirt and leafs at some point and water will just flow over the gutter.
So a good idea (at least to me) is to set a reminder to check on that every once in a while during fall especially, in order to keep that water flow going.
A metal screen mesh is also easier to clean and lasts longer, depending on the harshness of the sun beams. Mine are total killers especially during summer. 😅

Taylor- you could cut a hole in the IBC side to enable you to direct water at more of a slope. Great video

We need to be able to access the valve so digging it in didn’t make sense for us in this specific application
